Under new management! I used to come here years ago, but over time, the food quality started to slip, so I stopped visiting. Recently, I noticed a sign saying the restaurant is under new management and decided to give it another try. The difference was immediately noticeable--it's much cleaner inside, and the woman who I believe is the new owner is friendly and communicates well in English. I ordered the Thai fried rice and the ginger stir fry, and both dishes were excellent. Fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. I'm glad I gave it another chance. I'll definitely be returning. read more

Under new management. Still a family-run shop. This hidden Chinese/Thai takeout joint is in the corner of a cluster of shops near the intersection of N Decatur and Clairmont. The small interior is clean and bright, but it is purely a place to get food to go. No in-store dining. That's fine with me. Service was fast and courteous. I was in and out in about 10 minutes. We got Mongolian Beef and Eggplant with beef. Both were good. The eggplant dish was Thai, and was the best tasting. We will be back soon. read more

As we're exiting the guy that was prepping chicken comes up front and answers the phone never acknowledging our presence. As we walked out and sat on the bench outside he just stared at us. I had a craving for Thai food at the last minute (around 8 p.m.), was about to order from Tin Drum, the I thought "wait a minute, does't Hunan Dragon have Thai? Looked at their menu, saw it was cheapter, I could get a dish and an appetizer, then I splurged a little and ordered the Choo Chee Catfish, chef's special but not much more than other dishes, and some vegetable pot stickers (only place nearby that makes them). What a feast! The fish was fresh, vegetables were right, delicious sauce, couldn't tell difference from regular Thai restaurants. Hunan Dragon is a good choice for classic, no-frills Chinese takeout. We decided to order from here on a recent Friday night because of their many tofu options, and she went with the sesame and I did the Szechuan, served with white rice. This place became THE BEST delivery option by me. I loved it. The last year or so, the quality has gone way down. Not sure if they switched cooks or what, but there is very little meat in their meat dishes and the flavors all disappeared. First time ordering for this small take out only spot. I was so pleasantly surprised with the freshness and flavor of each dish. We definitely over ordered because we were very hungry but the dishes held up their appeal the next day as well. Yes it's take out and the containers aren't the highest of quality, but no problems were experienced. The focus is clearly on the quality of the dishes. My husband and I did a blind taste test between Hunan Dragon 3 and Pyng Ho around the corner. We ordered Mu Shu Vegetable from both and then tasted them side by side. We fully expected Pyng Ho to be the winner based on restaurant appearance alone, but Hunan Dragon blew them out of the water. With new ownership, I gave HD III another shot. I dislike writing one-star reviews. And I'm glad I did. This order was far superior to what was inflicted on me previously. No evidence whatsoever of the sugar overload I experienced before. - Hunan beef is fresh tasting and vibrant. Good use of vegetables and the beef is tender. Very tasty. - Penang curry is well-balanced and also tasty. Very nice sauce. - Vegetable lo mein is a disappointment. Noodles are overcooked and the sauce is not appealing all. Tofu is good, though. Despite being in a delivery order, it retained some crispness. All three entrees are good value, with large tubs of food. I'll be happy to order again from this restaurant. Went in with Low Expectations...Left Disappointed I can handle bad service, but I draw the line at bad food. This was really bad food. I've had the gambit of Chinese food. I just wanted to find something nearby my home for basic Chinese. So I ordered Sweet and Sour Shrimp. It was like that breaded shrimp you get in the frozen food aisle at the grocery. But it tasted like it was cooked and recooked and then left sitting out. Barely room temp. Btw. Sweet and sour shrimp is suppose to be battered not breaded. Top it off. DO NOT ORDER! This is my second time ordering from them and what a horrible experience. Ordered delivery using Grubhub. Delivery came super super late, but that is not the main issue. This time, I had a huge issue with the packaging because of how flimsy it was. My general tso's tofu was at the very bottom of the bag. When I went to take everything out, the tofu had spilled all over the plastic wrapping they had outside of the container. The container itself was crushed and broken. We could not eat it so we threw it away. I had contacted Grubhub with this issue and they refunded me the whole order, even though I only requested this one item to be refunded. About an hour or so later I received a really rude call from the restaurant asking why I requested a refund. I went on to explain to them about the issue and how Grubhub was the one to decide to refund me the whole order when I had only asked for one item refund. He proceeded to argue with me that the food was fine when it left the restaurant and when it was handed to me (according to the driver). I could hear the driver cursing at me in the background (and accusing me of dropping my own food) and the caller proceeded to tell me to never order from them again. I proceeded to say that I have already decided to never order from them again based on my two experiences with them. The first time I ordered from them I had items missing and this time I had food spilled everywhere. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! For takeout, not bad but not great either. Relatively cheap but an order of Kung Pao Shrimp (with rice), 6 vegetable pot stickers and tofu vegetable soup ran about $24. I just feel a bit deprived of the full Chinese restaurant taste I used to be able to get in Atlanta. The Kung Pao shrimp were small, butterflied with the tail on which was an odd choice for this dish, and not very flavorful (like they had been frozen - kind of rubbery). The vegetables were ok, fresh but cut rather large, and no mushrooms, no bamboo shoots, and especially NO PEANUTS which is a signature part of the dish. I did not want a really hot spicy sauce but I couldn't detect any flavor of peppers in it. It did have water chestnuts, which is better than some nearby choices that have no "chinese" vegetables at all in their "chinese" dishes. Portion size - the container wasn't full and for an entree I would expect to get 2 meals, this would just be one for me if I didn't have the soup and appetizer. The tofu vegetable soup was very healthful and probably didn't have chicken broth, but the broth just wasn't very tasty. I suppose I could have added some soy sauce to it. Again, vegetable and tofu chunks a little too large - hard to get them on the spoon with broth. The one hit was those fried vegetable pot stickers. I should just order 3 orders of them and make that my meal. So, bottom line, pretty inexpensive and "not bad" but lacking in that Chinese-American flavor. Seemed to be clean and to have improved from 3-4 years ago when I said I wouldn't be back. If it could improve a little more (especially with the Thai dishes which I had previously and which needed help), I'd be eating their food once a week. read more

Solid spot for chinese/thai food. I've enjoyed their crab rangoon, veggie spring rolls, veggie egg rolls, hunan tofu, panang curry veggie & tofu... Their Pad thai is good, but a little different than traditional pad thai I've had. I still enjoyed and ate it all. Current fave dish is panang curry veggie & tofu. I've picked up before, and I saw them preparing dumplings from scratch on the counter. That was a big plus for me. The employees are friendly, and it is very clearly family-owned, which I also think is nice. Now, my favorite Chinese restaurant in Georgia is Golden Buddha, which is right down the street from here. If you haven't tried them, it's truly magnificent, and you should. The problem is that Golden Buddha's delivery is slow, cold, and soggy -- not to mention, they seem to know they are the shit, and cop a tude whenever I call in. Do NOT come here and waste your money. First of all, very small place. No place to dine in. I'm worried about hygiene because there's only a curtain between the front and the kitchen. The guy who took my order went back to prepare the meal which makes it super slow. Now the food. I ordered King Pao chicken.
