--Rant--- I'll try to keep this short but frankly it's a long sad story of failed due diligence on my part before taking my car here. This all happened last summer... Lemme see if I can sum all this up: - Visit 1: AC Compressor blew out. Took it here, estimate: $2200 to fix. I say let's do it! - Visit 2: AC working kind of but discovered it was leaking refrigerant. Brought it back. Said it was a faulty compressor (keep this excuse in mind....) - Visit 3: Fixed the leaking refrigerant but then ***engine started leaking oil profusely*** AND the AC was turning off on its own after about 5 seconds. Brought it back to them to diagnose and fix. Said it was a faulty compressor and that they'll order another one - Visit 4: Brought it back again to diagnose and fix. AC still not working, still leaking oil. Said to bring it back when they get a different compressor. - Visit 5: Still couldn't fix it. About this point is where they recommended I go to their sister shop to have it diagnosed and repaired by their higher-end techs. This shop was about a 40 min. drive but at least offered me a loner car free of charge which I greatly appreciated. Left it with them for diagnosis and repair - Visit 6: This was their final diagnosis because (get this) the owner of the first shop told them NOT to put any more work into the car because "we've done all we can". Now keep in mind thus far, 6 visits in + 1 Toyota to see if they had any idea (nope and in fact they said the engine had so much oil everywhere they would rather replace the whole thing for $10k than figure out what's wrong) and NO ONE was able to fix my truck. This was their final diagnosis: - The AC problem is due to a super rare issue where some "electromagnetic interference" is disrupting the AC Compressor / Engine signal. Toyotas apparently shut the compressor down at certain times to save energy via this sensitive signal. Ok sure whatever. - The oil leak was caused because Toyota installs terrible valve cover gaskets. If that final diag wasn't whacky enough, they wanted AN ADDITIONAL $1400 TO FIX JUST THE VALVE GASKET COVERS, not even considering any work with the AC because they didn't even know where the supposed "electromagnetic interference" was coming from. Six+ visits, AC still not working, the first garage caused a severe oil leak AND didn't even own up to it. Now to truly grasp the absolute depth of pure f**kery coming from Clownworld here...don't worry there's a super happy ending to this story...I decided NOT to let my baby go to the junkyard with all her super expensive and apparently "mysterious" problems and took it to ***CMD Automotive in Charlotte***, told them all of the above and they said "we'll try"... Remember that original price tag I paid $2200 and the additional $1400 they asked for to fix just the valve gasket covers? - AC fixed. Turns out Toyota installs these expensive two-part compressors and 90% of after-market AC Compressors are incompatible. The price tag to get the original parts is about $1200, for which I refused. However, their electrician said he could jerry-rig a switch in my cab to bypass the signal using an after-market Compressor. Cost: $500 parts and labor - Oil leak fixed. NOT THE VALVE GASKET COVERS AT ALL. Those were actually totally fine!!! Turns out it was the front crank seal leaking. Cost: $312 parts and labor Honest-1 Auto: $3600 cost + estimate to fix a problem they couldn't (the AC) and to fix another problem they caused (oil leak). Ended up getting both fixed PERFECTLY for just over $800. To make this story even more gravy and a Karma-Win for the consumer, my credit card company sympathized with the situation and got my money back via claim dispute. The basis of my claim? Look at all the other low-and-one-star reviews here and on Google! They have a documented history of overcharging and false diagnoses. Glad things worked out in the end and my baby runs well now... ...thanks to ***CMD Automotive in Charlotte***... Avoid H1 Autocare at all costs! ---Overall--- Service: A. Friendly! As bad as the results were, everyone I spoke with was super cool! Go figure! Services: F-. THE NAME OF THIS ORGANIZATION IS A JOKE - THANKS FOR NOTHING I feel completely cheated. I brought a 2007 Toyota Avalon for a diagnostic and specifically asked the guy if the $160+ charge meant they'd be going beyond AutoZone's free code-reader service. Instead I got less than that. They never checked or spoke of the coolant issue I raised, nor did they address the cruise control being suddenly inactive. Instead they INCORRECTLY DIAGNOSED that the sensor had gone bad, when it had actually been simply unplugged. So had I listened to their self-serving diagnostic, I'd have paid $800+ more replacing something that just needed to be plugged back in. THE GUY WHO FIXED IT CHARGED ME LESS THAN THEIR FALSE DIAGNOSTIC. Then there was the remarkable attitude change once they had my payment in hand. Suddenly I was invisisble, standing at the front desk for literally 5 minutes without the attendant ever glancing my way or making the slightest indication I was there. It was downright hostile, especially since during our earlier phone call he'd three times said "God bless" when I hearing we were trying to sort out the