The east Greenwich location shut down, so now I travel to providence for my fox. They have plenty of seating, and staff are ready to make orders. I ordered online, and the pick up was quick and my name was labeled clear so I can pick up and go. I came on a previous occasion for a sit down, and it was good. Bathroom was clean, and I used my personal hotspot for internet. I am unsure if they do have wifi or not. They should make it more clear. My friend suggested we come here and honestly I was initially a bit skeptical mostly because I don't like raw fish. There was only one [other] time I had a poke bowl that I enjoyed. My first impression was that it was clean in the inside, very spacious with lots of tables, and decorated very nicely. I got really excited when I saw shrimp and chicken on the menu. To not stray too far from the original vision of this dish, I went with the shrimp bowl with brown rice. In a couple minutes it was ready. They have a little water dispenser which is convenient. I loved every bit of it. All the flavors worker really well together, except next time I would ask for less scallions. It was a perfect meal since I wanted something that wouldn't be too taxing on my body since it was later at night. The price was fair, somewhere around $14. There's lots of street parking and it's in a good area. One thing I appreciated too was that we ended up staying a little past close but they were never rude about us overstaying our visit or kicking us out. Hometown poke: how do we love the? Let us count the ways. We have eaten here several times either in store or to go, it is always delicious and fresh. Today I placed an order online ahead only being a few minutes up the street and getting a notification that it would probably take 20 to 30 minutes to make, once we pulled up it was ready within a minute or two. We recently attended a fundraiser and they used the Hometown Poke food truck for their catering. The choices of of Poke bowls were really good, from vegetarian to some full of animal protein. I got the Korean Kick build with some delicious fresh ahi tuna, kimchi, spicy chili sauce, cucumbers, carrots, onions, scallions, garlic crisps, and sesame seed. It tasted delicious and very fresh. Decent Portion, had the poke with kimchee, although it was good, it needed a kick, they gave me what they consider sauce for the poke, but it did not do the trick. They did not at all concern themselves with my feedback. The sauce was orange not red and was not flavorful nor spicy enough. Additionally this dish needed a small kick of sesame oil, none of with was around. Same with my last trip, I liked my meal but it could have easily made the mark, but no effort was made for my satisfaction. I love Hometown Poke! I'm so glad it's in my neighborhood because it's a go to for a fast, healthy, and delicious meal. When you arrive, you can pick between a pre formulated bowl in normal or large, or use the order slips to make your own. Generally, I make my own bowl because you can select unlimited toppings, and I like too many of them. It's also nice because in addition to size, you can say if you want all rice, half rice half greens, or all greens for the base of your bowl, so you can really customize to your hunger level. There are non raw options if that is holding anyone back. In general, bowls are made in a matter of minutes for dine in or take out. The dine in experience is really enjoyable because the restaurant is decorated so nicely with plants and good lighting. There's also a nice patio in the back with picnic tables. read more

Fish-to-rice ratio was fair, and the poke'd fish itself was of fresh quality. PRICE: Anything under 20 bucks for a solid lunch w/ a beverage is affordable nowadays..and that's just about what I paid after adding on a refreshing ice tea to go with it. SERVICE: The staff members were courteous & friendly. You could tell they generally work in harmony and were happy to answer any questions for new customers unfamiliar with this type of food. OVERALL: Their menu is a bit different compared to other poke spots I've been to, which I think adds depth to this whole establishment overall. Hometown Poke has the freshest poke I've found in Rhode Island. When I think of poke, I think of Hometown. More importantly, they just celebrated their one year at this location! There has been some changes in how they take orders and even the way the ingredients are prepared, but everything has been for the better and I'm excited to see them grow. Those girls work hard and they deserve this awesome place! The shop features some local products like Aura's Chocolate and Whisk Me Away's baked treats. For the poke bowls, I love that the toppings are unlimited (of course avocado is extra, there has to be a limit ;) ). I would give 5 stars, but I would need to try the acai bowls and toasts first. On my crazy audition adventure yesterday, I had a bit of time to kill in between, and decided to check out Hometown Cafe & Poké Bar after it's been languishing on my bookmarks list pretty much since they've opened! The cafe is neatly tucked in a residential area off of North Main Street in Providence, and even though you might have to work a bit to find this hidden gem, your efforts will be well rewarded with some of the tastiest poké bowl creations ever! When you step inside Hometown Cafe, you're immediately transported into a curated millennial Instagram feed. Everything is done up in calming shades of cream with light pink accents and quirky pineapple details. They even have Hometown Cafe merch, like super cute t-shirts emblazoned with slogans like "Spicy AF" and "Fresh AF". I'll be back for one of those next time! There's ample seating at community picnic style tables with benches or sun soaked two-tops by the large windows overlooking the street outside. They also have a cute patio out back, complete with twinkle lights that's perfect for evening dining. Get there soon before the Rhode Island fall nights become too chilly! Of course, we're here for the food, and compared to some other poké I've tried, this is exceptional. The seafood is amazingly fresh and tender, and I ordered extra salmon because of that! If you want amazing quality fish-wise, Hometown's got you covered. The variety of toppings is equally impressive, and I loved the fresh mango that was on my bowl. If you're not in a creative mood, you can choose from a variety of chef-created options, but I enjoyed making my own from a checklist they provide at the entrance of the cafe. It really added to the fun and whimsy of this awesome restaurant. The only minus (which is easily fixable) was that my "pokerista" (it's a word now, deal with it) was a little heavy handed with the spicy mayo sauce. It kind of drowned out the flavor of the fish (which I wanted to taste since it was wicked fresh!), so be sure to ask for light sauce to avoid this. Even with the minor ding, I will say that this is worthy of the "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" rating because it's clearly the best poké place in Rhode Island. No matter if you visit their brick and mortar shop on Camp Street or the mobile food truck (still gotta get there!), you're definitely in for a treat! read more

