Frothy Beard in Charleston has great food, but the service definitely needs some improvement. They always seem a bit understaffed, and items are often forgotten. I actually did an event with them where they walk around and take vendor orders--which is such a smart idea--but I ordered an iced tea and never received it. That said, the food itself was delicious. I had a wrap and fries, and both were really good. If I were rating based on food alone, it would easily be a 5/5. Service-wise, they don't bring out napkins or extras, which is something to note. However, they do have plenty of outdoor seating, making it a great spot to bring your pup and hang out. The ambiance inside is really nice--it's a large space with a relaxed vibe, and there's also a big parking lot, which is convenient. Came for Thursday night trivia and definitely need to come back! I got there about 30 mins before trivia started and the whole place was packed. Thankfully, there was plenty of parking and tables in the back to still sit at. The line at the bar was fairly long but the bartenders worked their way through quickly. I tried one of the sours which was delicious and fairly priced. I also tried the pretzel and loaded fries which satisfied the salt craving and a large enough portion to split with others. read more

Cute spot in a strip mall. On the outside, it doesn't look like anything special. On the inside the artwork is so cute. I've only come here on Thursdays during trivia and it's always busy! It's a great time but definitely hard to score a table unless you come in early before trivia. Very laid back and casual environment to hang out with friends. I'm not sure how service is usually but it's been a bit slow the times I've gone which I assume is from the business of trivia crowd. I stopped by Frothy Beard last night to get a pizza and beer on the way home. I do like their pizza and salad. I am new here to Charleston and at first wasn't aware that they charged a fee for using the credit card at this place. This concerns me because many restaurants do not, and we already have high taxes here. Anyway, i ordered a burratta salad, a beer, and a 10" pizza to go. Salad is small and is literally 4 slices of tomato and 5 thin slices of mozzarella with a skimpy bit of balsamic on top, for 12.00. When i got my bill I was not happy. 47.00 plus tip. 12.00 salad, 8.00. For 8 oz draft Beer, 24.00 for 10" pizza burned on edges; extra 1.50 for extra balsamic for my salad. I questioned The waiter on the 1.50 charge for the balsamic and he said that the balsamic glaze was very expensive and I said on a $12 salad it was hardly even dripped on there and there isn't any other dressing. He shrugged his shoulders and said we would charge you this for extra dressing on any salad . Yikes. So that, with the taxes and cc fee. 47.00 plus tip. This is too pricey for me. Over 50 for a small pizza, small salad and small beer... at a divey pub with picnic tables and a small bar. Sorry Frothy beard! I do like the food, but it's not a gourmet restaurant, and i think your prices are too high. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. And the pizza was burned black on edges of one corner. Love at this place has trivia every Thursday. I've come here for the markets that they have and you can grab a beer and walk around outside in the parking lot and check out all the little vendors. It is dog friendly outside on their patio, which is semi covered with picnic tables. Inside I've gone and just bellied up at the bar, watched football, even saw a drag show inside. They have a ton of different beers to choose from and even some specialty cocktails. Do not sleep on the pizza! My favorite is the sun and Sal, which is a white base. The artwork throughout (murals, cans, signage, merch, etc.) is all the work of the on-staff artist/graphic designer. It was very cool. The bartender was outstanding. The beer was well-crafted, and cold, bubbly, and delicious. My favorite beers included: The Tangalorian Tangerine Sour, Tha CommUNITY, and ¡Andale! Pale Ale. Since the beginning of August I joined a lead sharing group called GBN. We use Frothy each Wednesday at 11:45 for an hour meeting. The staff is amazing and always takes good care of everyone. They always have pitchers of water and menu set out and waiting for us upon arrival. They recently turned our meeting room into an arcade and so we've relocated to a large table out front. From the huge slices of pizza, salads, and loaded fries, all of the food is consistently delicious. