I kicked my do(ugh)nut habit after hearing my bio professor refer to them as 'death cakes', but I would still recommend this under-rated donut place to anyone new to Columbus--or, more specifically, Upper Arlington. You can never go wrong with their glazed old-fashioned donuts nor their seasonal pumpkin donuts. Aside from donuts, you can also expect a decent selection of muffins and scones. I was craving a Boston cream donut and wanted to switch it up from the typical Tim Hortons. My son and I drove by honey dipped and I saw they had pretty good reviews so I figured I would pick up a few to go. Great donuts, service was okay... just very "straight to the point". They want to get people in and out as fast as possible, but maybe that's a good thing to keep the line short. The man in front of me ordered the last Boston cream (chocolate custard is what they call it) and my pregnant-self almost cried. When I asked, she said they can make more! Awesome! Most donut places are out when they're out. The one reason I give 4 stars is because the coffee is the worst I've ever had. You know when you get your oil changed and they have free coffee?... it was worse than that. Maybe I just got a bad batch. I have no idea what good donuts are suppose to taste like because sweets go straight to my ass. I typically go for the powdered donuts and they weren't too sweet and that's how I prefer them. What I do like about this place is the price. They're always open and so friendly. If your young (relatively) and tired of the modern tim hortons/chain decor, stop by here and help them out. read more

I rember this place and my late dad love it! I never took a liking of their donuts in the first place. Has a odd taste and the donut is more like a cake donut then others place in Columbus Ohio! To have 1 donuts you need 5 gallons of milk its so dry out and the honey does not help at all! Not sure why can't they have a wet donut same class as Krispy kream or others? read more

OMG! How have I lived in Upper Arlington and not know about this place?! Because I don't go in donut shops that's why! Not my thing except once a year on the 4th of July I will eat at least 3 glazed donuts...But we do just about anything for our kids and they had their minds set on having donuts so we went in..I had no idea they served breakfast and lunch so I ordered a spinach, mushroom and cheddar omelet and it was amazing! But what really got me hooked was their breakfast potatoes! I'm surprised it took me so long to get to Honey Dip. Though I do get the impression that it's something of a hidden gem. I had a pretty standard breakfast meal that was quite tasty. But beyond that, I had really great service, and the food was very affordable. I got a donut to go, and I managed to refrain from ordering one of the donut breakfast sandwiches...this time...However, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to make one of those get in my stomach at some point in the future. read more

They have one of the better breakfast around town, the owner does the cooking & he knows how to make an omelet, it's not cooked to death yet it's cooked inside. There is a ton of bacon in the omelet, & the home fries are crispy & come out hot. Their donuts are good also. read more

Had a great breakfast here and what I like about the place ---- it's not fancy, just a donut shop expanded into a diner (they don't know what that means in Ohio - but this is good). Today was the first day visiting HoneyDip based on a good recommendation and it was not a great experience. For a hometown diner that's family owned and operated we would have expected a friendly welcome but we didn't get a hello, hi, have you been here, nothing. We came for the donuts and we're pretty bummed that the selection was down to nothing but that's our fault for coming late in the afternoon. When our food came the first thing I saw was a big stranding black hair on my moms ham. Once that happened we told our server and without a single apology she grunted like she was angry and walked into the back. It was at that time that we noticed that what we think is the owners son was helping in the kirchen with no hair net. The hair was definitely his as the cook has a skin tight buzz cut. We also saw the man rubbing his head several times before touching dishes in the back. Apparently cleanliness is not important. Our check came and still no apology for the hair in the food. Not even a free donut. The food was okay overall but I doubt I'll be coming back. I hate to give bad reviews but this place earned it. **On a side note my wife just tried her donut that we got to go and she said that the chocolate cream filled donut was the best donut she's probably ever had so that's a small amount of redemption for the sub-par customer service. I stop here way more often than I should, but breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out. "The Dip," as the waitresses call it, doesn't have a large menu (they recently compacted it a bit), but they offer a daily special for both breakfast and lunch. Service has always been outstanding and very friendly since they all help where help is needed instead of having each person only take care of a certain group of tables. It is a little bit of a "greasy spoon," depending on who is cooking but usually everything is cooked just right. Occasionally there is a heavy hand on the butter when cooking the hashbrowns but the bacon is very tasty (ask for well done), I love the omelets, and their fish sandwich for lunch is quite large and delicious. I see lots of breakfast sandwiches on texas toast being ordered but I haven't tried those yet. Several people who eat a meal here also get a donut for dessert or carry home a box. I'm a cake donut lover so I'm happy that The Dip has a selection of those, plus the cinnamon twists (in the glass case) are amazing. All in all, a great friendly little place with a nice warm buzz where you can sit and read the paper or play sudoku while enjoying your meal and never-ending coffee. read more

This probably should have been my first review because it I just cannot say enough about this charming little diner that is just second away from where we live. We have been here well into the double digits and have never had a bad experience. I will say this though, the only thing I have ever got there and not liked was the chicken gyro and the cajun chicken gyro. I know, fool me once, but I guess I'm a glutton for both punishment and gyros. I know in my Winking Lizard review I talked about saving 4 and 5 stars for more gourmet places and I am officially retracting that statement. The diner is right of Kenny Rd. and the large sign makes it hard to miss. The decor is relatively plain with some cliche signs saying "eat here diet home" and "every time I say the word diet I wash my mouth out with chocolate" and they're totally campy and I love it. It's not super kitsch because those are verbatim two of the maybe five signs. In addition there are two TVs at opposite ends of the diner, but it's really all about the food. For breakfast, I almost always get the chocolate chip pancakes and a side of bacon and maybe a donut as a primer. Perfection every time. Any egg dish is good too and the donuts can only described as divine. Despite only being open until about 2:30, the Honey Dip is not a one trick pony and serves a mean lunch with the exception of the gyros as I mentioned above. The club is really good, it's my girlfriend's go to and I always hope that she doesn't finish. As far as less standard fare is concerned, I've had the bacon cheeseburger with donuts for buns and it is as good as one would expect with my one complaint being that patty was way hotter than anything else and I kept burning my tongue, but it's probably on me to learn some patience and restraint. I got an eggs benedict and it wasn't very good at all. However, the toasted coconut donut made up for it ten fold! So delicious!

So this is a doughnut place. I stopped by today at 12:30 on a Saturday to get a half dozen doughnuts. When I walked in there wasn't a doughnut to be found. Seeing they were going to be open for 2 more hours I thought surely they were in the process of making more; that was until I asked and was told no they were not going to sell anymore doughnuts since they sold out. Pretty pathetic. Guess I will be finding a more dependable doughnut place next time I want to buy doughnuts. read more

It's local, the donuts are fresh. You should consider going in, bringing your newspaper and ordering table service; for breakfast OR lunch. The folks work so hard, and bring something unique to Columbus. The buttermilk donut is the best. Lunch options look good too. They appeared to know many patrons by name and preferences. read more
