Berry's warmth, kindness, and professionalism made all the difference. He worked incredibly efficient, preparing all the necessary paperwork in a very short time. When we had to add an additional service midway through the process--requiring all the paperwork to be redone--Berry handled it with patience and care. Despite the tight timeline, he worked tirelessly to secure a viewing schedule for us within just two days. We are deeply grateful for Berry and his team's dedication, hard work, and compassion. Their support made an overwhelming process so much easier, giving us one less thing to worry about during this difficult time. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Berry and his entire team. I was looking at mortuaries, alone with an unfamiliar duty in an unfamiliar location. I finally turned to Yelp to see what was posted about mortuaries I'd looked at when David from Honor Cremations popped up to say he thought he could help me. I truly felt an instant feeling of safety and trust. Sometimes we're lucky enough to get guidance. David is kind, sympathetic and morale. I spent the next several years feeling secure for when the time came. One of the few things I was able to feel secure about. When my husband did pass in the middle of the night in the veteran hospital hospice, they knew to call Honor. Because it might take time for Honor to arrive, the hospital wanted to take my husband to their mortuary and I refused saying we would wait for Honor. I trusted them and knew he'd be in good hands and those feelings were right. The gentleman who arrived to take my husband helped the nurse prepare him so when he came out of the room he was draped in the American flag. With everything else my husband and I went through with the change in care facilities, finances, and just 'handling it all' as my husband's condition worsened over the years, David's honesty and compassion took this step off my shoulders. I have purchased Honor Cremation for myself, so our children have the confidence to know everything will be taken care of. Thank you David and Honor Cremations. When so many unexpected doors closed with years-long tragedy, you offered a safe open door.

Being part of a large, multi-generational family, I have unfortunately found myself attending services there at least once a year for much of my life. As an adult, I've had the responsibility of taking a more hands-on role in funeral planning, and I'd like to share three experiences. The first was for my uncle--while not related by blood, he was absolutely family. There was significant family drama leading up to the service, including a grandchild sending threatening messages. When the staff became aware of the situation, they handled it with professionalism and care, arranging for support to be on standby if needed. Thankfully, it wasn't necessary, but Paul was fully prepared to take care of it. The second experience was a little over a year ago, when I was making arrangements for my own mother. Paul, the owner, sat with me through the process. He and his staff were incredibly professional and compassionate. Paul made sure I understood all my options and gently reminded me to take my time--he made it clear he was there for me, without rushing me at all. The third experience was about two months ago, when I was there in my professional capacity as a minister. I was asked to support a husband making arrangements for his wife. I watched as a man, in deep grief, struggled to process what was being said. For the first time, I wasn't the family member making decisions--I was observing. The staff at Chapel of the Highlands handled everything with patience, professionalism, and genuine care. Walking through these difficult moments is never easy, but it brings comfort knowing that Paul leads a team that is caring, hardworking, and professional. While I wish I never had to return under such circumstances, I know I will continue to trust and recommend their services to anyone going through such a difficult time.

Yesterday, I had a terrible experience at Chapel of the Highlands in Millbrae. I arrived around…read morethree in the afternoon to visit my mother, who was to be buried the following day (today). Nick H and an unidentified female office clerk were unfriendly, unprofessional, and disrespectful. The facility was messy and unorganized, and the employees appeared unkempt. When I finally got to see my mother, I was horrified to see how she looked. Her face was not my mom. Her clothing was completely different from what she would normally wear. There was a scarf around her neck that seemed to be hiding something. I was so upset by the time they finished arguing that I couldn't see my mother. I felt like I couldn't properly say goodbye to her. It turned out that my siblings had an unannounced visit planned with my mother that they didn't want me to attend. The office girl apologized several times to me, for making a "terrible mistake" by telling me about the 5 p.m. viewing. But it wasn't the mistake of telling me about the viewing; it was the mistake of not letting me see my mother when I arrived and then making me stay in the lobby, telling me I couldn't see her. I would never, never, ever recommend this place, and I believe both Nick H and the office clerk should be fired immediately. **************************************************** Thank you for your response, Paul Larson. I understand that you may not agree with my review, but I encourage you to focus on the actions of your staff. I arrived at 3:00 PM and was informed that the viewing would be at 5:00 PM, which I accepted. However, when I returned at the scheduled time, I was denied the opportunity to see my mother and was asked to leave. This was extremely distressing. I made it clear that I would have contacted the police if I had not been allowed to see her. Nick H. asked me to state that I would not call the police, but I want to be clear--I would have done so if necessary. This situation was unacceptable. She is my mother, and I have every right to see her. I also find it inappropriate that your response focused on criticizing me and referencing my family rather than addressing the issue at hand. Please stop talking about my family--you have no right to do so. You don't understand our dynamics, and it's not your place to comment. Your attempts to address the situation were unhelpful and based on inaccurate assumptions about me. I stand by 1 Star.

Being able to have everything coordinated and completed within a single week was nothing short of a lifesaver, and their willingness to open early for us was an extra act of kindness we won't forget. On the day of the service, all of the flowers sent by loved ones were beautifully arranged, adding a sense of care and dignity to the space. Death is never easy to accept, and navigating logistics while grieving only makes it harder. While no one can ease the loss itself, the people at Berge‑Pappas‑Smith made an incredibly painful experience more manageable through their empathy and support. Ian and the team at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of The Angels in Fremont made an incredibly difficult time a little less emotionally taxing. They treated my loved one with genuine dignity and respect while also treating me with compassion, authenticity, and understanding. What stood out most was their ability to meet me where I was in the process. They never made me feel rushed or overwhelmed, and they provided clear guidance on costs, timeframes, and next steps. That clarity meant a great deal when there were already so many other things to process. Exceptional Funeral Services for My Father…read more Losing my father was one of the hardest moments of our lives, and I had no idea where to begin with arranging his funeral. From the very first call, the team made the entire process so much easier and more manageable for us. They guided us step-by-step--from helping us schedule meetings, to clearly explaining what needed to be done depending on the practices we chose (Catholic or Christian), to handling all of the important documents on our behalf. Their advice was always practical, honest, and rooted in experience. One thing that gave us tremendous peace of mind was knowing that my father would be cared for with dignity during his full-body repatriation to the Philippines. They ensured that he would arrive safely and properly prepared, and we are forever grateful for that reassurance. A special thank you goes to Tom Beddingfield, who was a true anchor through all of this. His patience, professionalism, and steady guidance made an overwhelming process so much easier for our family. I cannot thank him enough for a job exceptionally well done. We also want to highlight the incredible work of Dean DeBruin, who created my dad's video tribute. This was no simple task--my father had a massive and disorganized collection of photos totaling 16 gigabytes. Dean was unbelievably patient, kind, and accommodating through every revision and request. The final tribute was heartfelt, beautiful, and truly captured who my dad was. The coordination between the funeral team and the church was seamless. The staff communicated directly with the parish where we planned to hold the viewing and funeral mass, which removed so much stress from us. We are especially thankful to Fr. Francis, who reached out personally to learn about my father's life so he could honor him meaningfully during the service. We would also like to express our deep appreciation to Noriel P. Adricula, the incredible singer and pianist who provided the music for the funeral mass. His performance was heartfelt and beautiful--exactly what my father deserved. All who attended my father's funeral were in awe of how beautifully everything was managed--professional, heartfelt, and all at a very reasonable price. We felt supported every step of the way, and we are truly grateful for the care this team provided to our father and to us.
