Island House is pretty much a dive bar. But this dive bar is staffed with ultra kind and accommodating people. I showed up by my lonesome, not knowing anything about Island House or Buckeye Lake or anything, and I was greeted warmly and shown to the popcorn maker. The popcorn maker is there by the bar and is available (with buttered popcorn) for your popcorn-eating needs. I'm assuming that popcorn is complimentary with your meal, because I saw a dude come up and get a bag of popcorn (twice). That's nice that Island House offers free popcorn. Anyway, I didn't eat the popcorn. It was a little ... I don't know. It was a little much for me. Instead, I ordered a Club Sandwich (toasted bread, ham, turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato). The club sandwich was great! It's sometimes difficult to make a great club sandwich, even though the components are simple. This club sandwich at Island House was great. It came with ruffle chips. There is patio seating here at Island House, which is probably amazing during the summer and fall, because you're steps from the lake. I sat indoors (by a window), which is an option but FYI the ventilation is a little lacking and it was a tad stuffy inside. read more

Island House is definitely a spot for locals only in my opinion. Most of the tourists head to Papa Boo's or the Waterfront or Buckeye Lake Boatyard, but nobody drives all the way around the lake to Lieb's Island. It's small on the inside, with the bar taking up most of the space, but the patio is large with two levels and a small stage for live music. I have yet to eat at Island House, but it's definitely a spot to see "Lake Culture". It's right on the canal right across the lake from the boat launch on Lieb's, so there's lots of great people watching and lake life bustling about. Last time I stopped in, our server was Clair and she was super awesome. I would go back just to chat with her. I hope that she had a great time at the concert she went to at the Bluestone when she got off of work :) read more

We were checking out Buckeye Lake and came to this spot for the first time. Low key and casual environment. Dock space available too- people were coming off lake to eat. We had wings, shrimp, and a burger at our table. No complaints about any of the food! Simple and good beer selection and full bar. Friendly service. read more

Never knew about it but when the sun goes down and the cooler is empty man,,, your looking for food and a place to just relax. Just outside the boat launch we saw it, dragged our two burnt boys up on a Saturday night to live music . He played good ol' island bumming songs and seemed to know every one. Everyone was practicing safe distancing, hand sanitizer everywhere and we were able to sit outside and get fabulous service from a great waitress. She was slammed! She must have been the best bc everyone asked for her. Menu could have been better but the burgers were awesome, beer was cold and my chicken grilled sandwich was so yummy, I inhaled it! Shrimp Salad is the best. Boat here. It's a hidden spot that I like to visit when I am in Ohio instead of CA. Great little lake community.

My spouse and I love it here and have good food and service. We go for wing night every other tues. and some times in between. I especially like some of there specials. Had the best fresh tuna on quinoa ~ good price for what tasted like 4 star meal. Not fancy but somewhat like cheers where everyone knows your name!! read more

It's bar food people nothing great. Potato skins dry and not appetizing, Clam basket was so chewy almost could not eat. I thought there should have been more in basket for $10.00. Big disappointment. Years ago they had the best clamp strips...not anymore. Last time we came in had a sub sandwich not what i expected but it was tasty. NO draft beer. Like I said it's bar food. read more

We were checking out Buckeye Lake and stumbled upon this place. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to give water and attention to our pup on the patio. Good food selection for a good price, and you can tell that it was homemade from what we had. Looks like they might have events or live music sometimes since there was a small stage on the patio. This place is right off buckeye lake. It has docks for you to drive right up too. The food is very good, i had the brisket sandwich, however it appears they just opened due to the service level seemed to be lacking. But the waitress tried very hard. Biggest surprise is cash only place and no ATM. read more

This is the third time in 2 weeks we've come here and left after 25-30 minutes without a server checking on us. We live within walking distance but we won't be back. Food is average at best anyhow. Hopefully the new owner will care more about the quality of swrvice and food. read more

Like Cheers, show up here a few times and everybody knows your name. Signature meal is John's portabella bacon and blue cheese burger. It is gooood. It has what I call standard bar fare, but also surprisingly good and interesting regular and special meals. Really fun in warm weather - sit on waterside patio and enjoy live music. Not a good dining experience at all! The server was not able to tell us what kind of beer they offered. The jerked chicken wings were tasteless and swimming in oil. I was brought the wrong meal and it took over 20 minutes to bring out the correct one even though the restaurant was not busy. By the time my meal arrived my husband had already finished his dinner. This was the only non pizza place we could find to eat at Buckeye Lake on a late Sunday afternoon. The place had good atmosphere - indoor/outdoor eatery with boat dock (for when the lake is usable again). I ordered the seafood delight and the clams and shrimp were tasty- I didn't care for the friend oysters. Dad ordered a hamburger and said it was delicious. We love this place. It aint no fine dining. It doesn't have Zagat ratings or Michelin stars. Just great and reliable bar food, good service and reliability. You can show up any time, find a seat, a chill, fun and family-friendly atmosphere and get a bite to eat. This place never seems to get crazy or boring. Just keeps on chugging along doing its thing along a little backwater with some docks. If you sit outside you can watch the sunset over the lake, albeit over a railing a little bridge, road, some land and a boat launch but the sunset is still great. We come with our two year old. She runs around and throws stones in the water. Feels like a little secret. We always sit outside. Inside is super dark and old school. Lots of regulars in there. Anyway, it's a good spot. First off the place needs spruced up a little, there was quite a few dead bugs in the window next to our table, Service was very poor, waitress gave us small cups for our soda pop, went to bartender for refills , she gave me proper size cups, waitress brought us our salads but no silverware, so went back to bartender for that also, the croutons seem to be homemade, but was like a grease ball, the girl busing tables got things for us as our waitress was MIA , took at least 20 min to get a mixed drink, since we was on the lake, we wanted to try their seafood, it was below average(Captain D's is better) the only thing we liked was the cheese sticks. Well, not surprised. My girl and I stopped in for lunch today. One other person was eating at the bar with another having a drink. Basically empty. Service was speedy but a bad day for a stress test due to an empty establishment. We ordered cheese sticks and two cokes. We received four cheese sticks that were smaller in size than copper penny. At copper you get five larger for the same cost. I then ordered the triple decker club and fries. Presentation was good for a simple dish. Fries were a battered seasoned cut that were fried nicely. She ordered a fish sandwich with the same fries. Problem with most places around is that they share the exact same recipes while buying the same product from the same vendor. This said why drive from Somerset to millersport for a fish sandwich that I can get at the hole in the wall! There is no wow factor anymore anywhere!!!!! So for $40 we got 4 cokes cheese sticks and two sandwiches. You leave feeling ripped off. For $7 or $8 I could have ordered their Maryland crab cake sandwich. Ok, a 1 lb can of real lump crabmeat is around $30. So for what they are charging it tells me the crab cake consist of mostly stove top stuffing.... then before leaving we overheard the staff discussing when the kitchen closes on a Sunday. It was obvious no set hours have been established. Hate inconsistency!!! My culinary teacher always said be either consistently good or consistently bad. All in all no reason to make the drive again. read more
