Food: Honest Mary's is one of my favorite spots in Austin. Austin notoriously has a problem with vegetarian options, especially in Austin. Honest Mary's bowls are delicious, and you can tell that each ingredient is made fresh. I do wish they'd make more than 1 vegetarian protein option, as they frequently run out of tofu. However, when they have all the ingredients in the bowl, it's delish. Service: Friendly for counter service. Nothing super special here, staff doesn't really talk too much, especially for me eating here about 2-3 times a week. However, no worries as they're efficient. Value: I think for 10-12 bucks, Honest Mary's is great. I will warn that coming after 8PM, sometimes your bowl may be lacking as they tend to run out of a *LOT* of ingredients, but as long as you make it a bit earlier, it's great. Overview: Great spot for lunch, leaving you feel not super heavy, but also full! I love the new Honest Mary's location on Burnet, except for the narrow small parking lot. The Burnet location is more spacious and even has an inviting outdoor patio. Everything else is the same. Except I noticed they now have coffee on tap! I still think that the best sentence to explain Honesty Mary's is, "If Flower Child and Mad Greens had a child, it would be Honest Mary's." Pick a base and protein, sides, toppings, and finish it off with a sauce. The price of the bowl includes one base, two sides, two toppings, and one sauce. It comes out being cheaper than Flower Child and equivalent to Mad Greens. Yet, you are still receiving ingredients that are grown local (organic when possible), and hand prepared in their kitchen from scratch daily. Barely used any dressing because the roasted veg and tofu was full of flavor. However the arugula on the bottom was pretty wilted so not all that great. It was super tasty though and I devoured it. Customer service: 1/5 I'm being generous, just because I don't have anything to go off of other than my one time experience but here's the story. I called to ask about the ingredients in the peanut dressing since I'm allergic to cashews. Someone picked up the phone, told me to hold on, mumbled something that I couldn't understand and then hung up on me. Didn't bother to call back or anything. Very disappointing. This is a side note but also I'm glad that they use compostable bowls, but the top does not fit right! The first time I ordered a Dear Quinoa bowl with tofu (which I loved), the second time I got the Butternut Fall Bowl (which I didn't care for much). Today, I did a build your own bowl with quinoa, tofu, black beans, sweet potatoes, asian slaw, avocado and spicy peanut sauce. It was amazing. This is definitely my go-to bowl. Man some of the reviews are surprisingly harsh. We ate here last night and loved it! I built my own bowl with chicken on spinach. The chicken is moist and grilled perfectly. My husband had the steak one with chimichurri and it was very tasty and filling. The ingredients are high quality, the sauces are delicious, the almond cookie is not overly sweet, and they have wine on tap for $4.50 a glass. It's not your average build-your-own bowl, its better. We came here for lunch yesterday and ordered the Dear Quinoa (with half spinach/half quinoa) with chicken and the Toro Verde. The former was definitely better and we loved the combination of textures and flavors. The latter was much less impressive because the steak was tough as hell (pretty gross actually). The almond butter cookie we split was just OK. Other thoughts/observation: 1) it's lame to charge customers another $1 (!) for extra dressing 2) Nice airy/open space, but tables were dirty when we went to sit down (someone did come to clean them about 10 minutes later) 3) Prices were too high for what you got (esp. for the Toro Verde). We left happy and are settling on 4 stars because we had a decent meal for a decent price with the coupon. HOWEVER, if we hadn't had the coupon, this would definitely be 3 stars. 1. Shoe leather is easier to cut and chew than your "steamed" kale, which ONLY comes in pieces larger than Shaquille O'Neal's hand. That size & state is useful as a choking gag -- insert in mouth, cover mouth with duct tape, tape hands/feet, and death by Honest Mary's kale strangulation is a sure thing. It is NOT useful as food, per #2. 2. Impossible to cut up said kale on a paper bowl. Brute arm/hand strength is required, in combo with an unyielding cutting surface. Paper bowls are not unyielding (surprise! porcelain is!), and Mr. O'Neal wasn't notified that his strength was needed. 3. Sneeze guards aren't high enough. Thanks so much to the employee or customer who shared the flu last week! 4. It's BURN-it, DURN-it, as everyone who's been here 5 seconds knows. (burr-NET screams "We know and care nothing about AusTex.") 5. If the Burnet location would've answered the phone today, you wouldn't be seeing this here. 6. I found the standard bowl to be filling for me and you can do half/half for bases. I like being able to mix a little white rice with spinach. Then they have protein choices, a variety of additional veggies: grilled mushrooms, sweet potatoes, pickled onions, etc. I think the price was reasonable too for the elevated ingredients, but expect $12-$14 for a bowl. read more

The decor is very similar to the one up north but really like the aesthetics to this new location. I always do a build your own bowl and get a mix of different veggies. I wish you could do a half/half of two different proteins but I'm pretty sure you can't due to different price points. Had a great pick-up experience at Honest Mary's yesterday. I was a little worried, since they don't do curbside, but I had my mask and was prepared to go inside. Turns out they set everything up in the doorway, so you don't even have to touch a door handle. There is a cashier and shelves set up at the door; all prepared orders are placed on the shelves with names clearly written on the bag. You simply walk up and take your bag, similar to a take-out window. There was a sign saying the patio is open, but when I went (around 5:30pm), no one was seated. I had the poke bowl; everything was fresh a and tasty, but my only complaint is that there could have been more fish included. Overall a positive experience. read more

I got the byo market bowl (with an extra side) and my husband got a byo steak bowl. Both were filling and I was worried he wouldn't like his, bc he's not a fan of this style of restaurants, but he loved it!
