We were on a business trip and decided to have breakfast at Caroline. A nice restaurant with mood lighting and modern decor. They offer a full bar and also a coffee place with pastries and other baked goods. They seem to be connected to a hotel. The restrooms were up a few flights of stairs or you can use the elevator to the 2nd floor. I didn't know that. The upstairs portion could be rented out for special occasions or events. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She recommended a couple of her favorite smoothies. I ordered the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict: poached eggs, jalapeño cheddar corn cakes, avocado, tomato & corn salsa (4/5). I liked and enjoyed my breakfast, which was fresh and light. Berry Basil Smoothie: blueberry, strawberry, basil, banana, agave, pomegranate, coconut water, lime juice (4/5). This was very delicious. My coworkers order the Everything Sandwich: everything cream cheese, peppered bacon, baby kale, roasted roma tomatoes (4/5). Flavorful, with a light freshness of all the ingredients. My other coworker ordered a side of Breakfast Potatoes & a Detox Juice: acai, pomegranate, coconut water, lime. Both really liked the breakfast potatoes, which had a crisp exterior crunch yet soft and creamy inside. Come check them out. Support your local business.

They were so accommodating and quickly sat me and took my order. I tried a lobster pasta and wagyu burger. The lobster was so juicy and tender, really good and honestly, you could share this between 2-3 people. It was a big serving. The wagyu burger was good, a bit dry but with the toppings and the bread toasted inside, gave it a great burst of flavors in your mouth. The vibes are nice for a nice work dinner or date night. Busy establishment. Their food plated looked better than it tastes. Fish tacos had very little fish, it was mostly a portion for one taco. The winner was their Sleepless In Congress espresso martini. Definitely a pass on food, however the drinks were winners.
Back for another wonderful meal! From the friendliness of the host stand to our amazing waitress. So much fun! Drinks never empty. She was totally on top of us I had the lobster pasta and friend had the ahi tacos. They did not skimp on portions. The tacos were so full of tuna it has hard to keep it all inside the shell! So very tasty and extremely fresh ahi for sure. The lobster pasta went beyond my expectations! The pasta was definitely homemade and cooked to the perfect texture. The sauce was not over powering yet very tasty for sure. And the lobster meat. Not sprinkled in like other places. Absolutely not! There was a hefty amount of lobster for sure! They did not hold back. This would be good for a girls night out or a very nice dinner date place. The location in downtown is very central to everything you can think of and public parking is near by.

The kitchen and bar took a while, even with just a few tables occupied. When we called to reserve a table, they let me know they couldn't split checks and gratted parties over 6, which I expected but appreciated they communicated it. The website was hard to navigate for me and the Happy Hour available under Caroline isn't actually offered anywhere but upstairs. If you have accessibility issues, note that there aren't any restrooms on the first floor. Be prepared to walk a maze through the restaurant, through the coffee shop and either up 4 switchbacks of stairs to the 2nd floor or to ride the elevator on the hotel side to find one. Overall, if you're planning a trip here, I would check out Caroline Upstairs and hit up the upper deck patio for drinks and appetizers and skip downstairs restaurant. Unless you like lukewarm fries with no seasoning! Then, this is your place

But they did not have anything except black coffee in terms of coffee drinks... there was no decaf. No lattes. And not even just plain hot water. They said the coffee cafe makes all of the coffee and hot beverages for the restaurant and since the coffee counter was so busy, they could not service any restaurant diners. Super weird! Our food was average. Açaí bowl was fresh and good. The coffee situation was just so weird for breakfast/brunch. Never heard of a restaurant not being able to serve anything but plain black coffee and plain creamer. Also no almond milk, oat milk, etc. Strange!
Caroline was so sweet with excellent service, beautiful ambience, and really really good food. I think we snatched the last table available for dinner and we're glad we did. Really enjoyed my green goddess salad. My partner really loved the burger and the fries. There was an abundance of those. By the way check out my picture. I would definitely be back if I'm ever in Austin.
First time here and loved it! All of our food was delicious and it's the only place I've ever seen with 8 Years in the Desert sold by the glass! Crazy! We got the ahi tacos for the table and they were the perfect bite to get us started. I had the lobster pasta, which was delicious! We also got some yummy desserts including the peanut butter pie. One small, interesting note: I went to wash my hands before the meal and learned that the restroom is upstairs (or you can take the elevator) and down a hallway connected to the hotel above the restaurant. I didn't realize the layout at first, so getting there was a bit of an adventure -- not a big deal, just unexpected.

It has a typical hotel on the go grab a coffee and breakfast feel to the place. I was told I couldn't, which was fine -- but then it took 15 minutes before a server came by to offer a drink or even drop off water. During that time, multiple people were seated at the bar and served quickly, which made the wait even more frustrating. Once my order was taken, the food and drink came out promptly. I ordered a juice and the breakfast burrito. The juice was tasty, but definitely overpriced for what it was. The breakfast burrito, however, was extremely disappointing -- barely any egg, not much chicken sausage, and mostly just a giant wrap. I ended up eating the filling out because every bite was mostly tortilla. The side potatoes were cold, undercooked, and not crispy at all. With the number of good reviews, I expected much better from their brunch. Maybe dinner is stronger here, but based on this experience, I don't think I'd return.

