My husband and I stopped for dinner on our way to Lowe's. We were excited due to the reviews. Unfortunately, the food wasn't up to par. The shrimp toast was not firm but flavors came through with ginger and garlic. This was our highlight. The orange chicken had too much of a thick gravy sauce; more of a brown sauce consistency. The most disappointing was the chicken fried rice. It tasted like it was from frozen package. It's such a shame because the restaurant still has a full bar and tables with fresh linens. Love this place, it's hard to find a great chinese spot to actually understand the people along with great food. Around this area their isn't too many great spots to eat where there aren't many thugs, this is a great spot to relax, eat, drink & know that you are safe to be in. (Even when cops aren't there); Food is great, and if there is one particular plate that you don't feel is cooked correctly all you have to do is speak up. Ok, so I went back this week after two years to see if my taste buds were back to normal. I had the Fried noodles and chicken with pot stickers. The food seems to taste a lot better now and I was delighted by the experience of reintroducing Hung Huah to my Chinese restaurant line-up. The restaurant has improved with it's menu items. This place was part of my search for a local Chinese spot, and it was crossed off the list before the meal was even served. I didn't know what sort of place this was, so I opted for take out, and am glad I did. I felt dirty as soon as I walked in the door, it was empty on a Friday evening spoke volumes, and when I paid for my food the owner(?) gave me my change from the wad of cash/coin purse from his pocket and pocketed what I gave him. In the 7 minutes it took me to get home, the paper bag that was containing my food had started to grease through and ended up tearing/falling apart by the time I got inside. They hadn't closed the box holding the egg rolls and the grease from the box had leaked out allover. The Crab Rangoon was hard as a rock, as if it had been sitting under hot lamps since lunchtime the day before. The Mongolian Beef (which was recommended by another Yelper) was medium rare at best. The Kung Bao Chicken was peanuts and hot peppers in a gray sauce, there was no chicken in it. The Sweet and Sour Chicken wasn't cooked the whole way through as the batter from the chicken had merged to a big pile at the bottom of the container. The Salt Pepper Shrimp was overcooked with nothing but salt, the Mixed Vegetables were raw and shoved into a take-out box, and they didn't give us any rice. Don't even bother with this place, you might as well throw your money into the trash. read more

Best Chinese food in the area. If ever I crave Chinese, I order from hong huah. Shrimp fried rice consists of good sized shrimp. Mongolian beef is delicious and served on a bed of fried noodles. Orders are big and plenty, so you get a lot for your money. I recommend getting appetizers because they are my absolute favorite thing to order from here. Eggrolls, potstickers and crab ragoon are some great appetizers to just name a few. Almond cookies and fortune cookies with every order. And not mentioning very friendly, family owners, who been owning the owning for many years. Ambiance is very tacky with mirror walls, but I like that you can get a glimpse of what goes on in the kitchen when looking from a certain angle. I took my 14 month old nephew here. The food was amazing, as usual. We get beef fried rice and sesame chicken along with pot stickers. It's always great. But what we really enjoyed this particular time was how friendly and accommodating they were to my nephew. They sat us near a tv and turned on sprout... which kept him entertained until the food came. They were so friendly with him, it was awesome. My nephew loved the food, but he did manage to get rice all over the floor. We felt so bad and we even apologized a few times for the mess. The waiter came by and was so kind and said "don't worry his mouth just isn't big enough yet." His smile was contagious and made my nephew laugh. Ok, so I've been to Hong Huah two times in two weeks now. I'm really feeling this place. It's super clean inside, the staff is super friendly, the prices are super cheap and the food is super tasty. I ordered the Sesame Chicken and it was delish! The Eggrolls are quite tasty too! But what really does it for me is the size of the Chicken Fried Rice! One order is enough for 3 people.....easily! I won't give it 5 stars yet because I'd like to taste more on the menu. I tried the Mongolian Beef and it wasn't what I was used to (see: Joy Yee Noodle) but it wasn't bad. read more

