Desperately seeking a new calendar, I called around looking for the Chinese restaurant that had what I was looking for. What luck, in business with Hong Huah, free calendar, no minimum order. The hours are great, open til 10, 11 on the weekends, and they deliver. I ordered some egg rolls, shrimp toast, and crab rangoons, and they were greasy deliciousness and didn't break the bank. The service was very friendly, although the decor was a little dated, a little reminiscent of my great aunt's living room if she had been Asian. I will be back Hong Huah, and probably even before I need another calendar! read more

I have been going here forever! My mom always worked near by so we would go for lunch all of the time. The lunch specials are less than $5 and include soup (the hot and sour cures anything, I dream about it), egg roll, fried rice, entree, cookies, and tea. If you are out that way definitely get there, if not... it's worth the trip. Atmosphere is funny... don't expect anything special.. kinda sleeztastic if you ask me. To my coworkers and I, this place is affectionately known as "Green Awning", because most of these people seem to have difficulty in pronouncing the real name. A lot of my Mexican comrads refer to this place as "Green Onion". The food here is excellent. It is not the best, by far, but for a business lunch outing, you simply cannot go wrong. For about six dollars (yes, six dollars), you can order a lunch special (my favorites are sweet and sour chicken, chicken w/ vegetables, sesame chicken, and Mongolian beef) which comes with a bowl of soup (egg drop or hot and sour), egg roll, fortune cookie, and cookies. Hot tea is complimentary as well, and they give you a big kettle of it. The hot and sour soup deserves it's own paragraph. This stuff is delicious. It can be ordered to go, and they certainly don't skimp on the sheer amount they give you. This soup can sure any ailment, and tastes just as good if you are already healthy. The owner is the nicest guy on the planet. He personally greets all his customers, and will shake your hand and ask how you have been if you are a regular. Decent chinese food- cheap, delicious- the hot and sour soup in particular is wonderful. Be wary though, ordered chicken stir-fried noodles here and a wayward shrimp came in mine- normally not a big deal, except for the part where I have a potentially fatal shellfish allergy and made a special note in my order through grubhub that they should be particularly careful not to get any shrimp in with my food. Alas, I will have to find myself a new chinese place. But for those of you without unfortunate allergies to delicious food, this is a good choice for decent chinese. read more

My family and I have been coming to Hong Huah for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the neighborhood, so this great restaurant was our go-to place for family dinners or special celebrations. We came here so often that we became friends with the owner and his family as well. We happened to return for a visit (the owner John still remembers us!) for my 21st birthday. He gave me a nice cocktail and also a beautiful lantern decoration to hang in the house as a gift. These are genuinely nice people serving seriously delicious food. The service is great - friendly, helpful, and prompt. Food has always been top notch. Now, I won't claim to be a connoisseur of Chinese cuisine, but ever single dish I've eaten here since childhood has been wonderful. As a kid I was blown away by the fanciful flowers they would craft out of radishes and beetroot. Dishes are not overly salted and are perfectly seasoned. My favorite has always been the Mu Shu vegetables slathered in hoisin sauce wrapped in a delicious thin pancake. Another favorite is the Happy Family dish of sauteed seafood and vegetables, and also the awesome Crab Rangoon appetizer. We love supporting local family-owned restaurants, and I'm so happy that this place is still around. read more

I always order delivery off yelp. This Chinese restaurant requires a minimum of only $10 (other places req $20 or $25!). I have ordered here twice. Delivery is always prompt (always about 15 mins earlier than the given eta). Food is good for a good price and delivery staff is always nice. Hmm, I've been passing by this place for about a year and a half and meaning to stop in and today I finally got around to trying it. Below is how I break down my experience: Flavor - 3.5 stars I'd say it's a little better than most Chinese places, but nothing that I'm going to get excited about. Service - 4 stars The man who waited on me was friendly and I've got no complaints on this item. Cleanliness - 4 stars What can I say clean is good. Bang for your buck - 5 stars For $9 I got enough good food to last 2 or 3 meals so I certainly can't complain. Although 3 out of 4 of my ratings are a 4 or 5 for me flavor is by far the biggest factor in rating a place so since that is only a 3.5 star rating I'll give this nice little place an overall 4 star rating. I'm sure at some point I'll go back and try some other dishes here and if my opinion changes substantially then I'll post an updated review. read more

