Awesome people Great conversation Top-notch trail knowledge Excellent post-ride concessions Will definitely come back and ride with Tara and the crew again!

Came for a long weekend from seattle. Wanted to get some Tucson riding in. Man did I ever get some in. Matt took me down big springs, prison camp, and Milagrosa. He was a great guide and would help identify lines and provide some tips/tricks specific to riding in AZ. This ride beat me up but was great to see what AZ had to offer! Recommendations: 1) bring lots of water if you aren't use to altitude, 2) rocks are your friend as they will help for a smoother experience, 3) get ready for lots of rocks and hike-a-bike :) Bike rentals are high quality. I had a specialized enduro carbo with a higher end component set.

Yeewww! Yeah baby! HG 2023 Women's Angel Fire Clinic @pedalpics

I had the opportunity to ride with Homegrown over the weekend in Angel Fire for a women's clinic. I was teamed up with Coach Joanna, what a great experience! All the Homegrown team was welcoming and more than willing to share their biking knowledge. I highly recommend using HG for lessons or guides! Lastly, HG had their own photographer to catch you in action! Follow @homegrownmtb and @pedalpics

Summit of Bugs trail. Lots of hike and bike to get up, but totally worth it.

Did a day trip with Matt. He was an awesome guide who gave great advice and found the perfect pace to ride based on my skills. Their rental bikes were also in great shape. I'll totally be back again!

One of many instructional sessions during the clinic (6 to a group).

I've been looking for a MTB 'experience' in Mt Lemmon, and I found these guys on social media with a 4-part clinic series on MTB skills. I'm just getting back to off-road riding so it's just what I needed. It was a great first session all the way around; fun, instructional and inspirational (a workout too). It's been too long since I've been on technical gnar ride like that, and it was a perfect introduction to Mt Lemmon riding! The HG instructor's, Tim and Pnut, were really good & professional - and very personable, making all ages feel welcome. I'm looking forward to the next ride!

Somewhere on the slopes of Mt. Lemmon.

Some buddies and I used Homegrown for our recent trip to Tuscon, and could not have been more pleased by the service that we received from Tara and crew. The bikes we rented were perfect for the local terrain, and Tara was very accommodating with logistics and trail information, for both mountain biking and hiking. We enjoyed the experience and would definitely use them again in the future.

Reserved an aluminum road bike online. Thought this was an actual bike shop... not. Received text…read moreto a self-serve storage unit to pickup the bike I reserved. No parking in storage area, only park at nearby restaurant. There was two bikes of the correct size. You need to know a bit about bike maintenance to continue. I added my own pedals for the first test ride. A pedal wrench and assorted paired pedals were located inside the roll up door's storage unit, along with tire pump, and assorted sized helmets plus disinfecting spray. First bike did not shift into small ring at all. Second bike had worn, dry rot front tire side tread with broken side strands. I used bike for three days on nearby paved trail rides. There was extra tube, levers, and CO2 in rear pack. I also brought along my patch kit and pump, just in case. Cleaned up and lubed chain, set up bike back at the Airbnb. I noticed right shifter cable was frayed upon closer inspection, but it did shift okay in the flat parking lot under no stress. There was no way to adjust seat height, thus I tilted handlebars slightly upward with my own packtool to make do. Riding hills on day two in Saguaro National Park the right shifter cable was definitely punk, requiring patience to shift. Press lever and nothing, nothing, nothing, shift. I suspect cable is frying inside the hood, but didn't inspect. It's going to be a problem for next guest, IF the bike doesn't get service. All issues immediately were reported via text a couple times plus images sent. I was offered to swap out for another unknown bike back at self-serve storage unit, but didn't wish to waste my time driving back and forth, setting up yet another bike versus riding with my friends. So, if you know a thing or two about bikes, the rental was okay, as you did not have to deal with waiting for a person to do the work. Also helped my friend get her bike ready the another day by adding pedals, cleaning the chain, pumping up tires, plus finding and adding an inner tube to her seat pack before we left storage. Really unsure how often these rentals are serviced and check. Not sure what the tip jar was for either, lol! I give a 3 of 5 as price was okay, the person did respond via text, and bike didn't totally fail, BUT I'm also a do-it-yourself-er on vacation!

