Mead is the way to go! The location is a little weird and feels like you are in the wrong place…read more Breweries are great and all but it's nice to go somewhere different. Definitely get the feeling that locals are welcome but if you're not a regular you just not on the same level. I will definitely look for their products in the stores but I don't think I will come back to the actual brick and mortar location. Ryan likes to act exclusive so he would love this place.

First off - before Honnibrook, I would never have sought out a meadery. My conception of mead is…read morethat it's overly sweet and overly boozy. Honnibrook is different - their mead is light, refreshing and they had so many fun different flavors to try! Everyone at the meadery was so nice and let us try the base mead as we walked in, to set a baseline for a mead without any of the flavoring. It was again light, crisp and not syrupy-tasting. My husband and I ended up getting a flight of 4 - the slushie mojito, earl gray lavender, island hopper and huckleberry. The earl gray lavender was delicious - we ended up getting a bottle to bring home! My only critical feedback would be the flight options - they had several flight options (1 taster for $4, then flights for 4 or 8). There was no economical benefit to getting a 4 or 8-taster flight, versus just individual tasters, so don't think the flight pricing makes sense since it's just a per unit price regardless of how many tasters you get. Definitely will be recommending this place to friends! flight prices

Treat yourself to this tiny little place in the Black Forest and you'll walkaway with a huge smile on your heart. One of the owners should be there to pour you a glass and tell you how they made it. Great service and great Mead !!

This one star isn't so much of an "it was bad" rating as opposed to "it lacked an experience"…read morerating. Not that there wasn't some frustration involved. Steven and I have practically become beer snobs overnight. With this in mind we are always looking for another brewery to try. Along the way we also got a taste for mead as well. Colorado is mostly known for their breweries but there are a handful of meaderies in the state as well. Almost all of them seem to be ran out of some body's home. Calling to see if a tasting can be arranged can be difficult. Some of the ones we tried to go to before act like they don't even want you to come over and try what they have to offer. One meadery owner acted like she was selling illegal drugs and said that she didn't want us to come over without an appointment and have the neighbor's become aroused because they see a strange car in the driveway. Hmmm. Colorado's breweries and meaderies are listed in a guide, a map if you will that indicates the various breweries in the state. The map has jumped the gun on several occasions and we went to breweries that haven't even opened yet. The brewery guide and map has been however accurate with hours of business with these places listed. Which brings me to the Black Forest Meadery. This was the only meadery that seemed to have established hours without the comment 'call for information' . This gave us the idea that this place was more established and ready to receive guests. The GPS led us through different parts of Black Forest, CO and eventually to a residence where the meadery is. There was a sign that indicated we were indeed at the meadery with an additional sign that said there was a wine tasting today. Under the sign that had the said name was a phone number to call to have a gate open to get to the residence. We called without no answer which eventually led to an answering machine saying that we reached Black Forest Meadery. Yes, we KNOW that already from the sign. There was no information stating their hours, just in case the map got it wrong again. Totally deflated we went back to the Interstate with no mead. So was the map wrong? Who knows. This leads me to my final rant of going to homes that run a business inside them. The residents can totally make up their own rules. That is fine but if customers get the idea that you will be around and you are not... well the customer feels kind of screwed. It may all be a question of seriousness too. Maybe selling puppies and making mead is more of a hobby and you aren't really open for business till you need some extra money on the side? Who knows what peoples motivations are. After some further thought it might had been a good idea that no one was there to let us through the gate. It might have been a very pressuring experience where a couple is reeeeeally pushing you into buying some mead or that puppy or whatever. Then you feel bad if you don't buy anything and they get frustrated at you because 'lil Susie had to wait fifteen minutes after soccer practice because they were dealing with the likes of you. It takes pressuring 'used car dealership' type sales to a whole new level because you are in some body's domain and not in your own or out in a neutral area. Who knows, maybe none of these stereotypes would come true at Black Forest Meadery there was no way to tell. That gate did not open.
