This Hon's was a regular place my mom and dad would take us to growing up. A childhood staple if you will. The place was always packed with a line and just a bustling atmosphere. I remember it well. The food was always consistent and pretty decent. My how times have changed. I was so excited to re-experience this as an adult and after being out of the country for 4.5 years. I had not been to a Hon's in probably 10ish years. We ordered a few of the classics that I used to have. Congee, wonton noodle soup of course and chicken creamed corn on rice. Sadly, the food was not the same. And I guess that's why the place only had one other table...the food wasn't inedible but it just wasn't very good at all. All I can say is that soon after Hons noodle house had been taken over by someone from mainland China years ago, as distinguished from Hong Kong Chinese, their philosophy had emphasis on making money, the quality seems to have plummeted. Their crispy noodles, all broken up bits of dry noodles. Their wonton are so big but lacking in prawns, flavor is also lacking. Today, Wednesday lunch time, only 4 tables occupied. I've been for dim sum many times in multiple restaurants across Metro Vancouver. I was pleasantly surprised that Hon's serves dim sum as a regular part of the menu. I was hungry so ordered four dishes: steamed prawn pocket, steamed pork siu mai, deep-fried shrimp spring rolls, and steamed sticky rice. I wasn't impressed. The prawn pockets were okay but somehow tasted like something was lacking. The siu mai also tasted off somehow, lacking in flavour and the cabbage wasn't the usual colourful green. It looked very washed out. The spring rolls were okay but the sticky rice was rather shocking. The lotus leaves looked old, dried out, they had holes in them and looked like they had been reused a dozen times. They didn't smell fresh, either. That smell transferred to the rice. I picked out the bits of meat, which also tasted a bit off. I tore up the leaves so they couldn't use them yet again. Neither my friend nor I left tips. We won't be back. read more

"Chinese broccoli" was basically leafy part of gai lan. We all know only non-xxxxxxx customers get served that! And, I always like to treat myself to sticky rice and they call them purses here. This restaurant kills the term dim sum, and not in a good way. So, I complained to the cashier who took a call while I was in mid sentence so I walked around and hanged up the phone on her. My dad introduced me to this place as a kid years ago, and for a portion of my childhood, this was our default place to get quality Chinese meals. Despite what the name implies, Hon's sells far more than wontons, with offerings of classic dishes such as BBQ pork, sweet and sour pork, crispy duck, soya sauce chicken, pork ribs, and Chinese brocolli (gai lan). Although to be perfectly honest, gai lan is a dish only an elder would enjoy. As far as I can recall, the service was always prompt and friendly, and the dining room was spacious and comfortable, which contributed to a homey atmosphere overall. I am pleased to learn this restaurant remains in business despite the ownership's internal struggles, and hope to have the opportunity to introduce my own associates to their cuisine. read more

