Lunch is until 4PM I really enjoyed the hot & sour soup and the crispy fried crunchies (lol idk what they're called) and the Hunan chicken was delicious savory and 1% sweetness. The hot oil was medium spicy which is perfect. Food came out piping hot. Hot tea is complimentary at this time they give you a cup and steel pot yet I didn't have a cup myself. In good conscience, I tried to give it a 2, but could not! I ordered the very expressive Pupu platter for 24.50 and Moo shu pork. Spent over $40 for one person. I used to eat here every few weeks for lunch- but never again! Pupu platter consisted of 2 crab Rangoon - they were okay- 2 weird spare ribs: tiny dry things - 2 egg rolls: mushy vegetables? Not even sure about that- couldn't eat them! 2 dry shrimp- and 2 not bad fried chicken wings. Moo shu pork has non- existent pork, just more mushy vegetables. Do not recommend! We ordered spicy garlic shrimp and it was sweet not garlicky nor a bit of spice. Singapore noodles tasted good but it was given in a styrofoam containers that were scorched from the heat of the noodles, when we got them the container had a hole and some of noodles fell out. Their sizzling, rice, soup, their wonton soup, and their egg drop soup are still delicious and have been for many years now. This place offers up a lot of nostalgia for me because I grew up just a couple miles down the road and remember coming here often after church. Today I met up with the fam for church in their neck of the woods and we wanted to take a stroll down memory lane. There's not a whole lot going on in this little strip mall in Lawrenceville. The old Walmart has been turned into The Lawrenceville Health Center and there are tons of empty retail spaces. Hong Kong Garden has managed to stay open and its likely due to their friendly service and great prices. The lunch menu offers plenty of options all for around seven bucks. From 11 AM to 4 PM their lunch menu includes your main entrée, your choice of soup, a chicken wing, an eggroll and fried rice. I ordered the general tso's chicken and the egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was pretty bland (which is sometimes why others love this particular soup), but I ended up throwing in some of the crunchy wontons and a little of the spicy mustard in it to give a kick. The general tso's chicken was definitely missing the spice. I saw the chili flakes in the sauce but I just wasn't catching a bite. The fried rice was not really what I was expecting, as it was more just your basic rice which I ended up drowning in a combination of the red sweet and sour sauce and the spicy mustard. The chicken wing and egg roll we're pretty good, nothin' fancy. Overall it was just A-OK. Quick friendly service and you get a good meal for what you pay. I wouldn't drive out-of-the-way but again the spot has been a place we have visited over the past 20-ish years so sometimes you just wanna go back. read more

I must say that I haven't had any Hunan shrimp in over 2 decades. I could never find a restaurant that could do it. No one has ever advertised it on their menu. Then I ran into this place on Grubhub and saw they had Hunan Shrimp. My taste buds started to jump for joy. I then put my order in for the Hunan shrimp. I was hoping that I received the same flavor that I was used to over 20 years ago. My order came after about 50 minutes and I dug in!! Oh my!! I missed the spicy taste and the baby corn that comes in this dish and I had it all. Every vegetable that I craved was in this dish and it brought back so many memories for me. Of course I had to get some egg drop soup and some spring rolls to top it off. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that they didn't do substitutions and just charge you the difference. I didn't want the steamed rice, I wanted to substitute that for lomein. No dice!! I would have had to pay an additional $10-12 for the lomein alone which was another full meal by itself. This place has been in the same location for over 25 years. The good news is that the food is still just as delicious and reasonably-priced as I remember it being in high school. The bad news is I'm pretty sure the decor and those booths are original! It's time for an update inside, but if it's part of what keeps this yummy food staying a bit less than comparable restaurants, I'll continue to sit in old booths and eat favorites! Confession time: I wasn't expecting much at all when I stopped into Hong Kong Garden. It's your typical Chinese restaurant in the strip mall anchored by a grocery store (Kroger in this instance). I found myself pleasantly surprised by a few tasty dishes on my plate. I ordered off of their lunch menu (11am to 4pm) and ordered their Beef Lo Mein ($5.75). The lo mein had nice thick noodles, generous portions of sliced beef, and you occasionally found a veggie or two, in the form of an onion, carrot or piece of celery. The beef wasn't tough or chewy, and while the veggies were a little over cooked, nothing about the Lo mein was greasy and that goes a long way with me. All lunch menu items come with an egg roll, chicken wing, and fried rice, but I expected only the Chicken wing and egg roll because I ordered Lo mein. I was pretty surprised to find that they gave me fried rice right next to my Lo mein. Double starch to the rescue! I wont lie to you, the egg roll was nothing special, but the chicken wing was decent. The fried rice was a bare bones nothing in it fried rice, so while it wasn't amazing, it really wasn't anything other than, well, rice. One thing I found weird was they do sell 6pc orders of wings in various flavors, but they would not sell me braised wings in 6pc form. They only came in 8pc dinner form (or as another lunch meal). Hong Kong Garden is decent enough, and for their price it's a solid lunch spot on the cheap, that will have a few heroes as well as a zero or two on your plate...but that's kinda par for the course in these places. read more

