Pete came highly reccomended through a trusted, seasoned real estate agent with whom I frequently work -- who also used to do some contracting in his day, same as Pete. Point being, I was looking for an inspector who knows different eras of Virginia home building, and the associated construction and coding difficulties with renovation and pre-closing fixes. This is mine & my fiance's first home together, and I wanted to apply my knowledge to get us into the best buyer's position possible. We are SO thankful we found Pete. As much as I know, Pete was outstanding at catching what I missed, and what my personal knowledge/experience didn't forecast. We caught a potentially very costly and difficult to fix issue, which I was able to research and we found a really wise and frugal solution. We were able to avoid walking away from a great house, and will be closing in a couple days. NoVa/DC has been a seller's market in 2016/17, with a lot of disappointing properties and/or irresponsible sellers. Pete executed our inspection like a seasoned professional. Moreover, he saved us the headache and heartache of having to jump back into the frey of home buying by either needlessly walking away, or being sunk with an unforseen fix/improvement. Before our home inspection, we'd actually scheduled, re-schedule and had to cancel inspections on two different homes that we walked away from before inspection. Each time, Home Scope's staff was always immediately responsive, understanding, rescheduled and worked with us as needed to meet the contract deadlines -- huge lifesaver and anxiety reducer. From the inspection to their office operations, Home Scope is a professional outfit, and the the sole inspection company I refer to clients, friends, family, and anyone who sounds like they desperately need knowledgeable, efficient help in this market. The housing demand around D.C. allows sellers, title companies, sellers agents, etc. to be really careless/sloppy/generaly poor service, and puts buyers at a serious disadvantage. I have purchased 4 houses in the last 20 years and all four were inspected by Pete at Homescope. I frankly would not trust anyone else to do as thorough a job as I know Pete will do. What I especially appreciate about Pete is that he is very down-to-earth and honest and not an alarmist. After all, when you're buying a house that is over 10 years old, of course not everything is going to be perfect. That was very reassuring to me and, after doing 4 home inspections, not one of my houses developed any problems not detected by Pete. I had two inspections done on the property I was buying. Home scope was the second inspector I had come in the first I would rather not say. Any way do your self a favor and have a second inspection done. Pete Hamner is the owner of Homescope he personally came out which i was extremly happy he did. Pete did my home inspection yesterday at a town house in Springfield. I was highly impressed with his thorough approach and attention to detail. He spent a lot of time there and answered all of my questions. Not only did he explain potential issues/problems with the house, but he also gave me good information about things like the age of systems and appliances and location of water shut-off valves. Pete was unprofessional and even got to the point being rude after I told him that me and my wife were the ones who found 90% of the problems in the house he was inspecting for us. Do not take his word and do the inspection with someone else. All kinds of leaks appeared after we moved into the house that he said was fine except for the roof that needed to be replaced. The dishwasher leaked which damaged the basement ceiling and bathroom leak damaged the dining room ceiling both after the first use so I don't know what kind of "full cycle" he ran when we were there. The washing machine had actual dirt appeared after we ran a wash test, also happened in the first time we used it after moving in which Pete didn't mention any problem in, but to us dirt in our clothes after washing it is a big deal. He also didn't say anything about the hardwood floor in front of the dishwasher that was swollen which means there was a leaking problem. My wife actually found a rotten piece of wood in the deck, that could have cause a serious injury, just after he looked outside and said the deck is perfectly fine. I was the one who asked him to check the window sills cause the the edges were swollen and he found moist in them and this was not in the winter. I wish there was a review about this Service to worn me before I hire them and trust Pete's word about the house I bought and found all kinds of problems after moving in. He even didn't say he's sorry for making a mistake he started blaming me and saying i'm the kind of person that is not happy with anything, which is rude, who are you to judge people. read more