The portions were a bit small, particularly the cauliflower grits, which were tasty but too little for the size of the short rib. The greens were served plain, taking up most of the plate without any sauce such a flavorful dish deserved a bit more thought in presentation. The mahi was full of flavor, but the dish felt like it needed a starch to balance the acidity. The burrata with pesto and tomatoes was delicious, but pairing it with store bread didn't feel right. The multigrain bread was tasty, but I'd prefer fresh, bakery-quality bread instead. Overall, great flavors and the experience, but the plating and portion choices could use a bit of refinement.

The Caroline was a delight from start to finish. My server, Rachel, made the whole evening -- attentive, warm, and just a joy to be around. The ambience is fantastic, and honestly, there's not a bad seat in the house. We started with the crab meat artichoke dip -- delicious, and it comes with fresh chips plus crispy celery and carrots on the side, a nice touch instead of the usual chips-only route. Jordan just got tagged for dinner service. He didn't skip a beat with great service. read more

Food was decent. I'd say the house potatoes was the star. The marshmallow latte was good but wasn't hot enough. This was after requesting it to be extra hot. Our server was just okay. He checked on us a couple of times. We couldn't get reservations but tried our luck walking in and were able to get a table. I don't think you're missing out if you haven't been here. read more

Went for brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the variety in brunch options. The Mexican coffee had a great flavor profile of sweet but not too sweet. The brunch burger was a good choice, filling and tasty. They brought out extra chipotle ranch, ketchup and hot sauce for the potatoes. Chicken and waffles was great- waffles were nicely done and the chicken was thick and crispy. Another one in our party got the ricotta pancakes and I think that is what I would order when I go again. read more

I stopped by Caroline in Austin for breakfast and ended up discovering my new favorite drink, the marshmallow latte. I wasn't expecting much more than a cute brunch drink, but wow... this was next-level cozy goodness in a cup. Perfectly smooth espresso, creamy, and just the right amount of toasted marshmallow sweetness without being overpowering. It honestly tasted like a warm hug. I also grabbed a breakfast sandwich while I was there. I don't eat bacon, and a lot of the menu items do include it, but the team was super friendly and didn't make it a big deal at all. They happily customized my order and made sure everything was just right. You can really feel the good Austin hospitality here, relaxed, kind, and welcoming. The vibe inside is bright and modern, perfect for easing into the day or hanging out with a laptop for a bit. If you're a latte lover or just want to try something unique, definitely go for the marshmallow latte. It's worth the trip alone. I'll absolutely be coming back! read more

Went to Caroline's in Downtown Austin for a team lunch. The place was filling up quickly for lunch but we were shown to our table as soon as we arrived. We had made prior reservations and were running late but they held our table for us. Since it was a workday, I wanted to try a non-alcoholic drink. They just had 1 option on the menu Ladybird Spritz. Though it looked fancy, the drink itself was ok. Was my entree, I had the glazed salmon in Miso. For the price, the dish was just ok. Wasn't a big fan of the food or drinks. Stopped in for a brunch snack & drink on a Saturday. There was a small wait even for 2 of us. It's cute inside. The burrata appetizer was really good! The only thing was the service was bad--our guy just didn't pay attention to us. Drinks sat at the bar until we asked about them, would not come back or make eye contact even so it was hard to get the check. He definitely took our experience down. read more

I'm visiting Austin just for a week coming from California, and I'm amazed by how well mannered and kind Texas has been to me. Except for this restaurant in downtown. I came with three other people including a baby on a Thursday night and we were seated in the corner for easy access to the stroller. However, we had nobody to help us. Our server left us to go attend the bar and we were left to stare at the menu. Mind you, there isn't a ton to read. Not once, but three times we had to get up from our table to order or get the check or ask about something. We had no service whatsoever, and had to speak to three different people every time we got up because we didn't have a server that was attending to us. He was able to attend the table next to us, but completely ignored us. I'm sad to say that our experience was not met, and our appetite was not fulfilled at all. The appetizer I can easily make at home, but I will say I did not mind their mushroom pasta. I will definetly not be coming back if I ever visit Austin again. Safe to say we left what felt like forever after finally receiving the check and headed to a different restaurant to munch on. This place was so well reviewed and we left pretty disappointed with over $100 spent. It's ridiculously loud and busy in there (it's located in a lobby of a hotel, they have a busy coffee shop right around the host stand and just a lot of moving parts. Explains why we were skipped and sat 3 tables that came in after us. No one ever apologized or anything. You couldn't even hear the hostess/hosts and whatever they were saying. The only thing we really loved were the pancakes. The rest was just...mediocre brunch food you could get for half the price. We checked out Caroline for breakfast on a weekday, and it was a cute place. The atmosphere was really relaxed and felt like you could hang out for a while. Mari was our server, and she was absolutely lovely! She gave us some suggestions and was very attentive. Our food was delicious and came out pretty quick too! Cute spot downtown! Theres a bar upstairs, but we are in the dining area on the main floor. We went for dinner and ordered drinks, two appetizers and two entrees. The deviled eggs were so yummy and unique, shishito peppers were solid (although I wish they were blistered just a tad more). I got the quinoa bowl and added chicken for my meal. It was filling and tasted like a homemade meal. There was something slightly sweet in the chili which I wasn't expecting but it ended up being tasty. My only mild complaint was that the dish comes served with lettuce and it got warm as I ate it. My husband got the chimichurri steak. He said that it was cooked well on the inside but there were several outer bites that were overly charred and hard to eat. The fries were a bust. You could snap them in half like a cracker, were super dry, but we were full enough from everything else, so it didn't end up being a huge deal. Took awhile for us to put in our drink and food order, maybe 10-15 minutes but once we ordered, everything came out timely. I'd consider coming here again read more

