There are several touch screen computers in the back and you can place your order. Want dressing on the side,? No problem. What about switching your chicken with shrimp? They can do that too. Each step is easy and itemized so if there is an extra cost it will be displayed. After you place your order you swipe on the pad attached to your pad and it prints out your receipt. Then you step the side... and the're off! Let the races begin! You watch a board similar to those at the race track to see your number. You wait in anticipation and when your number comes up you go to the counter, grab your bag and go. There is a fixing station with a few sauces and utensils. I love this concept--it's automated, fast and surely the new wave of fast casual dining. I came on a Thursday evening around 6pm--there were no lines and only a few people in there. I got the coconut curry with tofu, rice noodles and added broccoli. The flavors of the dish left me wanting more as it was quite flavorless. The description of the dish sounded more appealing than it really was. I also appreciated how each item listed the calorie count next to it. I was really excited to try this place after seeing that its two main dishes are stir fry noodles and create-your-own salads. However, the food itself was a bit disappointing. I've only been here once, and I'm willing to go back and try another dish/ location, but man was my food super lackluster. I ordered the red coconut curry and I hate to say it but nothing about these noodles tasted like coconut or red curry. The noodles themselves tasted rather bland and were too oily. I had to add a bunch of hoisen, sriratcha, and soy sauce to even taste any flavor. The tofu was very bland, even for tofu. The menu said seated spicy tofu, but it was not spicy at all. It's possible that this could be their blandest dish because it was their only vegetarian option (many places forget that veggie dishes can have flavor too), but if that's the case, I still would rate this place the same. The veggies in the stir fry were fine, and the rice noodles were cooked okay, just very little flavor. I like the touch screen kiosks to order (gave me time to look through the whole menu without rushing). And I thought that the flap down number board was a cool, shout-free way to find out when your order was ready. The juices and salads looked nice from afar, so I'll definitely go back to try something else. When I moved from Philly to NYC I was slightly devastated that I was no longer within blocks of one. You order at a little computer kiosk (an introverts dream), pay, and wait towards the back area for your number to come up. I ordered a not-so-standard salad (not standard because I got to customize it to my likes) and also a side of their bread. While you wait in the back (near the drink fountain) a bunch of numbers flip, old school style, and when you're pops up your order is ready. The salad I ordered was HUGE! I was really surprised. I thought they made it to perfection, they tossed it so the dressing was evenly distributed and wasn't too heavy. They weren't so stingy on the toppings I wanted either so it wasn't just a bunch of lettuce and spinach with 3 pieces of walnuts. I don't recommend the break very much, it was pretty unmemorable. I came here for the first time today with my coworkers for lunch. The ordering process is very simple you order on a screen and then they call out your number when it is ready. I had the sesame garlic stir fry customized to my liking everything was fresh and tasty. I cannot believe this food is healthy it tastes so good! I also had the orange juice which was refreshing and did not have an overly ginger flavor which a problem I usually have with ginger in my juice. The location is very clean which was great I looked at the prep stations and I did not see a mess at all. Very happy with honeygrow. I plan to have lunch there again very soon! All of my dear Philly friends are going to say how late I am to jumping on the Honeygrow bandwagon, but better late than never. I've heard of this spot because of its quick popularity in Philly and because the founder is a Temple Alum (hoot hoot!), so I was excited to find out that they brought it to my dear Brooklyn. When you walk in, you pass by all of the delicious ingredients and it leads you to an area with a cash register and then a bunch of kiosks. I'm pretty sure you can just order with the cashier but it's so much fun to watch your order come together as you play on the kiosk screen. They have many popular, pre-created choices that you can quickly choose, but I opted to create my own stir fry and the kiosk was very simple to use with picking what you want. You get to choose a protein, base, veggies, sauce, and garnishes. I went with chicken, brown rice, few green veggies, a garlic sauce and some chili flakes to garnish. Let me tell you that this was one of the best stir fry dishes I've ever had! The sauce was sooo good, and they give you so much of the food that you definitely leave satisfied and full. The chicken was juicy and the veggies were fresh. Everything about my bowl was amazing. I like that they have chopsticks there for those who prefer their rice or noodles that way, or those who like to practice their chopstick skills (me). I have ordered the custom stir-frys a few times now, and two out of the three times, my order was messed up. The first time, they forgot to include the sauce that I wanted on the side, and the most recent time (as part of a group order), they forgot both the sauce AND the Boston lettuce cups which is supposed to be the "base". (How do you forget what is supposed to be the most important part of the order?!) And one of the times that I was waiting for my order to be ready, another customer also found that he was missing his sauce. So, this is apparently a trend. Whatever their system is - for checking that everything ordered is included - doesn't work. I mean, they made up for forgetting the Boston lettuce and sauce by delivering the forgotten items over to us (we were just a couple blocks away) and offered a drink to compensate for their mistake, which is a very nice gesture ... but these kinds of mistakes shouldn't be made in the first place, especially when you have the electronic kiosks to take orders that eliminates the human error aspects of it from the ordering process. But when you don't have someone who actually checks the order against the receipt, it kind of doesn't matter. The food is pretty decent, though, and I appreciate that you can make a very healthy salad or stir-fry (of course, depending on what ingredients you include, as you can still make an unhealthy salad with unhealthy ingredients). There are a few vegan and gluten-free ingredients to make your order vegan and gluten-free, which