title change on the car following a death in the family - which first required clearing the check engine light. His abruptness and change of attitude was striking. This alone would've kept me from ever returning. But to act this cold, irritated and impatient with me the customer, then providing a WRONG AND LAZY diagnostic, handed me paperwork that did not address the very issues I'd raised up front -- in the process riping me off for $160 and teeing me up for another $1K in repairs. I did not have a good experience and would not recommend them. I am a minister and serve those struggling with addiction & the unhoused living on the streets. My car is vital in this ministry. They had my car for over an extended period of time, called me in the last few minutes they were open Friday to tell me the car was ready but there was no one there who could pick me up after I was assured they could pick me up as they were more than happy to take me home . So I was not able to get my car because they were closing soon and as the guy on the phone informed me they are closed on the weekend . This was all very frustrating and a huge disappointment in addition to the utter lack of consideration or care. There are people I minister too who do not get anything to eat that day , if I don't bring them food and water. I was not able to do this because of these lackluster practices this business engages in . Then when my car was finally returned to me, after very expensive (over) payment had been received, it was not repaired. I was driving down the road and it began to hard shift again. Only after my regular mechanic had recovered from surgery and came with me to speak to them was my car finally repaired and running right. I was not treated as a valued customer either and that is an understatement. I was driven back to the business recklessly and dangerously by an employee who was clearly resentful he had been given the task. He actually ran right through a red light at a street crossing where pedestrians and school children walk. Is this how little you value people? It is is neither prudent nor is it wise to prey upon a praying woman of God. You caused great burden & increased hardship to not only me but to those I minister to also. Took my teen's car for oil change and inspection. I drop off at assigned time and walk across to the gym, and then walk back an hour later. Car is ready. Simple as that! They're always friendly, helpful to me as a woman (explaining what I need to understand in terms I can grasp), and do what they say they will. Referred my 82-year-old gym friend there who said there was no such thing as an honest mechanic and she too was surprised at the spectacular service she received. My only complaint from yesterday? I had high hopes for Honest -1 auto care after reading their positive reviews. However I'm disappointed in how I was treated after having my service. I had the front brakes done and they inspected the rear brakes. My wife noticed a strange noise right away which we thought was the rear wear indicator. The noise got worse every day so I checked the wheel and was shocked to see that 3 of the 5 nuts had fallen off. This only happens when the nuts aren't properly torqued. I just spent 3 hours back in their shop while they "diagnosed" the situation (made me sit there.) Long story short, they offered to give me a $20 coupon or free lug nuts if I bought a $465 rear brake job. Wow. They implied it was my fault, insisted they tightened the nuts, and basically called me a liar. The thing was, I might have had the rear brakes done there if they would have apologized and given me something for putting our lives in danger and for my trouble. Repairs were done; but, unfortunately, 7 days later, on 9/20/23, the truck broke down and we again had it towed to Honest-1 where it was discovered the first repair was faulty; they took care of that based on their guarantee. However, they refused to take care of the tow bill, replying only "we don't take care of towing," despite the fact the tow was necessary only because their previous repair was faulty. Also, in spite of their "complimentary" digital vehicle inspection (DVI) supposedly done at another visit on 8/4/23 and which covers, among other things, belts, hoses, battery life remaining, etc. the 9/13/23 service noted "battery terminals corroded, loose, or damaged." The DVI was worthless if it failed to uncover corroded, loose or damaged battery terminals. As a small business owner myself, I like doing business with other small businesses; however, I will not be doing further business with this company, Unfortunately, Honest-1 did not live up to its name in my situation. read more

