I wouldn't recommend seeing a movie here. We came here a few months ago and were body searched for drinks. I told this to our friend and he said they stopped him and his son. His son has autism and won't focus on a movie if it doesn't suit him. They sat in back so they didn't bother anyone and he played a game on his phone (volume off and lighting low) again I've seen a movie with them and never noticed him on the phone. The attendant came up to them and told them to give him the phone. Which made the son feel like he was doing something wrong and had the WORST experience ever at a theater. I won't ever support this business again. I suggest going to Troutdale, Camas or the Dalles. read more

I don't typically write reviews. I have been coming to this theater for many years as a local. It's a fun time for my son. I'm writing this review in hopes the new owners see it and take my experience and use it to improve. The last three times I have been, the theater was not cleaned from the previous show, pop corn and garbage every where. Then we tried again and they never turned off the lights when the movie started, I had to get up and let someone know to turn off the lights. The person I did tell, I found leaned back in a chair on his phone. Then today, no butter for the popcorn. And no warning when buying the popcorn. We did see a movie at Regal Cinema on Stark in Gresham recently . I may start driving there to see our movies which is disappointing so I am hoping they can improve based on the experiences I just shared. read more

I would choose 0 stars if I could. Don't waste your money here. This is the worst theatre experience I've ever had. Loud people in the theatre and instead of helping with that they try to search you and take your drinks away. Drinks they don't serve there. This place is lucky it's the only theater around here. It's fine to just watch a movie but everything else about it has just gone down hill since it got new ownership. The staff seems to be polite and there to do their jobs so it honestly seems more like a management or owner issue. The bulk candy is practically non-existent, I've worked in a candy store with way more traffic than the theater gets and there is absolutely no reason for it to be that low every single time we've gone. It's not even one candy, it is all of them. Half the stalls in the women's restroom don't lock and you better check if they have toilet paper first cause odds are they won't. The wall soap dispensers are broken which is whatever but even the ones they leave on the counter are faulty. This theater also use to play the movies multiple times a day, now it only plays them twice MAYBE three times a day if it's Sunday. The whole theater just seems like they are cutting corners to even be able to afford running it and it's not a good look for a business. read more

If you read all the complaints about this movie theater, they are from those who feel entitled to bring in their own food, put their feet up on the top of the seats, complain about how beer is dispensed (Oregon State rules) and generally not follow rules and norms that are commonplace in the rest of the country. Cons 1. It appears the management has set up their payment system where only one person handles the system causing lines. They need to fix this one. Pros 1. Prices are fair; no different than other cities in the US. 2. The seats are very comfortable. 3. The theater is clean. 4. The staff is very friendly and personable. read more

Setting the stage... Friday night, Mary Poppins, only NINE patrons in the theater including us. $53 for 3 of us, included the movie, ONE popcorn, ONE soda, ONE stale and half cold pretzel and a very small bag of candy. Whatever...we all know food is expensive AF at the theater. So I smuggled in a bag of m&ms to supplement. It was left overs from Christmas. I wanted to get rid of it. Anyway, about 5 mins before the movie started, my 6 year old and I were settling and waiting for dad to join us and we got caught with illegal candy. What made it so awful was that I had JUST handed my son his little bag of m&ms. He was so excited and then poof, an attendant appears out of nowhere and tells me to take my feet off the chair in front of me and he has to confiscate our candy. You have got to be kidding me... Needless to say my son bawled and I felt AWFUL. All because the theater may have lost about $4 if they had just looked the other way. That said, I did use this as a learning opportunity and explained to my son that mom broke the rules and them taking our candy was the consequence. I've been going to this place for 10 years and I have NEVER seen this happen, but apparently with the new pleather seats they have installed...they have also increased their security. The attendants literally hovered over their customers throughout the show. Every time someone put their feet up on the chairs, an attendant would show up to police the offenders. Every 15 mins someone was walking around the theater to find offenders. It was obnoxious. Advice to management: 1) don't have your attendants hover over your patrons...most people will just stop coming (used seats are better than being empty & nine people in the theater on a Friday night should tell you something) 2) if you are going to enforce your food policy...get some better food. It won't prevent people from sneaking in a .99 bag of candy to avoid spending $4 but you can make some real profits off food that actually tastes good. read more

I'd like to validate the concerns that this movie theater searches your bags and asks you to leave it outside. You also can't finish drinking your water bottle that you're holding inside the theater - the staff will tell you, you can't drink the water or coffee you're holding inside the theater. Although this is really not the fault of the staff but the management or the owner enforcing this rule is truly intrusive. The staff are not friendly and are dismissive. They are unprofessional - well, they're not professionals but rather no manners and does not have good customer service training. I do not recommend this movie theater. Enjoy Hood River and all that the Columbia Gorge has to offer - skip this awful place. By the way, the movie theater in The Dalles actually have better customer service. read more

