My absolute favorite ice cream is at this restaurant. I ask for the ice cream first and the food can come as it is ready. This restaurant is always busy and you honestly have to wait a while for the hot food. Our server was friendly and attentive to our needs. We ordered way more food than two people could possibly eat but we knew we could take it home. I love the cappuccino crunch ice cream. It is my all time favorite flavor. The ice cream came out pretty melty because of the extreme heat. Our server apologized for it. The restaurant has games available for the wait. The restaurant is quiet enough for conversation with one of your favorite sons also! The tables were clean as was the restroom. The food is decent. The Stromboli was serviced with cold pizza sauce although we asked for garlic butter. She was not pleased when reminded of it. She brought it out cold as well. When asked to warm again not happy and barely warm. The waitress acted as though we were bother to wait on. It's very unfortunate what has happened to this pizza place since the previous owner had it. Food quality has went down the tubes. Not even remotely the same pizza it used to be. I've been going into this pizza place for over 30 years and the place was consistent and very high quality pie. These new owners need to get back to the basics!!! If it's not broke don't fix it. Clay's is... that local place. Kids work here. (They're kids to me, dammit). It reminds of the "first job" a lot of people get. The food isn't fine dining, but it's *good food.* They have ice cream. They make pizza (and while the crust is okay, the pizzas as a whole are pretty awesome). I've gotten ice cream, pizza, random sandwiches l, BLT, etc etc. it's... simple. Classic. Timeless even. It's not five-star dining and it doesn't need to be. It's just simple, good, food. read more

It's an ok looking place. Slight cafeteria vibe. I guess they're known ror their Stromboli, but that's not what we were in the mood for. Hubby had burger and fries, I had chicken fingers and onion rings and we shared some deep fried mushrooms. Though everything tasted fine, that was it, just fine. Not memorable. Our waitress was really sweet. They had board games you can play while you eat and hang out. We chose this spot because it was on the way to our campsite for the night. We travel often and like to find the local spots when we get a little peckish. I saw this spot on Google Maps with all the reviews and was like, "Well okay! Let's do it!". Turns out, it's an adorable little cafe/diner with a long history and excellent selections and staff! It's a bit unassuming when you see the sign from the roadway. I was a little thrown off, but the cafe is in the parking lot to the back (so says the sign!). There's plenty of parking, and in the time it took me to get parked and changed into something more restaurant-friendly (driving long hours), several people had pulled up and left with pick up orders! Which boded well! Upon entry, the decor is a little stark with it's bright eye-devouring grandmother's kitchen yellow but the walls to the right (in the direction of the bathroom) are covered with stories and notes and wonderful photos of the journey the restaurant had taken. Fun reads. Good info. Otherwise, the front counter is super bare, making it feel like a long forgotten crossroad diner somewhere in the desert, but once you turn the corner it opens up into a pretty large open floor plan with red and white decor reminiscent of the Coke bottle fad someone's grandmother obsessed over. We were seated by a server who looked to be in high school and I only remark on this because throughout our stay it started to make more sense. Put a pin in that. We ordered the cheese sticks to start and they were the kind of cheese stick without the panko breading -- served with "pizza sauce". Not the best cheese sticks I've ever had, but it didn't really matter because it was cheese and I had a need. We got the shredded chicken sandwich with fries, a taco salad, and the three-cheese quesadilla. All of it was exactly what you would expect out of a concession stand-like kind of situation of food/traditional diner fare, but I ain't subtracting stars for that because we knew what we were getting into. They did that level of food and did it very well. The lettuce in my taco salad was crisp and not wilty and weird. The shredded chicken threw us off a little on taste over time, but hey, it's shredded chicken. Essentially -- the food is actually better than you would expect it to be for a neighborhood cafe, and that's good enough for me. We found after exploring the town a bit more that the high school student theme rang true throughout the town, which, pulling the pin out, made this diner even more adorable and homey and sweet. The small town idea seems to be living true here and this diner is a great way to get your bearings when traveling through or just grab a quick and easy meal. read more

Had dinner at Clay's with a group of three. The restaurant is newly remodeled with several new menu items. Our server did a wonderful job of explaining the new items including the homemade pasta dishes. I got the spaghetti and meatballs and another in our party got the chicken fettuccine. Pasta dishes come with cheesy bread, a really nice house salad and house made Italian dressing. The main course was unusual in that it was covered in mozzarella cheese and baked. So it was more like a casserol presentation with the pasta and meatball under cover. Too cheesy for my liking, but the meatball and pasta were good. I'll order the fettuccine next time. read more

