Initially, I was very happy with the system. The alarms were a little too sensitive, but they did the job and the company always responded promptly. Then the equipment started to get whacky. I was charged for the service. Then the system devolved until I had to disconnect half of the alarms because they continually beeped, even with brand new batteries. I called for service, and a technician came out and "solved" the problem. Except that the problem was not solved. I have called the phone number on the bill and have repeatedly gotten the message that there was nobody to take the call. Not "nobody available", "representatives are busy" - just nobody to take the call. was this business taken over by scam artists? read more

I would not recommend this company. They were technically wrong in the placement of combustable gas detectors in that they were put 12 inches above the floor for natural gas which we have and in the wrong room. I got no response from a request to move them so I did it myself. You can buy these things at Home Depot. Guidance from on line is very clear. The instruction manual by Johnson Controls is one size fits all and had 12 pages that were not applicable so a bit confusing. They have bern removed. Smoke detectors: Tec. info was not provided until I asked for it. Was told a "heat" detector would be placed just outside the kitchen so smoke from cooking would not set it off. WRONG.They installed a a standard smoke detector that alarmed the first time we fried a fish. That got replaced with a heat unit. The App: The console lists all sensors as it should. The App lists only non burglary sensors but includes one of two gas sensors. Why? Still waiting for an answer. All this in two months. I'm surprised they are still in business. Wish I could get my money back. The key box: Made in China and instructions writter by a Chinese person who spent 10 mins. in the US. I rewrote the whole thing in correct English and gave it to the salesman. ARRG. read more

This system is as expensive as anything you might get with cameras attached. Service calls seem to be 'iffy' . Only their Call Center is available in the evenings and weekends. You pay for the upgrades that are required when something becomes outdated. Appointments for services can be made but not necessarily kept or calls given to cancel. read more

All of their staff are very friendly, informative and professional. We have 3 outside motion sensitive video cameras as well as several very effective smoke detectors. Had a strange experience with this company. My wife and I being elderly are very conservative about letting people we don't know in this time of Covid into our home. Home Safety Research representative came to our home by appointment and couldn't fathom why sitting on our covered deck to educate us about the fire safety system that they sell could not be explained without entering our small home . He also didn't have any pamphlets or literature explaining the system he was selling. We never had such a surreal experience before with a sales representative. read more

I spoke to a very courteous Sales Person. He began explaining the system the company sells. I told him I would not be purchasing the item because I could not afford it now. He never the less offered to check my house for appropriately placed fire alarms and Carbon Monoide alarms. He left me a gift CM alarm and asked me to keep him in mind for future and recommendations to neighbors. (I did like the auto health alert feature of the system and wished they offered it stand alone instead of bundled with fire and burglary protection.) I wanted to give it a 5 star but it is still a lot of money, but worth it. Mom bought her system a few months ago and my first thought was you don't need this. I called the company to get to know more about the company and how to operate the system my mom says she loves. The company worked around my hours and I was able to sit down with a service technician and mom. As I listened, I began to understand all the times I am not here and how much mom needs to know she could get help quickly if she needed it. The tech gave me a couple of ideas that I could use to check up on her and has shown me that while she still struggles understanding the internet, she knows how to operate this system pretty easily. Now the reason, I remembered I needed to post this. Mom had pau something on the stove and dozed off, she woke to the alarm (very loud) and a house filled with smoke. I had received a phone call that the smoke detectors had gone off and the fire department had been dispatched. I called her neighbor to see if she could go over and check and she let me know the fire department was already arriving, and while the house did not catch on fire, I believe the alarm system saved my moms life. read more

I have had Home Safety Research for about 3 years now. They are very courteous and polite on the phone. I had multiple times that my card was hacked and I was a little late on the bill, but never had any bad interaction with this company. I also asked for a bid to find out how much it would be to install cameras which was done and the quote relayed to me. After the gave me the quite I never felt pressured by the company to see if I wanted to move forward. I can't say enough good things about this company. I feel more safe when I got to bed and feel better leaving my animals home alone knowing my home will be monitored. read more

I received a card in the mail from Home Safety Research offering a CO2 monitor. I returned the card requesting the monitor and an individual came to my home and plugged in the monitor. I expected him to then leave, but instead he came into my living room and proceeded to sell me the system. He said that because my house was 40 years old that the electrical wiring was most likely not adequate and that I was in danger of my house burning down when I was away from home. The individual that installed the system must have been waiting outside my house because as soon as I signed the contract he immediately came in and installed the system. Within a few days I realized that I did not need or want the system and called to cancel it. I was told that it was beyond the 3 days that I was allowed to cancel the contract. A person from HSR came to my home and told me that she would request that I get 3 years of free monitoring and that she would put in for a cancellation at the end of the 5 years. I just received a statement so I did not get 3 years of free monitoring and I will request that the contract not be renewed at the end of the five years. read more

I purchased a system for my house 5 years ago. Was a little taken off by the price but it was well worth it over time. Monitoring is cheaper and the two way monitors can talk to you even from another floor. I had them install a system for my business in Vancouver a year ago. Didnt charge me any more the the drive 2 hours away. When my business relocated, they moved the system to my new location for really cheap. Not super high tech which is nice. I can't select 0 for my rating. But that is what we got. We had sent in one of those cards for a free fire extinguisher. Earlier this year they called, but it was not convenient and they said they could not send by mail or such, we had to receive it. We thought no more about it, as a few years ago we had a pushy, must give you a spiel before giving you the fire extinguisher, but this time we saw nothing on the postcard we sent in. Anyway we get a call this morning and this group would like to drop off a fire extinguisher. Husband asked if there will be any presentation or such, gal said, no just brochures and fire extinguisher. Well guy shows up unmasked!!!!! and when we said no to a presentation, he waves a copy of the postcard, like we signed to get the spiel and we are saying no, no, no but he starts to head into the door. Well my husband shuts the door in his face and locks it. I complained to the number that called us in the morning. They said sorry and would just drop off fire extinguisher and brochures. Reps from this company knocked on our door for 10 minutes and sat on our porch furniture basically stalking my wife and kids who were home at the time. They knew that some one was home, so they decided to hang around. Very unprofessional and aggressive tactic. The previous owners had an alarm system from this company and they were an elderly couple. I called the company and asked them why they need to access my house, and her response "we need to deactivate the alarm system". Give me a break and go fool someone else. I will be filing a complaint with the Washington State AG office. read more

We have had our security system for sometime but we just had some of the equipment upgraded and there was a little problem with the upgrade. However Karl, who is a service tech, came out and fixed it in no time. He was very professional but very personable and the system is working fine.
