Holy City Brewing is a fantastic spot for a relaxed afternoon with the family. The location is excellent, with plenty of seating both inside and outside, including a huge grassy area where kids can run around and play. You can order from inside or at the outdoor station, which makes things convenient. The indoor space features a big bar, TVs, arcade games, and even a small gift shop--lots to keep everyone entertained. Our food came out very quickly, but unfortunately that seemed to be because it was pre-cooked. The fries were lukewarm, and most of the items lacked that fresh, hot taste (the boiled peanuts were a delicious exception--super hot and spot-on). Overall, this is a great casual, family-friendly environment for hanging out and enjoying the vibe. Just don't go expecting gourmet food, and you'll have a solid time. Ughhh this place was so disappointing and such a let down after all the positive things I've heard... The place itself is big with both indoor & outdoor seating areas. My husband and I sat at the bar inside. The beer I got was just okay and certainly not memorable. Then we ordered peel & eat shrimp and wings to share. I hate to say this but both were just terrible; shrimp were very hard to peel and wings were dry/flavorless. We barely ate any which is very unlike us! I will not likely come back and can't say I would recommend coming here, especially with all of the other (better) breweries in the area! :( read more

I used to love this place until I learned you cannot bring leashed dogs in their outdoor area. Almost every outdoor setting in Charleston allows dogs. They have a HUGE outdoor area and do not allow dogs in any part of it. Not even the marsh area, which is away from everything. This is a very big deal to me, especially in an area so accommodating and loving to animals. Except Holy City. If there has been an issue, I would prefer they use that as the explanation. The food has always just been okay to good, but it is bar food. The drinks range from eh to great. The service is the same, I have had not great people and amazing people. read more

I was in Charleston and wanted to grab some beer, so I asked around for a good brewery. A few people recommended Holy City Brewing, and I went to check them out. I was able to find parking around the brewery. When I walked in, it was lively with people enjoying their beers. The atmosphere was great, everyone seemed to be having a good time. I grabbed a high chair by the bar, chatted with the server, and ordered a Holy City Pilsner. It was a tap beer and I got my drink in 5 minutes. The beer was really good and refreshing! Need to come here in the weekend apparently. half the menu and the weekday special isn't even available on a Monday. Kids hotdog $10 pretty expensive for a kids meal. (Cheapest kids meal they have) And they charged an additional $0.50 for mustard. Insane. We get the wrong fries we get a fry sauce we didn't ask for but gonna charge me an extra $0.50 for yellow mustard?!??? Purchased 3 drinks with two adult entrees and was going to buy a shirt on the way out, but you lost me as a customer over $0.50 up charge for yellow mustard. I visited this establishment before but had a party in a private location. This time is was inside. It is huge!! The outside has so many tables and spaces for families to gather. The foos took about 45 minutes to come but when it came it was very good. The pretzel was wow! Chicken club was good also. I heard no complaints about the other dishes. Good job! read more

One of my husband's college friends got married here last weekend, and it was truly such a stunning low country wedding! They had both the ceremony and reception here at The Porter House tucked behind and in conjunction to the brewery, and it was truly the perfect space and setting! The weather worked out perfectly to keep the ceremony outdoors overlooking the river, and inside really holds a perfect blank space to host any large gathering. There's even a beautiful long dock that goes all the way out to watch the sunset go down. They served delicious spaghetti and pizza for dinner, and their cake was great too! The venue team seemed super on top of things and very friendly. I believe one of the coordinators was even kind enough to take a couple of photos from my iphone of my husband and I all dressed up. I really like Holy City Brewing for a casual hangout spot. They have a big patio / yard area with a ton of seating and lots of outdoor space for kids to run around. This is a great spot for parents and kids of all ages to hang out at. The food menu has your standard sandwich, burger, and salad options, but they also have some seafood and other options as well. I tried the fish tacos and a basket of sweet potato fries - both were very good, the fries were perfectly cooked and the tacos were fresh. I also had a seltzer which is actually made in house, so it comes in a glass instead of a can. I thought the concept was interesting and the flavor was good. They have a ton of beer options for the beer drinkers and I believe they have a full bar as well. Overall, I liked this brewery & will be back. I loved the space. There's tons of seating indoors & out. Honestly, I didn't find the service to be the most friendly I've ever encountered at a brewery. Both the hostess & bartender seemed almost bothered to help us. I ordered an IPA which was tasty & the crab dip for us to snack on. With the Walrus being a seafood places, I'd expect for anything labeled crab to be REAL crab. But it was a mix of a little crab & a lot of surimi/krab stick. It was a good dip, but misleading to say that it's crab spelled with a "c" &, IMHO, a hard no for any seafood place. We'll give it another shot when the weather cools down a bit so we can sit outside. Hopefully, the service will be friendlier next time. read more

