This pains me to write. Hong Kong Inn has always been a great place with great food. But in the last year, they have really gone down hill. The food taste off and old. The chicken in the chow mein tasted off and was slimy. We also had sweet and sour chicken and it tasted spoiled. The pot stickers were ok, but extremely over cooked. Everyone who ate at our table got bad food poisoning. On the plus side, takeout is pretty quick and you get a discount if you pay cash. We usually order from Wonderful Chinese but we couldn't get through on the phone tonight so decided to try this place out & so happy we did. Our food was ready in 15 minutes and the ladies were super nice. Prices were very reasonable & they offer a 10% discount if you pay by cash. If you want to eat here right now I would order to go we stopped by and tried to eat inside and it is just not ready for diners the place is tore up I'm actually surprised the health department allowed them to open up inside. We did get a table and set there for a half an hour looking at the menu and they never even came to take over so we just got up and left. I have been to this restaurant a few times. Our go-to Chinese restaurant is closed on Monday's, so I thought I would try this restaurant again. Bottom line: The food was terrible! First, I had ordered Egg Foo Young for my mom and ended up getting Chow Mein. The noodles were very thick and resembled spaghetti noodles. My mom said that there was no flavor, as well. Surprisingly solid Chinese food. We weren't expecting to find many Asian options in Placerville (there weren't), but it was a particularly stormy day that we passed through and when we saw Hong Kong Inn pop up on Yelp we decided to give it a try. It's a mix of some authentic Chinese dishes and some more Americanized dishes, with enough options to meat the needs of either palate. The hot and sour soup really hit the spot for us on such a cold day. All of the dishes were well portioned for the price. Honestly, the food hit the spot and given that we had fairly low expectations we were super satisfied. Our Christmas eve tradition like many other Americans across the Country is going out to a Chinese restaurant! We had just recently moved up to the Placerville area so we didn't have "our place" yet, but I think we found it! We arrived to the restaurant at about 6:15 and they were pretty busy with a mix of dine-in and to-go orders. We were seated pretty quickly in a booth and drink orders taken. Going to Chinese and doing it family style, most people already have their favorite plates they order. We got the usuals of hot and sour soup, eggrolls, potstickers, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, broccoli beef, and decided to try their "tangerine" chicken which was delicious! A bit tangy-er than orange chicken and a little more spice in my opinion. Everything was so good. It took a little long for the food to start coming out because of it being busy, but they were apologetic and once it started coming, they came out quick! We had tons of leftovers, enough for a while second meal for 2 and 5yo! Definitely will return even though there are closer Chinese restaurants to us, this place surpasses them! read more

I'm not sure how the quality could have gone down so badly in just less than one year. I would have given them four stars when we moved here May 2023. We just ordered the imitation crab cream cheese wonton appetizer, lemon chicken, broccoli beef, & chicken chow mein. Honestly, I literally had to spit out the appetizer and broccoli into my napkin. The crab was beyond inedible, and the broccoli head was so soggy and slimy. The lemon chicken barely had flavor and I didn't even try the chow mein. One of the better Chinese Restaurants in Placerville. Food is tasty and plentiful - but this is not a gourmet restaurant, just good food at a good price and servings are plentiful. Ok know here is my RANT- this more of a generalized problem for all Chinese Restaurant- Lately every Chinese restaurant I go to all of won ton soups broths are just bland/tasteless. I have been on a warpath trying to find a good solid tasting broth. Did the supplier of previous ore made broths go out of business? Damn make your own broth and dip the chicken 3x...lol FYI - HK Inn won ton soup is better than most but still not meeting l my expectations. This place for sure is the BEST, not one of the best, the BEST Chinese restaurant I've been too. They were quick to serve a family of 8. They had amazing service with generous portions. Had a great sense of humor and most importantly the food was delicious and spectacular. I would highly recommend coming here if you're ever in town and need a quick place to eat at. We ordered Orange chicken, Mongolian beef, shrimp w spicy garlic, veggie chow fun, veggie chow mein, wonton soup, potsticker(HIGHLY RECOMMEND), and fried rice. Everything was 10/10 great flavor. The main thing I wanted to point out was that the orange chicken there is actually amazing. I usually don't like ordering that at other places because it's usually soggy and sweet. This orange chicken had a great balance of sweet and spicy. On top of that it was real crispy! This place is a MUST. We came in at 8:50. Posted business hours are until 9:30. We walked in, I went to the restroom, came out and sat down at the table my husband got for us. The waitress immediately came up to me and asked me what I wanted. I hadn't even opened the menu (still taking my purse off and getting seated). I asked for a few more minutes and she got mad and told me we had to be done ordering and eating by 9:15 because she lives in Sacramento. I said, "you guys are open until 9:30". She said no. They close at 9:00 and clean up and leave at 9:15. I didn't really care because I was hungry and figured I would eat fast. Plus, we have been coming here for 20+ years and know the food comes out fast. Not only was she so worried about us ordering quickly, but she didn't listen and got my order wrong. When I told her it was wrong she got mad all over again. When our correct food came out, all of the staff also sat down to enjoy a meal at a table together too. They were talking and relaxing. Why do I have to hurry through a meal if the staff is going to sit down at 9pm and eat too? We actually finished our meals before them. In addition to the rude service. We also got a show from the rude lady's son. He was pushing the hand sanitizer dispenser, dispensing sanitizer into his hands so that he can whip his hands around and throw it against the wall. When he got bored of that he decided to go to the front door and slap the bells around for the duration of our meal. I am not convinced this was HIS idea. He appeared to be about 8-9 years old and probably knew better. This was a sad experience. We knew they close at 9:30 and are always respectful of closing hours. We planned on being fast. But after 20+ loyal years of coming here, we were treated like crap. I will no longer be coming here.
