The spicy edamame was different here vs other places, and I LOVE that when restaurants offer something else other than just plain salt -- people, we can do that at home! The assorted nigiri pieces came out prettier than most other sushi spots, they definitely brushed it to make it look pretty, and that's setting the bar higher where it should be! Phenomenal dining experience from beginning to end. The space is not huge, but with the sushi bar, there is a decent amount of seating. I recommend planning ahead with a reservation, as they can get busy during a dinner rush. We were visiting Colorado for a quick weekend trip and were floored by the food here. While the rolls all sounded great, we opted for an omakase experience. It is priced at market value, so I imagine this could vary over time, but they had three tiers for omakase, which I thought were all fairly priced for the amount of food included. We opted for the highest tier, which was $120 pp, and it was incredibly filling with high quality cuts of fish and a thoughtfully curated menu. The sushi chef who took care of us was incredibly kind, and it was clear he put a lot of care into the food he prepared. If you're on the fence, hop off and make that reservation and come hungry for the omakase experience! read more

A poor excuse for a sushi restaurant. This place feels cheap in almost every way imaginable. They didn't even have real wasabi, which already tells you everything you need to know about the quality here. The sushi menu is tiny compared to any legitimate sushi spot, and the menu itself was filthy. Not "a little worn," actually dirty. First impressions matter, and this place failed immediately. There was also zero indication whether you seat yourself or wait to be seated, so customers are left awkwardly standing around wondering what's going on. To make things worse, the entrance feels bizarre and rundown, like you're sneaking into the back of a storage building instead of entering a restaurant. If you want real wasabi, go to a proper sushi restaurant. This felt more like a watered-down imitation than a real dining experience. 1/10 read more

Still as amazing as I remember. Took my partner here for his birthday. We got the $120/person omakase and a California roll for our baby girl. As of 2-21-2026 they offer three tiers of omakase, $80, $100, and $120. As mentioned, we got the $120 omakase. It was worth every penny. Started off with miso soup with snow crab and a salad, then chawamushi, then the nigiri courses started coming. I don't remember everything, but I absolutely loved the foie gras and uni! I was wowed by every piece and so was my partner. The service is great and the restaurant is clean and modern. Our server brought over a Mille crepe cake for my partners birthday and it was so tasty! Went to Makizushico for omakase last time to use up my American Express Platinum Resy benefit, since it's one of the few Asian restaurants in town offering lunch service on Resy. Having enjoyed it so much then, as this quarter's Resy benefit was about to expire, went back for another meal. The place was quite busy during luch hours on a weekday, with a steady stream of customers coming in. Many didn't even glance at the menu, probably regulars. Knowing their omakase is excellent, this time ordered from the menu. Ordered miso soup, gyoza, toro sashimi, sushi deluxe, chirashi bowl, gyu-don, unagi don, and a slice of mille cake this time. The miso soup was solid--hot and properly simmered. Gyoza had crispy skins with chewy wrap and tasty fillings--well done. The toro sashimi was fresh and generously cut. No frills needed, just a dip in soy sauce was enough to bring out its fine texture and flavor. The sushi deluxe included eight varieties of nigiri and salmon rolls. The sashimi slices were generously thick, uniformly sized and cut, with rice balls holding together perfectly, not too loose or tight. The vinegared rice complemented the fish's natural sweetness well. The chirashi rice was prepared excellently, springy and chewy, paired with several types of raw fish sashimi, including some premium cuts, all sliced to just the right thickness. The gyu-don used thin slices of tender marbled beef. The rich sauce and sweet onions complemented the beef's savory flavor beautifully. The rice, soaked in the sauce, is fluffy and delicious, rivaling Yoshinoya's beef bowl. The kabayaki eel pieces in the unagi don were quite generous. The skin was slightly crispy, while the meat was rich, tender, and succulent. The kabayaki sauce was perfectly balanced, neither too sweet nor too salty. The rice was soft and chewy. Finally, the mille cake had a silky smooth texture that melted in the mouth, with a delightful blend of creaminess and pastry aroma, without being overly rich. Another satisfying meal. read more