It's just a storage unit and it was impossible to find. When I called and asked him for directions, he said he didn't have time to deal with me and he had a bunch of other people and he would just have to cancel my reservation. By then it was already in the afternoon and the temperature was in the 90s. Totally ruined my day. Luckily I found another place that is an actual bike shop and they sent me right up and told me where to go and everything. I was able to sneak in a ride before my flight left the next morning. Do not call this place. you are out of your mind if you try. Terrible business practice and just an awful person all around. Most of the texts are not even answered by a person but answered by AI and it's not accurate and that's why I couldn't find the storage locker in the first place. really disappointed. Describe basically ruined my trip. I hardly had any time to ride through the desert, which is a nice part of the trail. Don't even think about renting from this guy. What a mistake

My bike is 10+ years old and well loved, and needed a bunch of work done. I took it to another local shop first and they gave me an estimate of over $500 to fix it. Their recommendation? Throw out this bike and get a new one. Is this a thing?, I asked myself, and perhaps the mechanic too. So I reassured my bike that everything was going to be ok and took it home. At the recommendation of a friend, I took my sweet bike to Campfire instead. Total repairs? Under $200, and when they didn't have a part they needed, they recommended I visit Bicas instead of spending a ton of money (and time) to get it shipped. Repair completely finished within a day. Hooray Campfire! You rock.

There's never been a line which means I can wait for those adjustments. I have Continental Gatorbacks which are notoriously difficult to change out. I had a race this wknd and decided to hedge my risk after training all winter by having thornless tubes installed last week. The charge was $15/tube and $10 labor per wheel, so $50 total for both tube replacements (totally reasonable). It took barely 15 minutes which was nice and the mechanic shared a few pointers during the process. Unfortunately, one tube came with a bad valve and it "revealed" itself mid-triathlon resulting in my first ever DNF :-/ I brought the bike back the following day and the young gentleman (same guy) confirmed the bad valve. He replaced the tube for free but then said he'd have to charge me another $10 labor. I thought he was joking at first but then he said the boss would likely be on the fence about comping this circumstances entirely so I just paid him the additional $10. Parking can sometimes be a little challenging but otherwise, all things considered, this is a good little shop for quick repairs or adjustments.

He was incredibly attentive, interactive, and very specific about matching the bike to my body size, carefully aligning my proportions with the proper frame and tires. You can tell he genuinely cares about getting it right. As first-time bike renters preparing for the largest biking tour in Tucson, we were nervous. We asked for help getting fitted, and they went above and beyond--not just a quick adjustment, but genuine human kindness. They adjusted the seat, watched our posture, and even encouraged us to ride the bike on the side of the shop so they could observe and fine-tune it. They took their time, never rushed us, and made sure we felt confident and comfortable. We rented the bikes for 5 days for only $200 (about $40/day), which is an incredible deal--especially considering other shops in Tucson quoted $100-$200 per day for the same type of bikes. The value is amazing, but honestly, the exceptional service is what makes this place stand out. Phenomenal care, rare to find nowadays. These gentlemen made all the difference in our first cycling experience. Highly recommend!

Dropped it off on a Friday during my lunch with the freehub of my choice and was told they would need to measure spokes and would go from there as far as how long it would take to finish. Called the following Thursday to see how it was going as I haven't been riding because I don't have a spare wheel and they hadn't even looked at it. Almost a full week... the following day they looked at it and had to order spokes which is fine but knowing it took almost a whole week to look at the wheel just to find out it'll take a few more days for spokes to come in sucked. (Meanwhile i have still been without a wheel this entire time and have been riding indoors but that's very different then being on the bike you want to ride!) it's now been two weeks since I initially dropped it off and still have not gotten a call about it being done. I had to go and call them once again to check on it, spokes came in the following Wednesday, called the next day and was told it's not done yet but I'll get a call when it is. It's now Friday evening two days after the spokes arrive and nothing... point being if you are interested in upgrading your bike and love having things done in a timely manner don't come here. They did however lend me a wheel to use in the meantime which is deserving of an extra star.. otherwise barely a 1 star. My main issues... 1- took almost a whole week to even look at the wheel I dropped off. (Just a wheel to measure spokes) 2- seems like there is no rush to get the item done and not considering how long the customer is out a main component on a bike they may love to ride. 3- no initiative to communicate. Had to call multiple times just to understand what point in the job my wheel was in.

Apparently, it's also designated for horses. You can start here and connect to longer hikes on Starr Pass trail and Yetman Trail, getting into the Tucson Mountain Park, but I really like the Rock Wren connector trail which makes a great couple mile loop. For several sections you are on an open, slightly elevated ridge with lovely wide open views and lots of beautiful cacti. From Rock Wren, once you get to a clear junction with a fairly beat up wooden sign, turn right to head back north/east on an unnamed section of trail that somewhat follows a telephone line and takes you past a small reservoir, onto a road that takes you back to the trailhead. If they are releasing water from the reservoir, it creates a very surprising flowing stream that you travel along on your way.
