plainly put, hook&fork is a gem. if you're anywhere from shelton to union, belfair to anywhere else, make a u turn and head to hook & fork because what they're offering is fabulous! i stared at their menu board for longer than i care to say because everything just sounded delicious and i couldn't decide. i finally alighted on shrimp tacos and they did not disappoint. my friend got the pork shoulder hash and it looked amazing as well. super nice people, a great spot right on the water at the hood canal marina, and a cute provisions store right next door. what else could you want? (i'll tell you: nothing!) this would be a fun day trip and i'm thinking i'm going to pitch the idea to friends that come into town in the next few months. a drive to the peninsula and a leisurely tour of some of the towns in the area with a lunch stop at hook & fork. only thing better than my experience today would be sunny weather but that might just make it more crowded. This place is a must visit for seafood lovers in the area. I had an incredible authentic meal at Hook and Fork. Normally I don't eat oysters because the last time I had them was at a Chinese buffet and they made me horribly ill. I had a hunch that it would be worth the leap of faith to revisit oysters here and I'm so glad I did! This little place has a clean open air concept right on the water. It has a rotating menu of oysters, clams, shrimp, and other seafood delectables. It is buzzing with happy tourists and locals! I had the poached oysters, which were simple and flavorful. They were soft and prepared with a light drizzle of brothy-oil with scallions. I also had the oyster platter with four of each preparation. I liked the different flavors, and combinations, but the poached oysters were by far my favorite We came back the next day and I also got to try the clam chowder. Very fresh, light, and delicious. The soup had a creamy base, and the clams were clearly fresh chopped clams. Though I've been an East Coast girl all my life, that clam chowder definitely has me preferring the West Coast version. They do weekend brunch, but I didn't try it. Everyone I've spoken to her said it's delicious. Just home after a lovely weekend in Union, WA. It was a bit chilly on Saturday but we took a short (about 2 mile) drive from Alderbrook Resort to Hook & Fork. It's a great spot for lunch. Ambiance is very casual. Dress for the outdoor weather but know that you can eat indoors if needed. The restaurant is waterside and you just order at the counter and wait for the yumminess to come to you. Everyone was friendly and the service was prompt. Being as it is right by the water, we went with seafood but there was also a tempting "great" chili special on the menu that day too. They have blankets if you need an extra layer to keep you warm while you enjoy the water view. I fully enjoyed my clams and chorizo with baguette. My partner had the salmon hash which he said was very good. There were options for non-seafood lovers. Don't forget to check out the cute store. They have some nice souvenirs and other delicious snacks and beverages for your visit. If we find ourselves in the area again, we'd definitely go back for another great meal! read more

This is a chill superb outdoor area to relax on the water close by Hood Canal and only a 5 minute drive from Alderbrook resort. This place is a bit hidden and a sharp turn like you are getting into a warehouse area but it's the marina area. Service was welcoming! We got the oyster combination platter that included poached oysters, chargrilled oysters, and marketfellar oysters. All of it was tasty with flavor and crispy bits on top of the market fellar. 4 of each flavor so a food combinations to share with 2 people. We both loved all of them but the poached ones shined with a lovely light butter sauce. This was the highlight for fresh seafood. It made us feel we were somewhere else on vacation away from the city. We had a salad and my partner had a burger that was decent plus we shared the Manila clams. It was a light meal that was fresh and hit the mark where we didn't feel anything was too heavy. If we are in the area again, we would come back. read more

The grilled oysters were my favorite. It was super busy and we had to wait for quite a bit of time to order and then receive our food, but we weren't in a rush so we didn't mind. This establishment is staffed by wonderful people, that greet you in the parking lot, around the property, etc. The beer, the oysters, the breakfast biscuit and gravy, it all is amazing! What a lovely experience. We stayed the weekend at the Alderbrook Resort and the recommend driving two miles down the road to this cool old marina building for brunch, drinks, or appetizers, so we did. We passed it, initially, as the old warehouse style building is pretty non descript, but there is a nice size parking lot once you turn in. The attached gift shop sells beer on tap, snacks, and souvenirs. We wanted oysters, so went next door to Hook & Fork. We got the chorizo and clams, plus some charbroiled oysters. We ordered three orders of bread, as the slices that come with both plates were just not enough to sop up all the goodness. They toast the bread over the fire, too, which was perfect. This is just discussing the food, but the outdoor tables and fire pit overlooking the water was absolutely awesome, too. So pleased. read more