My wife and I went last night for the first time. Classic diner feel and service. We had the stromboli and from the first bite, I knew it was different. Josh, one of the owners, told me that the dough was made daily at the restaurant. I could tell. The dough was light and crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and though it has flavor, the flavor didn't interfere with the stromboli. Speaking of which, my wife and I went a little nuts and ordered our own ingredients for the filling. Bacon, Italian Sausage, Onion, and Green Bell Pepper. So delicious, and the large was. more than enough for the 2 of us. We ended up with 4 pieces each for today's lunch. Then came desert. Another place we have drove by so many times on our way to the lake, and today we stopped in for some lunch. The huge ice cream come out front and the bright colors of the building are a nice touch . There is a parking lot with ample space. The diner itself is rather small with about 15 booths inside. You have to write your name on a piece of paper when you get there so don't forget that part or you'll miss your spot in line! The waitresses are all friendly and welcoming to someone who had never been there before, I liked that. My husband ordered a small meat lovers pizza and I ordered a fish sandwich with onions rings. The food came out about 20 mins after we were seated. Immediately I tried an onion ring because they looked so tasty. They were cold and soggy. Ugh... The fish sandwich was tasty but lacked toppings they said would be on it. My husband said the pizza was not cooked long enough And they didn't cut it into squares or slices. He had to use his knife at the table. We ended up sharing a sundae and WOW it was so so good!!! Lots of toppings and the French vanilla ice-cream was so good!! Good food when you want fried, pizza, snack, and/or comfort food. Outdoor seating in warm weather and plenty of indoor seating at a table or if you prefer sitting at the counter, diner-style. Brightly lit and a good spot to hang out for an informal night with your friends or kids. One of the owners came around shaking hands to see how our experience was and this being my first time here I may have looked hard in concentration on a photo series on the wall near our table that spells "CLAYS". He was also able to give me a brief history of the location how it started as an ice cream parlor in the 1930's then went through a series of expansions starting after WWII through the 1970's. If you like to support local business, it doesn't get much more local than this. One of the big reasons I wanted to try this place out and a reason my girlfriend suggested she go back, is a particular food item that you really can only get primarily at a fair: Fried pork tenderloin sandwich. Thin patty of processed breaded and deep fried pork, like a chicken patty if the chicken used to oink. On a bun with your choice of toppings. Sides are sold separately, as this is not a traditional restaurant. You build your meal piece by piece. Sandwich and side? Sandwich and pizza?! No sandwich just sides!! Let your hunger and imagination be your guide. Fries are freshly cut and the chips are fried in-house. They have cheese sticks, onion rings, and many other great comfort foods. If you are watching your cholesterol, they have a salad. But I personally wanted to go the other way. Don't eat the food my food eats. The pizza smelled awesome and maybe I will try it next time. But I was on a mission this first visit. See if the terderloin was the same as the fair food. It. Sure. Was. While slightly smaller, but the Co-owner Mr. Jones, (sorry I forgot his first name) explained they have worked with their vendors for quite some time and in central Ohio there are two places with this legit tasting tenderloin on the menu. I may be paraphrasing. But the other place I heard of was not close to where I had been for most of the day and I heard the food here was far better. After my fine tasting guilty pleasure on a bun, I ordered ice cream. I found out from the server, asking what flavors is futile. There are about 32 flavors and of that 32 there are seasonal flavors and special limited time flavors. I understood. I then asked the next wrong question: what's the weirdest flavor you have of I ice cream? Weirdness is a matter of perspective. For instance, my girlfriend ordered a peanut-butter marshmallow shake... That sounded and still seems gross to me. Change my mind. I dare you to try. I was going to go with strawberry. I am usually that basic with ice cream, until I found out they had Superman Ice Cream. Ice cream I have barely been able to find in its original flavors Som e I was a kid. Pricing is low depending on your level of hunger. For the quality and selection it is far better than any fast food franchise around and again, you are supporting local business and local community eating here. There was enough parking when we got here and there was option of indoor or outdoor eating as well as a carry-out counter. This beat going to the fair in high heat eating until I got sick in the sun. Or just going to a big name franchise locally and getting sick. Great food and friendly staff and owner. I got the feeling the business owners care about their employees here. My only observation was when we arrived it was smokey in here like there was a small fire or something. It didn't take away from or negatively affect our dining experience. We are traveling through the area and were starved. I had been hungry for meatballs, but decided on a pepperoni pizza with a 1/2 Italian salad. Everything was delish! Lightly salted and crisp; a pretty big portion, too. The chicken salad, also homemade, was tasty. More of a sweet relish flavor. Serving size was spot-on and filled the entire bun. I picked their claim to fame stromboli. It was very good! I veered from their traditional pepperoni/sausage/mushroom and stuffed mine with sausage/shrooms/green pepper; of course it was locked and loaded with cheese!
