Not a great first impression. Connective tissue in our tacos, food didn't have great flavor profiles, and we felt it was extremely overpriced for lunch. We started off with guac and chips. The guac by no means was fresh and the chips tasted stale and store bought. We tried a few different tacos and none of them wowed. The only item I would recommend again to someone would be the chopped salad. It had a good crunch to it. Terrible service. Just sat at the bar for 10 minutes and no bartender in site. Only 4 people at a 20+ person bar btw. Server came up and then came up again 5 min later with a water. She was the only thing positive about the place. Manager 5ft from me and no acknowledgement of what was going on. Dined with a group of ppl last month at Honcho. I highly recommend going with a group so you may try a variety of things on the menu. The appetizers were the highlight for me, we shared the bacon mac/cheese quesadilla which was BOMB but wouldn't recommend for a solo meal because it's very rich and filling. The chips/salsa/guac was standard and delicious . The loaded fries with egg was also very good. I got the Rice bowl with the hot chicken also a lot of flavors and appetizing. Had the chance to try a taco and have to say for a taco joint it was the weakest of all things we ate. The best dessert were the mini doughnuts with hot caramel and chocolate dipping sauces . We sat at the bar, service there was super friendly although a tad slow (only because they spend time being super friendly to other customers), but great in advice. Decent beer/wine selection (had both) and yummy margaritas. We had four tacos (they have three types of shelling on them), three were awesone but the hot chicken was a bit dry and not hot. The guac (with peas!) tasted super fresh as did the chips made daily in Detroit's Mexican town. Not cheap, but a great spin on Mexican food. Best advice; you must save room for the donuts! read more

This is my favorite place to eat in downtown Clarkston. It has a very inviting atmosphere and the patio seating is perfect for sipping in margaritas and soaking up some sun. The chop salad is my favorite topped with grilled chicken! The cilantro lime vinaigrette makes this salad light and refreshing. The shaved caramelized brussels tacos with a side of cilantro lime jasmine rice and miso refried black beans is killer. Let me start out by saying. This is one of the only Mexican restaurants that I've ever dined at that did not offer complimentary chips and salsa with your meal. Perhaps the servers should inform their customers. The service in general was lackluster at best, period! The house margarita was $8, it was super sweet, weak, and gone in about 4-5 drinks. The food was "ok", do yourself a favor and go to any number of the Mexican restaurants in Pontiac that offer much better, authentic, and cheaper food than here. Some of the best food in the country. Everything is the best ingredients and portions are more than fair. Their service is fabulous as well. You can't go wrong at any of their restaurants. Honcho has a great atmosphere and great food! I don't understand how people cannot like it but to each their own. We usually start with the chips and salsa platter and get the three salsas. Very good. I've tried all of their tacos, and while I liked them all, the fish tacos are amazing. I get them in the Champ shell. I was very sad when they closed during the pandemic and I was getting take-out from them pretty regularly. Too many ingredients in a single menu item. For example, the chopped pickle detracts from the good burrito flavors. I really like McClures pickles, but not in my burrito. They were very distracting. I think IF the burrito did not have the pickles I would have given it a five star rating. We ended up pouring the Peruvian Green dipping sauce over it. OMG. Problem solved. I LOVE that sauce! It covered up the pickle taste. You can get it with the chips and salsa. Chips come with a trio of sauces. A pineapple/tomato salsa, a green Peruvian sauce and the UNION salsa. Rating good to bad, the green sauce is AMAZING, #!. The pineapple chutney is so-so, chopped too large for easy dipping, the UNION salsa #3 was just plain awful. Note: It is $2.50 for a small portion cup of the Peruvian green sauce. We were going to order more to go with the rest of our chips... :-( The HONCHO MARGARITA. Very good indeed! We will go back, but we will be a little more selective in our menu choices... And see if they can delete ingredients, like the pickles! If you like to sit at the bar, the stools are extremely comfy. Visited here right when it opened, although it was busy, the staff were efficient, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was pleasant.

First, I'd have to say Johnnie was a great server!!! This is another excellent eatery that falls under the Union Joints family of restaurants. You will not be disappointed! Excellent food. Husband had the chicken burrito and had just the right warm spice to it, creamed black beans, and lime/jasmine rice. I had the chicken taco. Just a hint of spice, but not too spicey for my sensitive stomach. We then went over to the bar side/coffee side of the restaurant, which has a cool retro loungy garage vibe. We went for lunch at around 11:00. It's a very interesting place. It looks to be a renovated automotive garage. The bay doors were opened and there is seating inside the bay doors and outside. There is a coffee/tea bar which appears to be opened in the morning. Then there are separate doors that open up to reveal the restaurant which doesn't open until 11:00. Very airy seating, very hip, but also quite loud (and there were only about 6 other people dining at 11:00) so I imagine it will be quite loud around dinner time when the restaurant is full. Food was great. I LOVED the rice bowl (I got it with the honcho chicken). My guest got the korean taco and the honcho chicken (you can get it spicy or not so hot). Food was delicious, full of flavor, fresh and very well done. It advertises itself to be latin american but it's more like asian/latin american fusion which creates some interesting flavors. I also had the bubble tea which had "blueberry" like things floating on the bottom which turned out to be tapioca. Not sure about the tea...maybe I just couldn't get over the blue tapioca "pearls". Last by not least, we had the tres leches cake which was to die for and the best tres leches cake I ever had. All in all, food was fantastic, service was great, price reasonable, ambience is cute and interesting with the potential for being really loud if the restaurant is full. If I were to rate this place based on service and atmosphere it would be a 5 start. If I were to rate this based on food alone it would be a 1 star. The food is very disappointing and does not really taste good. Two of my friends and I shared 10 menu items and 9 out of 10 items were not good. Every menu item has to many ingredients and the ingredients do not compliment each other. My suggestion to this place is less is more. Wondering which 1 menu item we tried was great? It was the donuts they are amazing. If I were to come back to this place it would be for drinks and maybe chips and salsa. Or I would come back for some of their coffee they have a great coffee bar and of course the donuts to go with the coffee. read more
