Honduras food is sooo yummy. I loved the pollo frito and the pupusas (especially the bean one!) The pollo frito comes with a plantain side topped with a salsas and sauce mix. The chicken is fried perfectly and the meat inside is very juicy and tender. I really like the bean and chicken pupusas and the curtido paired so perfectly. $8 for 3 decently sized pupusas is a pretty good deal for Galveston. Also, the first time my friends and I came the owner was so nice and friendly to us. She explained the whole menu to us and even brought out some fried plantains with different dips and banana soda for us to try. read more

Food is always amazing! Reminds my of my family restaurant growing up. It is self serve but everyone there is very kind !

First the service was fantastic. They knew right away that we didn't know what we were doing. They let us try some of the fresh juices before ordering. We wound up with the combination platter and papusas. We enjoyed all of the food and the fruit juice was really unique. Yes the outside seems sketchy (per other reviews) but that seems to be the case with a lot of authentic places. The interior is clean and cute. read more

1st time having Honduran food! Got the carne asada plate! It comes with grilled beef, rice, beans, stick of cheese, fried plantains, and a spicy cabbage radish salad. The plantains, salad, and beef were outstanding. The beef was a little tough and salty, but it was so flavorful and nicely grilled. The fried plantains topped with a thousand island like sauce were my favorite! It's was crispy and tasted exactly like potato fries. The cabbage salad had a nice spicy kick from the pickled jalapeños and radishes and balanced the plate fairly well. Rice and beans were average. Overall, very good! read more

Restaurant has been in the same location for the past 10 years cannot believe it took us all that time to come in and eat. We started off the meal with aguas frescas- Horchata and pineapple. Both absolutely delicious sweet and perfectly good mix of cinnamon to milk ratio in the Horchata. We ordered the carne asada which came on the bed of plantains with pink sauce a perfectly seasoned white rice with sautéed carrots bell pepper onion with beans. We were driving around Galveston this evening looking for a new unique place to try. All the places we found on Yelp are either too busy or closed. We finally decided to just go back to our usual go-to place (Mercadito Taqueria) since we ran out of options, it's getting late and we're hangry! Before we got to the Mexican place, I noticed the Honduras sign and told my husband to turn around so we can check it out. We saw a few people inside and then I checked on yelp. They had a decent review so we went for it! And I'm glad we did!! At first we were confused about what to do since the counter isn't very visible from when you enter the door. The customers in there are all Hispanics and of course we get the weird looks. We don't speak Spanish so we don't know who to ask what to do either. Then this nice lady came up to us and told us to pick a table. She gave us menus and patiently waited for us to place our order. I ordered the chicken breast dinner for me and my boys shared the fried chicken meal. My husband ordered #6 (forgot what it's called but it looks like an empanada). She served chips and a bean dip. That bean dip is amazing! My youngest kid doesn't eat bananas at all but he ate those banana chips like a champ! The fried chicken is very crunchy and very flavorful. My husband really enjoyed his meal too. We also tried a Honduras soda (grape flavor) and it was interestingly good as well. This is our first time to eat a Honduras meal and it's been a great and delicious first experience! It turns out also, that the lady who welcomed us in is the owner of the place. Such as very nice lady! If there's one thing I would suggest that needed to be changed in her restaurant, that would be a BIGGER sign! I didn't realize they've been around for 3 years! Dropped into this little local spot in Galveston, as my son in law is from Honduras and while we were hanging out on the island, decided to try it. The food was very fresh and pretty tasty. It's defiantly a "hole in the wall" dive kinda place, so don't expect elaborate digs to dine. We had essentially a sampling of things from balaedas (kind of a breakfasty quesadilla combo), to pastalitos (essentially their version of empanadas) along with sides of tasty refried beans and fried green banana (tajada) - and yes green bananas, not plantains...try them it's a whole new world. Several sauces and salsas were presented, all tasty...its basic spins on what most are used to from many Mexican foods, but the combinations and spices (or lack of) create the Honduran taste. For example chismol, which may appear to be your garden variety pico de gallo, but it's not - base is onion, tomato and bell pepper (not jalapeño), and could have diced radish or cucumber in it, which gives it a very different flavor from its Mexican cousin. Definitely worth a try, if you're looking for relatively authentic Honduran "street" fare. read more

