I've been meaning to check out this restaurant and finally had a chance to get dinner there today. There are a lot of people because of the World Cup, but I was able to get sat at the bar without a wait. The bartenders were very welcoming and answered all of my questions. To my surprise, they had a happy hour that went until 6pm even on a Saturday and I was able to order oysters for two dollars each and get a glass of wine for $12 so of course I ordered a dozen oysters For my entrée, I ordered the trout with black rice and succotash. The skin was crispy. It was a decent sized fillet and the sauce was a good pairing. Overall, lovely experience. I'm giving it four stars instead of five stars because there are multiple shells in a couple of the oysters. read more

The restaurant is in the same plaza as Iberian Pig and The Deer & The Dove. Parking in this area of Decatur is very limited. We usually have to circle around to find a spot, and walk to the restaurant. We came by for lunch on a Sunday. I like both the exterior and the interior design of the restaurant. The server was friendly and professional. We ordered drinks and two entrées. There was only one other table besides us, so just two tables total in the restaurant. After our drinks arrived, it took more than 45 minutes for the food to come out. The food itself was delicious. We had the half chicken and the trout. The ingredient quality is high, you can really taste it. However, the wait time was a bit too long, especially considering how empty the restaurant was. Aside from the long wait, everything else was good. I wonder if the delay was because we came shortly after they opened for lunch, but if they're open, the kitchen should be ready. Overall, the food is quite good, though the entree menu is somewhat limited, if excluding the pasta. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth trying. Personally, I'm not sure if I would come back. I'd rather not experience that long wait again, but maybe it was just an off day when I visited. read more

Why did it take me so long to visit White Bull? We wondered into White Bull with no reservations on a Friday night. Fortunately we were seated immediately and the service and ambiance was top tier. My sister and I enjoyed White Bull's Apertivo Hour and we definitely see ourselves coming back! Reservations: We made reservations; however, I'm not sure they are necessary for Apertivo Hour. There was plenty of seating when we were walked in. Parking: This spot is located in downtown Decatur, so there are a variety of paid parking options (street parking, parking decks). Make sure to read the signs as there may be free parking on Sundays. Food: We ordered so much from the menu! Our favorite was the Heirloom Tomatoes, so make sure you grab that. It paired perfectly with the Bread & Butter. We also ordered the Crispy Potatoes, the Cacio e Pepe, and the Rigatoni. We weren't the biggest fans of the Rigatoni. There was what we think were raisins in there, which really threw things off. Drinks: There are so many options from cocktails to wine to beer. We both opted for aperitifs and enjoyed them! Was in town for a conference and this restaurant was recommended by a staff at our hotel. I looked at on yelp and saw all the reviews! Yes we must go there. A quick walk and we arrived, such a cute and welcoming restaurant, we didn't have a reservation but they seated us promptly. After we told our waitress that it was our first time (I think her name is Kindra? She was amazing!) chef Pat came over and greeted us! You can just feel the love he had for cooking so we knew we were at the right place and in for a treat. We asked for recommendations so we started off with the bread and butter (all made fresh, even the butter). A must! Crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, amazing smell of rosemary and the butter, I have no words. We also got the shrimp, another outstanding dish, and the beets and berries (love loved it). For entree we knew we wanted the black spaghetti, and had asked the chef to surprise for the other two pasta dish, one was the CAPPELLETTI (my favorite pasta dish for this trio) and I don't remember the 3rd one which was also delicious. For dessert we were told from the other Pat that his wife was the pastry chef and we must order the biscuit and gravy (lemon ice cream with raspberry sauce), the birds and the bees which is a chocolate dessert (chocolate with hazelnut ganache), and the Pavlov's law. My favorite was the biscuit and gravy, so light and the combination was insane! We had two bottles of wine, everyone was so nice there! Absolutely loved our experience there and had the best food. first for my gluten free gals - pastas can be made gluten free with their gf pasta + small tweaks, and the chicken dish is gf. The crispy potatoes in the