Easily one of my top three favorite farm-to-table restaurants in Austin. I always try to grab a seat at the bar or chef's counter because that's where the energy feels the best and you get a closer look at the care that goes into each dish. The menu is on the smaller side, but that only makes it feel more intentional. Every dish is thoughtfully executed, beautifully presented, and cooked with so much precision. I always order the espresso martini because it truly hits differently here, along with the chicken heart skewer, which is incredibly rich, tender, and full of flavor. From there, we usually add another appetizer and a protein entrée, whether it's steak or fish, and I honestly haven't had a bad dish yet. Everything is consistently cooked perfectly and feels unique enough to make the meal memorable every time. Avoid at all costs. We showed up on a girls trip excited to dine here. We were completely mistreated by the staff (except the one very sweet girl at the front desk). Sister restaurant to Barley Swine and Sour Duck, Odd Duck certainly is certainly not to be outdone by her siblings. A mix of fine dining and casual dining, Odd Duck boasts the delicacies of upper echelon cuisine while without its gaudiness. We had the grilled wagyu, pork belly chalupa, fried quail, cast iron cornbread, the ceviche, and the fettucine. Odd Duck delivered spectacularly and there were no misses that night. Standout dishes for me were the cornbread and the quail, definitely must-orders. Quail may seem unorthodox, but the sauce at the bottom fleshes out the taste in such a way that I found myself spooning the sauce after the quail was demolished. We came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday, and it ended up being one of the most memorable meals of the trip. What I loved most is how creative everything is. It's not your typical menu, but somehow every combination just works. I ordered the kimchi alfredo fettuccine with shrimp and pork sausage, and I won't lie, I didn't know what to expect. But it was so good. Rich, flavorful, slightly unexpected in the best way. As a table, we shared a few appetizers, and the standout for me was the cast iron cheddar cornbread with grilled onion butter. When I say I could've eaten three of those by myself, I mean it. It was warm, perfectly textured, and that butter melting into it... unreal. Of course we had to do dessert, and I tried both the strawberry profiterole and the oatmeal icebox cake. Great dinner spot. Came here for dinner on a Monday night with my partner. We had a reservation so we got seated right away. The place was pretty busy even on a Monday evening so I'd recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Started off the evening with their housemade Ginger Ale. The ginger flavor is quite strong so I waited for some of the ice to melt and even ended up adding some water to it. For dinner we shared the Redfish Ceviche, Beer Battered Romanesco Broccoli, Cast Iron Cheddar Cornbread, Pork Belly Chalupa, and Braised Goat Pizza. 10+ years in business. Do they still have it? Ten years ago today, 2/9, took my now wife on a date to Odd Duck. Was worried that, like with all restaurants, quality and service declines. We arrived and they greeted us and congratulated us on our anniversary and thanked us for returning. We sat at the bar and the server was such a cool, dude, who also congratulated us on our anniversary. To start, the restaurant gave us some bubbly which was great. We then ordered the Texas Pickles, the cast iron corn bread, pork belly chalupa and grilled wagyu eith tater tots. Everything came out as it was being cooked, all perfectly timed. The texas pickles were a variety of veggies, all pickled and all absolutely exquisite. Next up was the cast iron cornbread and Jesus F Christ, it was amazing! We demolished it. The pork belly chalupa was next and boy was it a treat. Loaded with pork belly, veggies and salsa, it was one to remember. Our final entree was the wagyu steak and tot. I don't even know what to say. It was just phenomenal and just melted in yiur mouth. The house made tots were unlike anything I've seen but so perfectly and deliciously crafted. Perfectly square crunchies with soft, pillowy inside. Whenwe thought we were done, to celebrate our anniversary, they brings us a strawberry ice cream dessert with olive oil croutons that was so good, it left me speechless. It was just magical and everyone should try it. All our servers were just such a joy to speak to them. All had great attitudes and eager to help. The staff made this evening even better. We made reservations through Resy pretty seamlessly for a date night. Not sure if the parking was valet only, it seemed like they had so many cones around a fairly empty parking lot. We were able to