Dare I say it - this might be one of the best Sushi spots in Denver. My friend told me this spot and I was honestly dubious. A littleton strip mall sushi spot typically doesn't perk my ears - but I decided to give it a try. And man am I glad I did. Fresh fish, friendly service - delicious creations. Their omakase is honestly hard to beat. They have 3 tiers but their first tier is SUCH a good deal. 20 items for 80 bucks. You get 4 non-sushi items - that are still delicious. Miso soup, salad, Chawamushi egg, and dessert. But otherwise everything else is a nigiri, sashimi, or handroll. Some favorites: Any and all of the tuna belly. We got a variety while we were there of varying grades and can honestly say they were all delicious and melt in your mouth. Seared salmon belly - one of my favorites. Perfectly balanced flavors and textures. Baby flounder nigiri with chilicrisp - this was a surprising one for me. I don't typical order it - but it was super fresh and a fun meld of flavors. Uni handroll - we added Uni because its our favorite and it came fresh from Japan that morning. Super fresh and delicious. Santa barbara Uni has nothing on hokkaido. The other thing is the presentation. I was impressed by the details. Cute and different spoons each time. And there was even one where they put the nigiri in a book they lit on fire. There was also one dish where the fish was in a smoker that they opened up when delivered. Get your cameras and IG ready. And the plus - drinks/sake are a great deal too. Their online menu had a few rolls, but they seemed to have "specials" listed, which we opted to try as well. Our server was very attentive and helpful. I don't know if there's been a change in ownership but something has changed. Three of us waited for almost 15 minutes even though they weren't busy because none of the empty tables were bussed. There were 5 more tables near ours that had used dishes on them and they stayed that way through our meal and even after we left (see photos). There were four men behind the sushi bar and no one said welcome or even acknowledged our presence. The server was poorly attentive. No one seems to care. How have I not reviewed this place?! I really don't believe that... thought I had after picking up a chirashi bowl previously... which was full of great slices of fish! And was ready at my promised pickup time. Anyway... this is one of my favorite sushi places in the Denver area. We've been here multiple times and the fish is always fresh and delicious! Whether you're letting the chef guide you through omakase or you choose your own adventure - can't really go wrong! Most recently, we picked up for NYE and they were SO busy! We placed our order online and chose a time about 1.5hrs out. Got there and was told it wild be 15-25 minutes. Checked in at 15 and was again told it wild be another 15-25... ultimately we left 45 min after our pickup time. BUT that was on what might have been their busiest night of the year. There were anywhere from 2-10 others waiting at a time while I was. They were hustling, smiling, and the food was great! Hit the spot! My only critique is placing hot gyoza in the bottom of their insulated takeout bag, under all the delightful raw fish. Heat rises so I know we would have experienced sub-par bites if I hadn't taken the hot food out before leaving/ while I was checking the order. Nice chirashi but rice was either el dente (is there such a thing with rice?) or just a bit hard. It was plain with no seasoning or "sushi rice". The sashimi were all nice and fresh, just a bit thin and small. Since it was an entree I would have thought soup and salad would accompany it, but no dice. The dragon roll took awhile t9 be ready, due to "grilling the unagi", but the roll was mostly rice and very little unagi.The environment was nice and only a couple of other folks were there mid to late afternoon. The ambiance is excellent: good table spacing, beautiful decor, no loud music, typically respectful volumes from all of the other's tables, open view to all of the sushi action behind the sushi bar. This is second time we tried the Omakase menu. It was $100 per person, and definitely worth it for a special night. Everything the chefs prepared was incredible, but the smoked otoro and the foie gras sushi stood out to is as the stars of the show. The service staff was attentive, friendly, prompt with bringing out each new dish, and able to explain what each item was without hesitation. They also can accommodate gluten sensitivities with GF soy sauce. Ok... this place was pretty good all hands down !! I'm a big fan of Japanese cuisine and my man took me on a date, and he chose pretty well! MakizushiCo absolutely blew us away. We did