appetizer list don't have breading of any kind BUT are fried in a shared fryer! so as for our visit here last night, I'll start by saying service was great. Our waitress gave me a great description of the red wine choices bc I wasn't familiar with the names/types on the menu other than the cab. She also apologized for the wait when our food came out, but it hadn't even been that long! She was so friendly and really helpful in guiding me thru the menu to pick a safe gf meal. the restaurant itself is beautiful with hardwood everywhere and dim lighting, warm and cozy vibe with close set tables along the walls. for the food, I got the chicken and my husband got the rigatoni. I was a little disappointed with the chicken because the skin was fairly wet/soggy and not crispy like I expected, BUT I have to give major credit for the polenta + broccolini served with it. absolutely the best broccolini I've ever had; it was crispy, salty, served with soft warm garlic. truly chefs kiss! my husband liked his rigatoni a LOT but the only downside was it wasn't hot when it was served, we assumed this was bc the waitress had warned us that the chicken takes a little while so maybe it was sitting while they finished the chicken. 4/5 stars for our experience with both ups and downs. Came here for a 5 course meal with The Tasting Collective. Everything I had was delicious. The rigatoni did not need the sultanas. The trout could have had a more crispy skin. Came here from out of town and wanted a nice meal before heading home. I wanted to start off with a Cabernet however their wine selection is very limited but my wonderful bartender and server, Grayson, offered me a taste of two different ones and chose what was closest to my liking. For my appetizer I went with the kale salad which I felt wasn't tender enough for a salad and the dressing was very sparse but was given more when requested. For the entrée I went with the pasta of confit chicken and sweet potato, very light, delicate and quite different from what you see and it was a really nice dish, taste and portion wise. After jealously looking at people rave about the White Bull on social media, I am so happy to FINALLY try them myself. My friend and I came here on a Friday night for dinner. We had reservations, but thankfully it wasn't very crowded. Our server (forget her name) was fantastic! She gave great recommendations about the menu and was very patient as we contemplated the menu. We decided to share two starters: the crispy potatoes with garlic aioli and rosemary Parmesan bread with whipped butter. The potatoes were very good, but that bread??!! Jesus, it was amazing! I could have eaten the entire roll by myself lol. For entrees, I ordered the black spaghetti and my friend ordered the half chicken with polenta. The fresh garlic and herbs they used to cook our meals made all of the difference in the flavor. Everything was just perfectly cooked. Surprisingly, I do think the chicken was the star! If you want unique flavors in both drink and food you need to come here. I ordered the Cavatelli but more about that later. The bartender Grayson is a master of his craft. I recommend telling him what you like and letting him craft a custom cocktail for you. This is the beginning of being pampered here and I highly recommend this. He made me drinks I have never heard of and with tastes I have not yet experienced. I will post I pic of the ingredients to show you. I ordered their home baked Sfincione bread to start. Spread the butter on this 72 hour bread and you will be absolutely delighted. I took the rest to go for my breakfast with coffee the next morning. The Cavatelli arrived and I loved it. The lamb combined with hazelnuts, horseradish and feta were an absolute pleasure to my taste buds. Lamb, when cooked right is absolutely delicious and you will miss out if you do not try this dish. The manager Scott checked on my often to make sure everything was great, and I really appreciate this type of service that is not found in most restaurants. Bottom line, if you want amazing pampering, great food and drink, it's hard to miss with the White Bull. Our family went here a few weeks back for my mother's birthday and the service was beyond exceptional! The whole crew had even signed a happy birthday letter (never experienced this before, was very happy) and gave us a little slice of celebratory cake, they were so incredibly sweet!! Fine dining so that means $$$$$, certainly expensive however food was delicious. We probably will not return because of prices however was a great experience. It's hard to spit anywhere in Decatur without hitting a solid restaurant. On nearly every block, there seems to be another restaurant offering up fantastic plates of food. But when I offered to treat my best friend to a birthday dinner, White Bull was one of