Very friendly staff and good food!! Met a friend for a early breakfast here after dropping someone off at airport. So I was literally the first person in the door. Explained that I was meeting a friend and we would probably be a few hours catching up. Waitress was completely understanding. Brought coffee and a menu told me to nod at her if I needed anything b4 he showed up. When he arrived she checked back in and covered the highlights. Gave us space and time to chat then when ready to order a simple nod again and she was ready to go. Food was great he had a blt and raved over it. I got the meat scrambled. Everything was prepared very good. She offered chaulula and that was the missing ingredient for me. Very nice clean space with plenty of light and openness. I went to brunch with a friend on Sunday, May 17th. The restaurant doesn't accept reservations, so I signed up online for the wait list, which was about a 25 minute wait. Once my friend and I were seated, a server greeted us and he was so nice. We ordered beverages and entrees. I had the KC Tea Company: Golden Monkey beverage. I like this black tea and I will definitely order again. I ordered an omelet and a side of bacon. Our server was very attentive and he provided great customer service. The beverages and food were delicious. I will definitely go back to HomeGrown Kitchen again to try other menu items, especially the homemade pop tarts and coffee cake. read more

We went in during a super busy time, so there was a wait even with the online waitlist. Two spots opened up at the bar so we were able to sit there. Once sat, we were waited on, ordered, served and ate within twenty minutes! As we had a chiefs game to catch, this was ideal. The sweet potato pancakes are my absolute favorite and they were just as good as the first time I had had them the year prior at the power and light location. We've been to HomeGrown multiple times - the food is always delicious! The service can be hit or miss. It's never terrible but sometimes is kind of slow. Be warned that their silverware is terrible though - not sure who picked it out but the utensils are big, heavy, and just feel clunky in your hands. It can get loud during their busy times, but that doesn't bother me too much (...yet!). Definitely worth a stop and way better than a nationwide chain like IHOP! read more

the seasonal pistachio french toast is REALLY good the greek yogurt is a great value and good if u like greek yogurt. Had a lovely brunch at Homegrown last weekend. The carrot cake pancakes were fabulous! I also had crispy bacon and soft scrambled eggs that were perfect (and I'm picky about both of those foods). Topped it off with an iced honey latte. Service was a little lackluster, but they were really busy. The open kitchen and high ceilings make it noisy, but overall this is a great spot. read more

I love that you can get on the waitlist before you even leave your house. Parking is atrocious but it's not their fault. The hostesses were doing a great job of managing the crowd. It helped that we were just two people as they have a lot of two person booths. The restaurant was busy but also quiet enough to have good conversation. I ordered and autumn blaze cider to go along with my black coffee. It was the perfect mix of cider and cinnamon. I love that they bring a carafe so you can keep your own coffee full. My girlfriend had a mint mocha and found it velvety with a hint of mint and not too sweet. I ordered the meatloaf and grits. Oh my goodness!!! It was sooo flavorful. It makes me want to make breakfast meatloaf at home, even though I would never come close to the flavor of this one. The eggs were cooked to a perfect over medium. The cheesy grits were some of the best I've had. My girlfriend had the winter berry French toast. It was amazing. She said it was delightfully rich with a subtle hint of apple. Whenever I see a homegrown kitchen restaurant anywhere I jump at the chance to go, and I'm never disappointed! This morning was no exception! A slice of their coffee cake with that wonderful buttermilk caramel sauce is always a fantastic beginning. I had a hot honey French toast, which was delicious! The 4 of us were seated quickly in a large booth. Most everyone enjoyed their breakfast food. My 4 rating vs 5 is: 1) all the menu options were very large (not well suited for a small appetite), 2) the eggs and the gravy were overly seasoned, and 3) the sweet potato pancakes had a mound of sugary sweet icing that was unnecessary.
