Be warned, there are substantial added costs associated with replacing septic field lines when…read morehiring Richards. They dig the trenches, install the specified feet of line in, and cover it up. They did not "finish" anything as I had expected. They said that they only do rough grading when covering the new field line system. If I want it smoothed, leveled and prepared for planting grass, I would need to hire a landscaping company for this work. They left pieces of the old pipe and tree roots sticking out of the ground and dirt mounded up around trees. They do not reroute drain pipes from the gutter system or repair drain lines that they damage while installing the new system. I now have to hire a landscaping company to dig up the drain pipes, fix them, and rebury them. I also have to pay someone with equipment to move the dirt around. I have a few trees that are now dying because of damage to their root systems. It's possible that this was unavoidable, but I wish they would have discussed this with me prior, and perhaps talked about things they could do to limit the damage. Another thing to be aware of is that when you hire Richards Septic Service, the crew that actually shows up to perform the work may be a subcontractor of Richards Septic Service. So when things start going wrong or you have issues like those mentioned above, these two companies start pointing fingers at each other and ultimately neither accept responsibility. The bottom line is I expected a higher level of service than what was provided, and I hope this review will help the next person go into this process with realistic expectations, or find a different contractor.

While they were still here trying to push their case for more money My wife called Papa septic and talk to the owner and he gave her all kinds of advice for free Not even thinking we're going to hire him and asked us to look at the filter to see if it really did need a new one or not and after a resent him pictures and He gave us all kinds of guidance again not even knowing if he was going to get hired or not . When they identify another costly issue which may cause problems down the line, such as a partial failure in a septic field, they don't turn the appointment into an aggressive sales job, rather just offering an honest assessment of where things currently stand and the problems which could arise without action. They may not advertise on every billboard and sports field in the community like some of their competitors but, to me, relying on word of mouth for business is something only a company confident in their product or service can pull off. I received a call from the technician, on-site, to find out they were going to charge me another $400 to dig up the tank. Keep in mind the original quote was for $325. They ended up charging $450 more to dig up the lid. They were using a mini-excavator so the work was simple and there should have been a minimal up-charge, at best. The technician was very nice and easy to deal with, but the company policy for pricing that type of work is ridiculous. We've used Skyline a good bit in the past, even for drain field lines on another property but will NOT use them again. They have been bought out by a larger company and don't have reasonable prices any more. I felt over a barrel and taken advantage of to do the work. The company that bought Skyline has also bought Hamby's Septic, another once very good septic company. Buyer beware!