Like many of you, I picked this location based on the name. But that clearly was a mistake I won't make again. Lesson learned. I brought a used car in for an inspection at this location. The main goal was to see what needed attention right away. They did their inspection and brought back a list of items wrong (okay fine). Oh, they also claimed to have replaced the battery the same day. The battery was smaller than what was originally in the car. But about 2 weeks later their battery was dead. The part that I'm frustrated about and why I don't think the name "honest-1" fits them, to do more inspections, they recommended doing an oil dye test to determine where the oil is leaking from (another $100 something bucks). They also recommended I drive the car for a week and bring it back in so they can check the oil leak. So I agreed and they add oil and dye. But only to be told by them AFTER I LEFT that the "car isn't safe to drive." So my question Honest-1 Auto Care, why in the world recommend an oil dye test instead of stating upfront "the car isn't safe to drive?" I really don't understand the logic there. I feel I've been swindled out of 200+ dollars (dye test + battery). I called and asked about a refund, and was told "we have to check on that." That was nearly 1 month ago on May 24th... I've been to Honest-1 for major repairs for more than one occasion. Every time they have under promised and over delivered just as every business should. The first time they were completely honest about the fact that I didn't need to get a new alternator yet. The technician literally took his time and traced every wire to the alternator to see what the malfunction was. The second time I went for a oil leak and because my car is older there were some unexpected problems that they were very thorough in explaining to me and showed me. I love the fact they are proactive with communication and actually show you what you need to know to make decisions for your vehicle. read more

This shop is great! I've been here three times and always get quick and professional service. The first time I had a noise coming from my underbody. Within a half an hour they checked it out and it was an easy fix. They didn't charge me anything. In 2017, I just took the car in for my state inspection. It was a Wednesday midday. Within a half an hour they were done. I highly recommend this place. Just two issues: In January of 2018, the man that answered phone told me that state inspection could only be done 30 days in advance. Though, the paperwork from the state said 90 days. I also called two other mechanics and they affirmed 90 days. I called back and told a female that this was in question. She did say it is 90 days. The other issue was that when I left the man at desk told me he'd call me as soon as my car was ready and he inspection was complete. I waited 3 hours and called back before closing time. The man said the car was ready. So, I basically had to call to check for a car that was probably already ready for hours . But again, I would definitely recommend this to neighbors, friends and the Yelp community. I'm sure you'll be taken care of to your liking. They also have a nice waiting area with free WiFi, a computer, tv and free water bottles and coffee. read more

A while back....we had humming noise from under motor, took Honda Civic to Honest Care for diagnosis, said it needed a new transmission $5-6000 dollars. Car had 200,000 mi so we thought could be, but decided to take it to Statesville Transmission, they drove it around the block said transmission seemed fine, leave it for further check. Following week called said it was a loose metal heat shield, fixed, no charge, amazing. Called Honest and asked for a refund on their 'misdiagnosis.' Manager/Owner was initially reluctant to refund the $50, but eventually agreed. Can you imagine had we believed Honesty's diagnosis? Car is running fine! Very basic. I asked to get an RV checked out, all fluids checked including oil change and see which repairs were needed as I had just bought the vehicle and needed to take it across country. They did the fluids, test drove it could not find anything wrong, even though the motor kind of clicked or rattled a bit and the steering wheel felt loose to me, and I had to remind them of the oil change after picking up the vehicle. They gave me an estimate of $1100 to change the fuel pump and said everything else was in working order. I left got an estimate elsewhere and got EVERYTHING fixed for the same $1100. No rattling, no faulty fuel pump gauge, steering wheel, all belts renewed and then some. I'll do another review shortly on the place I went to instead. Honest was polite, but waaaaay overpriced and did not listen to my needs at the time. read more

They provided me the worst customer service ever! All the bad reviews that I read about this place should have kept me away, however I needed a wheel alignment done and they offered a coupon so I went to get a wheel alignment and they treated me unfairly. I had a coupon for a wheel alignment so I went in and I was watching the technician trying to do it and then I saw him start to struggle with the front and then eventually he could not complete the maintenance due to the tie rod. They told me I would need to have it replaced in order to complete the wheel alignment. So then, I was thinking okay I will come back and have it done because I had somewhere else to be. This was the worst service ever because I was charged for a service they could not complete. How is fair to fully charge for a service you did not complete? I told the guy that, "hey I think I should pay half since the maintenance was not complete." Then, he tells me "well, I didn't charge you for using the blow torch and all these other fees." What