This is a big secret that everybody knows. Great food at super low prices. I have been here countless times after was introduced to it by colleagues in 1995! It has been my son's favorite growing up and have held many important meetings here. The food is excellent and I will put it against any Asian cuisine in US and I have been in China! 90% of the times I get the Mongolian Beef and I cannot find it this way anywhere else. The staff is super friendly and sweet and non-intrusive. The space is small and the decor a little bit 'tired' plus they added a TV screen which in fact does not do the place justice. Here's a small place that has a friendly atmosphere. I strongly recommend their delicious and hearty Egg Drop Soup. They serve it with plenty of eggs in a chicken broth and a few vegetables. If you go with one or two friends, you will definitely get more than your money's worth. You better all have an appetite to take advantage of their various Chinese appetizers and assorted meals. I sat in a full disgruntled restaurant with dozens of other people and only one table was served any food over 50 minutes as we all watched the delivery driver enter and leave twice with huge packs of food. This restaurant has been a staple of the area for a very long, so much so that I would considerate it a real part of the neighborhood. The owner and his son are very friendly and nice people, both of them are willing to go out of their way to make sure that you have a enjoyable and cordial experience. The food came out really fast to the table and each dish came out hot, fresh, and very delicious. Also, the menu includes some the normal Chinese American dishes, they also have the hidden gems of the traditional chinese dishes. I came in starving and ordered pork fried rice and crab rangoons and Also combination low mein. Crab rangoons- were not fresh didn't have any good taste! The happy family seafood item was good, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm unsatisfied. The price was way too high for the amount of food we received and was not worth the price. I would probably dine in hoping it was a really fancy place to go on date (not sure how it looks) but for now the deliver my was way too expensive for a little bowl and five pieces of crab bites that resemble long john silver's hush puppies. As a Grubhub Fan calling Chinese restaurants over the phone lets just say has just not given me some of the best experiences. After just commenting on this before calling I was very surprised to have an amazing experience and customer service was impeccable. So we took a ride over to pick up and i decided we both had to go in as we have never ordered from here before. It was very late so im sure they were closing soon but that did not stop staff from greeting us. I mean even the ones from what it looked like doing paper work the cashier who rang us up was amazing letting us know everything we needed to know and also giving us a complimentary calendar! (sat 14 around 1015). Now to my favorite part of course the food. It was delicious and even better than what we expected. Absolutely disgusting and awful delivery guy. Delivery guy forgot to give me my soda. Had to call the restaurant to get him to bring it...restaurant said driver already knew that we didn't get them. When he brought them back he calls and says "I GOT YOUR COKE LADY" and then when I got them from him he's like "HERE!" It was almost comical how rude he was. Anyways back to the food...chicken fried rice had carrots and peas like Panda Express rice. Chicken was all rubbery and yucky. And also I thought they gave me the wrong dish because I got a tall plastic container with black liquid and vegetables when I ordered beef egg foo young lol restaurant said egg patties on the bottom. Definitely odd and egg patties tasted like they were made with rotten eggs. Prices were very high for what we got compared to other restaurants. i expierenced the worst delivery service ever from this place, which is one of my favorites. You would think it was superbowl sunday. It took over an hour and forty mins and three phone calls to get my food delivered when it showed up it was cold and the soy sauce packets were all open i called to complain and they thought i was a new customer trying to order delivery from them which i will never do again read more

Service is great. The proprietor John is so nice. It's good homemade Chinese food. My family eats in here once every couple months, and they deliver all the way to South Oak Park. My favorites include pot stickers, crab rangoon ( get the appetizers platter for large group) sesame chicken, and the last time we were there he made us a special lobster dish which fas fantastic. I went to this restaurant for the first time tonight -- with my wife and mother-in-law. I would rate the service as 4.5 stars, the food 3.75 stars, and the physical dining room and ambiance 2.5 stars. We had three appetizers: egg rolls, barbecue pork, and satay beef. And we had three entrees with white rice: Orange Beef, Mongolian Chicken, and Sesame Chicken. We were served complimentary tea, as well as almond and fortune cookies for dessert. Overall the food was fresher and lighter and less greasy than most Chinese restaurants. The barbecue pork was a bit bland for my taste, but on the plus side it was not red-colored or over-cooked. The restaurant had a good dinner crowd including Hispanic-American families from the neighborhood and at least three tables of Chicago policemen in uniform. read more
