Then we found Mike. He does great work and I feel was very reasonably priced. He was there the same day we called to quote us at no charge and started working the next day on our septic tank. Needless to say our septic tank was so so old and huge roots had grown into the field drain so it was an extensive job. He stayed until after midnight to fix the problem and not make us be without water for more than a day. I am very grateful to him and will use him from now on with any plumbing issues we may have.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I used Banks Septic to inspect the septic system for a new home my family and I are purchasing. To their credit, I did call them the day of to inspect the system in order to get it in before due diligence ended. They fit me in the day of albeit "after hours" (an additional $200 charge) and $250 for the inspection. Their technician showed up after 5pm, and had the current home owner release permission for him to dig on the property. While digging up the septic tank, the technician severed a private water line in the backyard prompting him to turn off the main water line to THE ENTIRE HOUSE freaking out the current homeowner, my realtor, and the sellers realtor. How he didn't realize that a private water pipe with no water coming out of in the backyard had no impact on the main water line to the house that had already been marked by 811 is beyond me. Trying to manage the crisis from afar, I had to pay $650 to have an after hours plumber come and repair the pipe because the current homeowner was scared to turn the water back on based off his conversation with the technician. When I called Banks the next day to speak with someone, I was told and I quote, "we don't have x-ray vision to see private water lines underground, we aren't liable for anything our technician did" and "I'll have my manager, Roger, call you (he never did)." I understand that mistakes happen but this mistake by their tech cost me $650. I sure would like to speak with someone from their company to at least get reimbursed for the inspection and waive the after hours fee if they ever expect repeat business or a referral from me in the future.

Going to the website they've…read moreonly been in business three years at this location. if that is accurate the original service may have been from the one in Duluth. Five years ago, we bought our house and had it pumped just for peace of mind for moving in. We were getting an odor in our house now five years later, so of course I called them again. Upon inspection, they said there was damage to the tank and that was why we were getting the odor, and said it would be $3500 to repair. We would need to pump the tank either before or after. So I told him to go ahead and just pump it. They were here about 15 minutes pumping and charged me $450 which is their standard rate apparently. They cannot access the second lid and according to AI a septic company should pump out of both lids when they do a pumping job for 1000+ tank. Anyway, after the job was done, I paid them, actually before the job was done. I then had a Plummer inspect and said everything was in working mortar and then we located the source of the smell, which was a cut drain pipe from some flooring we had redone, and the drain pipe was never capped so the fumes were coming straight in from the septic tank into our laundry room. After a five dollar tap was put on the smell was eliminated. I then called Pumpco back again telling them that I thought it was unfair to spend 15 minutes for $450. His response was that they don't pump for less than $450, despite the fact that they did five years ago only charged me 200+ dollars because the tank didn't really need pumping. He also told me that you only have to access one lid to be able to pump a septic tank. Upon saying that I wasn't really talking to a reasonable person that was worried about future business, despite the fact that I'd love him a very positive view five years ago, it was obvious just take the money and run. I don't even need a new septic repair either as they were trying to get 3500 more dollars out of me. Originally I called about the odor, and was told they would give a free inspection. I said I would be more than happy to tip the workers for their time and had $40 in my pocket ready to do so. What I got was a whole different experience. I'm not saying they're an accurate about being able to pump from one tank instead of both lids, which one was inaccessible. So make your own decisions. I'm just sharing this so that you can be aware. Just be cautious. In my mind, for 20 minutes of time and hooking up a hose to a tank shouldn't have cost me more than 200- $250. That's just my opinion and that's all it is. And it's just a two person home and probably didn't need it anyway.

Unfortunately I hired Southern Septic LLC to repair my septic system. I was charged almost $6,000…read morefor a job that I now know was not the right solution to solve the problem. Six months later, the problem persists: the effluent continues to flow through the drainage field which is disgusting and unhygienic. Despite my repeated contact attempts, the only action they took was to pump the tank a few times, but they never solved the underlying problem. George (the person in charge) has not responded to my questions, has refused to provide a detailed scope of the work that is actually needed to pull the county permit and has ignored my reimbursement requests. The only thing they offered was to return $650 of the almost $6,000 paid. They have promised to fix the problem, but now, after all this time, they are suggesting replacing the entire drainage field. This gives the impression that the original repair was improvised and ineffective. This experience has been extremely frustrating and expensive. Communication for his part has been terrible: many excuses and almost no response to messages or calls. They have not assumed any responsibility and after six months, the problem remains unresolved. Now I have to hire another company, which means spending even more money to solve something that should have been done correctly from the beginning. If you want to avoid problems, I strongly recommend looking for septic services elsewhere. Save your money and choose a company that really supports your work. 1 star only because 0 is not an option.
