Boxcar Grill - Smash burger with mushrooms and cheese - so freaking greasy

Fun spot, great food, very messy (in a good way)…read more Stopped by Boxcar Grill in Talking Rock, GA shortly after they opened, so parking was easy and there were no crowds at the time. It's a neat little place built inside a train boxcar -- narrow but clean, organized, and well laid out. There's plenty of outdoor seating available, not just at Boxcar Grill itself but also next door where you can sit and enjoy your food. Inside seating is comfortable, and everything was nice and clean. I ordered the Train Wreck Smash Burger, and fair warning: it is VERY messy. Chili, fried egg, bacon -- super flavorful and tasty, but you'll want extra napkins. Totally worth it if you don't mind getting a little dirty. I also had the maple bourbon wings, which were sticky, sweet, and delicious. Messy as expected, but cooked well and full of flavor. The curled potato wedge fries were excellent -- crispy, seasoned well, and a great side. Had it all with a Sprite Zero, food came out fresh and hot, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall, this is a great stop whether you're solo, with friends, or with family. Fun concept, good food, and a relaxed small-town vibe. I'd definitely come back.

It's based in an old train car. Everyone inside was super nice. They were happy to bring our food out to our table by the music. We got a couple burgers, and some wings. Everything was very tasty. Fries were unique, and my wife liked them. Overall, a cool little spot and talking rock George by the old train tracks definitely Wjente worth stopping by.

We came for their Easter brunch and had a delightful time! Our server, Joshua, was wonderful and all the staff seemed to be enjoying their day as well. The chef was closely monitoring every station to be sure each dish was replenished quickly, and the omelette and carving stations were staffed by very cheerful employees, which made the day all the more festive because of it! And the food . . . So good! None of the usual tasteless buffet food found in many other restaurants, this was truly delicious . We began with a field green salad with croutons and a nice charcuterie board with yummy prosciutto, black olives, cornichon, goat cheese, and fresh buffalo mozzarella. Steamed shrimp with tasty cocktail sauce and incredibly delicious smoked salmon, complete with tangy capers. There were two soup choices and we had the corn and crab bisque. . . delicious as well! Lunch offerings included mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and fresh steamed green beans and carrots. Next were the protein choices, which included lemon salmon, a gorgeous prime rib with horseradish sauce, and baked ham. To round out breakfast, there was an omelette station ( delicious) and eggs Benedict. Finally, a groaning dessert table with carrot cake, delightfully tangy key lime pie, coconut cake, chocolate torte, and red velvet cake. This was one of the nicest holiday buffets we've ever attended. It was busy but not crowded (so nice they took reservations) like so many Atlanta restaurants tend to be. The view is unmatched and the service and general atmosphere are top notch. We plan to be back for Mother's Day!

My husband had the country fried steak & eggs, and he thought it also tasted great. We opted for Southern fare on this visit, but we are looking forward to going back soon & trying something different. There were excellent options on the specials board, such as Smoked Salmon & Eggs & a Goats Cheese omelette, which are more typical of what we would usually eat. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because I would love to see them add some barista style coffees!

Staff was friendly and despite being a sunny summer Saturday the place wasn't busy. The staff was few in number, which slowed service a little, but we weren't in a hurry and didn't find the waits a problem. I had the Country Fried Steak with a side of sausage patties. Those patties are nearly the size of hamburger patties and are house made with plenty of flavor and a hint of heat. The steak was served with sausage gravy that had a strong twang (not the sourness of vinegar, but possibly buttermilk?). The flavor was interesting at first, but by the end of the meal that sour note became unpleasant. The biscuits were of excellent quality and I stole some of my wife's strawberry compote to finish them off. The generous egg serving was cooked over-medium which was perfect for my tastes. The breakfast potatoes weren't crisp and large chunks of potato and green peppers. I ate a few, but they were a bit stodgy for my liking and I didn't finish them. My wife's pancakes had a hint of sweetness to them and she didn't even have to use the maple syrup with them. We really enjoyed our visit and want to come back and experience the lunch and dinner menu and the wonderful decor has put it on our list of places to bring and impress out-of-town guests.

Our table was lovely and private, perfect for heartfelt conversation, and our server, Bailey, was cheerful as always and so accommodating. We started with mussels and the Caesar salad. Both were good, but I can't stop thinking about the buttery deliciousness of the mussels and broth. Honestly, the best I've ever had. My husband and I had the fish and chips: steel-head trout, lightly battered and fried with tartar sauce and malt vinegar. So good! Our daughter had the ribeye and it was out of this world. Perfectly cooked to medium rare, nice sear on the outside and a gorgeous red center. Easily the best steak my daughter and husband (couldn't resist a taste) had ever had. The garlic compound butter is a must-have. Perfect compliment to the steak. We foolishly ended with an incredibly decadent dessert and it, too, was amazing! A chocolate brownie with ice cream and rum sauce . . . We fought over it even though we were so full after the great dinner. We love Home. A wonderful relaxing dinner, a wonderful special occasion place, or a great place to try their take-out menu, we are so lucky to have Home so near our community. Service is always impeccable and the food meets most exacting standards.
