This is a much smaller buffet compared to some of the others in the state. What's nice is they do offer quite a few items you don't see at the other buffets. Their dinner buffets offer prime rib and filet mignon carving station. They do keep an eye on the of the food items to make sure to refill if running low. I can see someone walking around the buffet with a microphone, they're calling out what dishes to restock so it's constantly get refilled . Quality is good as they come, offered in a buffet. They must be doing something right they just got voted the journal's readers choice of best buffet. Went in to grab a quick bite during the weekend. I did not have to wait long. Staff member had me use hand sanitizer prior to sitting. The place uses paper/plastic plates. I am glad that have these simple procedure change since many people touch the utensils. Although the selection was small and did not have large quantities of food to reduce wasteful spending and old food, the food was fresh. Fried rices and chow mein were good. I just went for lunch and it seems there are way more food options at dinner, but I can only comment on lunch. Nice salad section, lots of vegetables to add. No shrimp cocktail or cold clams like most buffets. Very basic Chinese food. Lo-mein, chicken and broccoli, general chicken, flavorless rice noodles with veggies. Then American pizza, fried fish, etc For me the highlights were : * Chicken moo shi with pancakes (never saw that at a buffet before and it was GOOD!) *clams in back bean spicy sauce sauteed green beans Disappointments: sushi - all cold and flavorless chicken wings greasy crab rangoon over cooked the rest of the food was just mediocre at best. A very nice boofay I've been to a whole heap of boofays around the country and most of them were of the pseudo American Chinese or whatever they are called. I'm not sure what authentic Chinese food is but even I can figure out you aren't going to find it in a place like this. But you will find a whole bunch of different types of foods, including sushi, lots of chicken dishes, some fresh and crunchy veggies and some of the best egg foo yung that I ever had. Not all soggy and mushy, this egg foo yung was superb. The boofay was clean and the all of the different food items were kept filled and hot. The servers weren't exactly friendly but they were very polite and efficient. That's all I ask for. This is a boofay just like a bezillion other ones of it's type. But considering the price and the convenience of not waiting for your food it is a really good one that does it right. And the best part is that you definitely won't leave hungry. read more

After reading some of the Yelp reviews, I decided to give HK Buffet a try. From the street, the restaurant looked closed, but you have to park in the back and enter from behind....When I walked in on a Wed afternoon around 12:15, I did not see many people, maybe about half to a third of the restaurant was occupied....that was the first sign.... I had three different plates of food, trying many different items to assess..... Here is my feedback: Pork Fried rice - not good Beef Chow fun - too greasy, bland Vegetable Lo mein - not good Beef Curry - Good, moist, tasty Kung Pao Chicken...mostly vegetables, not great, not spicy enough Boneless Pork ribs - OK, not great Mo Shu Chicken - extremely salty and burnt Spring egg rolls - crispy and light Shrimp crackers **These are one of my favorite snacks at any Chinese restaurant** Here, I had one bite and I had to put it down....Could not eat them...I usually eat 30-40 in one sitting at other restaurants !!! Tuna Sushi - OK Shrimp sushi roll - OK Chicken and Broccoli, nice broccoli, but chicken was bland Chicken and Corn soup - terrible Egg Tart - *excellent* it was warm, flaky and flavorful Fried Chicken wings - Very greasy and tough Grilled Chicken wings - better, but not good enough for me to come back. The selection of food covers all the popular Chinese combo items- general tso's, boneless fried chicken w brown gravy and sweet/sour sauce, beef & chicken and broccoli, beef/chicken Teriyaki, dumplings (pan fried and steamed) egg rolls, rice, lo mein, some American cuisine - onion rings, fried, chicken tender, Mac & cheese, full salad bar, shrimp cocktail, they also have a couple of shrimp dishes. 1 with the skin and legs on (yuck!) and 1 peeled. Overall, I would (and have!) recommend this Chinese Buffett. One of the cleaner buffets in the area, average price ($15 dinner). The selection is above average and odds are they will have your favorite Chinese dish, food is good quality for buffet, food is usually hot and consistently replenished. Tonight we went in for the buffet served at your table. This is a brilliant idea by the way! We didn't know what to expect when we arrived. I must say ALL Covid-19 rules and recommendations were followed to a T. We were greeted at the door, brought straight to our clean table then the Hostess explained to us how the buffet will work and she handed us a few paper menus that had all their buffet food listed on it to choose from. Pretty self explanatory. Next another person came over to our table to take my name and phone #. The food came to the table quickly, hot and fresh. The turn over was very quick. No waiting on your food. I looked around and saw how hard all of the staff were working. This may be a new way of business for Hong Kong Buffet but I thought they did extremely well under the circumstances. I highly recommend this restaurant which has always been my #1 Chinese food place. read more

