Salsa Limón is located on Guadalupe near the University of Texas at Austin campus. According to Alex, the restaurant manager, they have been operating there for 4 years. Salsa Limón is whole vibe...pleasantly reminding me of growing up in San Antonio, TX. You immediately notice these colorful country flags and hear Latin music in the background...everything from Shakira to cumbias. The restaurant is family-owned and inspired by the street taco culture of Oaxaca. Alex was super helpful in navigating me through the menu. Initially, I was going to get two tacos, however, he let me know the combo came with two tacos, rice and beans (better deal). Therefore, I went with the combo. I purchased the chicken taco and guiso (ground beef, potatoes and cabbage). While I prefer charro beans, the combo came with refried beans. Normally, I do not eat refried beans because they are made with lard and normally taste very greasy. That was not the case with these refried beans as they were fresh and not oily at all. Ironically, I sat at the chef's table with another first-timer couple who ordered quesadillas and they were pleased with their meal also. When the food arrived, it was hot...all items. I liked the layered textures and flavor of these street tacos. They came with fork cutting tender meat, fresh toppings, and flavorful tortillas. Salsa Limón has three types of salsas - mild for folks like me to super spicey for spice lovers. In addition, Salsa Limón has both indoor and outdoor seating along with free parking. Great tacos, etc! Salsa Limon was my first taco stop while visiting my family in Austin and it was delicious. We had tacos, quesadillas, chips/guac and all were really tasty. I live so close to here and wanted to check it out for so long but I'm glad I waited. When I got inside there was no one at the counter. I waited around 15 minutes or so before I met eyes with someone who was coming in and out of the back. I walk around the front bar and tried to get their attention to ask if someone can help me out but they just ignored me. I gave it another 5 minutes before I was going to leave before turning around and seeing a pretty poorly designed and marked self service kiosk that I wouldn't have noticed if not for staring at it too long wondering what it was. I tried to order food off the kiosk and nothing matched what was advertised on their menu. It was finally when another associate walked to the front and I stopped to get her attention and asked if she could take my order. All this hassle just to get food and I was already pretty upset with the place, I wanted it to a good place since I always see people sitting in their front patio so I decided to wait until I tried the food. I got the bean and cheese breakfast burrito and the best part of it was that the tortilla was heated up just right but it wasn't very good. Not to say that it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't very good. I guess I had some pretty high expectation and was met with a burrito that tasted like it came from any other restaurant. All in all I'm glad It really wasn't a good experience here. Maybe it was the time of day that showed up. I'm definitely not giving up on the place, I'll be coming back to see what else is good on the menu but at least I'm prepared if the service is the same as I had previously. read more

They got the margarita texture fixed since our last visit so that was great! Strawberry margarita was sweet but enjoyable! Decent amount of alcohol. Stopped in for a quick bite on a Sunday. Very nice atmosphere, music, friendly workers and excellent pricing. I got an asada taco with cream and love their tomatillo sauce! We arrived on Sunday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. Ordered the mini burrito and the tacos special along with two house margaritas. Staff brought the wrong order and I went back to the counter. They agreed that the order was mixed up. I explained what our order was and after a brief conversation he said the order would be brought out. About 5 minutes later we got our order. Rice and beans were decent but the tacos were mediocre at best. Meanwhile 4 young men sat at the table next to us and two them got into a physical confrontation. One person was getting the worst of it. I went to inform the staff. There was no one at the counter. I slammed the counter and yelled to get their attention. They came out and tended to the hurt patron. The police showed up within 5 minutes and were speaking to the group of young men. We left immediately. Other patrons informed my companion that she had blood on her blouse. We had finished the food and I had just gotten another margarita. We did not finish our drinks. Very tasty tacos! I was in the neighborhood for a comedy show at Spiderhouse and wanted to grab a bite beforehand and ended up here. They have a small parking lot and street parking can be hit or miss depending on when you're trying to eat. This is a standard situation for any place close to campus though. I really enjoy Salsa Limón! The employees are wonderful and always down to give recommendations. They have super generous portions (huge tacos) and the pricing isn't bad (only $4-5 per taco). Which means you can eat a really filling meal for $10 which is hard to beat in Austin. Their margs are also unexpectedly strong which could be a really good or bad thing depending on what you're going for, but it's definitely economical. I'm obsessed with their salsa selection - the habanero salsa is my favorite! My main complaint (hence the 4/5 review) is that I occasionally run into issues with my taco being soaked in oil. 75% of the time, the taco is perfect, but the other 25% of the time it's really oily and my tortilla gets soft. I've noticed this more with the asada or pastor tacos. However, I will keep coming back and risk the occasional oily taco because they are delicious. read more

Y'all I freakin love it here, and it's seemingly some of the only late night dining left in Austin! PLUS karaoke Weds-Fri??!!! You might have to dodge some hoardes of college kids, but the tacos (and queso) are worth feeling like the absolute oldest person in the world. Everything is fresh and authentic and affordably priced! I highly recommend the favorito, it's basically a reasonable portion of the famous Don Juan. I also love the pastor and the chips and queso. This place is so hip and delicious. I stopped by here earlier this summer for a quick bite during a thrift spree on Guad with a friend. You order at the front and they call out your number. I had the tortilla soup and one barbacoa and one chicken taco! Did not disappoint!!! All were pretty delectable and juicy. The tortilla soup came with a generous helping of avocado, which is so great with the spicy soup. The crispy tortilla chips were the perfect addition. When arriving you can tell that parking is tight but we were there before 12 so we found parking. The staff is personable and informative on how they operate, you can either order at the front or at the table on the QR code. I did like that the QR code had a "group" order option. The menu is pretty simple, with different types of tacos, bowls, quesadillas and burritos. I ordered the Vegetarian bowl that came with, Spanish rice, black beans, cilantro, cheese, cabbage and avocado. I loved it! The al pastor was cooked perfectly - not dried out like you get at a lot of places. The hot sauce selection was good - the habanero salsa was very hot but had good flavor.