The food is fresh, we love the staff, the restaurant is dated but clean. We could eat at plenty of chinese restaurants near us, but we love Hong Kong gardens. Don't order through Grubhub. The driver will not call you and keep the order and Grubhub will only give u 50% back. So if you spend $100 you only get $50 on your next order and still no food. Worst chinese I've ever had. I had high hopes after spending $18 for my sesame chicken and fried rice, however, the breading on the sesame chicken just tastes like pure flour. And the texture is odd. The fried rice just looks like white rice covered in soy sauce and they forgot my egg roll. The woman in the front was nice and apologized and gave it to me after I drove back to get it. I have eaten at Hong Kong Garden for close to 20 years. When it changed owners I we had a bad experience with poor service and upset stomachs. Recently we tried it again because it is close to home. Today we got Sesame chicken, egg drop soup, fried wings and fried rice. The chicken was all batter and tough. The egg drop soup was watered down and the noodles were stale. The fried wings were stuffed in a little bag and were soggy. The fried rice had no peas or carrots and no flavor. Guess we are back to driving to MahJong. read more

Yeah... we've been here a few times just so we can say we gave them a shot, but alas, no more shots for you !! Seated quickly but slow service from then on. They are doing something right because the place was full of diners every time we've been there. It has occurred to me that being the only restaurant in the area serving what they serve is very likely the reason for this. Cheap eats fairly quick draws diners, a no-brainer. Food is beyond basic with little or no flavor. Fried rice is just that. Rice tossed in a wok for a second and then on a plate. Nothing added other than oil and soy. Ordered won ton soup and was served a very small bowl of broth and ONE won ton (no filling). Some napa cabbage thrown in for color and all for $2.95 which I thought had to be a mistake. It wasn't. The won ton chips were stale and greasy. Not good. We're not returning so I'll end this review with this message: eat here if you've got no where else to go but I'd not recommend it. read more

When we come to Lawrenceville, this is our fav place for Asian cuisine. Consistently good for many years in a row , we are never disappointed here. Tonight we had the orange chicken , combo fried rice and Mongolian beef. All three choices were flavorful , cooked to perfection and simply delicious. In the past, we also have enjoyed their egg based pancakes with veggies and chicken, and their orange beef is delicious . We have a relative who lives locally, and he told us about this place . Even when our relative is not in town , we make an effort to eat here when we pass through town , or when we stay in or near Lawrenceville. This food is truly delicious, and the prices are very fair . We have been coming to this restaurant for well over 15 years, and the food quality and taste is the reason we will return the next time we are here. It's very delicious ! read more

Use to dine in and get take out a lot from here. Hadn't been in a while because it seemed to be on a down slope and the food wasn't the way it used to be. And that still seems to be the case. Tonight I ordered take out. We had egg drop soup which was back to being great again. The rest was eh. We had sesame chicken which was bland and soggy and extremely thin. The Lo mein was over cooked and I've had better fried rice from the frozen isle at the grocery store. I was really hoping things had gotten better.