My first time going there was this past weekend. My girlfriend highly recommended it so I gave it a try. When we arrived, the place was packed and we were told it would be a 20 min wait. That wait ended up being about 5-7 minutes. It was a Saturday night so they had a cutting station which had filet and prime rib which is normally not available for dinner on other days. Both were cooked well and nicely seasoned. They had about 7-8 different kinds of sushi (maki) available which ranged from tempura shrimp, eel, salmon to california roll and others. The individual pieces were smaller than you're typical sushi would be, but had a good flavor. The variety was plentiful overall and while I was there, anytime something was beginning to run low at any station, it was quickly replenished. Of the items I tried, I would recommend the filet, prime rib, stir fry little necks and the sushi. The rest like the boneless ribs, beef teriyaki, crab rangoon, and wings were good, but not much different than you'd find at a good Chinese place. The cons for me were the nime chow and the crab legs. The crab meat was seasoned well, but the meat itself was lacking flavor. Not a fresh tasting crab flavor. The service was good, drinks were promptly refilled and dirty plates removed. You can't argue the $13.50 price for what you get and most people should be able to come away feeling as though they ate their moneys worth. I would definitely go back if I were in the mood for Chinese buffet. read more

When I have a hankering for a good tasting Chinese food buffet that is also priced reasonably, Hong Kong Buffet is our go to. In fact the first time I ever went was over 10 years ago with my sister when she'd come down to visit on weekends, and we'd hit up the Hong Kong Buffet. It was good then, and it's still good now. Favorite offerings: crab rangoons, dumplings, lo mein, and the beef sticks. Everything I have had has been good, and my boyfriend has enjoyed everything he's eaten as well so we'll keep going back when we are craving a Chinese food buffet. read more

Who likes buffets? You walk in with an empty stomach and a mind filled with guilt because of the choice you're about to make. Usually you're preparing yourself to dive in head first into an array of food that's sub-par quality knowing that the rest of your day will be ruined from a food coma. HOWEVER! Strap on the feed bag Sally! Go for dinner Friday through Sunday when Prime Rib and Tenderloin is included. A slice of prime rib alone is worth the price of dinner! Wonderful and unique are the carving stations, as well as the grilled pork chops. Beef and chicken teriyaki. Salt and pepper shrimp, fried smelt, boneless spare ribs, green beans because you've got to have a vegetable, and some wonderful wide noodles in sweet soy sauce. There's the beef and potato curry I love. Little clams in the wok bubbling away in dow see. I like the sushi and seaweed salad in little cups. Mmmm. Very well done. The food is good on the weekends for sure. It's bangin busy and the food turns over quickly. Buffet 101. If you want the good stuff you've got to go when it's busy. I'll agree with others that the servers are a bit stiff. You get a little cup of soda, and when you're done, you've got to wave down your waitress and she comes back with a pitcher to fill it maybe once. No smiles... They definitely don't make you feel welcome. Sometimes I think they are thinking, "You want more soda, go home and drink it." With the exception of the older ladies in the sushi bar and carving station, I'd say they could be nicer and more attentive. I go for the food though. read more

