For me, car repairs are kind of like going to a doctor in a foreign country for an urgent ailment. I don't speak the language, know it might cost a lot, and that my health or safety is at stake. I have to trust someone I don't know to be honest and accurate in their diagnosis and to communicate that to me. Too often that doesn't happen. Recently, my 90+ year old parents' 1992 Camry station wagon failed it's emissions pressure test and we took it to my parent's dealership (the one where they bought the car new 22 years ago and have had all work done since then) - and had a very strange and stressful experience (misdiagnosis, expensive repairs, additional emissions fail, really expensive parts, service advisors on commission!!!, offers to buy cheap, willing but unable to rectify due to company regulations) concluding with towing the car to Honest-1, bringing it's cracked gas tank along separately, and asking them to replace the gas tank (without a lot of explanation about the dealership fails). They installed the tank I ordered on-line, at a fair price. The car failed again (not the end of the story!!). THIS IS WHAT IMPRESSES ME ABOUT HONEST 1: 1) They explained clearly to my 92 year old dad the pros and cons of repairing a tank vs replacing with new, and suggested low cost sources for a good tank. 2) They reminded me nicely of what I hadn't told them about the whole emissions fails history so I could clarify the extent of the problem. 3) They didn't jump on a "slam the dealership" bandwagon, but honestly and fairly assessed the merits of what I had been told by them, putting it into a language I could understand. 4) I may have come across as pretty paranoid, which I was after the dealership interactions, but they calmly explained things with no salesmanship, hype or rush. I really, really, really appreciate that. 5) They clearly defined the cost of diagnostic testing, and researched and found the additional problem(s), which they communicated to me, then repaired at a fair price. The car passed emissions testing with incredibly low values, near zero. My nephew, who recommended Honest-1, has decent mechanical knowledge, and says he has observed these men acting honestly when they didn't know how much he knows. I expressed my appreciation to Tracy, who responded, "All we try to do is our best - on every car every day. It's all about being open and honest." I believe him. I've heard that something like 8/10 auto repair shops overcharge and overprescribe. I see other reviews, and know that this is a complex business, where diagnosis is not simple. Communication with people, in any business, is a major challenge, and can't be done perfectly. I like a lot of information; others may find that a pain. The level of information here was ideal. My gut and recent experience with Honest-1 tell me they are the rarity, the business that really is governed by honesty and commitment to quality. I'm truly relieved. They did a good job for my parents; I will be bringing my own car here also. Sorry dealerships. Good integrity, good pricing, good communication, good work. read more

Visit this place for basic maintenance like oil change, tire rotation etc. For major issues think twice. My experience-- Since they have decent reviews on yelp, I wanted to give these guys a shot and I definitely wanted to avoid going to Pep-boys, Firestone and other places who keep offering things which most of the time isn't needed.. I'm good at computers but terrible at the other things, so I totally trusted them to resolve an issue. I dropped off my car and few hours later I got a call from them saying a particular part isn't working which they believed was causing the problem. They replaced that part and charged me approx.350$ which I was totally ok with as all I wanted was the issue being resolved. They said they went on a test ride and everything looks fine. Within a day the issue re-occurred and I called them, they asked me to bring the car in and they would take a look at it again. I dropped my car off again and few hours later they called me and said that the part they replaced few days ago was little off from its position and they fixed it. I picked up my car and within few hours, the issue repeated. This time I spoke to the owner and I felt little hopeful and I dropped off my car again. This time, the issue got worse. So, I called them and asked for a refund as the problem for which I approached them wasn't resolved and hoping they are different from the rest but they declined to refund me. I will not go back to them ever. Again, if you have serious issues, think twice before approaching them. read more

