I was passing thru and was drawn to Hometown Hot Dogs. At 6:00pm the place was hopping! There were several tables and booths and a wonderful hometown faithful ambiance which I LOVED. Yes, I highlighted my favorite Bible verse! I sat in a booth and was immediately greeted by the friendly waitress who took my order. Drinks are serve yourself which was a nice touch! I ordered a relish dog, fries, onion rings and lemon pie. The fries and onion rings arrived almost immediately and the hot dog shortly after. All were hot, fresh and flavorful! Decided to drive out to Millersport for Hometown Hot Dogs. Ordered a West Virginia dog, a Coney dog and fries. The West Virginia dog had a medium heat coney sauce with onions and coleslaw. Great dog coleslaw had a very smooth taste to it. The coney sauce had had a little more bite than I expected but was still good. I think I would go for the least heat next time. The fries are fresh cut potato fries, no frozen here, very tasty. Now on to the service portion, my waiter was great. Checked on me several times and offered to replace the one dog when it rolled over on its side when he put the plate down. Okay places don't do that these days. On to the thing that really made this special was the interaction of Jacob the owner. I was watching him the whole time interacting with customers and talking to me for a little bit. Such a little quaint diner. We visited for breakfast during the Buckeye Lake Winterfest. When the 8 of us arrived, we were so warmly greeted and felt right at home. So, part of this is our fault. My stepdad and I thought that fish and chips sounded good for dinner. He suggested Hometown Hot Dogs as they have excellent food. The fish and chips were not on the menu but when asked they said they could do it. In fact one gentleman mentioned that's the old fish platter we used to have. We should have asked about the price, but at that time didn't figure we would need to. When we checked out we were charged for 4 fish sandwiches and 2 fries. So, two fish and chips plates cost us over $48! We should have asked for the four buns, the cheese, and other fixings for the sandwiches. The food here is excellent and the people are great. However getting hit with a price tag like this for two dinners makes it hard to want to go back again in the future. read more

This is a street-side diner type restaurant. We were visiting the area and our son wanted us to try it as it is one of his favorite lunch places. We all ordered breakfast dishes. The menu was simple with nothing fancy or house special. In this kind of a setting I always expect family recipes. That taste that someone told them they should open a restaurant. What I saw was cans and boxes. The sausage gravy was scooped from something inside a reach in cooler and microwaved. She said it was the GOOD GFS gravy. I was hoping she didn't scoop from an opened top can. Buns and bread looked like from a grocery instead of made on premise or a local bakery. The pancake mix box sat on the bar counter. Couple of cans of something were sitting out. Breakfast was meh. Had to recook the eggs, but there was no shining star to order anyway. Took home a couple famous hot dogs to discover, Meh.
