On St Pattys day, I was craving for some Chinese food. I was close to ordering from the locals here in Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg...$$$. I ordered the beef fried rice to go. It tasted good and had big pieces of tender beef. What was a little disappointing was that they don't put any scrambled egg or vegetables in it like in the past. Very little onion so it was kind of bland. I sautéed some onion, broccoli and scrambled egg and added it to the leftovers. It was really tasty after I added my own touch. The egg rolls were decent. This is a review of my terrible experience in January 2025. When I ordered takeout from here online, I specified in THREE SEPARATE PLACES to not add any eggs to the meal, as I am vegan (see attached screenshot). But after driving home, I was horrified to see that they had put eggs in the fried rice (see attached photo). I immediately called them to complain, expecting that they would either refund or offer to deliver the correct order to my house for free (as I have been in a similar situation before where a restaurant offered to refund or deliver my correct order for free after screwing up and adding dairy to my takeout order). However, they told me that they could not refund my order because I ordered online, and also they refused to deliver the correct order for free (even though I was only 10-minutes driving distance away). They then dismissed my complaint by saying that the fried rice was "only two dolla", not understanding that this is not just a financial issue but a serious ethical issue for me as well. Also, the rest of my meal (Sesame Tofu) was the most mediocre Chinese food I've ever had, so it was not able to redeem this crappy restaurant in any way. Visited on a Saturday late afternoon. Neat and tidy dining room serviced very effectively by friendly hostess/waitress. She did not miss a thing while servicing tables and considerable take out business. Egg rolls were so good we ordered them again. Deep fried perfectly with a very subtle peanut butter groove. Very generous entrees with a refreshing emphasis on fresh vegetables and a bit lighter sauces. Sesame honey chicken was tender and delicious accompanied by crisp broccoli and carrot shoestring. We have lived in the area for four years and had tried this restaurant many times. About 6 months ago we had had it. The owner was nasty about something and we were done. So 6 months have gone by and we went back. First of all, the dining room is open for the first time since Covid. Second, the food was INCREDIBLE. Admittedly we only had hot and sour soup, won ton soup, Pot stickers, Mongolian Shrimp and Chicken with Pan Fried Noodles. I swear that everything was shockingly amazing. We spoke to the NEW OWNER for a while and she is really sweet and very accommodating. She and her husband run the show and he is a great chef. I hope people in the area will stop by there. This has been my go-to place for Chinese takeout when I'm in the area ever since. The menu is similar to what you'd find at any mom & pop Chinese place, but here the food has been consistently very high quality and delicious. You get a huge quantity for the price. My wife and I was in the area and was craving some Chinese food. We came in and tried the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and Beef Chop Suey. My wife had the soup and it did not disappoint. The beef was tender and the soup was spicy to help with the cold day. The bok choy was crunchy with was cooked just right. As for the chop suey, I got it with fried noodles for the crunch. It was absolutely delicious! The portion was so big I had some to go. I loved the assortment of veggies and the tender cuts of beef. I would definitely be back again. We were so disappointed to learn that Absolutely Chinese is closing at the end of November 2023. We are regular take-out patrons, finding this one of the best and most consistent Chinese Restaurants in our area (Palatine, IL). Technically, I think they are in Rolling Meadows, but the location is only a few miles from our home. We've tried so many items on their menu over the years, I can't remember them all. I don't ever remember a bad or, below standard meal from them. If you are in the area, do them and yourselves a favor and order from them before they close permanently. We learned today that they already closed the restaurant and only do take-out business. For tonight, we had Hot and Sour Soup, Pork Fried Rice, Curry Chicken, Pork Chow Fun, and Hunan Green Beans. Maybe since it could be the last time we order from there, or maybe they want to go out with a bang, but the food was better than I remember. In particular, the Pork Fried Rice had enormous chunks of BBQ Pork. Even so, the Curry Chicken was tastier than normal. I didn't have much of the Chow Fun (since there was so much else) so can't comment on that, but other that ate it, said it was very good. The Hot and Sour Soup was a good as unual. Used to be very very good. Then owners changed hands a year ago & there went the quality. Egg rolls nothing but shredding cabbage & perhaps one krill shrimp & a small nugget of mystery meat-pork? Couldn't tell as it was minuscule, dried out and tasteless. Mushy, canned vegetables; gelatinous inedible beef; tough dry white meat chicken. All drowning in thick pasty cornstarch gravy. Starvation is preferable. Threw everything away & made frozen chicken potstickers & rice a Robo which tasted downright savory in comparison. read more

