There was a serious problem with the front door to my unit and swing-patio doors that open on to my side terrace. Over several decades the original doors had rotted and warped, water was leaking into my unit, destroying the hardwood floor near the side door and tiles near the front door, and creating a health hazard. An engineer friend of mine recommended 'Roofing & More.' I called them and from the outset dealt with courteous professionals who made clear they were committed to solving my problem expeditiously. Promptly they sent two experts to my house who skillfully assessed the problem. They spent considerable time with me explaining what needed to be done, thoroughly answering all my questions in terms a lay person could readily understand. Later they sent an expert to take exact measurements. In short order they wrote a detailed proposal breaking down the costs--to replace the front door and its frame and replace the 3 panels of the swing-patio doors on the side of my unit. The detailed proposal contained exact costs for the materials and the charge for installing the replacements. We agreed on the reasonable terms. They quickly ordered the replacement doors crafted to the exact dimensions required. When the replacement doors were finished they promptly scheduled the date for installation. In setting that date they were exceptionally accommodating of my busy schedule. On installation day, their team arrived exactly at the start time. They carried out the work of removing the old front door and old side swing patio doors with great skill. They installed the new replacements with professional care. The crafted replacements fit perfectly. They devoted time to testing the frames and threshold seals they installed ensuring they were watertight. They replaced the part of my hardwood floor that had been damaged by water coming through the old doors. The team did their tasks with consummate professionalism. Sheets of plastic they installed kept dust out of my home as they replaced the doors. They removed every scrap of packaging and any other debris resulting from the installation. They demonstrated to me the action of the new doors and it was clear that the installation was perfect. The workers on the team were obviously experts at their craft. The supervisor was friendly and the entire team was courteous and worked together admirably. The removal of the old components and installation of the new doors was completed in 5 hours. Anyways, I spoke with Chris the GC for TBC. He's a personable guy who gives you answers straight. My fence was damaged from the high winds we encountered a month or so ago. Thus, I needed a new stretch of 113 feet of fence ASAP (that 113 feet of fence was probably put in 25 years ago). I was able to take a photo of the fence, give him the fence length and he shot me an estimate. It was that simple. The gents that TBC subcontracts to build fences are some great guys. They worked their butts off and the quality of that work was OUTSTANDING. I felt no need to make suggestions for improvement during or after the fence build. They cleaned the work site in a surgical manner. They even built extra part of the fence that wasn't part of the estimate because it was necessary to get the job done right (I'm not going to explain...as long as I understand it then that's all that matters). A detailed quote was received, with a payment schedule. A general completion time of 4 weeks was given, as well. Unfortunately, the new HVAC system was being installed at the same time, and ran into issues that caused extra holes in the drywall ceiling in the lower level to need patching, as well as a door trim, wall, etc. This was not the fault of TBC, and I asked for a quote on how much extra this would cost. Once TBC began work, I noticed a few things that concerned me. There were only 2 workers. The two workers that were here only came out for a few hours each day, and only worked in the hall bath. I do not understand why that they couldn't/didn't try to work on more than one thing at a time once the HVAC crews were out of the way. Eventually, they were a week behind. As a result, my kitchen cabinets were delivered a full week before the kitchen was started - and that is when the rain started. Since I have no garage, the cabinets were sitting in my open carport. I sent an email with my concerns. He tried to blame the delay on the "extra" things they had to do: removing the tub, and opening the shower door opening a little in the lower bath. I responded that those things wouldn't take an extra WEEK. I kept asking for a quote to add the painting to the job. After asking several times, he finally replied that his painter was unavailable. I also kept asking for the accessories in the hall bath to get installed - the grab bar/shelves in the bathtub, as well as the towel bars/toilet paper holders, etc. He replied that they typically don't do those things if they aren't the ones painting. I pointed out that the