Hong Kong Restaurant for a good Chinese dinner win! I've had such a craving for fried rice and my husband wanted General Tso's chicken. It's been a tough lately since our go to place changed ownership and the quality declined. Hong Kong Restaurant is a small, family owned restaurant in the same strip mall as the Ace Hardware. It's a take out only restaurant, no tables and no seating. The lady is so nice. I called ahead asking how her General Tso's was made with brown sauce or if it was an orange type of sauce. She gave me a good description and mentioning it had some spice to it, but not offensive. It was exactly what my husband wanted. It wasn't overly breaded and the sauce was sweeter, savory with a little heat. He was a happy man. The fried rice had plenty of chicken and cooked well. The portions were huge! I also ordered beef and broccoli Cantonese chow mein. This was delicious! There was so much beef and broccoli, the sauce wasn't salty and went perfect with the chow mein noodles. We ordered egg rolls and crab rangoons too. Both we were good. The wrapper was a little thicker than I prefer, but they were both good. Last night we ordered some takeout food from Hong Kong Restaurant in Arlington Heights. It was our first time ordering from them and it was delicious! For several years now, we have been looking for a new Chinese food place , since our favorite place (South China) closed. I have tried several other places, but we have not been very happy with the food. Last night we had the BBQ pork egg foo young and kung pao beef. Both dishes were tasty. We also ordered some Pot Stickers, which were tasty but were HUGE and the dough, I felt , was too thick. This might be just a personal preference. Overall I thought it was a great experience. The food portions were large and the cost was in line with what you would expect. The food was ready on time and was piping hot. I will definitely be coming back to Hong Kong Restaurant. read more

They have not updated their prices or pictures of food here. I ordered the General Tso chicken and beef chow mein over the phone for takeout. The cost should have come out to $28 with two orders of egg rolls. When I ordered they said that they no longer had small size which was ok I guess but when I picked up my food the cost came out to be $45.39. There no way that a larger size costs that much and they don't have a website to check prices, just the menu posted on here. The food came out subpar from the pictures and this was very overpriced. I will not be ordering again and was disappointed in the service which felt like a bait and switch from what was presented here on Yelp. read more

Amazing food! Definitely a golden gem tucked away in Arlington Heights. You can't beat the prices anywhere else in the area and the people are always kind. I've only found this place about 6 months ago but I stay going back to be amazed by every new dish I try. 10 out of 10 recommend if looking for delicious authentic take out whether in the area or not. Since China Kitchen has closed we tried Hong Kong. Overpriced and not very tasty. The egg rolls were crispy which we like but no taste.

A hole in the wall for some traditional Americanized Chinese food. I came here for the egg rolls and Wu did not disappoint. Egg rolls were nice and crispy on the outside, pork, cabbage, perfect flavor combo for the inside. I also got the chicken fried rice, top notch! Great price, the food did not disappoint. Hong Kong is the typical take out only Chinese place with good solid food that is getting somewhat hard to find these days. The person at the counter was very nice, made ordering a pleasure. They really stuff a large portion of food into the containers- a "small" order is really two meals for the average person. The only negative I can think of is that they do not have a lighted sign- I had been to this plaza several times and never noticed that they were even there. It's a pity because I would think a lighted sign might just get them more business. Well worth trying if you have a taste for Chinese take out. read more