I believe they changed management as of this year. I am not here to say anything bad. Every new management needs time to learn, adjust and grow. We ordered some usual Chinese food. Egg drop soup, fried rice and chow fun. I wanted to say the soup does not disappoint. However the chow fun was so sloppily made that I needed to express my discontent. Basically the noodles were still sticking to each other and not split apart when cooking in the brown sauce (basically look like a layered cake). I had to split it myself and reheat it on the stove. The noodles were half white and half brown so I added the soya sauce packet the restaurant gave to harmonize the color and taste. The place looks clean and the service was nice. Absolutely Chinese is a long-time restaurant in Rolling Meadows but is under new ownership. Covid proved too much for the original owners. The food was always very good here and the new ownership continues that tradition. Most of their business continues to be carry out but they do offer dine-in service now. As for the service, it was friendly and prompt. The hostess came by many times to offer water and to make sure we were happy with our food. The restaurant is a good size and offers a warm, inviting atmosphere to dine in. They offer lunch specials under $9. It's my hope that people will start dining in at Absolutely Chinese again so they will continue to service the Rolling Meadows / Palatine area for years to come. read more

If you are going for ambiance and modern decor this is not your place. However, if you are going for fresh and really good Chinese food, run don't walk here. The husband and wife team who own and do every job there put out a quality product. Having tried most of the Chinese places in the area, this is my #1 or #2 (Munch Inn in Prospect Heights is the other). Every dish I have tried has been amazing. I have probably been there six or seven times since discovering it under newer ownership earlier this year. All of the standards are good. Their shrimp filled wonton soup, chicken with veggies, and fish with ginger and scallions are standouts. They also have very reasonably priced lunch specials. For $2 extra they will substitute either plain fried rice or pan fried noodles. The plain fried rice isn't worth it. However, having your dish over pan fried noodles is a game changer and I strongly recommend it. Parking is plentiful and the place is always spotless. They do a huge carry out business but I prefer to dine in. read more

Order a lunch special of Mongolian Beef and pot stickers for 19 dollars and change for pickup. The lunch special came in a very small package about the size of a store-bought TV dinner. The Mongolian chicken was like they cut a quarter of a small chicken breast into thin slices and poured some soy sauce on it. When it was all said and done it was like literally about 3 tablespoons of Chicken. Fried rice had no meat and only scrambled egg in it. I added an egg roll which was 1.50 extra. Pot stickers were decent size, but the inside mixture of the mystery meat was just extremely mushy with not much flavor. I think I most disappointed by the egg roll. They are exactly like the long skinny eggrolls you buy in the frozen food section at the grocery store. I'd almost guarantee they buy frozen eggrolls and throw them in the fryer. I get that inflation is up and costs are up, but when you raise prices and lower food quality then you end up with less business. Which is why I was the only person in the place while I waited 15 minutes for them to cook my to-go lunch order. read more

I thought this would be an American style AYCE Chinese buffet and was pleasantly surprised to find it to be a mom and pop dine-in restaurant. I think they do offer a lunch buffet on weekdays, but it wasn't available when I went for dinner on Saturday night. The cuisine is Hunan and Schezwan, which is really spicy and evident when my bf ordered the Hunan chicken "medium spicy", and it set my mouth on fire. :o He likes heat in his food though, so he gobbled up his dish happily. I ordered a fish filet with vegetables, hoping for a lighter and healthier dish, and to my dismay, the fish came out breaded and deep fried. :( So much for getting healthy food. But the flavor was really good, and I thoroughly enjoyed it with the big bowl of white rice that came on the side. The portion was also large enough so I had leftovers for lunch the next day--and it was still delicious reheated in the microwave the next day. :) read more

The restaurant is Spacious enough for large parties yet was perfect for our dinner date. I LOVE the lady that greeted us. She made jokes and asked questions about us. Re-opened with new owners. Carry out and dine in available. I opted for carry out, however, the dining area is clean. The new owners are very nice! The orange chicken comes with orange slices which is a nice touch! In addition to a fortune cookie, I also received an almond cookie which was a very pleasant surprise. So, long review: My family has been consistent patrons for three decades. We remember the old location well, and continued through to their move into the current some years ago. We came back time and again because the owner was the most wonderful, kind, and friendly restaurant owner around. She truly always took care of our entire family, remembered our names, remembered our orders. Just the definition of lovely. I hope she is reading this and knows how much her family and their restaurant and food meant to us all. She has earned a wonderful retirement and I wish them nothing but the absolute best in life. Truly the hard working, small business success story worth cherishing. We ordered for the first time last night after the ownership change - the recipes and menu are all different. I can't say they are bad necessarily, but certainly below the high standards set previously. Less character, less flavor, and certainly less passion in the food. Everything we ordered tasted identical to food you could get at a dozen other Chinese restaurants- and what we loved about Absolutely was how different it was. I am thrilled to see the business continue; I am thrilled the previous owner finally gets a much deserved break after being a staple of the community for so long; and I am hopeful that the new owners consider going back to the food that made this restaurant successful in the first place. An excellent place to take your family or significant other for a great lunch or dinner. Located in Rolling Meadows it wasn't far from Arlington Heights where we live. The waitress was very nice, I really wished I asked her name. I recommend trying the crispy boneless duck. All the things you love about duck minus dealing with the bones, which makes eating duck a quicker experience in my opinion. We also tried a lamb dish, and a fish dish which was very good as well. Totally recommend especially if you're looking for a new place apart from the Woodfield shopping area. read more