ZERO STARS...This place before Covid19 was very good but NOW Horrible. I've gone here twice for dinner and both time the Worst! I thought perhaps it would be better the second time this weekend and the food had to be sent back twice. I should have walked out and refused to eat there but it was late the second time. The people at the other table also complained and sent a Dim Sung dish back. The Women serving were polite and courteous but the Cook didn't give a care and below standards for Chinese food? I would suggest they replace the Cook or Management completely. This restaurant use to be packed but the two times I ate there the restaurant was empty. I was pleasantly satisfied with my second order here at Hon's! It is one of the only Chinese restaurants in the area that has free delivery with $35 so I decided to give another go! First off the wor wonton soup was huge. It came in three separate containers which was more than enough to share between two, possibly even three people. It was very flavourful I had lots in it! I also got the pan fried pork potstickers which were also a lot better than what I remember last time where I wrote they had little to no filling. They were quite greasy, but I'll pick my battles! I also got the shrimp spring rolls which were very flavourful, and the bbq duck noodles which basically is a chow mein noodle. Early 90's 5 star, around 1995-2000 4 star, 2001-2009 3 star and I'm sure now you catch my drift.. I gave 2 stars cause the servers I've known for over 15 years were working and always provide me great service. Wonton this evening was actually not watered down so thumbs up but we ordered dinner combo for 2 people and the rock cod with spicy salt was just the worst. I'd rather just eat spoonfuls of salt! I don't know how many cups of tea and water but I'm thinking about 8? The pork chop with black pepper was so so and I guess the highlight of our dinner was the beef rice noodle and mango pudding. With tip it was $49.08 that was 15% option. I'd rather just went and go steak or something else. I feel so ripped off and now I'm feeling bad that we gave the homeless guy the salty fish :( PS: wear a scarf, beanie, puffy jacket, long johns, whatever you can to stay warm. We used to go to Hon's frequently when we lived in Coquitlam. We were going to be in Coquitlam on Sunday and I had a craving for duck noodle soup. The place is the same as we remembered. I had my soup and my husband had a dish of spicy chicken, shrimp, peanuts and vegetables that came with soup and rice for $13.99. He received a good sized bowl of won ton soup with 5 won ton. All the food was very good and served hot. Service was also very good and we received refills of the tea without having to ask. My husband also requested water and it was brought to the table relatively quickly. Large portions, good food, good service, clean and nice ambiance and very reasonable prices. We'll return when we're in Coquitlam. read more

Some things never change. Our family has been going to different "Hon's Wun-Tun" places as far as I can remember. It was always cheap, available and consistent......as in consistently mediocre. I find myself coming to this Coquitlam location since it still remains cheap, available and consistent. Soup bases are bland and one-dimensional. Portion sizes are okay, but I've never had so much that I had to box it to go. Hon's makes congees even more tasteless than is typical for this genre. Prices, luckily, still remain competitive, although meals are now pushing into the two-digit territory. I reminisce of the days when $10 paid for the entire family. We ordered from Hon's a few weeks ago and I've gotta say I was a bit disappointed. There were no soy sauce, cutlery or napkins in the bag when we opened it so I'm glad we were eating at home. I'm not sure if it's upon request? I think out of the 6 items we ordered, I would only re order the wonton soup. It was a good portion and flavourful for the most part (I just added a bit of sirracha and soy sauce from home). The rest was a bit bland in my opinion and not sure if we would go again. read more

It was New Year's Day and I had a MASSIVE craving for wonton noodle soup and Hons was the only place open so decided to go there. I haven't been there in years but I don't remember the food being that bad. I had the beef brisket and tripe egg noodle in soup. The broth was okay, a lil on the sweet side, the noodles were a little overdone but the brisket was dry and the tripe had a weird after taste. My husband had the wonton rice noodle in soup. Considering they are called a wonton house, their wontons were soggy and they skimped out in the shrimp in the wonton. It was mostly pork. The vegetable potstickers (which I remember used to be pretty good) came in a pile of grease and the ends of all of them were not closing. Totally disappointing experience. I had to come on here and give Hon's this review after being SOOOO impressed with their level of customer service on NYE. Let's just start with saying, their food is always consistently great and they've always been one of my go to Chinese food places throughout the years, but after NYE they will be my only place. So, what happened was they accidentally gave me a wrong item in my order (I ordered 4 dishes), not a big deal, I called to let them know and they asked me to come back and keep the item and they'll make the one I should have gotten. The rest of the order was correct. Well when I arrived they had the WHOLE order waiting for me as some time had gone by and they didn't want our NYE dinner to be cold. WOW! I don't normally like chain restaurants. And to be honest, I have had mixed success eating inside this restaurant. So if it was a review just for the restaurant itself it would probably be two stars. But part of this review is for take-out, which I quite like here , because they're barbecued pork , and duck is excellent. So maybe don't go into the restaurant sit down and eat, but do pop in and purchase some of their delicious barbecued pork, roast pork, or BBQ duck. The barbecue pork is a steal at $6.99 a pound. The Friday evening my friend and I attended was wonderful however being used to the Robson Hons in Vancouver made it odd to see the smaller scale store. Once we were seated in less than 2 minutes three separate people asked if we were ready to order - our reply "we just sat down". The non-authentic totally English menus were seemingly much simpler than the other two Vancouver locations however it was decided to simply ask the waitress for what we wanted than to try to locate it's similar sounding example on the menu. Food started arriving almost instantly however we wished more than a single napkin each would be available and that they would at least return if only once you refill tea. Darn. We ordered: wonton noodle noodle soup, black bean chicken on dry noodles, sweet and sour pork, curry beef brisket, bbq pork, steamed rice, Chinese broccoli (Gainesville Lan) with oyster sauce. Negatives: -we had to ask for a fork and extra napkins -we had to ask for plates to eat off of. -wonton noodle noodles were extremely long -while it was nice the leftovers were packed by staff-each dish was separately packed which meant more packing than food. read more

