I'm guessing that this is one of those places where the regulars continue to visit just because they've done so for years. I ordered a half dozen to share with a friend and we were not impressed. The doughnuts were very dense and dry. The milk-to-doughnut ratio to choke them down was quite high! They were flavorful, though. I'll give them that. I can't imagine that I'd return here in my elusive search for great doughnuts in the Columbus area. Leave it to the regulars to enjoy their time together and go out and find a better doughnut. I don't understand what everyone's problem is with this place, I come here weekly for food and doughnuts and have never been disappointed by service or quality. If you don't want to wait, just call and order for pickup. Every time they tell me "we'll have that ready in 15 mins" and they're spot on. I would recommend this to anyone any time. read more

First time customer and big time fan. Got a dozen donuts with everyone different and each as tasty as the last. Didn't plan on eating donuts for a day but I couldn't decide what I wanted to try. Don't think I can eat another Krispy Creme as long as I am able to get another honey dip. Dont know the brand but the coffee was fresh and tasty. Easy in and easy out right onto Kenny road. With a staff bubbling with Midwestern friendliness, an easy-come-easy-go decor, garrulous blue-collar regulars, and a 1950 road sign, Honey Dip would seem to have come straight from the classic road joints of Route 66, The Dixie Highway, the Atlantic. But it's where it has always been ever since I can remember, in the fading clump of aging buildings, the working class enclave of Upper Arlington, on Kenny just near the start of Old Henderson Road. The staff here makes the place. The waitress are sweet and have that stereotypical no-nonsense thread in their personality that put me in mind of an old 1970 TV show " Alice". The other day a patron came in as I ate; he was cooking out at home it seemed, and asked for some lettuce that he had forgotten to get for a BLT. The staff gave him some. ( Could that happen at Bob Evan?) I love a place with a community feel; it reminds me of Colin's Coffee. The donuts here are good if not a bit overpriced. As implied, it is a full service diner, something they added a few years ago. The food is pedestrian though, which is alright considering the decent price. It doesn't have a wow factor, but it is eatable. My last trip I had pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were overcooked and under-mixed; I could taste a bit of the powder. Their coffee, though standard for such a joint, is a little too weak and left a slight bitter aftertaste. The bacon was crispy. I have braved their donut egg sandwich and it is decent, though the novelty is not really to my taste. I haven't had lunch here. They do close early, making them a bit of a bizarro Buckeye Donuts. My husband has an addiction to donuts. We've passed this place many a time, but just never had a reason to stop. We decided that we finally want to stop and see if this place was really something special. It's a cozy little place to grab breakfast, coffee, donut, and read away your morning in the local newspaper. Any donut is A-ok in my book and I was so excited to finally make it to Honey Dip since they close at 2pm. I figured if you can stay up and running make enough business by 2pm then it MUST be good right? Wrong...Cool old school feel, promising name, and big selection it was all there. Being very tired of my donut obsession my husband had a bowl of chili which should be good at this vintage diner/dive but no, not great and rather expensive. I got a dozen donuts (as always I have to overdo it knowing darn well I'm gong to be the only one eathing them) I also included a muffin and puff pastry just for good measure. Both were stale and I really hate to buy desserts wrapped in plastic wrap, makes me think of something mom would pack in my lunch box... I'm a fan! There was some confusion when we came in. It seemed to be a seat-yourself kind of place (no signs anywhere to indicate anything). The people waiting before us pounced on two seats that opened up at the counter; when a table opened up, we asked everyone standing around us if they were waiting, then sat down. An employee came to ask if we were (name I forget). I was like, ummm? but the people in line saved us. "She's sitting over there." Whew. After that bit of awkwardness, service was pretty good for it being so busy and the food was tasty. I was actually REALLY happy with my breakfast burrito for the following reasons: 1) they don't put extra bullshit in there. Breakfast burritos in the Midwest are not optimal *at all*; they always have salsa and sour cream and all this jazz that doesn't belong in a breakfast burrito, and because of this, they also cost like $8. A breakfast burrito is best when it's basic: tortilla, eggs, potatoes, cheese, optional meat, MAYBE beans if you make good beans. Hot sauce to taste. 