Service was great. Food was mid. The cesar salad we had was extremely acidic and the morning catch sauce tasted like pure ketchup.

After a morning at the Huntington Library we needed a late lunch. We were so happy to visit Holy Saints. The service and food was excellent. The beverage list had some fun selections as well. We tried the duck fat fries, Smoked Out Cubano and the Beatdown BBQ sandwich. Our favorite was the BBQ sandwich. I understand the meat and cheese plate is excellent as well as the salads. Don't insult me for sticking up for my family, let alone my kids. I am in the industry and I know what quality service is supposed to be as well. Your restaurant had poor service and everybody needs to know this is the truth. The demeanor of your reply shows exactly how your people operate. You couldn't even apologize because we asked for a remedy and nobody would help us. We DID plan with our reservation. The people that got seated for their 5:30 reservation before us with our 5:00 reservation asked to sit at the bar when they were seated at 5, which is when we had our reservation. We would've likely been leaving around that time because we were popping in for a quick dinner and water. I can go all day long because you are the liar and you embarrassed yourself with your business and your ridiculous reply. You act like your wife and that shows. If you saw the whole thing why not come and try to remedy it???? I had high hopes for Holy Saints after finding out it was a new wine bar, but everything fell short for me. The owners and staff are lovely - however it's not enough to compensate for the experience. At the time I went in they were out of a lot of things on the menu. It had just opened for the evening service. The Parmesan fries I got were just not great :( I really tried so hard to enjoy them and the Caesar salad was decent. The prosecco I had was the only highlight. What a phenomenal meal and experience. Holy Saints has its doors adorned with the phrase "Neighborhood Headquarters" and it lives up to its promise. The space was small but warm and bustling with all walks of life: families with small children, single diners catching up on a novel, friends engaging with the chef at the counter, and couples indulging in the sun with their patio dogs. It's clear the restaurant has purposefully built a space to reflect the real residents of the neighborhood in dire need of an approachable and diverse third space. The chef had also queued up famous westerns to play on the tv, which seemed to signal an invitation for a long stay among friends. This is not a stuffy restaurant with over-the-top lighting design and rushed service, but rather a slow-simmering farm-to-table atmosphere meant to be enjoyed with good company, several rounds of drinks, and cheese board grazing, while each dish is made to order and fired up in the room. The menu seems to always rotate, and this round we got an incredible selection of top tier bright herbaceous Waldorf salad (this may be the only chef correctly utilizing fennel), spinach griddle cakes, and corn risotto (which was out of this world). There's a lot of playfulness is these tastes, and we loved the use of acids and fresh herbs, especially the unexpected appearances of mint. Every dish felt progressive and creative while still hitting on familiar, historic, and comforting. The only wish list i'd offer is to expand non-alcoholic options (i promise NA drinkers love complex, dry, and bitter tastes and will try an assortment of drinks with these, not just sugar-infused juice mocktails or or pre-made big brand spirit free products, even just a creative in-house shrub drink would be delightful). But of course this is very specific to a niche group, so for the broader public looking for a great wine bar and creative meal, definitely plan a long visit to holy saints with some loved ones. Went here with some friends when we came down to visit. Chef Daniel and his team are on to something really special. The Wagyu steak sandwich was out of this world. Oh my goodness - We just had the best meal of the year. We are visiting from out of the area and man was the food amazing and the service was even better! First we were recommended a great red wine and treated with a appetizer on the house - the tuna appetizer was to die for and in my opinion the best dish on the menu despite being considered a "small dish" We then shared 5 entrees amongst the family. The Lamb stood out head and shoulders above everything else. I've lived in New Zealand before and this outperformed any lamb dish I've ever had. We also enjoyed a great Bolognese and Short Rib. First - the food was delicious! Two of the best sandwiches either of us have ever had! Try the deluxe BLT or the slow-cooked local catch! The ambiance is fun and inviting. Would love to stop by the bar in the evening for a drink. The service was perfect - friendly and nice without being too ingratiating. The only disappointment was how few other patrons there were. This was Friday lunch in January which would be slow in any circumstance, but recent concerns about air quality seem to be keeping people away. The wine list was short, however we found an Argentinian Criolla called "La Jirafa," that was delicious. The prices were on the high side. $15-21 for glasses of wine. While all plates are shareable, I continue to come in and solo conquer meals - and wrapping up with a meats and cheese board. The husband/wife proprietors, Steph and Daniel, are wonderful hosts and you'd think you were in your best friend's kitchen chopping it up but alas, you're in the heart of Old Town. My batting order for anyone wondering what to order for their first visit: start off with their grazing meats and cheese board. Then move onto the Italian salad. I do not lie when I say that every forkful is full of greens, proteins and cheese. I can't speak enough on whatever that mesmerizing dressing is. Then homer it out the park with the Tri Tip. There will be plenty to take home for seconds tomorrow. My favorite "unholy" drinks at a Holy Saints! are tied between the De Par Pinot Grigio on tap or the Benny Boy cider. If you go with the latter, be sure to try it with orange juice. It was like a beer-mosa exploded in my mouth. The tunes are great, the owners are even better, and the block is fun. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to kick back, relax, grub, and engage in some light libations. read more

A gem in a hole in a wall. Nice ambiance for dinner inside and they have two tables outside for larger parties. We had the risotto and the duck from the dinner menu. If anyone does not eat duck because of the gamey flavor then I can assure you this duck does not taste that way. They apparently buy these ducks from a farm in upstate New York that raises them in such a way that the meat is tender, juicy, and good tasting without the "pond water" flavor other duck has. I have wanted to try this place all year but never could find the right time. So when I decided to look for a restaurant that had a laidback and cozy vibe with amazing food I decided to look no further and try Holy Saints. It lived up to and exceeded my expectations. Chef Daniel is an incredible cook and it is just him in the kitchen. We had the Waldorf Salad, which was the best Waldorf I have ever had. Not too sweet with hints of herbs that kept making it interesting. The tuna crudo was absolutely incredible. At first, I thought the pieces were cut too large. But I soon realized that it was purposeful to stand up to the beautiful but intense sauce. The spinach cakes were so inventive if I could eat my spinach like this all the time I would eat more spinach. For our main, we had the catch of the day and again it was cooked perfectly, warm, and flavorful. Lastly, we had Chef Daniel's take on an apple dessert which had more crust than apple but let's be honest the best part of an apple pie is the amazing crush, and boy did it deliver. We got to chat with Chef Daniel for a little bit and he took the time to share his process, and where he sources his ingredients (from the farmers markets every week). This place had incredible hospitality as well as incredible food. I will absolutely be back. read more

Great sandwiches, wonderful people! I had the ham & cheese, my friend had the Cubano, and we both raved about how great they were! Including the mustard, which is made in-house. The bread, which is brought up from a bakery in La Jolla (!), was really amazing. And as if the food isn't enough to bring you in, please consider the fact they feed low income children. The food was a solid 9/10 (looked so good I actually forgot to take a picture before eating). I got the beef taco and they filled me up pretty well. What a great place! My wife and I each had one of their signature sandwiches. The pastrami on mine was so delicious and bbq-smokey with the perfect balance of melted cheese and toppings, I was in heaven! Their bread is so soft with such a good bite, I couldn't believe it! We've been searching for the perfect deli sandwich bread for months and we finally found it! We also got sides of macaroni, potato, Caesar salads AND cheesecake for desert! Everything was SO GREAT!!
