I was really impressed with the service I got from Home Theater Advisors, and can't recommend them highly enough. My boss tasked me with finding someone to upgrade his home audio/video system, and I came across HTA through an internet search. The reviews seemed good, so I scheduled a time for Mark to come out and look at what we had in place, so he could give us some suggestions about what we could do. Boy, did I wind up calling the right guy! Right off the bat, Mark was professional and enthusiastic -- though also conservative in what improvements he recommended. My boss was so sick of the system he had that he was inclined to replace everything, but Mark made it a point to encourage him to keep as many components as possible, in order to keep the price down -- even things my boss could easily have been convinced to get rid of, Mark urged him to hold onto, because they didn't need upgrading. This was extremely impressive. Better still, Mark proved extraordinarily patient with us -- because of the holidays, we had some trouble scheduling a time for him to come in and install the package we decided upon, but he worked with us until we finally made it happen. Most importantly, the actual install was smooth and fast, and the results have delighted my boss. We've had a couple of minor snags since -- nothing out of the ordinary, but the usual hiccups in getting used to a new system -- and Mark has been available to help and extremely nice about it to boot. I have been bugging my husband about the 'sea of remotes' on our coffee table for a while, so I decided to do something about it myself. I looked into Harmony remotes, but friends how had them weren't thrilled - it just didn't work that well and wasn't very reliable. A friend who has a great remote that I have used and love, recommended a URC remote and Home Theater Advisors to install and program it. I called them and spoke with Mark. He spent the time to understand what we have in our system, how we use each piece of equipment (for example do we use our Blu-Ray player for both movies and CDs - clearly my husband was on this call) and what we were looking for in a remote. He didn't try to upsell me on any additional products or services, but he did recommend a remote from Universal Remote Control that we are LOVE. I'm so happy, not just with the lack of clutter on the coffee table, but also with the fact that I can now get full use out of all of our equipment, because all I have to do is press a button and I'm watching or listening to what we want. Couldn't be more satisfied. Mark did a great job of assessing our needs in my rental apartment on the UES. While we were prepared to spend more on equipment, he told us precisely what we could keep and what should be upgraded, saving us money. Mark gave us a very detailed quote with helpful attachments describing all the new equipment we would be getting. Mark's very good at assessing customers and their level of sophistication regarding AV equipment, and tailoring his recommendations / language / approach appropriately. He and his team did a great job procuring and then installing all the equipment precisely as we had agreed. He was able to manage around our sleeping baby and barking dogs to get the job done. Mark is the absolute BEST. When I started thinking about having my tv mounted on the wall, I really did not know what I was doing. I contacted Mark and he was very friendly and helpful explaining in detail what could be done. I also appreciated the fact that he was quick about responding to emails. He was very accommodating of my schedule and showed up on time. He also was incredibly patient and nice with my super strict building which can be a real pain. He happily supplied them with all the necessary insurance documents they required. Not only did he mount the TV but he also organized all of my cables/cable box/dvd player/wii/apple tv and made it look so much better! He goes the extra mile to even replace old cables, or ones that were too long with more efficient shorter ones. The point is, not only was he just installing the tv on the wall, he was going above and beyond to make it look good and function better! I could not be happier with what he did. After an unpleasant experience with an unreliable and dishonest home networking company (now out of business), I was hesitant to try again but took the plunge based on the great reviews I saw. Mark and his crew were amazing. We called him on a whim based on a direct mail piece he sent out (which in all honestly I agreed to only because my husband pushed), but then when I finally set up a meeting between him, my electrician, contractor and architect (we did a gut renovation), it turns out that my architect had worked with him before and attested to his credibility! Mark is extremely responsive, works within your budget and doesn't try to upsell you. He is truly concerned that you are happy with the end product. I will say the universal remote thing isn't everything I hoped it would be. There are definite advantages (not having to point to the hardware, consolidating multiple remotes and systems), but I feel like we're constantly having to "reset" or power on/off different components. It can also be slow to respond. However, the sounds is amazing, all the built ins and media cabinet was well planned and executed. I would definitely hire Mark again. read more

Mark was prompt in returning my call and most importantly he was extremely flexible in getting my 55" Hitachi installed within a few days of my initial call. The installation was thorough and complete. Mark and the other gentleman that accompanied him were strictly professional in all aspects of the installation. They asked me clarification questions when appropriate and offered their expertise and advise when I asked for it. Mark recommended "best practices" which I really appreciated (e.g. re-purposing my existing speakers into wireless speakers to save from having to drill into the wall). I asked Mark to help verify my choice of TV and TV stand/furniture. He went to the stores with me, asked several questions, and then proposed a complete system to be centered around a Marantz receiver. I proposed some modifications, based on my particular needs, to which he was completely receptive. He came on time, with his helper, and they proceed to set everything up in a matter of 3 hours; while his helper did the connections, Mark programmed a universal remote to handle all the elements. The final set up is definitely High Tech - and so far it works beautifully, both the video and audio. All throughout he was clear, responsible, efficient, and very easy to work with. It is a pleasure to recommend HTA. We recently bought an apartment that had a 10 year-old built-in TV/stereo system with speakers in every room. Mark did a thorough 1-hour assessment of the existing system and what we wanted from a new system. He wanted to be sure he provided something that would suit our needs. He proposed keeping the built-in speakers, buying a new smart TV and installing a SONOS sound bar. His written proposal arrived by email the same day. My husband bought our McIntosh system at Stereo Exchange from Alan (The Audio Elf) who came highly recommended by his best friend who had bought his system here as well. We were able to pick out a great system that was perfect for our home and we enjoyed if for many years. We had to have the stereo serviced once, and they brought it back to our home, in Westchester, when it was fixed! Moved from our home back into the city and they came and packed up all the stereo equipment wonderfully and they will reassemble it in the new apartment. The system he recommended and installed has been awesome, and everything has worked perfectly since the installation.
