Homeland Creamery is a family owned and operated farm in Julian NC. It was a stop last Saturday on a Triangle Harley Owner's group ride through several rural counties west of Raleigh. It was nice and packed with patrons on a brutally hot Friday. I had a two scoop of their chocolate chip cookie dough. It was sweet and savory. All of the flavors they offered looked really good. They sell many flavors of ice cream, milk, cheese and other dairy products. They also had some local honey. I wish I had a cooler so that I could have brought something home. Nothing would have lasted in the saddle bags of my bike with the temperature over a hundred degrees. I will keep it in mind for a future visit when I'm out that way again. read more

Homeland Creamery ice cream is pretty ubiquitous around the Triad; most places that have ice cream will have Homeland Creamery ice cream. Visiting the actual location is nice, it's in the country between Julian and Burlington so it's a nice little family trip out of the house. The ice cream is quite good, however it should be noted that this isn't exactly "homemade" ice cream and a look at the ingredients list will show you that this is not far off from the stuff you find in the grocery store. Given the scale of their operation in the Triad that makes sense and it's not necessarily an issue but I do feel like a lot of people keep telling me it's "better" because it's local. In this case that plays a role in that it's always very fresh and if you go direct to their location it isn't even shipped really. However, this is not hand made ice cream using 2-3 ingredients, it's a big operation making a lot of ice cream. They've added a nice playground to the facility which is great for kids. read more

Once you've had Homeland Creamery ice cream, you will realize that all other is inferior. Even on cold days, I will joyfully travel the 15 minutes to the shop for a scoop of the good stuff. They don't have any inside seating, so on cold days we bring it back to the car and have a karaoke session with our cones. They don't have any indoor bathrooms, so go before you come or be prepared to use a cold portapotty (or warm depending on the weather). Inside the store is a beautiful sight with the two freezers of ice cream they dip from, two freezers of pre-packed pints and half gallons, two fridges filled with milk, cream, and eggs for sale, another freezer filled with local sausage, and a side shelving unit with local bread, honey, and jams. The service is always quick and the employees are kind and will answer all of your questions. We've been coming here for almost six years, and the culture is still great. This most recent trip we came out with a kids scoop of strawberry in a cone, a single scoop of cow pie in a cup, and a milkshake made from mint chip and cookies & cream. We will be back and look forward to the warmer days when we can eat out under the shade trees at the picnic tables. read more

Attended a tour here today for a class field trip. We took a hayride to learn about the different cows that live here along with the types of farming they do to feed the animals. Then we went to the barn and learned about the cows and what they eat and how they process food. Lastly we had lunch and enjoyed a cup of ice cream. I forgot to take photos bc I was so excited about the banana pudding ice cream which didn't have banana pieces in it( which i appreciated) but had nice chunks of wafers and tasted just like the real deal. It's rich, creamy, but personally it's not overly sweet. It's just right! Both of these flavors married so well together. If you're a coffee lover, then this is definitely for you! We were passing through on the way home. We found this hidden gem. Tucked away in a town that I had never heard of, Julian North Carolina. The building is smaller but offers a variety of things. To be honest, you would have to check out there site to find out all the things that they sell. The things that I can tell you they have are milk, ice cream, as well as a selection of jellies and honey. They also offer sourdough bread. They have outdoor seating. We got a loaf of sourdough bread, which was very soft, and the chocolate milk. The sourdough bread was just like the bread I grew up eating. Soft flavorful and left you wanting more. The chocolate milk was rich and thick with good flavor. They had multiple staff member the day. We were there all friendly and ready to serve. I will definitely be back. read more

I understand the products are good at this establishment...but there are more important elements of running a store, such as how a store interacts with the public and it's policies of operation. With that said, I stopped by with my (leashed and very well behaved) pup for ice cream. I don't know if it was the manager or owner or who it was... but a woman came rushing out of the ice cream shop shouting "NO dogs! NO DOGS!!" What kind of farm store doesn't allow well behaved dogs? The farm is beautiful and worth the drive to see a working dairy farm. The attitude of the employees or owners family, whichever is the case, leaves a spoiled milk taste in your mouth! The young guy working behind the counter last Sunday, tall and stocky, loves to wear two or three phones on his belt, is truly a miserable or self entitled young man! Your certainly not doing me a favor by selling me your ice cream, nor the other 6-9 people inside, but instead we're doing you the favor by showing up on a Sunday afternoon to purchase your product! Either grasp that idea and run with it, or shut your doors and go completely private?