We walked in on a Thursday around 7pm and had no issues getting a table. The night was beautiful and they had all the doors up so it was amazing to feel like you're outside even though we were sitting inside. Our server, Taylor, was very friendly and accommodating, we started with the cheese wedges and a pretzel with beer cheese with ranch and marinara and hot mustard. Both were excellent! Then we ordered a Make your own burger..,, it was cooked perfectly and packed so much flavor! We were so busy enjoying the night that I didn't even snap a photo of our food. Holy City Brewing is a large brewery as well as Restaurant. HC has a good lunch menu along with a fine choice of Home Brews, wine and drinks also available. They have a raw bar for oysters in addition to Hamburgers, sandwiches in including ma Philly cheesesteak. You do have sections and have to counter order your food and drink but this system works well and although a little inconvenient your small effort is worth it as all of the food was cooked to perfection and was very tasty. The workers and Bartenders were pleasant and helpful. There is in side and outside seating. Be warned though it is very warm inside as well and an uncomfortable. Children are welcome and can also have fun in an adjacent playground build for family fun. all in all the holy city brewing company gets four stars as it falls short due to uncomfortable heat and prices that are on the high side. you will pay close to $14 for a hamburger sides are à la carte so be ready to pay cuisine prices for lunch, but it was a good clean restaurant with good food and drink. The establishment, staff, site and food are top notch. Every time we go it gets better and better. There are spacious bars, outside seating and a porch for all to enjoy. Holy 33 IPA Imperial (10.4 ABV) is by far my favorite. Discosaurus IPA Imperial (10.5 ABV) is very good too. Hoptimus Prime American IPA (8 ABV) is great. And the Weihenstephaner Festbier (5.3 ABV) and Let's Hear It For the Gourds Pumpkin (5.8 ABV are tasty seasonal offerings. This brewery is a must go-to every time we're in town. I've been to Holy City numerous times, but this was first first getting their wings and they are the bomb! I was able to split my flavors and I liked both the hot garlic parm and chili wings. My fiancé and I chose to sit at the bar and were served right away, and the food came out to us pretty quickly (10-15 minutes). Holy City Brewing was a really great brewery! Hubby found them on Yelp while planning a trip to Charleston and I'm so glad we got a chance to visit. I ordered a flight with: a blonde, a nitro stout, a sour, and a porter. All were delicious! My favorite was the nitro stout. For my second round, I ordered the Oktoberfest special - a 16 oz draft Oktoberfest beer served with a pretzel. This was an amazing and tasty deal. The cheese dip was creamy, salty, and perfect with the pretzel. We ordered a couple appetizers to share while we were sipping. The goat cheese fritters were phenomenal especially dipped in the bourbon berry jam. I also enjoyed the bologna burnt ends. It was one of the most unique food items I've had from a brewery. All the bartenders were awesome! The building was huge and had plenty of seating for all different group sizes. The hot dog was a good hot dog (a lot of bread) but the service was the issue our server acted as everything was a "bother" even when we just asked for the check. We were greeted by a manager who advised us on lay of how the restaurant works in reference to seating, food options and steered us toward the oyster bar where they have a greasy selection from MA, ME & local. The oyster bar is named the Walrus Oyster Bar and their oysters are presented very well and are fresh. In reference to the beer, I had a Blonde Ale which was refreshing and had a little bit of a sweet flavor. Went perfect with the oysters & clams I had during the visit. The brewery has plenty of seating for those who just want to grab a beer or for those who want a server to assist you during a stay. If there was a restaurant/experience that I would go out my way for it would be holy city brewing. Went out with some co workers and came back a fan. The Softshell Crab sandwich was superb, had the right amount of seasoning and full of flavor. I loved the beers available as well as the 10oz options, which allowed me to try as many options as I could. Finally, the cinnamon pretzel was the icing on the cake of everything. I also thought the ordering system with the different animals corresponding with the tables was clever. Overall, I didn't know what to expect going in but I left as a fan. Holy City Brewery is a cute brewery in downtown Charleston, the Holy City itself. I went on a summer Sunday. The inside of the brewery was well-lit and spacious. There were tons of available tables because most patrons were on the outdoor patio. The patio has several tables and a ramp that lead to the lawn, which has cornhole games set up and an ice cream truck on premises. I had the creamsicle mimosa (an orange juice mimosa with vanilla vodka) which I did not enjoy. That's what I get for trying something new I guess. The service was amazing and everyone around seemed to be enjoying their drinks and their food. The food looked amazing - I saw people with burgers and large meatballs all scarfing them down. read more