is really disappointing was that I was willing to come back to do the tie rod maintenance and have the maintenance complete, but after he charged me for a service they could not complete, I will not ever be coming back here. I understand that half of the wheel alignment was complete, but not fully, so why are you charging me the full price? Seriously everyone, read the bad reviews before you come here! UPDATE: I receded one of my stars because of 2 reasons: 1) I talked to CJ who is the nicest person there behind the desk. He apologized for Virgil's behavior and said it was unacceptable. He assured me that Gregg Leftwich, the owner, would call me to address my issues. Never happened to this day. 2) Immediately leaving the driveway, I hear a loud thump. I pull over, open the hood and it's clear they didn't even bold my battery back down. It was moving all about and could have easily fallen out while driving. 25 minutes later, they finally get it back to normal. What a complete waste of an auto shop. There is potential here for a great franchise. It's just currently not functioning like it could. read more

Do NOT take your car here. They did work which I asked , an oil change.Then told me my steering pump was leaking and my timing belt was worn and frayed. I questioned the mechanic about the timing belt since it was replaced only 18 months before. He back tracked on this. Timing belts are good for 100,000K miles before they need replacement. I had another shop check the steering pump and they said no leaks and it was fine. Furthermore, on my next oil change at another shop, I was told the threads on the oil pan were stripped and they had to change the pan itself. A $600 repair. The reason the threads were stripped because the oil pan lug nut was over torqued or over tightened. The last people to do the oil change was Honest One. I heard a similar story about this shop from a neighbor regarding work that did not need to be done. Get a second opinion before you have ANY major work done on a car. read more

I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience I had with with Honest-1 Auto Care. It's places like this that make me glad to live in the south. I went in for a pre-purchase inspection. They were running late so they put two mechanics on the car to get me out in a reasonable amount of time. They walked me through every issue with the car, what it would cost to fix, and in what time frame it would need to be done. The mechanic who did most of the work even recommended a good mechanic closer to my home (I'm not living in the area). We thought we found a great auto repair outside the dealership, but were so wrong. My a/c was running warm so took it in May. They said dirty cabin filter, worked for about a month then back in running warm again. This time was the expansion valves, another few weeks goes by and running warm again. Now up to about $500. Third time it's the evaporator core which we learned was probably the problem from the beginning. This is a $1600 repair due to the labor involved as the dashboard comes off to get to the core. When I picked my car up after now multiple days of three repairs over two months, the air was not warm but even after a tech checking it out, I know my car and I will never agree it blew as cold as it used to. My main issue though was that my dashboard was damaged in 4 areas from the repair when it was taken off or replaced. No one pointed this out to me when I was leaving!! As if I might not notice !! My car is older but the inside was in pristine shape and they ruined that!! The service mgr took pictures and said it would be taken care of. I had to go in five days later to have a body shop do an estimate-/once more hours spent without the use of my car. I stayed and waited because I knew they would be more timely if I was sitting there. I was never called about the estimates for four business days. Then I was going to have to leave my car again for days--because of their tech's negligence!! I spoke to the owner Greg who was very defensive from the beginning. He never apologized for their mistake nor for no one telling me of the damage. I wanted a partial refund and he Said that's not a policy of theirs. He never offered me a rental or anything for my inconvenience. He is mostly at the Ft Mill location, which is where my car was taken for the repair. He and the service mgr had different versions of who failed to communicate with me about the damage. I could not leave my car again for days so I moved on from there on the dashboard issue. The name really fits this auto repair shop - HONEST with friendly professional service! I came in to have a slow leak in a tire looked at/repaired. They took the time to look at my tires, identified an industrial staple that was lodged within the tread, explained that it couldn't be safely repaired by patch or plug due to the staple being in the tread and suggested I see if the 2 yr old tires are under warranty. They didn't charge me anything for their time and inspection. I felt like a valued customer and would surely go back for service on my vehicles! FYI - the waiting area is comfortable and the coffee bar and cold bottles water is nice. All they need is free WiFi :-) read more