find street parking easily As we walked in, we were greeted friendly and seated very fast. We ordered the Paloma, cornbread, goat pizza, and antelope. The Paloma was delicious. I loved the salt foam. It was a great deal on happy hour(: The cornbread was divine- especially the onion butter! Came here for a dinner date and the vibe was nice and rustic. However, the food wasn't very impressive and I left a bit unsatisfied. Ordering off their vegetarian menu, I tried the tomato ceviche and the flatbread. The coconut lemongrass broth in the ceviche reminded me of a thai curry due to the coconut milk (personally not a huge fan of thai curry), and the lemongrass flavor wasn't noticeable at all. But, it did pair well with the tomatoes and onions and I appreciated how bright the flavors became. 3/5 stars. The flatbread was really nice and soft and the broccoli was roasted to perfection with a nice char. Okay I see why this place is highly praised and raved about. The service is A1 and top notch! I actually loved that the food came out one at a time because I got to appreciate each dish individually with my family. The servers were all amazing and every time they brought out a dish, they gave a quick synopsis of each dish with ingredients. It gave me an idea of what I was biting into and expecting . You can tell everything was well thought out, freshly made with love. I love the farm to table aspect and appreciate that they list the farms they get their items from. Most places put farm to table but never say where they actually get it. Our server, Clint was truly the best. He made sure we were always getting everything we needed and enjoying everything we got. We first order the cornbread and chicken hearts for appetizers. The chicken hearts had good flavor and not gamey at all. Kind of reminded me of a mushroom texture. The cornbread was good but not as good as good ol southern cornbread. It was not sweet at all and had a spicy flavor due to the jalapeños. That was definitely different from the normal Southern sweet cornbread we were use to. It was more a of a savory cornbread and not sweet at all. We ordered the fried quail and it surprisingly was my favorite dish of all! The flavoring of the quail was well seasoned and reminded me of the texture between fried chicken and duck except smaller of course. It was on top of a curry corn which was very delicious (chefs kiss) and had pickled onion on top. We also ordered the burger and it was pretty good Top 3 best burgers I've ever had for sure. Of course we ordered the legendary cornbread, and it absolutely lived up to the hype: unbelievably moist, packed with flavor, and perfectly complimented by the green onion butter. The ceviche was bright and refreshing, with a hint of lemongrass that elevated every bite, and the broccoli was perfectly cooked with incredible texture and depth of flavor. Lots of pickle jars everywhere which I love The service was great from the valet to the host to the servers. The food was a little touch and go. The reddish ceviche while clearly fresh, created a very bland flavoring with the ingredients. The pork belly chalupa is a home run dish packed with insane amounts of flavor and a great shared plate for two. The goat pizza cooked to perfection to have just enough crunch and goat cheese to make you think you're biting into a pizza flavored piece of heaven. The home run ball being the burger with the friend beer cheese being sneakily light and the pickled cabbage giving it something I've never called a burger "refreshing" feel to it. They publish yearly the Odd Duck Almanac which features recipes and stories from chefs and oddly enough the odd duck community. The friendly host led me to a seat at the bar. Once situated, I ordered a few different menu items: the pickles were excellent, as was the hummus. I loved the thai salad and I got the cast iron cornbread because my neighbor's (who was Dean Norris aka Hank the DEA agent on Breaking Bad) looked so good. Been to Odd Duck years ago. Waitstaff wear whatever they want, extremely casual. Vibe is eclectic. One of the OG small shared plate places. beet salad was great. Lots of flavors and textures. Cornbread was perfect, great soft texture and the scallion butter was chefs kiss Chicken hearts flavor was great but the texture was very offputting. They were basically raw inside and that texture was too soft and slightly chewy and not like any other chicken heart Ive had. We asked the waiter and he said the chef is going for mushroom texture. Frankly, mushrooms are firmer than this dish. Fried broccoli was nice but one curry tasting spice kind of overwhelmed. The pork belly tostada was outstanding flavor, crunch, perfect. Most pizza was very good. Redfish was great and the gremolata sublime Fried quail was