Visiting Austin (and Texas!) for the first time and stopped by Caroline downtown. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered an espresso martini. It initially came out a bit more room temperature than I prefer, and I noticed it appeared to be from a machine. The flavor was there, but it leaned a little too sweet for my taste. When I mentioned it to the bartender -- Jordan, as noted on my receipt -- he immediately took ownership. I told him I was thinking of switching my order, but instead he offered to remake it from scratch. The second one was spot on -- perfectly balanced and much better. What really stood out was his hospitality. He was extremely friendly, engaging, and conversational, which made the whole experience even better. Service like that makes a difference. Great first impression of Caroline and Austin. I'll definitely be back. Kudos to Jordan! read more

Giving 4 stars for the food but knocking one off for the layout. The chicken schnitzel was 10/10 and the cocktails were creative and well-made. However, the floor plan is a bit frustrating--having to head to a different floor for the restrooms isn't ideal, especially when the restaurant is busy. Austin, Tx. It was a busy night on Thursday and we had no reservation, having just arrived from the airport. They accept walk ins, I was very happy about that. The tables along the long bench seat are too close together, I didn't care much for that but I just was happy to be seated. I had the short rib which was wonderful. It was small but perfectly prepared. No knife needed. I cut it with my fork. Just delicious. I wasn't too sure about the cauliflower grits, but they were great. The roasted sweet corn was not on the cob but rather a mix of corn,spices, cotija, and possibly other good things presented as a bowl of dip with tortilla chips. Very good, a bit addicting. The Carolina salad with flat iron steak was superb and an economical way to order a small steak. The peanut butter pie was a first for me. Wow! So good. The layer of chocolate on top made it hard to eat without crushing the pie but I figured it out eventually. We returned Sunday for brunch. The ahi tacos at first infuriated me because they were so small they were insulting. Then I found out the taco shells were not microscopic tortillas but nicely crafted slices of Daikon radish holding the ahi mix. Very good. We got four of these two inch tacos, Steph thought the portion was reasonable. At the Thursday dinner night I observed how popular the Wagyu burger was. It looked to be an awesome burger, which I could see quite well because of how close our tables were. I was determined to return and try one so I ordered the burger at brunch. So disappointing. The burger was thin, maybe 3/8 inch thick. Punched out from a machine press, not hand shaped. The meat had little taste, totally meh. I asked for the additional bacon but did not get it. No lettuce. No tomato. No cheese. Big bun though, which imparted the greatest contribution to the taste: Boring. Thursday dinner: 5 stars. Sunday brunch: 3 stars. read more

We decided to try Caroline since it was at the Aloft and we didn't feel like going out anywhere since we were really tired. Ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and Flat Iron Steak and Chicken Schnitzel as entrées. The Burrata actually had a ton of cheese and came with bread to eat with. Personally had the Chicken Schnitzel. Solid piece of chicken, but nothing special to write home about. Also tried some of my girlfriend's Flat Iron Steak. I liked the chimichurri on top of it, but yeah nothing crazy. Staff were fine here, no complaints from me. read more

Really enjoyed the ambiance and vibe at Caroline! The appetizers were delicious (in particular the chopped salad and deviled eggs). The mains were pretty good as well - chicken enchiladas were the standout. The mushroom bolognese was good but a little heavy for me. And the chicken schnitzel was decent as well. Very good pick for breakfast downtown. Great restaurant atmosphere, very clean and nice. Service was exactly what you want go morning time. Not the largest menu but had some options for just about everyone. Went with the chicken and waffles because it's my go to most places. Amazing. The waffle was perfect, not too sweet. Yes but it is through the hotel, Aloft. Caroline will validate but if you stay longer than 2 hours there will be a charge.
Do we have to make reservations for weekend brunch?
You cannot make reservations for brunch but if you get there early enough... think 10:30am... you should be fine.
Is this a baby friendly restaurant?
Yes. It's a large room with high ceilings so there's note of ambient noise. Smooth floors and should have ample room between tables for a stroller.