2) And it should be cheap. Theirs was less than $5 and it had eggs, potatoes, cheese, sausage, and peppers. Win. I also liked my jelly doughnut; it was fresh. I do wish "jelly" wasn't red sugar goo, but that's all doughnut places, not just Honey Dip. I will try the black raspberry next time. My husband liked his corn beef hash. The coffee is aight. Whatever creamers they use come out looking a bit curdled, but I think that's just from the processing because it didn't taste sour or off and we didn't get sick. Overall, very solid breakfast. Ive heard of this place, ive passed by it many times, but today I finally stopped in. I had the french toast, a coffee, and an apple fritter. All three were delicious. They have the complete diner feel with the flat top grill, and stools at the bar to sit at. The waitresses were awesome, and I chatted with a regular who was sitting beside me. Ill be back! So Ive been back a few times, and they continue to do a great job. The staff are so friendly, Ive been exploring the menu, and Im still really satisfied with the food. This place is off the chain. Reviews comparing this place to dunkin donuts are absurd. The donuts are fresh and delicious, the breakfast here is great, and they even have a donut bacon cheeseburger for the hipster crowd. Reviews calling this "just a crappy diner" are way in the wrong. Go back to your gastropub brunch (but really, don't, because there are fewer and fewer authentic restaurants like this). My only complaint is that they aren't open later for my evening sweet tooth. My first time here and this place feels like home. It's a cozy diner-like restaurant with interesting menu items. The wait was a bit longer than I liked but I got here at a busy time (Saturday lunchtime) so I didn't really mind. I'm a donut addict so when I saw that they served the donut sandwich, I immediately knew what I wanted to order. First I'll say their omelettes and pancakes are a five. And now, why I'm giving it a 3. Initially my experiences made me want to switch from 5 to 2. But after reflecting on the fact that the food is delicious, I settled on 3. Though I'm still not entirely convinced. I'm very active on the brunch scene, and I used to be a regular here. On Easter, I tried to go here for brunch. The place closes at 2:30, so I got here 2:10 cuz I wanted to avoid the Easter crowd. Dead as a doornail and apparently they close their grills at 2. No one was there! When I walked in, the woman at the counter asked how she could help me, and I said I'd get a couple donuts and would like to get a meal. That's when she told me the grills closed at 2. Donuts only. Normally, I would've rolled with it, but the way this woman said it was very stern, as if she was reacting to a belligerent response that had yet to occur. Then she had the nerve, after seeing me clearly crestfallen, to cheerily wish me a happy easter. Heartless. As I walked out I spotted the owner sitting nearby looking grouchy, summing up receipts, purposefully tuning everything out, which on the one hand I can understand because he needs to close out. On the other hand, if you're going to sit out where customers are, you might want to smile every now and then. Grouchy and serious is a common look for him though. In any case, I was polite and left. Honestly, I was in shock because I had been really looking fwd to it. Their food is amazing, and that's why I used to be a regular. But knowing the Cbus brunch scene like I do, and having personal experience working at a breakfast sandwich shop, I can say that literally anywhere else would've served me. Moreover, the lack of warm fuzzies was hardly a first. Which brings me back to why I'm no longer a regular and am giving it 3 stars. In Columbus, you need more than good food to keep you going. If you are there when they're serving, the owner will happily chat with people he knows, and stone-faced ignore the unfamiliar faces. Like, not even a smile. It's weird and uncomfortable, and defintely not a one-off event. I absolutely love their omelettes and pancakes, but I don't like how the owner can make you feel like you're on the outside, a second class citizen. It makes me not want to go, despite the delicious food. Hence why I'm giving it a 3. Maybe I'm just not around on the owner's good days. But it's a better experience when he's not in. The wait staff certainly seem to be less stressed then. My suggestion, if you decide to go, go as a group rather than solo. Either that or place an order by phone and pick it up to enjoy at home. And for the business, do us a favor, if breakfast ends at 2 and the last half hr is donuts only, then just close the whole place at 2. People should clear out by 2:30. read more