very easy to eat and nice flavors the burger at $39 with no side is pricey but shared with 4 and great flavors The pork loin was great as well but the whiteness of the chicharron seemed off The strawberry sundae, apple sorbet and apple crisp excellent ways to end the meal. One gripe besides the mostly raw chicken hearts was the tipping option for the bill. The tip % option ranges from 20% to 35%. Surprisingly the tip is calculated AFTER tax AND the 1 complimentary dessert was deducted from the bill AFTER the tip so even tho we didnt ask for a free dessert, the tip included the cost for tip purposes. Came here as a recommendation from an ex-bartender and I'm extremely thankful for that sentiment. The Odd Duck is a fantastic casual dining establishment that has unique dishes of different sizes and tastes. I only tried a few plates, but so far I don't think you could go wrong with anything. Try to go during happy hour to maximize the value of each buck. The Watermelon Fresca was refreshing. It was shy under $10 (I don't remember exactly), and was plentiful. It was bubbly and salty, and lasted the whole meal. The Pork Belly Slider was a decent opener. It was juicy and the dill gave it a good tang. This is definitely skippable, but I did not regret buying and eating this. The Corn Bread is a monster of a shareable. The dish is blistering in flavour, but nothing is too over powering. The cast iron and leek butter is such a wonderous combination, making the plate taste extra fresh and rich. Definitely get this, but be prepared to take it to go. Save your stomach for more food! The Stuffed Quail is probably one of the best things I've ever had. My only criticism is the size, but quails are inherently small and I really really wanted more of this awesome main. Everything about this dish worked perfectly; the meat was moist, the stuffing was packed with spices, the sauce was tangy, and the vegetables gave a nice texture for each bite. Simply spectacular. The quail was so good, it opened my appetite. So I got the Tataki Tostada. This was definitely a unique dish that had a likewise matching, odd bite profile. The tortilla texture contrasted with the fish, and the seaweed saltiness contrasted with the sour sauce. You then also have other various elements that elevate both texture and flavor, but I feel like a bit too much was happening here. It did enjoy eatting it at the end, but I can imagine people skipping this. For dessert, I got the Apple Sorbet Sundae. In my opinion, this dessert was quite weak. I really couldn't taste the horchata, so the crunchy corn flakes were slightly lacking. I also think the apple element could've been a bit more potent and sweeter, but I overall liked the vision and design of the dessert. We made a reservation for Odd Duck via Resy, which was super convenient. However, trying to contact the restaurant directly was frustrating. They don't answer their phone, and the automated message tells you to text the reservation number but no one responded. Not sure why offer those options if they're not actually monitored. The service throughout the afternoon was excellent - very attentive, clean plates between dishes, constant check-ins, and quick table clearing. Definitely top-notch hospitality. The stuffed quail was very good, even though I couldn't taste much of the stuffing inside, the sweet glaze on top really stood out. It added a nice balance and complemented the crispness of the quail. The chicken hearts had excellent flavor initially, but they were almost too rich after a couple of bites. The same goes for the pork belly dish, it was very saucy and a bit overwhelming on its own. I feel like it would've benefited from some starch on the side to balance everything out. We sat outside on the patio and it was a perfect night for it. Let me start by saying GET THE CORNBREAD. It's a must have a starter! The cornbread itself was delicious and the sweet onion butter on top was fantastic. The pork sliders were good. For my entree... the fettuccine shrimp corn alfredo was out of this world. The flavors of the pasta came together perfectly. This might have been some of the best alfredo I've had. The sauce had a unique flavor that I can't really explain. Maybe slightly lemony or acidic or something... I should have asked but it was different than other fettuccine alfredo dishes I've tried! My fiancé and I celebrated our anniversary at Odd Duck and had a wonderful meal! Neither of us had ever been here before, but love other restaurants owned by the same people (ex. Sour Duck on the east side). We came during happy hour, so we got a bottle of wine to share (25% off bottles $100 or less). Then, we ordered the cornbread, Thai apple salad, redfish crudo, stuffed quail, and the braised goat pizza. We finished the