I placed order and it took an hour and 1/2 to get the order. I asked for extra sweet and sour sauce, which was provided. There was 1 scallop and not one baby corn in the happy family. It was tasty but way too much broccoli and not a fair share of meat. The shrimp chop suey was delicious and had a good amount of shrimp. The shrimp was cooked too perfection. The egg rolls were a bit small but they were very flavorful and delicious. I will order from them again, just not the happy family, as that was a disappointment. My husband and I ordered takeout from here for the first time and we enjoyed our food! The General Tso's Chicken was very crispy and flavorful! I also enjoyed their fried rice. Absolutely LOVE Hong Kong Restaurant! They have always been incredibly attentive to their customers, and passionate about their food, for many years now. This has been apparent ever since we (as a family/extended family) first started ordering from them. Even when we order different items other than our "norm", they still recognize my dad when he goes to pick up the food. That type of familiarity is always appreciated in a neighborhood restaurant. The staff is also incredibly observant of any substitutions or changes on standard orders. We, as a family, love this since certain members need to be gluten free or other restrictions etc and Hong Kong has zero problems accommodating that. It is wonderful! Honestly, I could go on and on, but all you really need to know is that you will NOT be disappointed when you order from here... and will soon be made to feel like family from the staff! Hong Kong is my families go-to Chinese in the AH area. We typically order a bunch of entrees & split with some egg rolls & crab Rangoon on the side. The egg rolls are very big & delicious! The crab rangoon has the right amount of cream cheese filling & the outer crust is perfectly flakey. The downside is that they rarely have crab Rangoon (& many noodle dishes) when we call...this has happened more times than not, so you think they would have adjusted those logistics by now. We like to jump around with our main course dishes. Some of our favorites are the chicken chop suey, chicken fried rice, & Mongolian beef. Only reason they don't have 4 stars is due to the consistency of unavailable entrees & side dishes. read more

Ordered for a takeout with my boyfriend for a car date dinner in the evening. Went to pick up and they didn't give any utensils. So my boyfriend went and asked for forks and spoons, they just locked their door but instead of just giving it normally, they gave it through the mail slot. That's not the worst part, we were sitting in the parking lot to eat the food, soon enough cop came. They called the cops on us!! Ridiculous!!! Is that how you treat a paying customer? we didn't even get to eat our food and it ruined our appetite. The cop went to talk with them so I went to their door to, told them to take back their food since I didn't touch it. They wouldn't. Absolutely horrible experience! Food flavor is 2.5 stars. Quantity is 4 stars. The noodles were too bland and lacking in vegetables. Beef quality was ok. The orange chicken pieces were big but breaded and soggy instead of crispy because they are soaking in 5-times too much sauce. I hoped this would be good given other reviews but it was just ok. Everything was just too wet and soggy. Not enough veggie options but the veggie fish we did get was not crisp fresh veggies; they were also more soupy and saucy. Went there for the first time trying this local place . First option we wanted to order they didn't have half the stuff to make. They then proceeded to tell us a list of other food they didn't have,some of which we wanted and seemed put out with us waiting to fig out what we wanted since our first choices they didn't have. After finding something they had they told us about 45 min it seemed a little long but were ok waiting. Went back to get it and went to pay with a card but they asked a few times if we had cash instead. We got home started to eat and the orange chicken was way over sauced it was not a great taste)and deeply breaded with several super hard pieces of chicken that weren't even edible. This place was recommended to me by one of my Customers. I have been ordering from here weekly for the past 5 months. I am very selective with my choices when it comes to Chinese/Cantonese restaurants. Not many left that prepared dishes the "old way". The food here is consistant 100% of the time. This little hole in the wall actually has some pretty good food. I only got take out from here because for some reason my grandpa loves this place. So I decided to try it. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and my grandpa ordered the beef chop suey because he loves it from there. I called it in and it was ready in 10 mins! The lady working there was nice. Yes this is a very small take-out only restaurant. Yes they charge normal restaurant price. Yes it worth every penny. We just moved in to this neighborhood not very long ago and trying to look for some local easy dinner the other day. I was discouraged a little bit when I saw the size of the restaurant. But the food was surprisingly delicious. We tried orange chicken and beef chop suey. Chicken was a little bit over sweet for our taste but very crunchy and chunky which we love. Beef was very tender and flavorful. Also the owners are very friendly and pleasant. I personally believe this place is a solid 4 stars or even 4.5 and I do recommend everyone who likes real Chinese food come here and give it a try.