I don't know if it was the water, the gorgeous summer weather, the food, or the cutesy vibe- but I think this might have been one of the most memorable meals I had in 2021. A good couple friend of mine celebrated his-and-hers pandemic bdays on July 31 with a shindig at nearby Alderbrook Lodge. They had rented an outdoor tented space next to the pool for the afternoon with catered buffet food, a hosted bar, and a sweet treats cart. They wanted to share one of their family's favorite local vacation destinations with a wider group of friends and family. I decided to treat myself to a room at the lodge for the night (my vacation budget coffers were bursting, at this point it was almost 17 months into the pandemic!) and invited my mom to join me for a overnight getaway. I noticed H&F on the lodge website and saw it was well reviewed for brunch. My mom and I decided that this would be our morning meal post-hike and pre-drive home back to Seattle. Food: was scrumptious- it is a seasonal rotating menu which is constantly changing so don't get too attached to any particular item. I had the shrimp/bacon/avocado toast which was insane. Shrimp were succulent and cooked to absolute perfection- my mouth is watering just thinking about it! My mother, a vegetarian, got the grilled corn and a biscuit which they were able to go completely off-menu for her, taking the gravy off and supplementing with grilled tomatoes and a spreadable soft white cheese garnished with green onion. She was happy! Drink: At the time, for adult bevies, I had to go to the Union City Market which is this really cute boutique selling local souvenirs, and order my drink. They would write me up a ticket which I took back to Hook and Plow before paying for everything. Once inside the market, I decided I had to go for the more unconventional mimosa popsicle option- a glass of bubbly paired with a fruity flavored mini popsicle that slowly dissolves. They were sold out of the first flavor I wanted and I can't remember which I got- except that it was pink and delish. Ambiance: Right on the water, and as this was the height of summer, gorgeous! Sunny beautiful day, cute outside tables in the sun (unfortunately no covering though). There was a wedding here the night before and all the table arrangements were still out- making for a memorable setting. Two little nits- (1) the kitchen was way in the weeds, and after noticing folks who had ordered after us were being served, I went to go and inquire on what was going on (we were hoping to avoid the Sunday ferry queues back into the city) and realized their ticket system was a mess- just piled onto the counter in a mess of receipts. They were able to find ours and pull it up to the top and bring it over quickly from that point but it was obvious the place was packed and they were slammed. Profuse apologies were made, and the delicious food made up for it. (2) No fault of the restaurant, but when I went to check on our order, I was kinda pissed that an older white gentleman sitting with his family who had gotten up to try to figure out where to find silverware automatically assumed that I was waitstaff and asked me. Seen brown people much on the hood, bro? When I gave him a look and told him I don't work here, he laughed and put his hand on my shoulder. I'm guessing he was embarrassed but I was masked up OUTSIDE while walking through the crowd- perhaps a pretty obvi signal NOT to touch me?!?!? People sometimes... geez. read more

We were eager to try this restaurant, since we live only about an hour away and it's a nice drive along the Hood Canal. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our meals, especially the salmon salad. Although the small piece of salmon was smoked and cooked well, it rested on a handful of lettuce and that was about it. The steamers were OK, but there are other places where the broth is much more flavorful. For the price paid, we expected to get a lot more food. Be aware that you need to go next door to the store if you want something like ice tea- they don't stock it. If it's a sunny day and you figure the price of your food includes a ring-side seat along the canal, then it's probably OK. One thing in their favor, they are very dog-friendly so you don't need to leave your friend in the car while you eat. read more

Great open space and a nicely decorated /rustic vibe to the whole place. We loved the fire pit right on the patio and the smell of wood burning through out the place. This spot offers great fresh seafood, friends at the table enjoyed the different chowdahs, salmon hash, and whole trout. You can also walk down to the mart to select several alcoholic beverage on tap, my wowmosa with grapefruit from there is excellent. What was disappointing was the brisket sandwich, where the bread was cold, and brisket itself was dry and hard. While the sandwich itself was like a two star, the overall experience and food enjoyed by the party that I was with, I would still give this place a four stars. For those that don't enjoy seafood like me, come here for the drinks and vibe. read more

A great stop on the Peninsula Tour! It didn't have any photos and didn't have much in the way of photos so why the hell not give it a shot? The drive is gorgeous on the water and the small town of Union is apt to have a good brunch spot or two. This spot was just like any other I've experience on the Washington waterfront. With its quirky ordering systems, bizarre seating options and quirky decor, you'll feel right at home. We had the Avocado toast which had a good helping of bacon and amazing shrimps. Followed by the breakfast sandwich which had a bit too much sauce but was still phenomenal. Finished by the roasted corn which kicked ass. I've come here once and will be back again and again. Amazing food with an even better view! When you walk in, you order at the counter. We arrived at opening on a Sunday morning so we fortunately didn't have to wait too long to place our order. Prices are kind of high and service was a little slow but the care and quality of the food made all of that unimportant. While we were eating we got to enjoy watching seals playing in the canal and the tide receding. I decided to splurge and got the Seafood platter, my husband got the Salmon hash and kiddo got the kids hot dog. I didn't try the hot dog but both the salmon hash and seafood platter were absolutely divine. The seafood tasted incredibly fresh and everything was really well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I don't like things very salty so I appreciated that things were nothing was overly salty. They were also very accommodating to our gluten free requests. They did warn that they can't guarantee cross contamination but my husband said he didn't notice seem to notice any. It was a pricey brunch but now anytime we are near the area we will make it a point to stop here. It was definitely getting crowded as we were leaving so be prepared to wait for a table and for the food, if you are coming at peak hours. One of their staff had overheard we were thinking about coming back for dinner and came over to let us know they were only open until 4. I live in Union and I hadn't eaten at the hook and fork until today. I thought it was mainly an oyster bar similar to Hama Hama but they had a darn good menu. All of our food was amazing, I'll probably become a regular, pending they keep decent prices. Order the special $20 for two UNDERCOOKED Halibut cakes and a LAME side salad. $20 entree and you get plastic forks = useless cutlery can't pick up the salad & the carrots were large julienne pieces: chopsticks would have been more efficient.. We stayed down the road at Alderbrook resort, which is lovely. They highlighted Hook & Fork to their guests, so we decided to have lunch on our way out of town. It is a bit hard to find but is on the water side of a warehouse building. They were still closed when we first arrived but they were cooking something on those outdoor grills and it smelled outrageous, so we decided to wait for them to open. While waiting we sat at a table overlooking the Hood Canal at low tide and it was like watching The Nature Channel. We saw at least a dozen blue herons and five bald eagles sitting on the shore waiting for the salmon to swim up the shallow tributaries. One adult bald eagle was teaching its offspring how to hunt. A little ways away mother and baby harbor seal were beached on the shore eating oysters. It was ridiculous! Was this really happening? Meanwhile, we had ordered the oyster platter, a beer and a Mamosa and were enjoying this delicious meal while watching this whole scene. The food was delicious, the setting was unbelievable and we felt very lucky to have had this lunch experience. If you are in the area, definitely stop in to have a meal and check out the canal. read more