meal with 2 desserts, the Frangipane Tart and the Oatmeal Icebox Cake. First of all, everything was delicious. With that being said, these are small portions, with prices on the higher end. Nevertheless, each plate is fantastic! We started with the crudo. Would have been nice to have a few more pieces of fish, but the watermelon, cucumber, and slices of chile were divine. Each bite was so flavorful! We held onto the plate to soak up the rest of the sauce with our cornbread, which arrived later in the meal. Next, we ate the Thai apple salad. This also had some spice to it (but probably a 2/10) but have very unique flavors with the peanut, basil, chicharrones, and crispy pork belly. After that, braised goat pizza and the cornbread. The pizza was smaller than we anticipated. However, we had plenty of food in the end, so this did not end up being a problem. It was really interesting to have the mole on there! We had never had a pizza with mole, but it was surprisingly tasty! The cornbread was also delicious, with flaky salt and sweet onion butter on top. My only qualm was I wish it had come out sooner so that we could enjoy it alongside other dishes. We ate it by itself, so it was a little odd. The last dish we got was the stuffed quail. This was good, but the stuffing wasn't my absolute favorite. It was tasty, but I expected something different. It also falls out as soon as you cut the quail, so you kind of have to make some maneuvers in order to have a solid bite. We finished off the meal with the Frangipane Tart and the oatmeal icebox cake. Both were 10/10! The pastry doe on the tart was exquisite. While in Austin for a few days, I decided to check out The Odd Duck, proudly holding a Bib Gourmand since 2024. Their menu is built around local farm ingredients, changing with the seasons and you can truly taste the freshness in every bite. The restaurant's vibe is welcoming, fun, and intimate all at once. My server, JP, was the man! His warm smile and passion for the menu made me want to order it all. I started with the Prick Poison cocktail , beautiful and perfectly balanced followed by the Cast Iron Cornbread, which is an absolute must. Most dishes are shareable, so bring friends and family. Next was the Pork Belly Slider. I'm usually not a slider fan, but this one was incredible; juicy, crispy, flavorful, and tender all in one bite. Another must-order! Celebrated birthday/valentines early tonight and from the host stand to the service and the food everything was fantastic. A happy birthday as we entered with the same printed on our menu. Our server Nataly was super helpful in guiding us through some favorites as we got some drinks to start which were all great then we ended up deciding on the cornbread,shrimp kimchi Alfredo and redfish with oatmeal cake to finish. I have never been a cornbread guy but after all the reviews and it's clearly popularity by how much I could see coming out of the kitchen we had to get it and it was the best bites of the night. Salty sweet savory cheddar for something so simple it was really a lot of depth of flavors. The Alfredo came next and the shrimp was fantastic and abundant with lots of big pieces. The pasta was cooked well and the sauce was great if you're not a kimchi person it's not super kimchi flavored you can just tell it's a tangy slightly spiced Alfredo but nothing funky or fermented tasting. I did get a lot of acid maybe a lemon juice or zest that paired well with the shrimp. As for the redfish it was cooked beautifully still super moist on the inside and the blackening seasoning wasn't overpowering with spice or salt so the fish reslly stood out. But the best part of the plate was the yogurt sauce so bright and creamy a perfect match for the blackened seasoning of the fish. We finished the night with oatmeal cake and ice cream which is necessary imo if you order the cake because it's rather sweet so it needs that balance. The highlight of the night was the staff at the end I am a server myself and will always appreciate going above and beyond for a guest but I brought a Polaroid camera to take a picture with and it wasn't working correctly when Nataly was trying to take a photo for us. Within a couple minutes the host that had sat us brought their own Polaroid and took pictures for us to take home. It made my night! You can expect to taste some really good food here, but I don't think you can necessarily expect to get full without ordering an inordinate amount of dishes, since everything is so small, yet so expensive. We came on a Thursday evening around 6:30 (with a reservation) and as a party of 5 were able to all find free street parking around the corner of the restaurant. The servers were so friendly and always made sure our water cups were full. We got the Thai