Buttermilk donut is where this place is at. I ordered one buttermilk and a glazed. The glaze donut was nice and fluffy. It was perfect for dunking in coffee, too bad I was driving and eating. The buttermilk was great as I would come back here and order a dozen of these. The donuts were $.90 a piece. The lady at the counter was very friendly and told me the buttermilk are some of their best sellers. The donuts with icing or custard filled didn't really tempt me. They have some breakfast options and I would think this is a nice place to gossip. It reminded of a local donut shop, but I noticed numerous people like me stopping in to grab and go as well. I wouldn't mind meeting someone here for coffee, donut, breakfast, and a chat. It seems warm and friendly and what more do you want from a donut shop. Another old classic in the Columbus breakfast scene, Honey Dip has been doing donuts since well before I existed, and with recent renovations to add sit down breakfast and lunch service, I suspect they'll be around after I'm gone, too. The selections aren't anything crazy, but they do offer a couple of fairly unique breakfast treats - a buttermilk drop donut that manages to be savory, sweet, and a bit tangy at the same time, and flaky cinnamon twists made with wrapped and layered pastry dough. A dozen of mixed donuts will run you about $10, depending what you're interested in, and makes a nice surprise for your family or office in the morning. I haven't actually tried the new sit-down menu yet, but that'll happen sooner or later, I'm sure. read more

When we get into a weekend breakfast indecision spiral, this place is always on the short list of go-to's. Classic greasy spoon, weird vinyl chairs, hundreds of black framed photos on the walls of various celebrities enjoying donuts in a variety of configurations. The wait staff is politely brusque, which I normally would think of as a bad thing if they weren't also so damn reliable and efficient. For me, the breakfast food is the star here, good omelettes, great pancakes, and crispy potatoes. I have had the patty melt on a few occasions and it's also delicious, although I do wish they'd upgrade their fries. My favorite place in the city. My sweetie and I pretty much fell in love while having our breakfast at the counter. It's the best place to strike up unexpected conversations with strangers. I can't tell you the number of times that I have driven by here, and really never stopped. I'm glad that I did. The food here is limited, the menu small, but that's okay because, the items that they do have are done right. Service is quick, and friendly with a smile. My coffee cup was ready when I walked in the door. I had never been there before. Something about being brought a cup of coffee when I walk in the door is really enjoyable for me. The donuts here are good, and reasonable priced, with a wide range. I wish they were open later so I could swing by in the early morning around 5 and pick up some just as they were being made. The omelet that I had was tasty, and the bacon was crisp and well cooked. A decent selection of cheeses, toast and crispy well seasoned home frys rounded out the breakfast. I was pleased with the price point as well for 8.50 its hard to beat a cup of coffee, a Donut, toast, omelet and homefrys. I've heard, and it was well advertised that they have a breakfast sandwhich on a donut, this is my next challenge. Yoooo I am not a fan of basic eggs but there was something different about this diner's eggs. I ate every last bite of my meal. The eggs had a very fresh particular flavor. I ended up adding hot sauce on top and it made it even better!!! I also had the French toast which was delicious as well. Furthermore I had a twist donut. I know I'm a pig! But everything was good. The potatoes were thick cut chucks (and quite tasty), bacon was delicious, eggs were cooked to order, but my toast was a little burnt. Honey Dip Donuts & Diner has a large and tasty selection of donuts. While none are particularly unique or exceptional, all of them are tasty (I'm particularly taken by the blueberry cake donut). The coffee is good too, and not too pricey. One exceptional feature of Honey Dip is the service. It is always friendly and always accommodating. They take care of their customers when they can. And that is where they lose a star: they are quite busy and crowded on the weekends after 9AM and relaxing with a good book, donut, and cup of coffee can be difficult. They serve other items at breakfast and lunch, and while I've rarely partaken in breakfast there, it was simply okay at a fair price. Donut BLT: amazing! This may be the best bacon donut I've had in my donut quest across the United States. The ratio of sweet to savory is perfect, there's no skimping on the crispy bacon, and the honey dipped yeast donuts are a perfect amount of sweet (unlike some bacon donuts, where the sugary glaze overwhelms the savory counterpoints).