her top choices so I was eager to find out why. Making a reservation is a cinch through OpenTable, and you can reserve both dining times and location (either indoors or in their beautiful covered outdoor space). If the weather is mild, dining out on the backspace is a fine option. Service is excellent here. We first found this out when we were seated at an outdoor table and my friend was hit with a sudden wave of allergies. Our server uncomplainingly moved us to an indoor spot, which turned out to be just as fine because the restaurant is so cozy and intimate. Our server swung by our table the exact right number of times to take orders, bus empty plates, and offer trustworthy recommendations when we became indecisive about our order. Best yet, no one here seemed to bat an eye when I inquired about their gluten-free options. Our server kindly went so far as to mark up my menu to clarify safe choices and possible substitutions. The bread and butter appetizer is clearly a hit here. I spotted one of these boards on every single table around us, and I was positively salivating as I listened to the satisfying crunch coming from our little bread loaf as my friend sliced into one. The fried potato wedge appetizer was cooked to perfection, with crispy edges and a pillowy inside. The sauce poured atop them had a slightly bitter aftertaste, but the texture of this dish made up for it in spades. The sun hit the wall right when we sat down, and for a brief moment I thought, this is how people with their lives together eat dinner. By six it was lively. By six thirty it was packed, which is always comforting. The service was genuinely excellent. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful without hovering. They appeared when needed and vanished when not, like a benevolent restaurant ghost. The wine by the glass was... meh. Not bad. Not memorable. Just there, doing its job, like a beige cardigan. There were maybe five or six choices, all perfectly acceptable, all destined to be forgotten the moment the glass was empty. The menu was short, too, which I did like. I appreciate a chef who focuses on what's available and what he or she can do well. The food was good. Savory, well executed, clearly made with care. Nothing was wrong. Next we had the duck confit. This was a little different than I expected, but I enjoyed the lightly dressed greens on the side of the rich and crispy duck. Next was a cheese filled pasta with a deep and flavorful brodo. We finished with the seared fish served over farro. The pasta was by far my favorite dish of the evening. My hubby had the Gnudi, which featured a flavorful shrimp bisque over fresh gnocchi-like pasta with chunks of lobster. He cleaned his plate!!!! I had the squid ink pasta that was in a sauce of chorizo, some spicy tomato based purée and fresh shrimp. It was absolutely delicious! My only feedback about the entrees was that the protein to pasta ratio was insufficient, but the effort put into the flavor profiles of the menu offerings was very thoughtful! My mom and I came here off of a recommendation. Reservations can be made online so I wanted to play on the safe side by making them just in case. However, only outdoor seating was available but upon arriving, I did see that there wouldn't have been an issue for indoor or outdoor at 6 pm on a Saturday. I thought her pasta tasted different from the Italian food I've had but it was still tasty. As a fan of pasta being cooked al dente, I did find it to be a little too undercooked for my preference. Crispy chicken was not as crispy by the time it got to me as they did pour the flavorful sauce directly on top. Chicken was tender and moist and I liked the smoothness of the polenta. Rosemary was a nice touch but can taste very bitter on its own. Overall, we had a good experience with our very kind waiter who's name I believe to be was Niko? Food was satisfying enough but I would be more interested in trying one of the many other beautiful establishment so close by. So so excited to try White Bull!! It has been on my list for forever because of the amazing happy hour and it did not disappoint. We did make a reservation as a just in.l case but definitely would have been okay to walk in. We came at 5:30 on a Wednesday! Parking is also free after 6 but definitely there isn't a lot. We had to street park across the street. We also caught their wine Wednesday deal where every bottle of wine under $100 was 50% off! So we started with the 2017 sauvignasse. We did do the aperitivo hour and got burrito and prosciutto which were $8 each and delicious!! We also sfaccooione which came with butter and was great with burrata. Even better, $10 pastas! Portions are generous and happy hour is the best way to do this place and it goes till 6pm which isn't super early if you're a late dinner person like me.
