    Kare kare
    Myra Y.

I've only had take out from Hong Ning prior to dining in for the first time. I was happy with it then and had anticipated it would be just as good. Our group ordered lumpia, kare kare, bangus, palabok and lechon kawali. The kare kare came with in house bagoong and it was savory but not too shrimpy. As everyone knows, each Filipino cook has different ways of making their dishes. All was good and not disappointed in anything we ordered. In the future, I am looking forward to trying their other dishes... especially their desserts.

Lumpia. Only 2 left because we ate them up!

Came for the lumpia, I will keep returning for the ube panna cotta! Wow, that was the highlight of our meal. The lumpia was crisp with a nice light wrapper, and I like that it is filled with pork and shrimp. It's a nice shareable appetizer for 2 to 4 people. The chicken adobo was good and served in a rich, thick sauce, the way I like it. But the chicken was cut in random pieces, and it was hard to get meat without pieces of bone in each bite. It pairs well with the garlic rice. The pancit sitanghon is delicious with plenty of crisp vegetables. Do not skip dessert. It was delicious. Price was not bad for 2 entrees, 2 sodas and appetizer, and dessert. They also sell bags of freshly baked pan de sal and jars of garlic sardine to go. Lot, our server was sweet, and others working stopped by our table to ask how our meal was. That warm and inviting Filipino hospitality was apparent here. Salamat po Hong Ning!

    Taho and lumpia

Taho and lumpia are all I need in life. They do theirs right. They were also really patient with our outrageously large order for dine in and takeout.

Since moving to the 'burbs, this is our go to spot when craving Filipino food. Service can be slow at times, but for the price point and quality of food it's pretty good. Ambiance is casual and more recently I've noticed no issue accommodating large groups. Our go to dishes when we come by... calamari and sisig to start, BBQ skewers and chicken inasal are always solid options and an order of the pancit canton as well. Yeah I know seems random, but these are my favorites. They do have a lot of all the classic favorites from lumpia shanghai, crispy pata, kare kare, adobo, deep fried bangus (fish), etc. so likely something for everyone. For dessert, the ube panna cotta is very good. Of course could always go with the halo halo, but man that ube panna cotta... Anyways, that's all I got on this one. 'Til next time, salamat po!

    Pancit bihon

Tried this place for the first time. I had been craving some lumpia and since there's a limited amount of Filipino restaurants in the burbs near me, I figured I'd try it while out shopping in the area. My BF has never had that cuisine and he's picky so I took a chance! We both enjoyed it. He got the lunch special and let me try a bite of the garlic rice. We agreed that it could be more garlic-y but overall yummy. The pancit bihon was VERY tasty and came with a HUGE portion for the price. We both ate it and I still brought home about 2 servings worth I think. The lumpia was hot and fresh but maybe not as flavorful as I'm used to at work potlucks (we still ate every last bite though haha). The inside was quaint and clean, loved the decor. The staff was all very friendly and prompt with service! We would definitely go back again to try some other dishes.

The food was so good and we were so hungry that we forgot to take pictures! You'll have to go there to try it!

Food is great and tastes like someone's Nanay or Tatay made it with so much love! It was served promptly with the hallmark Filipino hospitality. We were a group of ten paying in 5 separate checks and they accommodated our request with no problem. The restaurant is clean and the tables comfortably seating smaller and bigger groups alike. The acoustics allows conversations to take place without people having to talk loudly. The owners Ernie and Malou were present to help and support their crew. We have always had a great meal at Hong Ning, even at their old location in Glendale Heights. Their current location in Carol Stream is bigger and better with ample parking. Highly recommended!

Top to bottom: Crispy Binagoongan, Shanghai Lumpia, Pancit, Garlic Rice

There's not that many Filipino restaurants in the area, so I appreciated how authentic the food was, coming from this family-owned establishment. The food was nothing but packed with flavor! I really enjoyed the Shanghai Lumpia--definitely order if you're considering. It was some of the best I've had. The Crispy Binagoongan was also lovely. It was the perfect balance between meat (crispy pork) and veggie (eggplant). I want to come back and try more dishes. The only thing I would improve about my experience was the ambience. The lighting was very washed out which did not feel super inviting. Our table was also a dirty when we sat down despite it being a slower evening, but those things are just minor compared to the food.

