Final quote with a description of everything - including the non completed block test
    Luke D.

I have never left a bad review in my life on any platform, and I always try to see the good in every situation, but I needed to share this experience I had at 25th Street Automotive. I read a lot of reviews before deciding on going to a mechanic. 25th Street Automotive seemed great from the reviews, and it still probably is, but it wasn't from my experience. I just want to share my experience: I decided to set an appointment with them to diagnose why my truck was still pulling 2 knock sensor codes after replacing the knock sensors myself. My radiator just so happened to blow up the day before the appointment, so I got it towed to 25th St Automotive. I talked with Tom and said that before we diagnose the knock sensors, I'm pretty sure I need a new radiator because it is leaking right under the radiator. He said that it would be $80 for them to pressure-check the cooling system to see if it was actually the radiator. I agreed to this to make sure it is in fact the radiator. After telling Tom that coolant will leak out of the radiator - the tech reads the codes stored on the truck, fills the truck up with coolant, takes it on a short test drive, and comes to the conclusion that they cannot do any more tests on the truck without replacing the radiator because it couldn't hold any coolant. Go figure. After telling me it would be $1240 to replace the radiator and perform the block tests, head gasket test, etc, I told him I will replace the radiator myself and will come to pick up the truck - happy to pay the $80 that we agreed to for the pressure test of the cooling system to determine if it was the radiator or not. He shows me a bill for $220 because the tech started doing the diagnostics for the knock sensor codes to make sure what I initially told them was accurate and it took an hour and a half.. After having to negotiate with Tom, he agreed to let me out at $165. I feel really let down by this shop because of all the amazing reviews I read about it. I thought after 10 minutes of going back and forth, they would live up to their reviews and all the awards they have on the walls of being such a great shop by making it right with the customer. But Tom was too adamant about having to pay the tech for the 1.5 hours of work he did. It felt too salesy rather than wanting to do right by the customer and having both of us leave on the same page. It would be a 5-star review if I was able to get out for the $80 that we agreed to for the pressure test. That way I would be paying for what was actually done. If the conclusion at that point was, "Yup, you need a new radiator" then great, that is honest work, thank you for the clarification - and then we can go from there. If y'all want to make this right, give me a call. But if not, this review will stay as my experience at 25th Street Automotive.

Other shops work on my brakes after you guy's work.

Fiat 500C, 2012? Need engine lights checked and prepare for emissions testing.

We are well-trained to perform the tests one step at a time to find the fault without overdoing things. Just call for an appointment 602-955-2637

Do you rebuild engines? Specifically, a late 90s Miata?

We find the guarantee, etc to be more beneficial to replace the engine rather than rebuilding in house.

Did you repair Kia Souls? Mine is a 2016 +?

We certainly do! Best advice: Don't wait for Yelp to relay your questions, just give one of us a call at 602-955-2637. Have a good day!

Do you provide services for a door latch/lock replacement on a 1997 f250? Thanks!

We provide all kinds of repairs - inside and outside of cars and light trucks

    Fo you repair Toyota Prius?

Yes, we have for many years now

    Do you repair Jaquar?

Yes. We provide most any kind of maintenance and repair on most any kind of car

Do you do pre-purchase inspections and does that need an appointment?

Yes, we have various pre purchase inspections tailored to your potential risk: what year, make, model, miles and who you are buying from. While an appointment is not required, we are a very busy shop so you may find setting up an appointment gets…

Do you work on volkswagens (2013 Passat)? I am having issues with either alternator or the connectors to them

Yes, we work on both import and domestic cars and light trucks

Can I bring in my car and an engine I purchased for you to install?

While we like to be accommodating, we've learned that this kind of thing is problematic, so I can't offer to help with that.

    Do they handle transmission rebuild/replacement?

Yes, we do replace transmissions. We also work with a local rebuilder. Either way, it will be a thorough, quality job with a strong warranty: saving you money in the long run.

Can they handle brake issues on foreign car like Infiniti and Jaguar?

We perform all kinds of repairs and maintenance on all types of cars. We tend to lean toward specializing in Asian and Domestic, so a Jaguar might best be serviced by a Jag specialist

Sheila was the first to respond, and when she sent over the quote, I almost couldn't believe it. AZ Auto Repair and Body had the best price by a long shot. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted by the owner, Mike, with a warm handshake. Even with a lot full of cars, he assured me they'd squeeze me in -- which was a huge relief. In no time at all, my oil change was done, and they genuinely thanked me for coming in. What really stood out to me was the integrity. Not once did they try to upsell me on anything I didn't need -- no pressure, no surprise add-ons, just straightforward and honest service. That alone sets them apart. This place is an absolute gem. Everyone was warm, professional, and kind -- something that's surprisingly hard to find in the automotive world. This is officially my new go-to shop. If you're in the area, I highly recommend giving them a try. You won't find friendlier people or better prices.