Hands down! Best Chinese Buffet in the state! Been coming here for over 20 years. Food is always fresh, huge selection (both Chinese and American, especially for the kiddos) . Atmosphere is clean, welcoming and staff is friendly. Buffet is constantly being wiped down and refilled. We went at prime time of 530 on a Sunday. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but when leaving it was. I didn't get the price of other choices, but we paid $13.50 pp. My faves are the chicken and broccoli, green beans, fried rice, beef teriyaki and crab rangoon! This place is great. They always have so much tasty food. The selection is great. Not to mention they have great sushi as well. The people here are always very nice and accommodating. They make sure to grab all your plates so your table isn't cluttered. The bathrooms are clean as well and someone is always cleaning the restaurant somewhere. This is kind of a staple for me being born and raised in Rhode Island. Great selection of all you can eat buffet. My parents used to bring me here and I've always stopped here when I used to live in Rhode Island. I love their crab rangoons, sugar donuts, fried foods and boneless spare ribs! That's all I ever eat here. I have never reviewed it, so here it is it's very very good!! Service is always hit or miss but this waitress was on point and refilled our drinks. Soda gives you the burps so it's best to just get water and save my calories for their amazing appetizers here. "A-OK." I looked at Yelp's descriptions associated with each star rating and "A-OK." seemed to be the most fitting. Logging into this site I was pretty sure I'd go with one star, but "Eek! Methinks not." doesn't really fit for the Hong Kong Buffet. Me thinks a lot of things about this feeding trough, but "not" isn't one of them. And to go with a two star "Meh. I've experienced better." would be kind of like saying I've had better vacations than a voyage on the Titanic. What's going on at this place? You know, aside from police shootouts in the parking lot. Let's touch on a few items: - The people who work at the HKB are very nice. Service is good. Support local businesses. Seriously. - I'm pretty sure if you waited outside long enough you'd see a dump truck filled with corn starch pull up to the kitchen door and let 'er rip. Every sauced item in the buffet is one step away from being like encased in jello there's so much corn starch in this stuff. - My brother in law eats shrimp cocktail like it's his religion, and after two shrimp from the HKB he declared his "first plate a fail" and decided to move on to items that would be less likely to land him in the ER. - They got some clams that look like no clams I ever seen before. Like they scraped these sons of bitches off the hull of the Block Island ferry. I know you don't stay in business giving away bushels of clams but these things look like a button fell off my shirt collar into the corn starch slurry. - Do you need me to tell you about the pizza? Or the chicken fingers? I think I saw lasagna up there but who the hell even knows. - My other brother in law ate the sushi - we're talkin' the one with actual fish in it - and didn't die. (Yet.) - Don't forget to try the yankee pot roast with your General Tso's Chicken. - How can you screw up nime chow? (By putting fifty tons of rice noodles in it and having zero other fresh, vibrant flavors, that's how.) - The crabs actually looked pissed off that they'd been prepared in the manner they were. - How's your emotional well being? On a crowded Sunday afternoon you're going to have to confront some truths about our society and yourself for which you may not be prepared. Like any true spiritual journey, this could change you forever. - When all hope is lost you can simply slide your head underneath the soft serve ice cream machine and chocolate-vanilla swirl your troubles away. For a buffet, this is about as good as its going to get in this state. I usually prefer my regular favorite Chinese restaurants but this place is worth trying if chinese buffets worry you. The location isn't too sketchy and the place itself is surprisingly really clean. They have all your basic chinese options (lo mein, fried rice,generals chicken,spring rolls etc.....) plus a huge salad bar, dessert station anddddd sushi!! I have to say they had some of the best crab rangoon I've ever had and the sushi could of been served at a fancy restaurant. The service was fast and friendly I had no problems whatsoever. I don't go buffet often, but this place looked much like I remember it being a decade ago. Try to arrive either before or after the weekend dinner rush to have the express ride through buffet dinner. If you come with the crowds at 5-6pm, expect to be waiting in a cross section of society: families, elderly couples, groups of teenagers. Your basic choices here are also not ground breaking, but on par with buffet standards; stir fry, batter fried, veggie, American, sushi or seafood are your basic food groups here. I thought the veggies were pretty good-no canned mushrooms found here, no frozen brocoli. I had a bit of everything. There was one tofu dish, and a good amount of seafood. The one chicken dish I sampled was chicken with celery in sauce. All pretty decent! I didn't have any of the American food, and liked it that way. Overall an ok place for the money. You could literally eat all the food you need for a few days here in one visit and not try more than a small sample size of each of the dishes. There is a huge selection here, the food is pretty decent for buffet style. The staff is friendly enough (even though you don't have to interact with them very much). It can be a bit pricey but that all depends on how much you can eat. On weekend evenings, they have the carving station set up and that always gets an extra visit up from me. For the sake of full disclosure, I must admit to being an RI Chinese buffet veteran. Yet somehow, I had missed this one -- until last night. Hong Kong Buffet in Cranston came highly recommended, and luckily we arrived early because within minutes, the line went out the door and into the parking lot. I find it difficult to rate the experience, as it was all over the map. The selection would be one-starred as it offered much less than the others in Woonsocket or East Greenwich, however, I could also give it a four as there were several entrees I have not seen anywhere else (including a tasty General Tsao's shrimp and a shockingly OK prime rib.) They even had a somewhat unique Chinese beef stew, that featured water chestnuts and Chinese cabbage in a traditional Worcestershire sauce. Unfortunately, there were many outright awful entrees, too. The batter-dipped, deep-fried sushi was flavorless, the egg rolls were gross and mushy, and the mussels on the half-shell were downright terrifying. Yet, I must offer five stars for the soft serve ice cream machine. Thank goodness I didn't get to follow a half dozen sticky little kids digging with dirty scoops into the ice cream containers like they do at he other buffets. Overall, it should have been much better. But anyone who goes to one of these expecting a gourmet experience should have their head examined anyway. read more