10000% Wow! I came to Road Island for a quick weekend and wow I was pleasantly surprised with the poke here. It was soooo good! I got Korean kick bowl and the boba milk tea and it was quality I didn't expect from a random shop in RI. I am originally from Los Angeles CA and have family back home in Hawaii and it was as authentic as it can get. When ordering their in person, there is a menu of poké bowls that you can choose from, but I ended up choosing the option where I made my own bowl. Entree - okay I made my own bowl so I could be messing up exactly what I got in it but from what I recall I got a regular-sized bowl with brown rice, tofu, carrots, edamame, ginger, fukake (idk if I'm spelling that correctly) and avocado. This place is a favorite of mine and of everyone in my office. I try to eat healthy, and I am very picky about quality ingredients. Hometown Poke is always reliable when it comes to freshness, I especially love their protein-packed bowls after an intense workout. I highly recommend the Korean Kick, I get it with a mix of white rice and salad greens, extra Ahi Tuna and extra kimchi(so flavorful and crunchy!). I don't know what they do to their rice, but it is so tasty even on its own. I think they special order their rice? It's a great, bright & inviting place to bring friends, family, colleagues or even first dates as the interior is VERY instagrammable. My only disappointment has been the miso soup, which was a bit too vinegary and tangy for me, although don't get me wrong, I finished the bowl l! The space is so beautiful and deceptively simple in its design. Everywhere I sit I discover some other pretty and restful feature, though. I love the wooden trellises running across the ceiling, and the lighting choices! Spacious restroom too. There are toast choices available all day, though I'd stick to eating them at breakfast. Okay, so I've only ordered take out so far, but I did go inside the shop and loved it immediately. It is a sparkling gem among Camp Street, and I noticed they are a cash free facility (correct me if I'm wrong) and they even have a compost bin inside the store! This is the future, my friends. I ordered the spicy shrimp bowl with half brown rice and half mixed greens (their menu offers specialty bowls or build your own)--if building you're own, you get to choose the base (white rice, brown rice, mixed greens, or combos of rice and greens); a protein (tuna, shrimp, chicken, tofu, maybe salmon?); a sauce; veggie toppings; extras (like avocado). It seems like you can modify existing bowls with toppings as well, but I went with their standard, and oh man. LOVED IT. I am already dreaming about going back! I was excited to hear that Hometown Poke opened up a café in the Mount Hope area. The owners are extremely friendly and hardworking, and so I was happy to see their dreams unfolding. Additionally, I really enjoy the fact that Hometown Poke sources their ingredients and products locally whenever possible from New England vendors, meaning when you support them you are supporting our community. The café is very spacious, with a combination of large and small tables to accommodate all guests sizes. The decorations are trendy, minimalist, and overall a great space for dining or enjoying a cup of coffee. When you're ready to order, you can choose from one of their signature bowls or build your own. I decided to build my own poke bowl with mixed greens, chicken, and all the fixings that I liked. Truly a wonderful and delicious experience! And just an FYI, their protein portions are large compared to most poke places! I decided to try their South Toast which had ricotta, sea salt, thick cut bacon and local honey. It was delicious! I need to try the others next time I visit. I went in tonight to grab my bowl. I told them I was there for the Yelp event and they quickly found my name on the list and offered me a beverage - I went with a Mexican Coke. For dinner I got the hometown classic - on a mix of brown rice and greens. I kind of wish it took a little longer to make because the cafe itself is super cute to sit in - love all the plants - and I was taking dinner to go. But they were handing me my order before I knew it. Drove myself home and enjoyed a delicious dinner - so fresh and light but filling. ....Not great. I'm a huge poke fan. Grabbing a bowl on the go is essentially one of my go-to meals when I'm looking for something relatively healthy and quick. The husband and I usually order from Pokeworks or Poke Bros but I figured Hometown looked fantastic from all the raving reviews, so we gave it a try for lunch today. We played it safe with chicken and shrimp with all the fixings. Unfortunately one bite of shrimp and I was greeted by a terrible, deeply fishy and foul taste. Cooked shrimp should absolutely not taste like that and I'm more than a little disturbed. Visually it looked fine and neither of us could smell anything putrid although to be fair, it was covered in onions, sauce, etc. The chicken was a bit fatty but okay while the brown rice was fine but I couldn't eat much more after the fishy shrimp explosion in my mouth. A couple bites and we were both done. We're both -really- hoping the shrimp wasn't spoiled and that this was just a case of poor deveining technique as improperly cleaning a shrimp prior to cooking can also cause an intense, fishy taste albeit this is less of a safety issue than a quality issue. Either way, it unfortunately doesn't look like we'll be order from here again and definitely wouldn't feel safe enough to try anything raw. It may have just been a one-off situation but it's a hard pass from us. read more

Hometown is my go-to in Providence when I want a quick, healthy, and affordable meal. I always order a custom bowl, but you can't go wrong with any of their signature bowls!!! the fish is always super fresh, along with the rest of their ingredients. I love that I can add on extra protein to my bowl as well, sometimes necessary especially after a crazy workout. I also love going there for coffee and toast. I think a lot of people don't realize they are ALSO a cafe, so they have breakfast food as well. It's super peaceful to get some work done, or read a book.