I can't even give this place a one star. Unfortunately I saw a cockroach inside the restaurant. The cockroach was about an inch long. My family was a loyal customer for over 8 years. One day while I was paying I saw the cockroach and I told a young guy and he didn't know what to do he tried to step on in and looked at me. He was embarrassed. The young guy is the owner's son. Based on yelp reviews I decided to try the Mongolian beef lunch special today. I'm not even finished with it but was so impressed I wanted to review it while the flavors were still fresh on my tongue and mind. It wasn't like any other Mongolian beef I've had before, less saucy, way more flavor. I don't even think I can give proper words. It was just tender, flavorful and delicious. So delicious I want to order it for dinner tonight! The portion was slightly smaller than I'm used to from most Chinese places. That said, it was a perfect lunch portion. I think I've just gotten used to the gluttonous portion sizes at most places. The lunch special came with a scoop (literally) of fried rice, a really good egg roll (the cabbage inside had a little crisp to it) and a small cup (maybe 6-8oz) of soup. I stopped here on Sunday at 430pm, because of the great reviews posted. First I would agree that the potstickers are delicious. I had the beef chop suey and was not impressed at all. My date had beef curry and I was told that it was very good. The service was not so great, I don't know if I just went on one of their really busy days but we were the only ones in the dining room and it took awhile to actually get our meal. People who walked in got their orders faster than we did. I did hear the phone ringing a lot and also noticed a lot of pick up orders come in as well so maybe they are more concerned with their walk ins, delivery and pick up orders more than the dine in patrons. I had to find someone for more hot sauce because we ran out on our table. I had to ask for water because we ran out and were never asked if we needed a refill on our beverages when they were empty. I believe four star reviews have to have the whole picture and not just great food. I myself have had better beef chop suey. This is DEFINITELY not a five star. I would only go here if I call in a pick up order but I probably will not dine in again besides there are an abundanceof chinese restaurants here in Chicago to choose from, I need more attention then what i received here. A little pricier than nearby competition but worth it. As always when we do Chinese takeout, we get all kinds of stuff, most of my which is pretty basic like fried rice or lo mein. As you'd expect, being a little more expensive, these basics are very good here. But we also try more adventurous stuff if they have it. While some might consider the egg Foo young basic as well, i have found it varies greatly from place to place and is a good gauge of the place overall. This egg Foo young is pretty damn delicious and properly served in a plastic soup container instead of the paper boxes from which it often leaks. I was also very excited that they had fried duck as well. Duck is easily my favorite meat behind a good beef or tuna steak and although the Chinese method of preparation is not my favorite, I will still order it when I see it. Maybe it was just mine... Maybe it was just late when we ordered, but the duck was not very good. The sauce made up for it, but overall it seemed like it had been sitting all day after being cooked and alot of the flavor had gone from it. Some of the dark meat bites were downright gross. Overall this is the best Chinese place I've found in the far NW area of the city, including nearby suburbs. Just don't think I'm going to order the duck again. read more

I really love this place. I can honestly say it is my FAVORITE Chinese food. The potstickers are absolutely delicious (which everybody probably already knows from everyone else's reviews and pictures but I also love their beef on a stick as an appetizer! They're so succulent and marinated very well. As far as entrees, I ALWAYS get the beef chow fun. Someone posted a picture of it on here and I just HAD to try it. My Fiance and I ordered from here for the first time. We ordered shrimp fried rice, kung pao chicken, mongolian beef, potstickers and an eggroll. The potstickers were nice and doughy and the shrimp fried rice had a really nice flavor. the kung pao chicken was not spicy, but I liked that nearly everything in there was diced up around the same size. It was still tasty, just not as spicy as kung pao chicken can be. My fiance thought everything was ok but wasn't in love enough to convert from our normal Chinese place. Yes its relatively cheap and they serve you and obscene amount of food in the lunch specials, but jesus, the food is bad, I went there with my friend and we both ended up throwing away like 3/4 of it. Hong Hugh's owner clearly manages the restaurant well. The friendly welcome is the first thing I notice coming in for the first time. As I waited for my food, he also greeted the regulars with great warmth. In terms of food, I found it to be middle of the road. Egg roll and fried rice were on the plain side. The house made sauces are also a nice touch. Based on the recommendations here, I tried the Mongolian beef - tasty, but not saucy like I'm used to. Their style of cooking it is to slightly char the meat. Hard to miss the outdated décor, mismatched walls and tables, but everything looks very well maintained and clean. Wish I could give a better review but the service sucked if your ordering delivery. Ordered the appetizer BBQ Pork and I got dry pork slices! Ordered delivery and it took an hour and half which was a bit longer than expected. Ordered the sesame chicken and egg roll. Sesame chicken does not come with any type of broccoli or veggie like most places I've been too and the pieces of "chicken" were tiny pieces of mush. It was 90% breading. The egg roll was soggy and not very tasteful. I ended up getting sick midway though eating the meal and threw the rest out. Waste of money. read more

My family has been coming to this restaurant since 1996 and we love it. The food is always good, never heavy, not too salty, and not overcooked. Throughout the years I've tried almost everything on the menu, and while not everything is my favorite (just a matter of taste) I enjoyed exploring the entrees. My favorite are their egg rolls, they are very crispy and not drenched in oil. I also enjoy their crab rangoons, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken.
