    chicken pupusa

Honduras food is sooo yummy. I loved the pollo frito and the pupusas (especially the bean one!) The pollo frito comes with a plantain side topped with a salsas and sauce mix. The chicken is fried perfectly and the meat inside is very juicy and tender. I really like the bean and chicken pupusas and the curtido paired so perfectly. $8 for 3 decently sized pupusas is a pretty good deal for Galveston. Also, the first time my friends and I came the owner was so nice and friendly to us. She explained the whole menu to us and even brought out some fried plantains with different dips and banana soda for us to try.

First the service was fantastic. They knew right away that we didn't know what we were doing. They let us try some of the fresh juices before ordering. We wound up with the combination platter and papusas. We enjoyed all of the food and the fruit juice was really unique. Yes the outside seems sketchy (per other reviews) but that seems to be the case with a lot of authentic places. The interior is clean and cute.

1st time having Honduran food! Got the carne asada plate! It comes with grilled beef, rice, beans, stick of cheese, fried plantains, and a spicy cabbage radish salad. The plantains, salad, and beef were outstanding. The beef was a little tough and salty, but it was so flavorful and nicely grilled. The fried plantains topped with a thousand island like sauce were my favorite! It's was crispy and tasted exactly like potato fries. The cabbage salad had a nice spicy kick from the pickled jalapeños and radishes and balanced the plate fairly well. Rice and beans were average. Overall, very good!

Delicious soups (marisco con coco & sopa de res) served with lime, corn tortillas and rice.

Good food. Ordered empanadas and 2 soups. Fast and friendly service! Lots on the menu to try.

Restaurant has been in the same location for the past 10 years cannot believe it took us all that time to come in and eat. We started off the meal with aguas frescas- Horchata and pineapple. Both absolutely delicious sweet and perfectly good mix of cinnamon to milk ratio in the Horchata. We ordered the carne asada which came on the bed of plantains with pink sauce a perfectly seasoned white rice with sautéed carrots bell pepper onion with beans. We also got the pupusa plate , very good.! We will return for the fried chicken. The owner was so friendly and accommodating, made it a great family experience.

The food was delicious. It looks and tastes similar to Mexican but with its own unique flavor and they call them different things. Service was good and very helpful. I got the combination plate and liked everything but could only eat half and took to go.

Our server was very friendly. She gave us extra time to look over the menu and kept our glasses full. We got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Fish Tacos. Both really good choices. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. The Sandwich came with French Fries and the tacos came with rice and beans. If you're in Texas City swing by and try them out. Easy parking plus they have a full bar.

But once you arrive, you're in for a real culinary trip south of the border. I dropped in very eager to try one of their taco plates. While the pictures on the restaurant's Facebook page had already piqued my appetite, I wanted to see for myself if they were the real deal. So, for my first meal here, I ordered the Pastor Street Tacos. Like at any good Mexican restaurant, my meal began with chips and salsa. It's an unwritten rule of mine that if the complimentary chips and salsa are good, the main dishes will be just as good, if not better. Fortunately, that rule holds true for Mr. Taco. I tried both the red and green salsas, which were truly spicy--a definite plus in my book. The tacos arrived after a few minutes. While the menu said they were miniature--there were four in total--they were a perfect portion. Anchored by marinated pork and topped with fresh onions and cilantro on corn tortillas, the tacos were accompanied by a bean-filled consomme and rice. With just one bite, I imagined myself on the streets of Guadalajara or Monterey; the authenticity was simply evident. I occasionally dipped the tacos in the consomme, which I could describe as a bit earthy and salty. Overall, the meal was incredibly enjoyable. This dish is a prime candidate for a go-to order on a return visit. I was very well taken care of by our waiter, Samuel. The meal's spiciness had me quickly finishing my water, but he kept the glasses coming without me having to ask. While working on the meal, I was parked in front of one of the business's massive TVs, which were tuned to the Astros game. That said, I consider Mr. Taco an ideal place to catch a game. It helps that it's open until 10 p.m.--or 2 a.m. on the weekends--though a staff member told me that's assuming they're not having a slow night. Price-wise, I'd say the costs are quite fair. My platter was about $13, which would be roughly three dollars more elsewhere.

The first thing we noticed upon entering was how hot and humid it was inside. There did not seem to be adequate air conditioning, which made the environment uncomfortable for our entire visit. After being seated, it took approximately 15-20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink and food order. We ordered chips and queso as an appetizer, but after waiting a long time, we realized it had never been brought out. We had to remind our server twice before finally receiving it nearly 30 minutes later. The service continued to be slow throughout the evening. Several members of our party requested drink refills and additional beverages, but many of those requests were either forgotten or never brought to the table. Communication was lacking, and we often felt ignored. To make matters worse, we learned that parties of six or more are automatically charged an 18% gratuity. While we understand that this is the restaurant's policy, it felt very frustrating given the poor service we received. The level of attention and professionalism throughout our visit did not reflect the type of experience that would normally justify such a charge. We also spoke with another staff member regarding our concerns, hoping for some clarification or acknowledgment of the issues we were experiencing. Unfortunately, we did not receive much explanation or reassurance. We are not the type of people who usually leave negative reviews, but we felt it was important to share our experience so that others can make informed decisions. Between the uncomfortable atmosphere, long wait times, forgotten items, poor communication, and disappointing service, this restaurant was not a good experience for our family, and we do not plan on returning.

Still, the name Shuko had me curious, it's one of Guatemala's most iconic street foods, so I had to try it. For those who don't know, a traditional Guatemalan shuko is street food done right: grilled bun, steamed hot dog, Guatemalan-style guacamole (no onions or tomatoes), sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, and mayo. Their take here is a bit different no guac on mine, but still packed with flavor. A mix of grilled meats, sauerkraut, and condiments all stuffed into a roll. Definitely not traditional, but still tasty. I also tried one of their pupusas, and it hit the spot. A classic revuelta melted cheese and chicharrón oozing out of a perfectly griddled corn masa pocket. Comfort food, plain and simple. Only downside The fries. They were undercooked, a little limp. Just needed a bit more time in the fryer. But overall, if you're into street food with a Central American twist, Shuko 502 is worth the stop.