the Omakase, mid-tier (20 plates), and honestly it felt like a curated little journey. Every single dish came out looking like art, and tasted even better. The fish was unbelievably fresh...like melt-in-your-mouth fresh...and you could tell there was actual thought behind the sequence: lighter, delicate pieces first, richer and more complex as it went on with three back to back show stoppers at the end. Highlights? The buttery salmon belly, the toro (ridiculous), and the waygu. Service was relaxed but efficient, and the chef actually explained every plate without making it feel pretentious. It felt personal, not performative. We left full, bursting at the seams. They ended everything with a sweet honey cake piece to end the night. This is a hidden gem in Littleton! They have stellar sashimi with beautiful presentation worthy of any of the more well-known sushi joints in downtown Denver. My one wish is that their rolls listed on the "specials" board would actually change once in a while, but I've never seen anything different listed up there in the year or so that I've been going. That makes me sad, because I find their standard rolls, well, a little standard. From the kitchen side of things, the wagyu fried rice is killer. And it's a sizable portion, so I will often bring home half for lunch the next day. They also have a decent sake selection, which I very much appreciate. They have a large sushi bar area and lots of 2-top tables, so it's great for couples and solo diners. Still one of my favorite spots to get affordable omakase! Their fish is always so yummy and they also have different course options depending on how hungry you are! The inside of the restaurant is really modern and they are always super busy during dinner. My friends have had a few large gatherings here with groups of 20+ people and they have always accommodated us really well and really taken care of us. We booked a month in advance for our anniversary, specifically hoping for the omakase bar experience. Despite arriving on time, we were told the bar was full and were sat at a table. We were informed the bar was reserved for a party of six, yet within ten minutes, the bar cleared out and only a party of four was seated there. We did ask our server if we were able to move. The restaurant never offered to move us, and we spent our dinner watching other guests enjoy the omakase experience we had requested, there were also other parties that didn't even order the omakase that were seated at the bar. While the food was excellent, and our sever was great...the experience we received verses what we were expecting ruined the intimate vibe we were looking for especially on our anniversary day. After choosing this over Uchi and Matsuhisa, we were deeply disappointed and won't be returning. read more

I really hate to leave a bad review as I had high hopes after reading reviews and having this restaurant on my radar for a bit. Our server was very nice but, the wait staff is understaffed, I think there was only one server taking orders in a packed restaurant. It was hard to get his attention as he was running around, I felt for him really. The quality was lacking for the chu toro, it was some of the lowest quality I've ever had, for a cut so expensive it was a real let down. The nigiri in general was so tiny, the waygu was absolutely inedible and chewy and the rice was not seasoned well. It was just a really underwhelming experience. I felt like the prices didn't match the quality. The nigiri is called sushi which is a red flag as well, also there was no wasabi served, however I was able to request pickled wasabi, but real wasabi would have been preferred. If I go out to get Japanese food I want a close to authentic experience and this felt very catered to the locals. Overall it was a very disappointing dinner. read more

Excellent experience. My wife and I came for a date night and we've been to Japan numerous times. The omakase experience is fantastic and each dish was prepared perfectly, so set aside the wasabi - really it's just horse radish - and soy, because the chef prepared each plate with umami. I wish the prices were on par with Japan where the same experience is $30, but I can do about that being in the middle of the US. The service was attentive and overall an excellent experience. First dinner during our June, 2024 Colorado trip was at Makizushico on the 18th. We arrived shortly after 7:30 PM sans reservations to a nearly full dining room inside. We waited about twenty minutes to be seated because we did not want to eat al fresco. Located at the front corner spot of the The Shoppes at Columbine Valley strip mall, parking is ample and the venue's interior is open and warm. Inside, the focal point is the sushi bar where they offer