Telling people to throw out their own water bottles is ridiculous. If this theater thinks they will loose money from people not buying their drinks, they will lose much more by not having them come back and see films there... and telling all their friends not to either. So the theater smells like Cat Urine... HOWEVER! The front seats were Amazing. The seats recline & was so amazingly comfortable.. I'm a manager of a bar in hood river. Was denied alcohol by a 15 year old. Learn proper olcc vip edict. I get deserving the right not to serve anyone. But I skipped my shifty just to make my movie. I buy 24 dollars worth of movies tickets just to walk out. Never coming back. Telling all my friends to never come here. Absolute garbage training. Tell your employees to get off the movie cameras spying on people and retake there olcc training. read more

They were actively re-roofing the theater during our matinee. For over half of the movie we heard constant stomping around on the roof of the theater and muffled talking. It was like trying to watch a movie in an apartment while your neighbors are moving furniture around above you. When the movie started there was light on the screen, it took a few minutes for us to realize the theater door was left open so I walked out and closed it myself. Even though there was nobody in the lobby the attendants couldn't be bothered to close the door when the movie started. After the movie I asked for a refund because it was one of the worst experiences I've had in a theater in recent memory and the kid working told us he couldn't offer a refund, "we can't do refunds". I asked to see the manager and he said he was the only one there. Garbage service isn't the way to bring in more business when people have increasingly fewer and fewer reasons to actually go see movies in the theater. read more

I'm so sad to give such a negative review to our home town cinema, but wow, this was such a bad experience. Firstly, the customer service was just horrible. Not one of them said hi or welcome, just stood there with vacant expressions. I don't blame them, I blame the lack of training. Where is the management?? The ticket taker barked out the number of the theatre we were going to and said the wrong one to two of our group of 5! All this was bad enough, but then we got inside and it was a sauna inside! We said something and asked for the AC to be turned on. We were assured it was done, but it was NOT on or broken. So, although the Incredibles 2 was adorable, I'll be driving to The Dalles or Portland for our next movie. I truly hope management reads this and does something about this mess. read more

Hello, This post is both a sincere thank you and a review of my first time experience at Hood River Cinemas. After careful planning and working with the management for several weeks, my gentleman planned a beautiful surprise for me. A bit of background: My gentleman is going through treatment for Esophageal Adenocarcinoma. The prognosis for this type of cancer is usually poor. Due to his physical and mental health, I took the burden on of taking care of our lives and him. He knew how hard I worked night and day for him/us. He also knows that I am a 19 year fan of the SAW movie series. We have not been in a theater in years due to trauma and the resultant anxiety. Ultimately, the staff with kindness in their hearts allowed my gentleman and I a free showing and theater to ourselves for SAW X on October 6,2023. As I write this, I am still in wonderful shock of my experience there. The staff were kind, compassionate and extremely professional. I was impressed with the quality of movie and the cleanliness of the theater itself. In the crazy world we live in currently, one small movie theater cared enough to make this wonderful experience happen for my gentleman and me. This cinema was beyond disappointing. I took my kids to see How To Train Your Dragon 3 Sunday, March 3rd 2019. The volume was so low and I had to LEAN IN to hear the dialogue! I asked 3 times for the staff to turn up the sound so that we could have a proper cinematic experience. They never increased the volume loud enough to hear the conversations clearly. When I asked about the volume they said that they don't want to blow people's hearing. To be clear, i am 40 and have no hearing issues. I took my kids 12 times to see how to train your dragon #1. But I will not go back to this theater again. Very dissatisfied with our experience here and with the staff's judgment. Save your money and watch the movies at home. read more

Theaters are always dirty and dingy, bathrooms are dirty, locks on stalls dont work in 1/2 the stalls, no hooks to hang up coats, purses etc. Staff is usually nice and they will bring your food to you for hot stuff. read more

I was completely shocked by the treatment I received tonight. I brought my ten year old son to see Wacanda and had a water bottle in my purse. They asked to search my purse at the ticket counter and let me through. It was under my wallet because I had just spent $50 on tickets, popcorn, drinks and candy. A woman then came into the theatre to my seat to confiscate it in front of my son and other patrons because apparently the teenager who I purchased from saw it in my purse . I had nothing to hide and didn't realize I was doing anything wrong. It was water, not alcohol, and I'm a 50 year old mother trying to enjoy a nice evening with her son. Then a woman came in several times after and asked me to get off my phone and to remove my foot from the chair in front of me. I was mortified by the unreasonable attention and distraction to others. I was "on call" so checking my phone and resting my calf on the chair with an empty theatre and no one in front of me for rows. When I left, the manager gave me back my water bottle and threatened that next time if I came in with an outside drink, I would be kicked out. As a business owner in town, I found this treatment unacceptable and appalling. I have supported this theatre with advertising and gift cards for my clients for years and have no choice but to discontinue any financial support for them due to their unprofessionalism. No wonder the theatre was empty. A dying business for a reason. This is honestly the first time I have ever posted about anything but it felt necessary because of the humiliation and mistreatment. I'm giving a biased four stars because I live in the area. It's an old movie theatre. It gets the job done. They have had youngsters working this cinema, as long as I have been going there. I've seen a handful of movies at this cinema; none in 3D. The sound is better than average. The screens are small, but do just fine with the stadium seating. The beer is tasty. They have tasty popcorn, nachos, and pretzels too. My only disappointment was their snack food being out of stock a few times. Keep your expectations modest and you won't be as disappointed by the rough edges around this older cinema. read more

