It's pretty small considering it's location but what it lacks in size is reimbursed with its flavor. A must try is the baked potato pizza. It sounds disgusting or weird at first, but this is the true example of a "don't knock it til you try it" kind of pizza. The atmosphere itself is very old school pizzeria with a tame kitchen downstairs but upstairs is about what an old school pizza place should be. The best part is, wheather you have a MudHens or Walleye game you have to get to or are coming back from, its all in walking distance. Definitely worth a look. read more

Just a short walk from our hotel, the kids discovered Home Slice Pizza the other day, and were so impressed by what they had that we decided to grab takeout today. The loaded baked potato pizza is quite possibly the best fusion pizza I've ever had. I will definitely be making a version of this once we're home! The basil was dried ground junk, tomatoe chunks and shredded mozzarella. Not what I would call a margarita. The cheese bread was dry and not very good at all. No serving utensils were given to us and the plate were PAPER PALTES!!! Are ya kidding me! The service was good, no complaints there at all. Very friendly and accommodating. We were in the Toledo area looking for a place with gluten free options for a few family members and Home Slice Pizza popped up. Wow, it's so delicious! They had options for everyone. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, and the food came out FAST. Every single thing we ate was amazing. I will definitely be coming back here whenever I visit again. The downstairs back patio is really cool, too. It's a fenced in (looks to be about 8 foot wooden privacy fencing) and roof-covered patio with a few tables. The fact that it's covered is so nice because it's shady and keeps it really cool for a hot day like today. You order your food at the counter that is right at the front entrance and then you get a seat and they bring it out to you. Very much recommend Home Slice Pizza. read more

GREAT PIZZA! Went for lunch today and ordered a personal pie with bacon and onion. The crust was thin and crispy, toppings were uniformly diced, evenly distributed and perfectly cooked. The sauce had a very nice sweetness to it, but not too sweet. It had a nice spice too, and cooked to perfection. Just great. My dining partner had a sub. We were sitting outside and he was really enjoying it. When he was about half done, "the guy" came out with another sandwich and said he served him the wrong sandwich! He then sat down the right sandwich. Of course he (my lunch partner) couldn't eat it so "the guy" brought a carry out box. He apologized for the mistake and never mentioned charging for it. So, this place doesn't have atmosphere whatsoever, but it's a pizza joint. The folks working there are great, the food is great, it's clean, and the service was fast. Staying in Toledo as a little vacation and was starving. This place was right down from where I'm staying so we came to check it out. From outside it doesn't seem very big but they actually have a bar upstairs as well as an outdoor area--that said, indoor seating is a tad limited. I would imagine if it's a Friday or Saturday evening it may be a little more difficult to find seating. It seems like it'd be pretty easy to make and pickup an order to go tho. Let's try this again. Hipsters, stop, before you flag my review again, try to actually READ. The best thing about Homeslice is the service, they are super nice people. I've ordered here twice now and waited for my pie, they've always offered drinks while I wait and were courteous and quick. But I'm not here to review the service, I'm here to talk about their pizza. Here are the tenants of good NY Style Pizza: 1. Crispy yet chewy crust, crust that when you hold the slice out it doesn't flop. "NY Style" pizza isn't just "thin crust", making a pizza large and thin doesn't make it "NY Style". The crust here does not get crispy enough because they, like most places in Toledo, use a conveyer belt oven to cook their pizza. I still don't understand why Toledo loves those conveyor belt ovens. We're cooking pizzas here not pop tarts. Does it really need to pop out of the other end automatically for you? NYC has more bad pizza than good pizza, but when it's good it's REALLY good. Homeslice is the kind of place that could blend in out in Austoria Queens or something but that's about it. 2. In NYC, the sauce is more heavily seasoned than you'd typically find in other variations of pizza. Flavorful and tangy, yet not laid on super thick. The sauce might be the best thing about Homeslice. 3. If you want to know if a NY pizza shop has good pizza, try a slice of cheese first. All you need to do to test a NY pizza is order a single slice of cheese. The holy trinity of pizza is: Crust, Sauce and Cheese. You've minimized the variables to 3 and can isolate the weak link. Again, with Homeslice it's the crust and quite honestly the crust is the most important part of NY Style pizza imo. After trying Homeslice the first time and seeing my review getting flagged for no reason other than honesty, I figured I'd try it again, maybe I missed something? So, I bought the $10 for $20 Yelp deal and thought, hey for a $10 investment how bad can this be? Well, worse than the first time. The overall problem with Homeslice is that the crust is too thin and not crisp enough and the toppings are so incredibly light that by the time you get the pie home it could pretty much float away. Due to the cooking temperature and aggressively thinness this pizza is decent for about the first 5 minutes and then it just gets cold and floppy. I think Homeslice gets good reviews because the local Toledo hipsters are DYING to make Downtown seem cool. I get it. If Home Slice just bought a couple simple Blodgett ovens and tweaked their crust a bit (it doesn't need to be aggressively thin) I think they could create a solid spot. But hey, the hipsters seem to love it so I'll just "OK Boomer" myself. read more

Ok. Picture it...New Years Day, not in the mood to cook, so we go out to support local and get take out from Homeslice. Ughh...I hate to do this and the only reason I am is because this was ridiculous. From the moment this man answered the phone, until the moment we walked out the door from picking our food up, this man was sooo rude, cold, short. Over charged us, didn't apologize, had no manners whatsoever. On top of that we felt bad for the 2 younger kids working there with him. This guy obviously makes it a miserable work environment. My husband and I are waiting at the counter to pay, he and I both worked in the service industry for a couple of decades, so it's just our nature to look around the open kitchen. Complete filth. Best lunch deal downtown. Wish they would serve slices late at night, at least on event days. I've lived in Toledo my entire life, we will just say over 40 years and I've never visited until yesterday. My son requested New York Style pizza and I threw this place out there as an option.