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday around 6pm. It took 16 mins before we were even acknowledged by our server and then another 8 mins before our order was taken. While it was busy, it wasn't busy to the point where customers should have been ignored and left waiting and wondering if they will ever be waited on. We ordered the pretzel bites to start with. They were pretty generic, nothing I would order again. The beer cheese that it comes with is good but I guess when I think of a beer cheese I think of it being hit and melty, not thick and cold. I ordered the double smash burger. It was pretty good. The bacon was way overcooked so I had to take it off the burger for fear of chipping a tooth. The fries are labeled as ranch fries. I'm not sure if it's because they are supposed to be ranch flavored or it's a style of cut. Either way they were decent but could have used some additional seasoning if the ranch part of the name was for ranch flavored. Hubs ordered 12 wings with the sweet chili Buffalo sauce. He really enjoyed them. He said it had the right amount of heat for him and definitely had a good amount of meat on them. He said he would come back here just to get the wings again. Overall, the food was good. I wouldn't say memorable because I probably won't remember much about this experience other than how bad the service was. We were somewhat dumbfounded y how much she interacted with her larger parties compared to us. It was frustrating to have to sit and constantly wait for refills or even watch our server pass by our table several times with the water pitcher but never once stopping to fill our glasses. Frothy Beard is a super fun, open area restaurant that's always hosting events and games to keep the place lively. Trivia on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm is always a blast, the host really does a great job and makes this one of the best trivia's in the area. The drinks are great with a super wide selection of craft beers, a smaller list of cocktails (including a tasty sangria), and a full bar. They only have one cider on tap, it's simple but tasty and not overly sweet. The food is pretty good, above average but could be better in some areas. The pizza is what they're most well known for and I think you can't go wrong with it. This time around I opted for the nachos and wings; the wings were good but 6 for $11 is pricey. The nachos, having been a big hit in the past, were a little lackluster this time, skimping on the chicken and overdoing the pesto sauce. Overall this is a fun place to visit. The events are great (especially trivia thanks to the charismatic host) and the drink selection is vast. The pizza is good but the other food can be a little hit or miss. When I checked in at Frothy Beard recently for a beer with friends, I was surprised I hadn't left a review. I've been here many times, both for on premises drinking and to pick up beers to take home. Frothy Beard is a fun place to get together with friends or a small group, which has usually been the purpose of most of my visits. They also host a run club as well as events like sip-and-paint, and there's a back room you can rent or reserve for meetings. The atmosphere is perfect for a nerdy, 1990s kid like me. Even with a group, servers walk around to take your food and drink orders, so you don't have to walk up to the bar. A server is assigned to your table, but many tables are high-top, so it may be difficult for someone with accessibility concerns or older people. There's an outdoor area if you prefer and the weather is nice. My favorite beer here is the Tangolorian, which is a 5% ABV tangerine sour. It comes in several sizes- 8 oz. and 16 oz., pitchers, or to-go growlers. Frothy Beard offers tasting flights if you want to try several beers, or cocktails and wine if you're into those. All drinks and food are reasonably priced, but be aware that the menu prices are cash price, and if you pay with a credit card, there is a 4% surcharge. I'm not a big fan of the pizza or food here, although others rave about it and love it, so that's totally subjective. I'm here for the beer and fun events. I also love the local art that decorates the brewery, as the Frothy Bearded Man is the cutest business mascot ever. read more

Went here to eat and let my kids play their video games. Ordered our food: Pizza for the kids and Mom, and I ordered a burger. After ordering we went to play the video games. One game took my 6-year old daughters $1. I asked our waitress about getting the money back and she told me there was a number to call. When I asked what the number was going to do for me she, with attitude, said I will get the manager. The manager gave us the $1 back and informed us that it was play at your own risk of losing money. Then I saw my burger had been set at our table without the rest of our food. Not wanting it to get cold I ate the entire burger and fries before the pizzas were anywhere near ready. When I asked the manager where the rest of our food was she informed me the kitchen was unable to get all of the tables food out at the same time because they were too busy. I have been here several times when it was far more busy and had more people in the restaurant and more people at my table and all of our food has come out at the same time and at the least warm. We asked for a check for the food we have had and needed to go because it had been an hour since we ordered. I stepped away with the kids and the manager brought us our $55 check for a burger, two beers, and white wine. No itemized receipt until my wife asked for it. And when my wife questioned the bill, the managers response was "you don't have to tip" and walked away. Needing to get out of there and get McDonalds for our kids and get them to bed we rushed out without looking at our itemized bill. After getting home it turns out she charged us for extra beers. Will absolutely not be going back to here. read more
