After a wonderful evening listening to an intimate concert by a Russian cellist at Arcada Theatre, my two Russian friends and I decided to have dinner at Chinor. What a fantastic choice! Even better, it's only a few blocks from my house, so I know I'll definitely be back. The restaurant is elegant without feeling pretentious. White tablecloths, a warm atmosphere, and attentive, friendly service immediately make you feel welcome. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, answered all our questions, and guided us through dishes that were new to me. Everything we ordered was excellent. We started with one of their traditional breads, which was fresh, warm, and absolutely delicious. We also shared several salads, including an eggplant salad that completely stole the show. It was flavorful, beautifully prepared, and one of the best eggplant dishes I've had in a long time. Another highlight was their large steamed dumplings, similar in spirit to pierogi but distinctly Uzbek. They were generously filled with lamb, perfectly cooked, and incredibly satisfying. Comfort food at its best. One thing that really impressed me was how authentic the restaurant felt. It was busy with people who clearly knew and appreciated the cuisine, including many Eastern European and Central Asian diners, which always feels like a good sign. It is wonderful to find a restaurant serving authentic Uzbek food in the suburbs, and doing it so well. Excellent food, gracious service, and a beautiful atmosphere make Chinor an easy recommendation. This is such a cute place with both indoor and outdoor seating in good weather. There are tables that seat small groups and big parties. Their menu is very clearly laid out and helps those who may have never tried Uzbek food see what they may be ordering. I went to dinner here on a Saturday at 5:30. I have recommended this restaurant to so many people before, but I haven't been here for awhile and was not as impressed anymore. On a Saturday night at an early seating, they were already out of lagman and manti. The apricot compote juice was very watered down and didn't taste as good as the last time we had it.. The food was still good, but not as tasty as before. The worst part of the whole experience was when she gave us the check with an extra credit card fee (around 2.5%). When we asked if the fee would still be applied if paid by cash, the server said yes. We were very disappointed and we won't be back again. We went with friends who has never tried Uzbekistan food before, and we don't think they want to come back to this restaurant again after this experience. read more

My wife's friend mentioned this restaurant. Since we really enjoyed Anjir Restaurant recently, we had to give this place a shot. The sign outside the building says Chinor, but inside it says Chinar. The interior is nice and spacious, and feels fancy. No booth seating, just tables & chairs. The menu is pretty extensive. We ordered manti (dumplings), a beef samsa, lagman, and plov. The manti was really good, but seemed slightly less flavorful than Anjir's manti. The samsa was excellent; the beef chunks inside were nice and meaty, and the outside was a nice flaky dough. The lagman was super flavorful, and the veggies were cooked nicely. Some places chop veggies large (maybe to save time) and barely cook them, so it's like eating raw veggies. Even the noodles were cooked perfectly; not al dente, not soggy. The plov (traditional rice and meat dish) is the best I've had from any Uzbek or Afghan restaurant. The rice was moist, the fatty meat was tender and bursting with flavor, and the carrots were cooked to the point of caramelization. They have cakes in the back counter that you can buy. They even have raw meat skewers that I believe you can buy so you can grill at home. Side note -- they state 100% halal on their FB and Instagram pages, but I didn't see any certification inside. Service was friendly enough. Kind of on the pricy side, but it's a nice sit-down restaurant, not fast casual, so overall I'd say reasonable. We really enjoyed our meal here. read more

The service is terrible. They brought one small pitcher with warm water for 13 people. Had to wait 20 minutes to get 2nd one. We placed an order for 3 or 4 plovs, the waitress came back to let us know what they had just one serving of plov. It was 6 pm. We had to find something else to order. Fried fish was unchewable. They would bring one order and rest of us had to wait for another plate and wait again and again and again. Don't know how they stay in business. Lamb was very tender. Our server was very polite, provided his recommendation which were very good. We did not have to wait too long for our food. Restaurant was very clean, well decorated, had soft background music. To summarize, if you are looking for an authentic Uzbek experience, go no further. Chinar was a beautiful casual restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere buzzing with conversation when we stepped in for lunch. The beef shashlik (cubes) and the beef lula (ground) were both excellent kabobs, and the bread we ordered was dense and crispy. We also got a plate of beef and lamb manti (dumplings) that were very flavorful. Service was good. Our server helped us get an idea of what would be good to try on our first time with Uzbek food. We came with a party of 30 and even came 30 minutes early. The tables were already set and they were happy to seat us. The atmosphere of this place feels like I'm in the comfort of my own home. The tea and salads come out first and come out very quickly. The staff is so kind and very on top of clearing the table for more space.