We were so excited to go see Bohemian Rhapsody, and it was almost ruined by the ridiculous actions of the staff. The movie had just started when a young man on a cell phone came in, walked in front of us, then turned back and looked at me to tell me we couldn't have candy from outside the theater in there. Now, I realize it was rude to have outside food, but a friend had surprised me with my favorite candy and they still the candy there. This poor kid was being told what to do by some person in the booth. After he was done giving us a hard time and being yelled at by the people around us for disrupting the beginning of the movie, the kid was sent behind us to some woman who had her feet up on the chair in front of her. Again, I understand that this is rude, too have your feet on someone's furniture, but this poor kid was being directed on who to harass by the person behind the glass. It was highly disruptive and it was infuriating to all the people around who had just paid $12.50 to go see the movie. Then, when someone went to get us beers, they would only sell one at a time, nbd, but then they poured the cider that was in a can, into a cup. Why? Why waste the plastic. The whole experience, minus the amazing film, was crap. We won't be back! Worst cinema ever. We'll drive to The Dalles from now on, and so should you. read more

Wow has this theater gone down hill. Tuesday night and the place was packed with summer kid movie goers. There were 7 employees that I counted and only one register open for a huge line that extended out the doors and down the side walk. I purchased our tickets online and was told I still had to wait in line. Really? It's that hard for a 15 year old to scan tickets at the movie entrance? I asked for the manager because everyone in line was clearly pissed,"She's not here right now." Is all I got. Worst customer service ever. Ordered pizza that took an hour to get. This is an older, quirky theater. They have delicious popcorn, stadium seating, and beer! I don't get all the bad reviews, I really enjoyed this place. I saw the new star wars here and my only criticism was the noise some of the children made when getting up to go to the bathroom... Throw back to the 70's? The seat was broken and the attendant " knee" it back into place. This is the only option for taking the kids unless we wanted to drive an hour to Portland. I think we will drive next time. After we settled down the kids and we got our seats in order and fixed I wanted to get some popcorn. Wow, that was another story. The line was out the door. I asked the other attendant if that was for concessions and he said " concessions & tickets" so even though I had already bought my tickets and got into the movie theatre, I had to go all the way to the end of the line, outside the theatre, to get popcorn. Good thing I always have gummy bears and stuff in my purse, what a backwards way of doing business. The movies was scheduled to start at 1:45p.m., it was 2:00p.m. and the previous had not started yet. This is a movie for kids, there is so much time you can keep them sitting down doing nothing. Then when they started playing the previous, they were playing them in 3D, I had to send my hubby to tell them, so they stop that mid previous and eventually figured it out and played them in regular 2D. They charge the same amount as the modern day theaters, but the facility and service is way subpar. read more

This is frankly, a terrible location. Today, I checked movie times online at the Hood River Cinemas website, which listed Elysium at 12:00PM. Accordingly, me and my 13-year old niece got ready for the showtime, and walked a total distance of 1.4 miles simply to get to the theater. Because of my lack of transportation here in the Hood River, it was necessary to walk that far of a distance to see a good afternoon matinee. When I got to the theater, the employee rudely said that the movie was not showing, but instead replaced by Storm Surfers 3D. Being not aware of this, I was very disappointed by the availability of movies during this time period, none of which my niece and I wanted to see. I was very upset and will not be going to this movie theater again. They could have at least had the decency of updating their website of giving me complimentary tickets for not making that information public until I got to the theater. read more

I understand the seats are nice. But to have attendants interrupt the movie more than 4 times to tell people to put their feet down is ridiculous. It is SUCH a big interruption to the movie and so distracting. Then the attendants will stand there and watch you for 5 minutes to make sure you dont do it again. Its so creepy and disruptive. The attendants are loud when asking as well, basically distracting everyone in the theater. If the owner cares that much about the seats, but a plastic cover on the top or maybe a sign....? Or maybe just realize that its a movie theater and people want to rest their feet. It absolutely ruins the theater experience to have kids running in every time someone puts a foot up. If it happened four times in the one movie I went to, I have to imagine they do this at every movie playing each day. Absolutely insane. Never in my life have I experienced this at a theater. If that wasn't enough. THE LIGHTS NEVER WENT OUT. I even left the movie to go tell the front people and nobody did anything. Watched the whole movie with the lights on. Horrible. This movie theatre consistently 'forgets' to start movies on time. We've been waiting 28 minutes for the movie to start, and when we asked them to start it, they said 5 minutes or so. (They were not very concerned). A 2:00 movie should start at 2. The theatre is full, and not sure why they do this so often. Don't recommend coming here. read more