I also very much appreciate. A few more V & GF options would be nice. However, it is a little on the bland side, so you HAVE to use one of their sauces (which was why I was annoyed I didn't get a sauce my first time there), or use some Sriracha sauce that they also have available. As much as I enjoy health-conscious stir-fry, hg fails to impress as a lunch option in the area. The lines move slowly and the quality of the noodles are not as great as I would like them to be. I like the emphasis on non-GMO, local, seasonal produce, meat, and dairy options but somehow hg fails to make their ingredients shine; I have ordered the signature stir-frys and customized stir-frys and they all taste a little muddled. I will never again be tricked by white people selling "red coconut curry". After selecting and paying extra for more vegetables, my order was essentially a box of rice noodles with tofu and a few small pieces of broccoli. I had also ordered bean sprouts, mushrooms, and spinach but that was completely missing from my order. They either forgot the red curry sauce, or maybe the sauce is supposed to be just oil with no seasonings. Half of the tofu was completely charred; I like a little bit of grill marks but this was unmistakably burnt. Maybe their salads are great, and maybe I just got a weird order, but the vibe was also pretty unpleasant. It seems like this place serves middle-upper class people taking their lunch break, and the lunch hour was completely mobbed with people who were not aware of how much space they were taking up or that they were standing in the middle of walkways. Technology much? Wow! Sometimes I feel torn for loving self ordering. On the one hand the way I like controlling wtf I want; especially being vegan. The machines don't give you that blank look when you ask if something is vegan or dairy free. Three managers in will usually get you the answer you want. The food is solid and I usually don't leave bad reviews on wait times. However, the wait is consistently, ridiculously bad, no matter which way I order (their own app or seamless). The last time I tried the app, they pushed back the arrival time over an hour and then just canceled on me altogether. The set up is very smart: you walk in, place your order via touchscreen computers, wait for it to be prepared, and then eat in or take it to go. However, since you don't interact with anyone until you pick up your food, those with a lot of questions might be turned off by this. I went on a Saturday afternoon post-work, and found it pretty easy to place an order. I built my own stir-fry bowl with brown rice, chicken and veggies topped with the sesame garlic sauce. The staff is very friendly and quick to fulfill orders. Prices are around $9-$12, more if you get fancier ingredients. So why three stars? I didn't feel like the stir-fry lived up to the hype or it's almost $11 price tag. It tasted like a step up from Panda Express. Maybe I should have opted for a suggested option or a salad, but I wasn't satisfied with my meal. I usually order the stir-fry with rice. Delicious, but leaves me hungry. It's mostly rice. My wife has ordered the noodle dishes and it's the same thing. The grain or pasta makes up the entire dish. This was really evident today when I took an order to go and turned it over onto a paper plate at work. You can see the rice surrounding the small portion of other food in the middle. What would this plate look like if the rice (the cheapest ingredient) was removed? There would be nothing left. This is the sesame garlic stir-fry with chicken and broccoli. Again, it is delicious, just not very much food. It would be great if they offered a slightly smaller size with a lower price and a slightly larger size with a higher price. I think most people prefer to take a bite of the main ingredients along with the grain or pasta. You're not able to do that the way the dishes are currently prepared because all you're left with is rice after a few bites. I just finished eating this for lunch and I'm already thinking about what else I have to eat. And I'm a smaller guy. A hungry reviewer is not good for business, Honeygrow. Re: Honeygrow's offer to "assist me". While I appreciate the offer, I believe that the quantity of food is carefully considered on a corporate level. This spot is honest, clean and inspiring. You can choose a stir-fry, salad or yogurt- all made to order. It's like a chinese take-out crashed into a chipotle. I had the togarashi tofu on brown rice with broccoli, sprouts, spinach with 5 spice soy topped with fried shallots and crushed nuts. Healthy, yummy and I just love the veritable combinations. Only caveat- they heavily sauce and the trimmings are super flavorful, so I'd ask for half sauce or sauce on the side. First the atmosphere is very chill, they have tablets you can order on which I LOVE because it has pictures of the foods and shows pictures of all the ingredients in it and gives you the choice to substitute anything for an ingredient you don't like. The first time I decided to try the garlic stir fry which i found to be extremely oily, like the type where after every single bite you have to wipe your lips with a napkin cause you have a blob of oil on them.. that type of oil. This place looks very healthy oriented so i was kind of disappointed in that but... I gave this place another chance So the second time I came I got a salad and substituted a few things and ended up loving it. But with all my substitutions my salad ending up being a whole $18 which i feel like salads shouldn't cost that much. Stopped here randomly with the family on a Sunday afternoon. We needed a quick bite to eat after a trying morning. Place was very quiet. We were surprised to discover the ordering is done via kiosks. This was actually fun. For a "build your own" salad / stir fry place like this, the ability to take my time thinking through all the customization options is actually perfect! I didn't feel pressured by the presence of a waiting human being at the other end of the interaction... nor was I concerned about the next person in line pestered by my indecisiveness. I am definitely a fan of technology (when used appropriately to meet needs, as it is here), so the Honeygrow experience totally worked for me. As for the food - I had the sesame stir fry noodles, which was very fresh, with mild, pleasant flavors. I liked the garnish options and was able to select cilantro. My husband enjoyed his salad, though wished for more dressing options. I liked that there was a kids menu, which was a smaller portion of the stir fry. The honey with fruits and yogurt was delicious! The ingredients are sourced locally and the taste reflects the quality of the selections. We would definitely come back and try more selections.
