This is such a great kept secret in the Decatur area. Located inside a shopping center near Lawrenceville Hwy and N. Druid Hills, this takeout restaurant offers the freshest and top quality Chinese food. They do offer seating with a few tables inside, but most people are there to take out their food. Wonton Soup- loaded with handmade wontons. LOADED. The broth is rich without an overabundance of salt. It has a nice flavor. The wontons are stuffed well and are very flavorful as well. The Mooshu chicken comes with lots of tender sliced cooked veggies in a light sauce. The pancakes that they are served with help wrap the food up nicely and then top it with the plum sauce for a nice finish. The roast pork lo mein was the winner though! This is delicious American Chinese food. The food always tastes fresh and they give you a ton of food for a good price. I've ordered the Singapore rice noodles, lo mein, general tso's chicken, chicken with garlic sauce, and veggie spring rolls. Everything tastes delicious! This is a nice, speedy, friendly, no-ambiance takeout place for standard Americanized Chinese fare, but be forewarned: Check the contents of your order before leaving. A couple of times now I've left without checking and brought the food home, and only then did we discover that Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant forgot to include an item that we'd paid for. Granted, each time it's only been a small item left out of the order (such as the shrimp eggroll that was missing from pic related), but nothing for which it would have been worthwhile for me to drive all the way back to the restaurant to let them know. Everything else in this restaurant seems fine: decent prices for the area, generous-sized portions, fast and friendly service, and a health score of 100 (!) which has, sadly, become increasingly unusual for local restaurants. That being said, it's still a bit annoying and inconvenient to pay for something that they simply didn't put in the bag with the rest of the order. I usually consider leaving a small item or two out of someone's order to be nothing more than a minor oversight. Nonetheless, if it happens again with our next order, then we may have to consider crossing this restaurant off our "go to" list for takeout options. read more

I'd been going to this place for years. I don't even live near this location so when I go it is a special trip. Last few times that I've went, it was just okay but this last time was the nail in the coffin . I won't go back. I kept going back giving them a chance but I'm good now. 1st I ordered online and when I arrived to pick up my order, everything was not in the bag. Ok. So when I arrived home, my wife's general tso was hard as if made hours ago. The spring rolls were greasy! So greasy! The boneless chickens that I bought were ok but they have skimped on the portion severely! Fine! The final straw was when I ate my wonton soup and it was rancid. While visiting here, my wife and I ate here on thanksgiving. I was worried it wasn't going to be good but I was wrong. This is one of the best Chinese places I've ever had. Everything was good. I've been a customer here for quite a while, and this is my go to in the area for NYC style take out or delivery. The family that owns Hong Kong City is so kind and hard working. It is not uncommon to come in, and see someone taking a break in the front, or their son pitching in to take orders. While the dining area isn't much, the portions and flavor make up for lack of ambiance. The roasted pork Lo Mein is amazing- full of meat, veggies, and thick noodle. Snow pea chicken has tender velvets chicken chunks and tons of snow peas. The steamed dumplings are hand made and come with a yummy sauce. Inexpensive and hits the spot. read more