However, I am very disappointed with the level of expertise and outcome of the visit. My 2014 Jeep compass has had the check engine light on for a week, steering locked up last week, and has had delayed clicking start. Justin arrived, I gave him the full history of my vehicle (no problems for 10 years) and the issues occurring the last month or so which prompted the call. He started running tests, even drove the car around to see if he could replicate what I had been experiencing. About 30 minutes into the visit he said he couldn't replicate any of the issues; that's okay, as I mentioned it only happened about 50% of the time. But he sat in my car another 20-30 minutes or so, told me he had to call his boss because he was completely stumped. Not really what you want to hear, but even I started making suggestions of what it could be so he could at least do something for me. At the end of the visit he basically just said "sorry I have no idea what's wrong, maybe replace your battery?"... the only thing he found was a sensor on my engine needed replacement, but it's totally unrelated to the other issues. I ended up having to pay $150 for literally no better idea what's wrong with my car and not feeling any safer to drive it. It was a huge waste of my time and now I'm out $150, and I still had to take it to another shop that already figured out the problem not even 24 hours later. Save yourself some money and go to a real auto shop. I understand that some technicians may be learning or lack the knowledge to dive deeper, but someone should be going with them to assist so your customers aren't left feeling robbed and confused.

I paid about $3,800 total (including $2,000 in cash) when I picked it up on 3/6 and was told everything was fixed and running well. Only four days later on 3/10, the vehicle stalled again while I was out with my daughter. I brought it back and was told it was probably something small. After a few more days, I called for an update and was told it actually needed a transmission and would cost another $6,800. I was really upset and confused about how such a major issue wasn't found the first time, especially after they had my vehicle for nearly a month and I had already paid thousands in repairs. I later showed the invoice and estimate to a dealership and they were also confused about the work that had been done. Because of this situation, I ended up having to trade the vehicle in. After spending that much money, I expected a reliable repair and better communication. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I should have not chose a place that accepted Groupon ‍

I understand that automotive work can sometimes take longer than expected, but after an hour and a half I had to ask for an update because no one had communicated the delay. I noticed on the front desk computer that I was entered into the system as a drop-off, even though I was waiting for my vehicle. I always wait during appointments, and if that impacts how service is prioritized, it should have been confirmed when scheduling. I also noticed there appeared to be either a misunderstanding or scheduling issue with another customer who had an appointment after mine, which raised concerns about how appointments were being managed. When I asked for an update on the timing, the response I received felt dismissive. The employee responded that "nothing is ever a half an hour, not here, not any shop." I understand that estimates can change and that inspections may take longer than expected, but my concern was not that it took longer--it was that I was given an estimate, waited significantly beyond that timeframe, and had to ask for an update myself. The employee told me he would check on the timing and get back to me, but I did not receive an update afterward. Instead, he returned to the office and continued working with vehicles. Another employee also said he would check on the status and where the first employee was at, but I did not receive an update from him either. A simple update or revised timeframe would have gone a long way. The inspection, which was quoted at approximately 30 minutes over the phone, ultimately took about two hours and cost around $100. The findings included recommended back strut replacement, brake fluid service, and a battery replacement, with an estimated total of around $1,760. They also identified a bent rim, but I did not appear to receive a quote for that item despite requesting one. I have no doubt that their technicians have the knowledge and skills to diagnose and repair vehicles, and that expertise has value. However, expertise does not replace the need for clear communication and respect for a customer's time. I was hoping for a shop that values the customer's time as much as their own. Given this experience, along with pricing that appears to be higher than other shops I have compared in the area, I am uncertain whether I will return for future service. I hope the shop improves its scheduling process and communication with customers when delays occur. ******* Edit in response to their Google review commentary: It's worthwhile to note the company response below essentially argues pricing (which was never contested as explained in my above review). The pricing was provided for other individual's knowledge of business pricing and a stated reason for hesitation in repeated business. There was no argument to the state of the car either-- it's at a shop as it needs repair. I went to one other business, not multiple as was stated in person and over the phone-- indicating a lack of clarity again with notation on client accounts more publicly-- and and was quoted half an hour of my time with no updated timeline despite two requests to one staff member as well as the owner, Jesse, who just walked away. The Argumentative and dismissive responses on the stated concerns in the severe lack of timing and communication are what have just ensured I do not return to this establishment and suggest others take a closer look at what shop they choose for the work on their vehicles.