    Grilled pork belly lunch special

I was looking for a good meal after having so much fast food lately and I'm glad I found this gem! I believe this was the first time I ate Filipino food and wow, have I been missing out! I ordered their grilled pork belly lunch special (which was cheaper than a combo at any fast food joint) & it was packed with flavor! The server recommended it to me and I'm glad she did. She was very attentive and sweet. If I'm ever in town again I'll definitely be coming back!

Family has been coming here for years. Good traditional Filipino food. My regular order might be: Camaron rebosado Chicken inasal with java rice Halo halo Calamares Calamansi juice Sinigang Staff is nice and decor makes you feel like your in a Filipino dining room.

This is only my second time going to this restaurant. I love the mixture of two cultures as they serve both Filipino and Chinese food. Our waitress, was very polite and took our order effectively. This place is somewhat lively, but somewhat peaceful. The only con about this place is that there is 90 minute time limit per table. I would definitely recommend the garlic rice and sisig (The Crispy Sisig). I also love the Pancit palabok.

We've been going to this place since the 90s back when we still live in St Charles. They serve authentic Filipino dishes that never fades. Now we live and the city and we still trek out here. It's great for groups, little to no wait time and always reliably delectable plates.

So the space here is mostly taken up with pizza boxes and a long food service table, with a narrowish aisle to order your food / desserts. They have meatballs; various pizza slices and whole pizzas (unlike the new place next door, they'll serve you slices all day); lasagna and manicotti. There are other things but I'm a vegetarian so I zone out the minute I see "sausage." Vegetarian? They default to a marinara red sauce and vegetable is one of the default slices. I didn't see eggplant parmesan on the menu, but they told me if I ask for it (advance notice would be helpful) they'll make it. Entrees are served hot. The manicotti and lasagna are delicious; the manicotti is not a big pan but a take-out container with two manicotti rolls; will feed one hungry person but wouldn't be enough for two people. Service is still friendly although the space is now a little cramped. The cake and gelato, etc. are still delicious, so I stand by everything I said about dessert in my earlier review.

It's tucked in an industrial park area, but there's plenty of parking and the service is just as warm and welcoming as their other location in Morton Grove! There's even a picnic table outside for anyone wanting to enjoy their hot empanadas right then and there. They offer a well priced lunch special that's $16 for 2 empanadas, 2 sauces, a side, and a drink! It's a great deal! I got several empanadas - Butter chicken which tastes just a delicious plate of homemade butter chicken wrapped in a flaky baked crust. It's not spicy, but spiced well for all the flavors! Philly Cheesesteak our family favorite. Cheesesteak in an easy to hold flaky crust. I kinda wish there was a little more cheese, but they don't skimp on the meat! Chicken pot pie, another tasty empanada. They top it with a sprinkle of fresh rosemary which isn't quite a favorite for our family, but it's pretty easy to remove most of it. It has all the fixings and flavorings of a warm, comforting pot pie! Mac and cheese - who would have imagined it could be an empanada, but it is and it's tasty. My son loves this because he really loves Mac n cheese and loves the empanada crusts. I got the elote as a side which is buttery and salty, a good side to accompany the meal. Fresh corn that crunched which made us happy. I also got the longonisa fried rice! If you never had longinisa, it's a must try. Imagine it to be similar to Chinese sausage, but less cured and just delicately seasoned. Everything about this fried rice made me wish I had more. I'll be returning to pick up some frozen take and bake so we will have them handy whenever the craving hits.

The beef itself is seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had it with chimichurri sauce and it went well with it. The Ube horchata was meh for me. I wanted to try it though and I'm glad I did. I had the pick two, which was a half a sandwich (grilled cheese) with a half salad (kale Caesar). The salad was so good! Fresh, crisp and lightly dressed. However, the grilled cheese was pretty sad. I opened it up and there was hardly any cheese. It was just like eating two pieces of grilled bread. They need to improve on that for sure. I also had their 12oz wildflower latte which was very tasty, but served lukewarm and not hot. If the milk is not steamed, it will bring down the temperature of the coffee. I like my specialty coffees served hot. I do have to say every staff member we came in contact with was friendly. They seemed happy and were there to help and answer questions. Even with the sad grilled cheese sandwich which was disappointing and the lukewarm latte, I would definitely go back to Blackberry Market again to try other items on their menu. I'll pass on the grilled cheese, though.