Only giving this place one star because I have to. Brought my scion Xa in to get an overall inspection as it was a new vehicle. Got a call back with multiple repairs needed adding up to $2,000 . Car was bought on Craigslist so I wasn't in much shock. Gave the go ahead on a few things which cost me about $800 . Picked the car up and it ran ten times worse and glove box wasn't even put back into place. Drove back there while on the way back the transmission slipped and almost caused an accident. They couldn't find anything wrong. Walked to get back in car and my glove box completely fell out after asking 3 times to fix it. Matt goes "we didn't even touch that" total bs. Called corporate and then received a phone call from the owner. Brought the car back in and tried discussing getting some money back considering I paid more in labor for them to mess my car up even more. And he disagreed and also raised his voice at my boyfriend. Totally unprofessional. Brought it back again because my rear brakes gave out which they replaced and I almost rear ended someone. " we will lube the brakes up and bleed them again" is all I got. Car continues to run worse every day. Will be getting a second opinion on it tomorrow and calling corporate after. Worst experience and I honestly do not trust any one of them to touch the vehicle again. I would rather pay more at another shop then allow that. Owned this car for 2 months before bringing it in and it ran just fine until this. NEVER bring your vehicle here. Total rip off. read more

I took my car in yesterday to get the oil changed before leaving on a road trip of several thousand miles today. Everything checked out great ... except my tires. 2 of my tires had no tread left at all. If I had taken off like that, I would have gotten stranded somewhere along the way. The guys at Honest-1 are so thorough with their inspections and it saved me a lot of grief. They had 2 new tires delivered, installed them & sent me on my way. Honest 1 auto repair in paradise valley was a good experience for me. I had the timing chain tensioner replaced on my 2006 Pontiac Vibe, which actually has a Toyota Matrix drive train. The repair was $200 and done on time. This shop has been courteous and seems fair. I will be going back to replace the serpentine belt soon. read more

Finding a good/trustworthy mechanic is very hard. The team here is amazing. They are always willing to go the extra mile. They have picked me up or dropped me off at work when my car is getting worked on. They have inspected many cars that I was interested in buying at no charge. I was very impressed by the service I received from Honest-1 Auto Care. The owner greeted me when I walked through the door. He listened to my sob story and promised to get the car looked at and hopefully fixed as soon as possible. I would have been an easy target to rip off because my car basically stopped working and I needed to pick up my children within a few hours and needed solutions fast! Their prices were fair. The mechanic came in an talked to me and explained what *needed* to be done to get the car up and running and what *could* be done to make the car run even better. There was no pressure to have more work done that was absolutely necessary. When I gave the mechanic my timeline of when I needed it fixed he got started right away and I was out of there in plenty of time to collect my kids. Overall the service was friendly, efficient, and as cost effective as car repairs can be. Also the waiting room was clean and pleasant. I would recommend Honest-1 to anyone. read more

I cannot say enough about Honest 1 Auto Care -- they are that : Honest. Today was my second visit there -- and the second time that they told me that I did not need the services I was requesting. Yes, I am a woman and know very little about car maintenance so having car mechanics that I can trust is extremely important. About 6 months ago my car battery on my BMW was dead ... it had been a while since my battery had been replaced, so when I came home from an extended trip and the battery was dead, I assumed that it was time to replace. I took my car in and 15 mins later I was driving off with instructions to drive it for 60 mins to make sure my "perfectly fine" battery was fully charged ($0). Today, I took my (older) Toyota in before a long road trip to get the wheels aligned because a friend suggested it might be needed. Off I went on my errands and a few hours later I received a call : the tires were well aligned -- they could tweak it slightly if I wanted it, but it seemed to them to be a waste of money. Picked up the car ($0) despite putting it on the rack, taking it on a test drive, etc. I am so glad that Honest-1 has my back so that I know that if I am worried about a maintenance issue, I can bring my car in without being oversold for services not needed. My 2011 xB had an intermittent A/C issue for two summers. I took it to my dealership twice before and to an independent mechanic once. Since the issue was off and on, no one could identify it or replicate it. I finally decided to give Honest1 a try since I could drop it off and walk home (great location by the mall). They isolated and identified the compressor as the issue. The price they quoted me was nice and average from what I found online, so that was a good start (I also asked about other potential repairs, like replacing the serpentine belt, and that quote was also competitive). However, I remembered the car still had extended warranty so I picked it up and brought it to the dealership, telling them what Honest1 said. At first the dealership claimed it was the power steering pump which runs off the same belt. Fortunately, I had a great service manager who looked back on my files and insisted the mechanics take a closer look at the compressor. What do you know??? It WAS the compressor. So, really, the dealership could have let this get past them a 3rd time. Honest1 took ONE visit to know what was wrong. Between that, the fact their prices are competitive and their great location, I will be going here once my warranty is up. read more