I get the wonton egg drop soup a lot, and their egg rolls are delicious. I think their crab rangoon is pretty good. I usually get the Buddhist delight, but I enjoy a lot of their other entrees that I've tried. I get enough food for several meals, and I never feel like I've over paid! This place is close to my job, I usually would just get an egg drop/wonton soup but I felt for a bit more today so I ordered the steamed chicken and mix veggie lunch plate which came with a spring roll and a wing. I also got the crab rangoon. The plate was ok, fresh and good a portion. However the rangoon was the worst I've ever tasted and a waste of money. The filling tasted and smelled like mayo and had absolutely no crab in it. I couldn't believe it... Never again. Also the customer service is always lacking the dark haired woman taking the orders is so rude and impatient to say the least. She's tried me on several occasions and I've witnessed her talk to people as tough they were a bother to her. If they weren't convenient to my job I wouldn't step foot in this establishment. Overall, this is one of those places where I'm willing to appreciate it for what it is... And what they do well. It's almost exclusively take out or delivery, so keep that in mind when you're making decisions. I'd suggest the mei fun noodles or the lo mein noodles. Or the hot and sour soup. The family who owns this place is nice, and friendly, and I've lived close by for a long time so I've watched the son grow up and start helping out instead of playing when he was younger. They're nice people. I think the mei fun noodles are the way to go. They're skinny white rice noodles. I usually get the house, that way it has a little bit of chicken, beef, shrimp, egg, veggies... Yum. I'm all over it. The lo mein is great, too. Maybe better. Lots of delicious brown sauce, and thick tasty noodles... Yep, I'm a fan. And it's pretty cheap, so just remember that. Let me start off by telling you want I desire from Chinese Take-Out Edible food (I don't question the meat I am eating.) Rice thats cooked thoroughly. Enough food so there can be left-overs the next morning;. for an affordable price. Wouldn't go as far as some people would say; this place definitely leaves a lot to be desired. Went here because there was a flyer on my door the 1st day I moved in and thought 'why not?' I knew what I was eating. I didn't get sick from after eating. So I made a new Yelp account just to tell everyone how horrible the service of this place is. I am a returning customer and I can not believe they treated me this way. I placed an order for 16 wings, some fried shrimp and a drink. The order came fast enough, but they forgot part of my order. When I called them, they told me they would compensate me what they forgot the next time I ordered. When I complained through Grubhub (the food engine I ordered from), they still refused to compensate me unless I order again. Needless to say, I will not be ordering from this place again. Food - most of the time my friends and I just order the wings, since those are the only things worth eating. They are very cheap (about as cheap as it gets) and loaded with MSG. I've tried a few of their dishes and it's about as bad as pseudo-American Chinese food can get (as a Chinese American raised on authentic Chinese food, I can honestly say Panda Express is much more delicious, if not any more authentic). Thus, don't really bother ordering anyone else since pretty much every other Asian restaurant in the vicinity can do it better. Quality - As you would expect, you get what you pay for. My expectations for this place weren't very high to begin with, so I don't have many qualms with the quality. Only major issue is the fact that they don't give a rats ass and immediately stuff the food in cheap plastic while its piping hot. Every time I order from them, the plastic box is melted (partially). Beware for health reasons. Price - Probably the only saving grace of this place is the dirt cheap price. However, considering their attitude, even that's not enough for me anymore. The hot and sour soup was cold and nasty ASF! But the entire meal was only $7.56 including tax. The lunch specials are every day of the week, but the prices are so cheap it doesn't matter when you go anyway. I ordered the General Tso lunch special! It was sooo hot(temp) that even after waiting 10 mins it still burned the roof of my mouth. The portions are HUMONGOUS! This was enough food for two large males. Customer service is good enough. The inside looks like your great grandmother's apartment home on the east side of the New Center Detroit area prior to renovation. It took less than 10 minutes to prepare the meal. So I love egg drop soup. I order it every time I get Chinese food. My problem is consistency. The dish can't possibly be that complicated, but I've had some BAD egg drop soups before. The soup here is consistently good and that makes me happy. The rest of the menu? Ehhh it's alright. Just your standard cheap Chinese delivery. Other items I've tried are hit or miss. I usually get the beef fried rice, which is just fine. I got the sweet and sour chicken a couple of times and it's just too greasy with way too much batter on the chicken. The crab rangoons are alright, although I am 99.9% sure that there is zero crab in there. It's just sweet cream cheese, which is fine with me because you get like, 12 to an order and they're cheap as shit. Service is fine. Delivery is almost always within the quoted time. The reason they get three stars instead of two (because I've definitely had better) is because the other cheap Chinese delivery joints near me are even worse. Yikes. read more

A friend lives down the street from this place, so I stopped in one evening to grab some take-out on my way over. When I walked in, I immediately thought this place could be bad news. It smelled pretty bad, and the floors, chairs and tables were shabby and dirty. After glancing at the kitchen area and seeing no customers inside, I started looking for their health rating on the wall. It was buried on the wall in obscurity (and for good reason). I asked the lady at the counter to let me read it, and that it was supposed to be posted in a way that customers could actually see. They started getting defensive and asking me if I worked for the county! She wasn't going to let me read the rating because she knew it would turn me away! This place is very shady...I felt sorry for the people who were ordering delivery from here without ever going inside the place.