peach salad - really bright with the dressing, which basically tasted like fish sauce, the mint, and the peach. However, I wish they had more peach, considering its called a peach salad. The crispy pork belly was so good though. It was fried but also so tender and juicy. Braised goat pizza - a bit on the spicier side, the molé sauce was really reminiscent of an Indian curry tbh. But the spiciness and sauciness of it combined really well with the creaminess of the goat cheese. I think I was most disappointed with the size of this dish though. The circumference itself is small, but then also the slices are so thin. Blackened redfish - one of my favorites of the night! The texture of the fish was so nice, the fish itself was really soft, but the blackened outside had a nice crisp leatheriness to it. I know leatheriness doesn't sound appetizing, but I don't know how to describe it in another way. And the sauce was so delicious. It was a creamed sweet potato sauce with squash and pecans, YUM. The stuffed quail - also pretty delicious, the flavor of the quail itself really comes through. And the stuffing is good, but not ideal to split amongst a bigger group. Cappelini - my other favorite of the night! The pasta wasn't too hard or soft, and it was so cheesy and creamy. If I came again, I would just order this dish for myself. Oatmeal icebox cake - creamy, cinnamony, and with a nice crunch, this dessert kind of hits everything you want. I think it could have done without the blackberry caramel, but it was still nice to have. The cinnamon flavor really comes through. Will definitely love this if you like snickerdoodles or cinnamon toast crunch. Tangerine tart - also really delicious! This is a good option if you're more of a fan of desserts that are both sweet and savory. The fruit and cream went really well with the herbaceous tart. Idk what the tart was, but it tasted very strongly of rosemary. read more

5/5 Date Night Spot! Odd Duck is a 5/5 date night spot. My boyfriend and I were honestly a little nervous to try it at first. The whole "farm-to-table" concept, especially the kind of places where the staff explain each dish when it hits the table; has disappointed us in the past. But this experience completely changed our minds. Every dish we tried was thoughtful, creative, and genuinely delicious. We started with the antelope tataki, which ended up being our least favorite dish of the night, and it was still really good. It was unique, flavorful, and surprisingly not gamey at all. The burger was absolutely insane. Perfectly cooked, and every layer of the burger felt intentionally designed and executed. Honestly, the picture speaks for itself. We also had the goat pizza, which was incredibly memorable because of how balanced yet bold the flavors were. Nothing overpowered anything else, it all worked together perfectly. Finally, the ceviche completely blew us away. The sauce was so good that we were literally scraping the plate to get every last bit. If you're hesitant about trying a farm-to-table restaurant like we were, this is the place that will change your mind. I was told all food and ingredients are all locally sourced around the city. Most of the plates are sharable so we just ordered 4-5 dishes to try since it was our first time. We came here for a birthday dinner and I was not disappointed. Everything is extremely fresh in this farm to table restaurant and while the waiter shared that everything is cooked with "love and intention" it's more than a line. Everything was deliberately paired. We opted to order several small plates and an entree to share everything. Starting with the snapper crudo, the grilled chicken hearts and the Thai peach salad, you could taste the fresh herbs and ingredients as each unique flavor danced across on the tongue. The cheddar cornbread was everything cornbread should be and the green onion butter was sublime. We hemmed and hawed on whether or not to try the honeydew melon with pepitas chèvre so the waiter surprised us with it on the house for my birthday and it was surprising. The melon wasn't overly sweet so it balanced with the other flavors. The real star has to be the aged wagyu burger that was so juicy and packed with flavor that I'm not embarrassed to say that I tucked my napkin like a bib to avoid spilling on my white blouse. We aim to order the most out of place dessert and celery sorbet definitely hit that mark... I don't know what I was expecting, but the celery flavor was very pronounced and not my favorite. Plenty of other options though so that was a choice. Our waiter JP was stellar and ensured we weren't without while also not hovering. The entire staff worked together, helping one another to clear plates or cash out tables or run food which is always nice to see. It's definitely a laid back vibe with upscale food. Came here for a bachelorette dinner and it was a great pick. The space is lively without being too loud, and the small plates setup made it easy to share and try a bit of everything. Standouts were the cornbread with whipped butter and the pork belly dish--super flavorful and well-executed. Some plates felt a little more experimental than delicious, but overall the quality and creativity were there. Cocktails were strong and well-balanced, and service was warm and patient with our group. A fun spot for a celebratory night with a foodie twist. Minus 1 star for forgetting our burger. read more