shelves/grab bar in the bathtub area didn't require paint... no reply. The kitchen went beautifully. The cabinets were installed exactly as I had wanted, and the workers did a nice job of getting it done. The microwave was hung rather high, but when I asked for it to be lowered, it sounded like doing so would cause an additional delay... so I gave up. Meanwhile, I had exchanged emails about getting the drywall patches done. A quote of $2000 to do all the work was sent, and I acknowledged that it was fine. Mr. Eckert and I set an appointment to talk about that on May 19th in the afternoon, after I would get home from teaching. That day, I was expecting to sign the agreement to complete the drywall repair. Instead, he announced that they had completed the existing contract, and that they would not be doing the drywall at all. I was SHOCKED. There had been NO indication from him that he would not be doing this. He offered me the name and phone number of other contractors. He asked for final payment, and left. Afterwards, I started looking around and found other things that weren't quite done properly. I wrote a long email. An excerpt is below: ----------------------------------------------------- 1) There were a couple of SMALL areas in the drywall in the kitchen that could have been patched easily. Instead, they just put the base molding in place, right next to them. 2) the counters were left covered in sawdust. There was also sawdust in the cabinets that I had to vacuum out. 3) The areas of the granite backsplash that extend beyond the tile backsplash didn't even get caulking. There is a gap there on the top and sides. 4) *I* had to ask for the quarter round to be installed in the foyer to finish the floor. Yes, it was hidden from view at that time, but shouldn't there have been a "punchlist" somewhere? 5) I asked at least 3 times about getting the shelving in the shower installed. I sent at least 2 emails about it, one indicating that without the grab bar, my son had fallen in the shower and injured himself. Apparently the safety issue didn't matter. You KNOW it's not something *I* am capable of, SHAME ON YOU. 6) The electrical switch cover in the hall bath never got put on. 7)The "stickers" on the glass shower door downstairs were left for me to peel off. --------------------------------------- After I sent this email to him, I realized two other issues: the dishwasher was not screwed in, so when you open the door, it tilts down. And, in the lower level bathroom, no molding was placed at the baseboard. Granted, that was not SPECIFIED in the contract, but it wasn't specified for the kitchen and other bath, either... those little details aren't things that should have to be specified. The bottom line is that while Mr. Eckert's crew technically met his "contractual obligations", they certainly fell very short of doing a thorough job. They didn't "go the extra mile", and they didn't care. He was cool, but professional, in speaking to me, but he definitely wasn't "friendly", even when I tried to be. I am left with a house that still needs work before I can sell it. Details mean a lot to me, and it was clearly something they didn't care about.

I hired Ashyana to perform kitchen and bathroom remodeling in my condo in April 2018. I was…read moreimpressed by their references and had a week when I was out of town where they had full access to the apartment, which Mustafa Khaliqy assured me would be sufficient to do the work. The first day, they locked themselves out and had to destroy the doorknob to get back in. Three days in, the demolish was done but no work was done for the rest of the week. After I returned, I found the condo full of dust with no groundcloth laid down to contain it, and was forced to stay in a hotel a full three days additional. Inspecting the work, the countertops were misaligned to the wall and the standing shower was installed with a 6-inch concrete lift that forced me to raise the showerhead nearly to the ceiling. The kitchen tile wasn't even extended halfway under the sink! To his credit, Mustafa's team finished the tile and moved the showerhead. Still, the fit and finish were substandard. I discovered quickly that the shower grout was not sealed properly and several of the shower floor tiles came loose. Just a few years later, the condo below mine indicated that they have water leaking into their ceiling. The culprit is the drain pan installed in the shower; from the inspector: "The drain pan (Which is a basically a rubber liner) was not properly installed. The purpose of the the liner is to trap and water that seeps through the tile and divert it back in to the drain. In the access panel on the living room side you will be able to see that the rubber liner was cut and not glued properly at of the corners. This is causing the water to drip on the ceiling of the unit below. To repair this, the shower must be demolished completely and redone properly. Unfortunately, there is no way around this."