I don't understand how this place has good ratings. We (party of 2 ladies) walked in on an early weeknight evening when there was only one table seated. The workers all looked up at us but didn't smile or greet us. We sat ourselves and waited. And waited. Nobody acknowledged us the entire time. We didn't try the food because it seemed like they didn't want us there at all. After 20 minutes we got up and left. Came here for lunch on a Friday with 4 friends. Decor was pretty run-down for a newly opened restaurant (relocated). Bare walls, except for remnants of whatever the prior restaurant had up there. Paper signs on the door. Tables old and very worn. Atmosphere was in the 1 to 2-star range. My wife said she'd feel uncomfortable coming here alone, but wanted to try the food. Servers were friendly and helpful (one didn't speak English, but not a problem). Iced tea was absent from the beverage selection. Here in Texas, that's kind of like not having water. On the plus side, there was freshly made lemonade and tamarind juice. I got the latter, and it was nice. 3 of us got the fried chicken entree (pollo frito), and 2 got the fried pork chop. All of our dishes came with fried plantains. The fried chicken was good (though sadly not Pollo Campero amazing), as were the pork chops. The fried plantains were disappointing -- on the rubbery side, neither soft (which I like) nor crispy (which I like even more), and bland. Overall, I'm generously giving this place 3 stars for the service and meat portion of the entrees. I'd feel more comfortable with this status if they were to upgrade the decor, adding some decoration to the bare walls and updating the tables and chairs. This place has a prime location on Broadway, there's no reason this couldn't become a 4-star quality sort of place (they might consider a more interesting name). As-is, I'm not in any rush to return. read more

Went there this past weekend with the wife. Food was great! I ordered Carne Asada plate, it was great and they give you plenty of food for the price. Wife ordered Baleadas, which were pretty good size for just one. She was full with one. We also ordered pastelitos just to try them, they were a bit oily, but good. Prices are very reasonable for portions. I would visit this place again. This place has great potential to grow. The area is a bit discouraging, but I would imagine safe during busy hours. read more

I ordered the Pastelitos, and my mother ordered the Carne Asada. The Carne Asada came with a bunch of interesting sides, including some pickled onion and jalapenos and fried green plantains, which were both delicious. Worth the stop! After reading the other reviews we decided to take a chance and stop here for lunch. The restaurant was not fancy but very clean. Our waitress was friendly, patient, and very helpful with guiding us through our menu selections. I don't particularly like fried plantains but, when I saw that these were actually green bananas I'm glad I took the plunge and tried them. They were really good and the slaw was delicious. The refried beans were a little bit different than expected; not necessarily in a bad way they were just spiced differently than what I would expect for refried beans -- they were a little bland. However the chips were nice and crisp and light. My friend ordered the seafood soup and it was amazing. Neither one of us could finish our food and took a "doggie bag" with us. The food was even better next day. We plan to make this one of our stops when we are visiting Galveston. Next time I plan to order the seafood soup. read more

This is a little hole in the wall kind of place with the owners crying baby wondering around. I thought the food had pretty good flavor but, very greasy. My eating companion didn't like any of it. We ordered the combination plate and a paposa. The paposa was the best thing we ordered. This place is located next to El Pueblo restaurant. You may park right in front or in the back. Their food is your traditional/authentic food from Honduras. The restaurant is very clean but with little to no decorations. With that said, if you want food this is where to come and eat. First experience with Honduran food and I have to say it was amazing, starting with the friendly staff, the delicious Agua Fresca (I tried both pineapple and tamarind) and the inviting menu with pictures :) I order the combination plate and my friend order the fried chicken, they were both delicious and had big portions love all the flavors I can't pick a favorite the enchilada (looks like a tostada) super crispy the ground meat (Picadillo) was juicy and delicious. Lilly's has delicious, freshly made food in huge portions. We just discovered her place by accident. Very similar to another reviewer, other places were closed and I just happened to notice the sign and people sitting at tables. I had the pupusas plate and my daughter had the mojarra frita.