counter seating within a main room of wooden floors, tables, chairs, and walls. The décor is simple with a modern air. We were seated in the semi-private room towards the back which was nice. The entire space appeared very clean, but we did ask for our table to be wiped down before having any food or drinks served to us. Below are some of the items that we ordered: Takoyaki ($7) - Alyssa enjoyed this Hot Starter. Spider Roll ($14) - Not bad. We omitted the eel sauce. Not sure if it would have been better with the sauce. Salmon Roll ($7) - This was one of Auntie Ligaya's orders. She liked this Maki Roll. Avocado Roll ($6) - Alyssa found this vegetarian roll to be tasty. Shrimp Tempura Roll ($12) - Auntie Ligaya happily gobbled every piece of this maki sushi. Gyoza ($8) - Nice, flavourful. Seaweed Salad ($6) - Refreshingly good. Wagyu Fried Rice ($19) - Excellent! To be honest, I initially wasn't excited at all by this dish, automatically expecting to see fatty meat. Wow, I was not only surprised by the lean pieces of meat, I was pleasantly taken aback by the deliciousness. Miso Black Cod ($28) - Both mom and I ordered this Entree. In need of a sister night out, we ventured not far from her place to Makizushico - a new and hip sushi spot that I've heard so much about! Here's the break down! STAR #1: Being in the strip mall of Platte Canyon and Bowles, the location is a little unassuming! Parking is ample and the space inside is cozy, open yet private. Plenty of room for parties of all sizes with an open view of the kitchen - to see the sushi chefs in action! STAR #2: Service during our visit was top notch! My sister arrived a few minutes before me, ordered a beverage and within minutes of my arrival, our server approached. He provided great recommendations for cocktails, mocktails and everything in between. He checked back with us frequently, brought our rolls out in record time and complimentary sake! STAR #3: The food and cocktails!!! We both settled on cocktails (the names plague me now) but they were fresh and delicious. I will note - they premix their cocktails - but the ratio is perfect. Both strong and tasty! We opted to share an appetizer of Shishito peppers and seaweed salad before ordering a handful of rolls to split. We opted for the Salmon Avocado, Spicy Tuna, Shrimp Tempura and a roll that our server said to be his favorite. With the open kitchen concept, we were able to see our rolls being made to order - which was a fun addition to the experience! Everything came out in record time, was beautiful in presentation, tasted fresh and delicious! STAR #4: Pricing is part of what slays the game here. In that each roll is extremely reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of dishes and service. Most traditional rolls were $7-$9 with the specialty rolls being in the mid-range of $15-$18! Our bill came to under $100 for everything, which was astounding for sushi! STAR #5: Reservations can be made for parties of any size through Resy, and for parties of 5 or more, just give the restaurant a call and they will accommodate you to the best of their ability! I have wanted to get my omakase on for many years and we finally got it done for my birthday this year. Makizushico was a great spot for it! It is not that small intimate atmosphere however the experience is pretty much the same. We got to try so many yummy things and take a few sake shots with the head chef which was fun! Starts with miso and salad. Egg custard and then the onslaught begins. My only complaint is the torch. It made some of these delicious course taste completely like butane. Especially the wagu which was a big let down. The chef was very knowledgeable and sweet. Unfortunately hard to understand at times but that's okay we got through it :) read more

My Sweetheart and I ordered takeaway from Makizushico on New Year's Eve. We typically dine in when visiting but thought we'd stay in and enjoy some sushi. The place was hopping! We ordered online for pick up at 6 pm and when we arrived the parking lot was jam packed. I dropped my wife off while I went to find a parking lot and she text me saying it would be 15-25 minutes for our order to be ready. 44 minutes later we received our order. The staff here are always friendly and the food was good as usual. Though it's obviously better fresh and onsite. The only reason I didn't rate this visit 5 stars is the front door worker stated the standard 15-25 minutes to everyone regardless of their position in line. I would recommend having a better bead on what the kitchen is doing at any given point and being able to provide a more accurate assessment to your patrons. Otherwise, ok visit and the food was packed adequately. We will return though likely dining in again. read more
