Please don't go to Honey B's when they first open. We ordered 5 lbs of crawfish today with corn and potatoes. We had a bag of broken off little crawfish heads and tails. We had a few big crawfish but majority small. The crawfish were brittle and hard. The corn was dried up and hard to eat. It seemed as though they put them in water to give them a little heat. These crawfish were awful and I would never patronize their establishment ever again. We only went here bc other places didn't open til 4 pm. In the past, they were better. When I tell you that this is the best crawfish, I am not lying! It's so flavorful, spicy and the crawfish are big. It's also a good price compared to what we pay in Texas. 5 pounds for $20?! My boyfriend and I spent some time vacationing in Lake Charles and wanted to have the full Louisiana crawfish experience. Some locals recommended Honey B's, so we stopped in for lunch on Fat Tuesday -- we were SO pleased with the tasty meal and the wonderful southern hospitality here! The owner and his staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and each item we had was absolutely delicious. We started by sharing a bowl of their Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, which was excellent. Next we shared two of their Boudin Balls -- these were delicately fried and had just the right amount of spice. Last but not least, we shared the small platter of Crawfish and Shrimp, which came plated with potatoes and corn (see photo)! The crawfish and shrimp were fabulous (to quote my boyfriend, it is in the top 10 best meals he's ever had). The owner and staff made sure to help show us the proper way to crack the crawfish. On top of the meal quality, the again were so hospitable and friendly; truly they went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time here. Received a recommendation from a bartender at GN. Took a party of 6 in after golf and this place was hoppin! Steady people coming in and going out. OK...so I haven't been here since my review of April 2010. I don't know what happened and must apologize if I've led anyone astray in the recent past. I had lunch at Honey-B-Ham's today and it seems that quality has fallen off. I ordered the Brisket Plate Lunch (which I ordered last time as well) and its not close to what I remember. The brisket is not as good, it had just a hint of smoke ring with no predominate smoke flavor. The meat was thick cut, which I'm not opposed to, but with more fat than it should have had and closely resembled pot roast. I ordered the "Cajun Rice". I thought there was a mistake, and I actually had to ask if what I had was in fact the Cajun rice. It consisted of rice, mayo, onion, and what looked like chopped eggs. There were also a couple mushrooms thrown in there as well. I ordered potato salad as my other side and I seriously thought I had mistakenly got two sides of potato salad. The resemblance was uncanny aside from the visible white rice in one. At least the ice tea was good...I sure hope they come around and fix the plate lunches. May try again someday. read more

That is, until one day I decided to stop by and give them a try, and I was pleasantly surprised! The crawfish comes out hot and fast. The service is attentive and friendly, with the manager working along with the rest of his staff to make sure everyone leaves satisfied. Off crawfish season, this place has some good sandwiches, BBQ plates, as well as cracklins and pieces of fudge that I have taken back to my family when I go home for a visit. I came to try the FRIED brisket after seeing an advertisement. First time in this place. It's a converted kfc bldg so I got kinda nostalgic for a sec thinking about my childhood in this place. Four strips of the feature... Right amount of spice, not fried too much, crinkle fries filling the basket, and country gravy on the side. I asked for bbq sauce as the gravy makes the dish start to feel like country fried steak and that's not what I was looking for lol...dipping the strip in the bbq sauce made all the difference to me. Their SWEET tea to wash it down made the meal complete. The reason I'm not giving 5 is because the menu is limited, ambience is not there, temperature was a Lil muggy at first, and there was a fly that found me very attractive at the end of my meal and is "bugging" me as I type lol If you specifically want bbq, fried brisket. Honey B Ham has long been a staple in Lake Charles for hot, fresh, well seasoned, well sized crawfish. My visit today has changed that for me. I arrived at approximately 5:30 on Saturday evening. I was well prepared for somewhat of a wait. The parking is horrible, but that's not anything I believe the owners can help with the limited space. I went to the drive through window. I waited almost 40mins. If I could have left, I would have. I assumed that if the owners know it's Saturday night in Louisiana, they are going to be busy. If you are selling CRAWFISH you should be prepared to get the orders out. When I got to the window, an older gentleman ( whom I assumed to be the owner) was sitting down with his chair cocked back, hands behind his head without a care in the world. Two other ladies where standing in the same area drinking a beer, and another gentleman was standing around as well.. as I watched the workers try to work in and around the same area with all the extra people, they were trying to ask the "man seated in the relaxed position" questions about an issues that needed tending to, not once did the man get out of his chair to actually see what the problem was. He appeared to be totally unaware nor did he care that there was a line of cars that were not moving AT HIS ESTABLISHMENT! And that there was an obvious reason why orders were not going out. Not once did he get out his chair and come to the window and say" thanks for waiting, they will be out shortly." Nothing. He just stayed seated giving orders from there. After finally getting my 5 pounds of crawfish home I was highly disappointed. They were cold, lacked and true depth of flavor (besides salt) and were obviously from the bottom of the cooler. My decision to no longer support this establishment is based solely on the actions of the man (assuming owner) sitting behind the counter and his lack of respect and support for the individuals both working at the roots of the establishment but also the lack of concern for the people who support it. 2 stars because I would have given them another chance at the crawfish, because every establishment has a bad batch every once and a while, and also the young lady serving the window was very polite. read more

I ordered some boiled shrimp and asked that they not be boiled to spicy because they were for my young child (if they could not that would be fine just say that and I would have ordered fried shrimp or chicken tenders). The waitress took them back like they were going to remake them less spicy but came back and said "we rinsed them off" Unfortunately, you can't rinse of seasoning that is cooked into something. Ate here on the advice that it was run by the Heinen Family and they use the same crawfish as them...and it had to be the best crawfish I've ever had in a restaurant...hands down. They came out too hot to touch and burned with pepper all the way down...just like I like them! They are picky about their crawfish and sometimes will run out.