While visiting Austin, Odd Duck was the stand out recommendation from everyone as the place that we should try while we were there. Although pricey, we ordered several of the different plates to share family size and ended up with more than enough food. The Walt staff is also wonderful at suggesting how many plates to order based on party size and appetite. It seems pretty basic, but the corn bread was absolutely delicious and will definitely make me come back again! I've heard about this restaurant and was excited to give it a try. I went with a group and we had a reservation so it we had no wait. There is street parking and I read on their site, they have free valet parking. We were lucky to find street parking. We ordered 7 dishes (5 mains and 2 desserts) Thai Peach Salad - This was a great appetizer to start off with because it wasn't too heavy! I loved the crispy pork belly and peaches. The dressing was delicious as well. Braised Goat Pizza - Okay, this was smaller than I thought and the slices were kinda floppy due to weight of the toppings. I love goat cheese and it had a nice kick to it as well. Capellini Pasta - Probably one of my favorite dishes. I love pasta and having potatoes chips in the dish was a creative touch. Make sure to crush them immediately! We didn't and they were a little soggy, but that didn't detract from the dish. Love the bite in the noodles, they kinda reminded me of ramen noodles. Stuffed Quail - First time having quail and it was okay. I'm not a fan of stuffing, so I probably should try quail without stuffing. Again, it was a lot smaller than I thought. Blackened Red Fish - Yum! My second favorite dish. The sweet potato creamed was delicious! I didn't think I would like it, but I was pleasantly surprised. The seasoning was similar to curry with the coconut milk. Tangerine Tart - The filling of the tart wasn't my favorite, but the tangerines were delicious. Oatmeal Ice Box Cake - This was my favorite dessert. I initially thought the dusting was chocolate, but it's actually cinnamon. It tasted like an elevated cinnamon crunch if that cereal became a dessert. The blackberry caramel was a lovely touch as well. Overall, this place is pretty solid. It is pricey, but if you go with friends it's not too bad. The dishes are small, but I was pretty full by the end of it. It is loud though and kinda hard to have a conversation. Odd Duck, sister/cousin to Barley Swine, is all about farm to table. Ingredients are reused differently across multiple dishes, with everything fresh and giving a contrast of flavor and texture. Imagine having dinner inside a farmers market... and that's Odd Duck. Tonight's selections: Snapper crudo - so so fresh. From fish to veggies to mint, snapper and watermelon is a great combo. Chicken hearts - hearts are expertly grilled, mole is deep, masa gravy gives "texture as a flavor" in that your brain says "tamale" and your tongue says "gravy!" Peach salad - well composed, textural contrast matches flavor - crispy fried pork belly and chicharron, soft peach. Feels like a true summer dish. Honeydew - similar to the Thai peach salad, but a more "tightly composed" range of flavor and texture. Very balanced, nothing popping out but nothing needs to. Wagyu Burger - sounds heretical, tastes like food rapture. So many different flavors here from the beef, bacon jam, incredibly acidic pickles and the soft, sweet bun... all coated in melty fried beer cheese. Ate part as a true burger, ate part with a fork by section to get a taste for each individual component. Celery sorbet - definitely unique. At first, the peppery nature of the celery was overpowering. As the dish progressed, the sorbet melted into the corn flakes and horchata, and the celery faded into the background. I don't regret getting it, but probably wouldn't do it twice, especially given the other choices on the dessert menu. Great dinner, awesome range of options and everything 100% fresh. Service? On point as expected. Seating? Bar, table or patio - walk ins are likely easily accommodated but get reservations and make it easy. Definitely one of the must-eats in Austin! read more