One order of the $6 Beef Brisket Noodle Soup can feed at least 2 people. Their Beef Congee was really good too. And the Chinese Donuts as a topping for the Congee, very yummy! We also tried their Stir Fried Shanghai Noodles with Chicken Juliennes & Green Beans in Spicy Bean Sauce! There's so much variety to chose from. I was a loyal customer for 13 yrs. It is a tragedy that my former go-to Chinese restaurant had turned into the dark side. It was during the summer where I decided to order take out from there for my lunch break. I ordered the BBQ pork on rice & requested extra meat for my order because I felt like endulging myself that day. I of course understand that there is an extra $3.00 charge and I said "No problem". I picked it up 15 mins later & went back to work to have my meal. I opened the take out container and I was shocked & appalled to see that they had not given me my extra serving of meat. I let it go because work was crazy busy & I couldn't waste anytime going back there & ask for the extra meat since I'm pressed for time at work. In my mind, we are only human. It's probably an honest mistake & I'm ok with it. 2 weeks past & I decided to order take out from there again since I've been craving BBQ on rice again. I phoned & ordered it & again requested extra serving of meat. The lady that I was talking to that took my order had a reassuring answer of "No problem, ready in 10min". Ok so I went there to pick it up. And as I paid for my meal, I decided to check if they did add the extra meat this time. Just to prove my doubts as wrong. And to my surprise, it still looked like a regular order. I showed them my order & told them that I had asked for extra meat but my order looks like it's a regular order. The man that helped me replied "that is with extra meat.." And right there & then..let's just say I called him on his BS, they gave me my extra meat & went back to work & ate my meal w/ feeling really bitter & distaste for what had just happened. Shameful indeed where this place had gone. The quality of food had changed as well as the portions had shrunk. And to charge your customers $0.10 for chilli oil sauces is just madness. I was apprehensive ordering from Hon's after having their food at my sister's place (perhaps they ordered the wrong things) but I was desperate for some authentic Cantonese food and my old standby hadn't been delivering the yumminess lately. Fast forward 3 orders later and I'm so glad I gave this one a try again. We've only ordered for take-away so we haven't had the pleasure of sitting down in the restaurant. They have a massive menu and lots of pictures on their website. The people answering the phone are always so polite and all our orders have been bang on and are available within 10-20 mins! The highlights have been their signature potstickers, house special crispy noodles, Yeung Chow fried rice, BBQ pork and chicken and, corn soup. Tonight, was the last time we'll ever go again. When we ordered a bunch of food, the last thing to come to the table (after we finished eating was our rice) and we even had to ask for it! When I went to pay the bill, I told the manager about the poor service tonight. She replied "it's not my fault!" Hello customer service??? Is that totally not what you want to tell your customers? Her comment just lost a customer. I also noticed that the prices were higher, and the portions had gotten smaller. We used to be able to feed our family of four for about $35. When in doubt you always know you'll get some what decent food here. I hadn't been to Hon's in a couple of years so we went and between 4 of us we shared 4 dishes.
