The atmosphere is cozy and friendly, making it a nice place to start the day. I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back. We ordered our brunch sandwiches with fruit and then we were given a number to find a table. The food was cooked fresh and delivered to us by the nicest lady. It's a quaint little diner. We were there a little late for breakfast and a little early for lunch so there were lots of tables. The biscuits and gravy were good - a half was a nice way to try them. I ordered the half biscuits and gravy on their super extensive menu and was knocked over by the flavor and size of the serving. Served quickly with a little fruit flourish, it was a cute plate in a quintessential mom n pop diner space. The walls are lined with local art, the ceiling is beautiful, and the staff is super accommodating when it comes to adjusting an order or doctoring your coffee (with flavor and additions) when the latte machine isn't working. Such a cozy cafe. It reminds me of a slightly trendier mom & pop joint. The prices are reasonable & food is great. Not sure what the hash browns were seasoned with but it was delicious. This could be your go to sandwich shop, if you give it a try. The staff is very helpful, friendly......, as well as the rest of the Boy Scout law. Their breakfasts are also excellent. When family members come to visit, they ask to go to Huey's on the Square. As I often see people I know, it is a great gathering spot and several major newspapers are available to read at your leisure. All in all, this restaurant will take you back a little way in time (notice the tin ceiling) but it won't set you back financially. read more

I came here on Saturday with my husband who enjoyed his Philly Steak sandwich, and I enjoyed my meatball sub. The sub was perhaps the best meatball sub that I have had since the best one I had from on the Hill in St. Louis. That says something. The potato salad was good, but could have used a bit more mustard or a tad bit more flavoring. The place is very nice to sit at and eat, inside and old building, with a very nostalgic feel. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. The girl that took my order was friendly and I ordered my toast well buttered. When it came out the toast was dry and served with a pat of cold butter. I thought there had been an error, so I brought the toast brought back up to the counter and she said you butter it yourself. She never mentioned that when I ordered. The owner was standing there and heard our conversation, but had no comment. I buttered the toast myself but of course it did not melt. I liked the overall environment. Service was a bit slow. Wifi didn't work at all. Ordered a biscuits and gravy. Biscuit was so overcooked that I almost couldn't cut through it with the supplied butter knife. The gravy was a bit bland. The sausage not good quality. McDonald's biscuits for $1.00 taste better honestly. Later ordered two cookies. One was overcooked and dry and hard. The other was soft and moist. I was surprised to see a load of low quality pre-cooked Jimmy Dean sausage get delivered to the store. Definitely not the appropriate quality to be serving in a restaurant. read more

My wife and I stumbled across Hueys while wandering around the old Liberty square. I had a traditional BLT, she had a Reuben. Both were delicious and the perfect size for lunch. Even though you order and pay at the front counter, they deliver the food to the table. Ours was prompt, and the young man that delivered it was courteous. He checked on us shirtly after and brought some pickles that my wife asked for. This one one of my first journeys onto Main St in Liberty. It was a welcome cool morning for July and the square seemed charming. I was in search of a yummy inexpensive breakfast to fill my belly while I passed a little time. Their chalk menu displayed plenty of options and I chose a cafe au lait and the chicken and waffles. The restaurant is a combination of serve yourself and server. As for the coffee I was handed an empty cup and told to fill it myself from prepared coffee in carafes and that I should then return it to the lady behind the counter to be topped off with steamed milk making it a cafe au lait . Sadly the coffee was not good. The chicken and waffles was brought to my table, where I'd seated myself. There was no unique spin on this dish whatsoever. That's okay. However if you're going to go super straight forward and simple each component should be spot on. Unfortunately, the waffle was not crispy or fluffy and lacked flavor. It was dense and chewy tasted oddly doughy. I've had better out of a freezer warmed in a toaster. The chicken was two standard run of the mill strips. They were mediocre. I added hot sauce. It helped. It was served with one pat of butter and a ramekin of syrup. Definitely not real maple syrup. As well as 1 green grape and a thin slice of orange and strawberry that looked like they'd been presliced and sitting in the fridge awhile. I immediately removed them from the plate. This is a good breakfast/lunch spot on Liberty Square. You walk in and go to the front counter to order with food brought to your table when ready. We ordered our usual breakfast fare, me a veggie omelet and the Chess Player eggs and toast. The only complaint I have was the food was not hot. It wasn't exactly cold but it wasn't hot, thus the three stars. The coffee, on the other hand, was phenomenal! Probably some of the best I have ever had at a restaurant, and that is saying a lot. Good paper selection, New York Times, KC Star and other local publications. They are friendly and the place is cozy. Too bad Liberty does not have the shops it used to...I love small town squares.
